Amazing. We were told about this place by a long time resident, it is a must try. There was a wait but we are so glad we did not leave. We walked around and browsed the pharmacy which is wonderful. We had the flat enchilada and an apple empanada for dessert. Wow some of the best Mexican food we have ever had. Fresh ingredients abd freshly made. Don’t forget to order the tortillas with butter. The waitress was amazing very friendly and best advice on the menu. Don’t pass this place up.
Great little place connected to a pharmacy (there must be a story behind that). We saw all the good reviews so we tried it.Homemade flour tortillas made right in front of you. Not the thin tortillas, but a thicker tortilla that was very, very good. Wife ordered a cheese quesadilla which she loved. I orders combo plate of a taco, cheese enchilada and a tamale. Everything was great, tasted fresh and homemade. Also, ordered a flour tortilla with butter, amazingly good. Saw the lady making and cooking the tortilla. Service was great too.
Was my first time At Durans and I had the best experience such a great atmosphere. But I would like to say we had the best waitress her name was Marisol she was AMAZING 😊 super sweet and her customer service was by far the best I’ve had in many restaurants I’ve dined at. Thank you MARISOL YOU ROCK AT YOU JOB . I will be going back just for her awesomeness!!!
40 minutes to an hour wait for lunch. They didn’t seem to care too much. Recommend Garcia’s across the street.
It was a good Mexican food that you won’t regret.Very tasteful yet affordable with list of different choices you can have.I had pork tamales and it was good. What makes it even better was red and green chillies that make beans and tamales better tasteful.Friendly staffs and eccentric location of being at the corner of drug store will give you different experience as well.Would give 9-9.5/10 if google change its rating system.
Excellent Carne Adovada. Potatoes instead of rice is genius. Beans cooked perfectly! Staff very nice! Kitchen and restaurant are Clean! Reviews left by those with only initials or made up names are very misleading. Its not easy running a restaurant, or any business. So much is often out of your control. If you go when theyre busy, youll wait. Sometimes we just have to realize things arent always perfect, but we are very lucky to have this jewel of a New Mexican food restaurant.
Food was delicious. Especially their home made giant tortilla with butter. Im soooo going back. The place is small though so get there early or prepare to wait.
We were looking for authentic southwest cuisine and we found it! The food was amazing and the service was great. If you’re ever in Albuquerque make it a point to stop here.
The food is good but not worth it for how they nickel & dime you. Ended up paying nearly $14 for a burrito without the tortilla.
My favorite place from my childhood. The tortillas are to die for! Also can’t go wrong with a good shake
Loved their green chili stew and tortillas! Must try in Albuquerque
We were visiting from Phoenix. Stopped here to eat at the recommendation of friend. Service was great. Our server was Donna, she is funny, caring, and loves to please her customers. The food is good. I would eat here again. Worth trying the southwest/New Mexican flavors.
Its a good place when its open - great for gifts! But 3 times Ive been down here in the past few weeks and it hasnt been open. Had the same problem during Covid. The restaurant is either closed and only the pharmacy is open or the pharmacy is closed and only the restaurant is open. This isnt reflected online anywhere. Its a waste of time for me to keep driving down there to find it closed at 2pm or 3pm on a Saturday. They need to update their hours on Google. I wont be back until they do.
Never been here. I stopped by for the covid moderna vaccine. The Tokyo milk perfume....omg. I will be back to try the food. I would go broke in this store, so many coolthings to buy.
They will not allow you to place an order for takeout unless you pay over the phone. I expressed that I was driving and did not want to be unsafe and they did not care one bit about that. They would not take my order even after trying to give them a CC number three times! I was hung up on when I became frustrated about repeating my CC number the fourth time. I did ask if they would make an exception since I was driving but they would rather not take my order. They treated me like I was a dishonest person that would not pick up my food! When I called Mona to express my concern about how rude her staff was, she said that “all customers think they are good” but...We have been big Duran’s fans and spent lots in their store and restaurant but after my experience today will not step another foot in their store. They clearly do not care about their customers and only care about taking their money. I do NOT recommend them for the simple fact that they have zero appreciation for their customers and think they are all dishonest people trying to rip them off.
