I had an appointment made two weeks ago for which I received a very polite reminder two days ago. The form to fill out was short and very reasonably formulated. The attitude of Dr. Thakkar was that of an ideal physician. He takes time. makes you feel comfortable and explains medical issues in simple words. He projects the personality of a doctor who cares for his patient as much, if not more, than everything else!

I went to Dr. Thakkar in the Alameda office after seeing another audiologist and he was able to get the audio gram from them. He took the time to thoroughly explain my problems in a way I could fully understand. Then after a series of questions about my daily hearing needs and desires, he described the pros and cons of several hearing aids that were very familiar to him. He also explained the office visit adjustments necessary to give me the optimum results and the reasonable all inclusive costs for the products and office fine tuning. I was very happy with his staff, his knowledge, his professionalism and caring manner and look forward to great results.

A year ago I finally decided to get another pair of hearing aids. I had tried ones behind the ear from a company called Zounds but found them bulky and not very sensitive. As good hearing aids are expensive and I am retired, I waited almost a year to try a different type, and stop feeling left out of many conversations.My primary care physician recommended that I see Dr. Thacker at the Hearing Zone. He did a thorough evaluation and expertly removed quite a bit of wax. He strongly recommended the wrap around the ear model but I assumed they would be like the Zounds product. Instead I chose a molded version that fit inside my ears. Unfortunately, they never felt very comfortable, even though Dr. Thacker sanded them down several times for me.I also felt that there was an echo in my head that was annoying, so I would often take them out. One day, after taking them out I walked on the beach and they dropped out of my bag and were lost! Although I had an $800 deductible on an insurance policy I bought that covered loss, after some machinations with the insurance company, I was able to get a pair of the wrap around hearing aids he had first recommended. They have turned out to be excellent. They are very comfortable and yet, due to a clever little wire that goes inside my ear lobe, they rarely come loose. Hearing quality is much better as the amplifier is behind my ear instead of within my ear canal.Unlike the molded pair that used batteries, I place these in a charger every night and whenever I’m not wearing them.I had a problem with one not receiving transmissions from bluetooth or GPS. I called the doctor and was able to get in within a few days. He immediately knew what to do, re-setting my phone and solving the problem.The Hearing Zone staff are professional, experienced, supportive, and easily available in person or by phone.If you wish to leave me a comment or question I would be happy to respond.

I ride BART and attend concerts regularly, so went here for custom musician’s plugs. Dr Thakkar expertly took my impressions, and made sure they fit well. He even buffed down my left one to make it less tight. Very knowledgeable and professional!

After having my ears ring for hours/days after being too close to speakers, I wanted a pair of customized musicians ear plugs, and saw an ad about The Hearing Zone. I worked with Dr. Anish Thakkar and got a pair of custom plugs that attenuate 10 decibels flat, so that I can still appreciate music while protecting my ears. Big fan of this practice!

I was able to go into the clinic today to get custom musicians plugs and had an ideal experience. Dr Anish Thakkar was quick and capable showing his expertise in the field.

I called the Hearing Zone today because of an issue my daughter with special needs was having with her hearing aids. She received new ear molds but I couldnt get the old ones off the tubing. She usually is seen at CEID in Berkeley, Center for Early Intervention on Deafness or Childrens Hospital, but its hard to get an appointment at either. Thankfully, Dr. Thakker had time to see her for the quick fix today. We were in and out in 5 minutes. He even checked her ears and cleaned her aids. I understand that Dr. Thakkar is new to our Island. What a welcome addition he is!

I have been to numerous audiologists through the years. I am a middle aged woman with severe hearing loss in my left ear, and moderate hearing loss in my right ear. Sudden hearing loss is frightening and isolating. Dr, Ray Crookston has gone way above and beyond to help me. He is knowledgeable, kind, and patient. Since I am in the counseling profession, it is critical that I optimize my hearing. Dr. Crookston thought carefully about which devices would best meet my needs. His ability to listen to my anecdotes about how my devices are working, and then to program my hearing aids accordingly is masterful. I give Dr. Crookston my highest recommendation.