Super friendly folks in the restaurant and shop. Incredible food. Wont be swinging through Albuquerque in the future without stopping here.
The wait around opening time was over an hour when we came. Service was fast and the staff is all very friendly. We got the breakfast burrito and tried both sauces. The sauces were so good, we bought a jar of each to bring home with us. The breakfast burrito wasnt bad, but I expect more eggs and way less potato in mine. This is something I didnt realize is sort of a prevalent style around here. Id totally come back to try other things covered in their sauces, but Id skip the breakfast burrito. Hopefully they can open up capacity more by the time Im back in town!
A cool retro pharmacy has one of the best New Mexican restaurants hiding in the back. Walking into the pharmacy immediately and then into the restaurant gave me a Cracker Barrel feel, it was nice. The pharmacy featured many cool miscellaneous items: from salt shakers to shot glasses, art, etc. The front of the house was very interesting and all but that cozy corner in the back was heaven! The restaurant features bar seating in front of an open kitchen. We could easily watch from our seats as someone who could be anyones abuela made our tasty tortillas by hand. Our table chose red chile huevos rancheros and a green chile breakfast burrito. Its easy to understand why they were voted best green and red chile in Albuquerque for several years now! Every thing being made in front of us smelled and looked delicious. The wait staff were all prompt and courteous, even ones not assigned to us! I had a wonderful time here. I was even surprised by 2 bathrooms featuring identical signs reading whichever. Very progressive, I like! The prices are a little higher than most diners but overall not terrible. Oh! if youre a freak about ice, my girlfriend says they have the nice ice whatever that means.
Wow!! Ive had better New Mexican food and havent had to pay the mortgage for the restaurant by ordering a plate of enchiladas!
Highly recommend. Went to have breakfast and the huevos rancheros plate was delicious. Service was awesome. The wait wasn’t too long either. Thank you, Ruben and the rest of the staff for the great service!
By far thee worst service I’ve experienced. “The highest management you get here” stated by manager. Rude because I didn’t know where to go, as this was my first time ordering and pickup for myself. I asked for refund and first I be ever been told, “NO! I AM NOT GIVING YOU REFUND! ITS NOT MY FAULT YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING!!” Then laughedFood has always been great but service is uncalled for I will only get when the ones who referred me order!
Wish we could eat here every day. Their Tortillas (with butter!)...oh man, so tasty!!! Not to mention that the Red Chile is some of the best weve ever had. A New Mexican institution for a reason!
My friends and I go for the gift shop! The selection is really eclectic and theyre always getting in new things. Its pretty reliable if you dont feel like driving around for Christmas or birthday gifts; I can usually get everyone taken care of with one trip here. I love the restaurant too...shop, eat, then shop some more. ;)
Bowl of beans and cheese were fantastic! Reminded me of homemade that I used to eat as a child. I was looking forward to the flour tortillas but was disappointed. They were way too thick and stiff for me. Not sure if this is a typical New Mexico tortilla though. I’m used to homemade flour tortillas that are thinner and pliable. Staff was very pleasant.
Absolutely delicious food!! Large portions! Plenty of Vegetarian options! Can not say enough good things of the food and our experience. Our waitress, Donna was so kind and fun.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! My husband grew up in Albq., so we go back to visit a lot and every time my ENTIRE family needs to eat here! BEST FOOD on the planet and my husband has known the SAME staff for 20+ years! Its so good that I almost regret leaving the review because even though I want everyone on the planet to eat here it is truly a HIDDEN GEM in my eyes. I feel as if YOU are the lucky one if you get there in time to eat! It will always have a very special place in my heart!
This place is an essential Albuquerque experience. They are so nice, the food is fantastic, the chile is hot, and the atmosphere is really cool. Also, I called in a big order for my office and they handled it perfectly. Love love love them
Fantastic place to take your relatives from out of town!Fully recommend the carne adovada and tortillas! You can really tell that these are made fresh with love.
Best huevos in town! Homemade tortillas are so delicious! 💜
Best local gift shop, diner and pharmacy. I can spend hours shopping here and do most of my Christmas shopping here. Food at the diner is good, red Chile is the best!
Delicious, friendly staff, and big portions. The seating area is small but that does not stop anyone from visiting and eating their Delicious food.
Here available all the medicines on the good prices.
One-stop shop for your prescriptions, gift needs, and red chile cravings. Love Durans!
I got my covid shots here and they have super cute stuff!!
Food was great. Excellent service. Servers were nice and friendly.
Service not bad, food was very bland and extremely overpriced.
Our food came out cold and bland. We will not be returning and do not recommend this restaurant to others.
Enjoyed the huevos rancheros. The red and green chili were flavorful with a little kick. Homemade tortillas, nice portions beans and potatoes were ok. Very attentive and friendly service. Outside patio was very pleasant.
We are here for dinner during our vacation. I had the huevos rancheros in a red sauce. My bf had the chicken enchiladas in a green sauce. The both came with flour hand made tortillas which were quite good.My bfs green sauce as awesome. The red sauce on mine was quite bitter, to the point where had I not mixed it with other things, I would not have been able to eat it.Service was good. I would go back!
I took two special guest to Durans pharmacy a few days ago to have lunch in their restaurant and were seated in the patio adjacent to the main dinning room which isnt very big at all. We waited about half an hour before we were served,a restaurant employee entered the patio as well and had her a delicious meal, another employee entered too and they conversed and ate while we waited and finally got ours as the room filled. The food was good but lacked flavor, the green chili was chopped in small chunks and couldve been more like a gravy so if you like confined spaces and mediocrity then this is a place for you.
Such delicious pinto bean enchiladas with a side of potatoes! Flavorful chile. Thank you Duran Central Pharmacy for a yummy vegan version of your enchiladas!
Follows covid guidelines, had the green Chile tamales, guacamole and chips. Wished they had a bit more flavor, super mild.
The gift shop is so full of amazing trinkets, mugs, gifts, whatever you need. Pharmacy service is fantastic. Heck, all of the staff is. And the restaurant is fabulous. The hand-rolled tortillas, (and pretty much everything else over there) is delightfully New Mexican.
Tons of food at a reasonable price right off of historic Route 66. Get the red and green Chilis.
Good location until they hired Ruben. Absolutely disrespectful to my mother without provocation. Whining to customers about his job while handing them dirty utensils. If waiting tables is too hard for you, then get a new gig. Nepotism just to get hired as a waitress. Haha, clown!
By far the best handmade flour tortillas Ive ever had! I cant make a suggestion on what to order because everything is delicious but please get your own flour tortilla and eat it with mermelada ( jam)
Hands down the greatest New Mexican food in the state, I must’ve eaten here 100+ times. I recommend getting the red chile blue corn enchilada plate with beef and a buttered tortilla on the side.
Really enjoyed our visit and lunch here. You wouldnt know it but there is a little hidden gem of a diner in this pharmacy and general shop of gifts and curiosities. We had the fritos pie and combination platter both with chili Christmas style (red & green). One of the better meals we had in Albuquerque - simple, fast, great combination of spice and flavor. Plus their homemade tortillas slathered in butter is a great treat with all meals. If you want to eat and feel like a local, do lunch here.
Walked in 10/31/2020 to pick up to-go order, went into the restaurant because nobody was at the back door. As soon I enter I was greeted with a glare from back of house. Was not acknowledged, just glared, and finally told the cook I was there to pick-up. Cook only responded with What?, turns around and walks away. The server was nice enough, however when I got home my food was cold and soggy- I live less than five minutes away. A really awkward and disappointing experience, will be avoiding Durans restaurant for the time being.
Had breakfast with my sweetheart here yesterday. DELICIOUS as usual! Donna was the most amazing person ever! She had an awesome attitude she also had us and a few other tables in the corner cracking up. Thank you so much for making sure our Durans experience was exceptional.
Muy delicioso! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit... We havent been to an eat in restaurant in months due to covid restrictions. This place was excellent! Its very laid back inside, our waitress was excellent as well. We had salsa, guacamole & tortilla chips. Red cheese enchiladas & green chili chicken tamales. Both were off the hook! A tad pricey but worth it especially being so close to Old Town. The last time I ate here was about 15-20 years ago & remember it being very good back then. Partake & enjoy as we really did. Well be back!
Durans is one of my favorite places to eat at with excellent red and green chilie. They have a very wide rang of mexican food to choose from and have some amazing specials going on during the week. You could go simple and just get a basic cheese burger or go all in with one of their giant burritos. You can customize your order to your desire and add almost anything in you wish to eat. Overall excellent service and highly recommand to others.
A pharmacy and a place to get an (FIVE) STAR MEAL. UNHEARD OF, and their food is hands down on (PAR) with the best New Mexican places in New Mexico. Iget all my prescriptions there, so my wife and are there once or twice per month..
Ordered during covid crisis and was so impressed. The chili was wonderful as always, but the care to pack it all up was exceptional. Service was also great and no contact. Menu is limited but they had what I wanted. Hope next time I can eat inside
Worst place to eat worst service! The ladies are the most rudest I have ever encountered ! You get mashed potatoes in your burrito! And if you ask why there is mashed potatoes in your burrito they say guess you never had steamed potatoes dont waste your money on gross soggy burritos with no flavor!
Cute old-timely pharmacy with an amazing restaurant in the back. Waiters were exceptional and very friendly. Loved the buttered, hand rolled tortilla!! My first meal ever ordered n New Mexico and it did not disappoint.
We miss Donna!! Me and my wife are long time customers that live in the area. Usually the experience is amazing from hello to goodbye and the food is good. Today was by far the worst experience we’ve ever had. We had to ask for everything (silverware, napkins, refills, Chile that we ordered, our tortillas), our orders were wrong and we received very unwelcoming attitude as if we were asking for too much. We will continue to be customers but we will make sure to call ahead and see if Donna is serving. I recommend this establishment highly as long as it’s not Tuesday.
I’ve been going to Albuquerque off and on for 25 years for work. I always search up recommended restaurants. I always think I’m really going to like the traditional New Mexican food, but everything has been okay, not great. That is until I went to Durant’s about three weeks ago. It was everything I hoped for and by far the best chili (sauce) I’ve had so far.I even brought chili home and made enchiladas for my family. As my wife said, “This is the way enchiladas are supposed to taste!”I’m on my way to Albuquerque now. I’m sad to see that they close a 6:30 pm today and tomorrow. :(
Super friendly Pharmacy. Much prefer these guys to the corporate chain robots out there
Restaurant is very good!!
Absolutely the best red Chile in Albuquerque!!Order the Bowl-a-Donna, it is truly the best combination of flavor and perfectly represents the dedication and love that the staff puts into everything they serve! One of the only 5 Star ratings I have ever given, and I would probably give it a 6, if possible, because of the attentive service and awesome food!
Best food in Albuquerque. You can only get equal. There is no better. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!
Terrible experience. The owner is extremely rude and makes guests feel uncomfortable.
Terrible just simply terrible save your time and money, especially if your looking for employment from this adolescent mediocre company. They will have you work for 2 days then tell you that you were actually on a working interview for those 2 days and they will call you back if your a good fit for their company. Ask for hr and they will dodge the subject altogether and attempt to feed you verbal diarrhea in retaliation and expect you to believe it. Then they will play the whole we cut your check and its in the mail game.personally I have been waiting on that check for over a week now and its way too much of a problem for them to cancel a check and cut a new simply because it will cost them an entire pathetic $25.Awareness created.
A pair of socks was clearly marked $8-$10 dollars, but I was charged $12 a pair. The bigger problem was with the manger and her attitude when brought to her attention. She said they raised the prices due to tariffs and had not gotten around to changing the posted prices on the wall. Basically, her response was, if you dont like it, you can return them, PERIOD! I will shop where posted prices are honored and managers believe in customer service. I wont be back and I will share my experience.
This is Albuquerque’s hidden gem for the best enchiladas in town! I highly recommend this place! There is also a store with exotic items to shop after eating, can’t get any better than that!
Love it. Eat here every chance I am in Albuquerque. Homey, simple but tasty food and the cutest, little, old style, variety store for shopping. Pick up a gift on the way to the airport. A step back in time... Strong Recommendation .
The store has nice what I call closet gifts you know.....the kind of an item you buy, take home then put in the closet. Please note, they will not refund your money should you find you have to return it. They will give you an in store credit which can be applied to other items within the store. However this credit, is as I understood it, is limited to sundry items. Example, if you need a prescription filled you cannot apply the refund to offset the cost of the prescription. As for the restaurant, terrific food and staff......the best!!!!.
WHOA is all I can say about this food. My husband and I were visiting ABQ, and had read great things about this place. I dont even know how to describe why it is so good; I can try by writing that everything seems so fresh; the beans, the veggies, the amazing tortillas that they roll and fry literally right in front of your eyes, but it seems like more. The service is amazing - sit at the bar, I recommend it - you will not be disappointed. The staff works so well together, they seem to really like each other and get along, which really makes the energy of the place so much better.Lets put it this way; we were literally in town for three days, and we ate at Durans three times. It was that good. I am a foodie, and I would tell everyone I know to visit this place if they are in town. I cant stop thinking about it.
Duran Central Pharmacy is a great place for food and gift items. The boutique in here is a little more upscale and fun than the average drug store. They have great purses, souvenirs, kitchen items and gourmet food stuffs here. Then theres the diner - very low key and simple in the best way. Old school diner in atmosphere more than looks. Friendly, seasoned wait staff. On point diner selections. One of the better Christmas Enchilada Plates I had on this trip. Inexpensive.I will definitely return on our next visit.
Loved it
Go here for lunch quite a bit and the food is wonderful. Tortillas are excellent. Today we were completely ignored. Sat in the middle of the restaurant ignored. Step it up! You have loyal customers who routinely recommend you.
Love this place! Best homemade tortillas in ABQ and the bowl of red chile is amazing. Only downside is how small the seating is but its also super reminiscent be of old cafes. Worth the wait time!
Durans is the absolute best. The pharmacist bends over backward to help his customers. Seriously big hearted help! So glad I found this place!
Great place, with a bustling business. Many attractive options on the menu. I had the huevos rancheros, flour tortilla with butter. They were really good and filling (no dinner for me). Because we sat at the counter we could watch everything being made, including the tortillas which were constantly being rolled out and cooked. Everyone was super friendly, including the other people eating at the counter.
Excellent food and most friendly staff. Best New Mexican traditional food. Awesome red and green chili flavors. Definitely worth the wait.
Service was horrible. Their chile was nasty. Got a burger instead but apparently they didn’t know how to cook it and burnt it. Had no mayo to add to the burnt burger. My waitress was snobby and kept ignoring my table. Waited 30 minutes to get a refill on my drink. Last time I go there. Avoid it and save your money!
Love the food, and fast service
Service is top of the line, management was spectacular, the food...... The best beans and potatoes Ive ever had; homemade taste to perfection. Fresh tortillas... Deserves more than a 5 🌟..
Great meals
