I am a goalie that plays semi-regularly. After the renovations were completed The Outpost is beautiful! I skated around when I was younger but the quality of ice is so much better now and the staff are always professional and friendly. The gentleman Lin is a person I like to praise. He is experienced and personable. I would recommend this place to anyone who lives in Albuquerque and to tourists to visit. The proshop has improved on variety of products as well!
FRIENDLY STAFF EXTREMELY CLEAN WELL KEPT ICE RINK. ONLY THE LACK OF VENDING MACHINES TO GET A QUICK SNACK WHEN THE SNACK BAR NOT OPEN.
Fantastic facility! The open skating area is actually two full sized rinks linked together in a loop. Its HUGE! There is plenty room for more experienced skaters to go around those who are trying to get their bearings clinging to the wall (me lol). They also have skating aids available to use to help with learning. The facilities are very clean, and they have a cafe/snack bar on site as well as vending machines. Its a great place to take the family and escape the heat!
Hotel is usually great. This time AC doesnt work well room is hot. This trip has had a bad experience. Room is still at 78 degrees
Niece loves this ice rink and she is thrilled to have it open for practice & coaching. It was closed for six months & she was miserable. She is thrilled to be out on the ice again. Other skaters looked happy and good on the ice, too.The place is clean, with tables disinfected, & signs on each disinfected table saying so. Also, they have hand disinfectant on each table. The pro shop was closed, but looked nice. The bathrooms were also clean and I loved the mirror sign: “Objects in mirror are prettier than they appear in spite of what society makes you think!”
The skate was fun and the staff was awesome sauce. Highly recommend for date or family fun. Great way to beat the heat. No masks. Have fun for me.
It was great to watch the hockey game i saw tonight
We absolutely had a blast! Even my 3 year old daughter was able to get into ice skating! We cant wait to go again! So reasonably priced and the staff is friendly and warm. I am very happy to have gotten a family of 5 in for less than $45, skate rental included (oh, and the practice bars!). We will definitely be back!
Love this place, been skating here since I was little. Always a great family time!
I went today. I broke my ankle. No one helped.
Pros: Its a great place to see a hockey game and visit with friends, Go Wolves! Great last winning game of the season!Cons: Coffee and Coco are atrocious, do not buy, bring your own.
The Outpost offers a unique layout that provides for lots of different ice activities all under one roof. Chilly’s ProShop is well stocked with both necessities and fun apparel and gift items. The snack bar has great food too!
Always have e a great time at the outpost.
Great facility, clean fun and great activity for the family
A fun and exciting game! GREAT place for a corporate event! Our Medic Buddy Mobile Health group held a family night for our work team in the enclosed Suite that overlooks the rink and the hospitality was great! The game was exciting, with a packed arena and comfortable atmosphere. Alyssa and the Ice Wolves staff did a wonderful job of making sure that all 35 of us we well taken care of! What a great asset to our Albuquerque community! Thank you Outpost Arena and NM Ice Wolves!
The Outpost is keeping hockey thriving in New Mexico. The new ownership has been an obvious boon, you can see it on the resurfaced ice, new scoreboards, and renovated facilities. An already great place is now even better.
Girls loved it
Very nice. I take skating lessons here and the rink is spacious, the ice is generally smooth, although after hockey skates have abused the ice its bumpy. The lessons are not expensive, the coaches are helpful, and during their public skate sessions its generally not too crowded. I do not use the rental skates but from what I can tell they dont look uncomfortable. Could use some renovations but overall pretty nice.
Nice service and speedy help
NEWLY UPDATED! For all of you that love to be on the ice, you MUST see what the new management has done with the place. Super friendly staff and a great place to hang out with the family for a birthday party or to watch some hockey. Looking forward to many memories here.
Amazing, awsome ice, food, service. Definitely better than the other owners.
Went with the family, they had skates small enough for my 4 year old and a skate bar. Its been a decade since I last visited and a first time for my husband. We enjoyed it and staff was very friendly. We grabbed some snacks and hot cocoa, with plenty of time on the ice. Well be coming back more often. It is a little dated, dont expect a brand spanking new rink, but it was perfect for a family day out, and it wasnt as strict as it was a decade ago, so while chaotic, it was still a lot of fun and left some wiggle room for the kid to feel like she could try out some moves.
We went for a 2-hour public skate session, which at $13/person ($10 plus $3 to rent skates) is reasonable. (Youd likely spend the same amount of money for similar amount of time bowling, for example.) You can ask for hockey or figure skates, but if your feet are large, youll only be able to wear hockey skates. Wear high socks, and bring a hat and gloves. The design of the rinks connected by the CoolLoop is neat, though the connecting ice between the rinks was very choppy when we went. Unfortunately, it appeared that no one at the counter gave any information regarding the direction to skate, so it was very chaotic, with people skating in all directions. This made it difficult for the first-time skaters in my group to feel comfortable. Groups of unsupervised kids (who clearly play hockey) were skating as fast as they could for much of the session, weaving between people, which was obnoxious and unsafe. This is of course, not an Outpost problem, but a parenting/coaching issue. The bathrooms are very outdated and there was not toilet paper in many of the stalls. The lockers were hard to use and probably half of them did not have the locking mechanism any longer. Bring a quarter or two if you want to use the lockers.Overall, the skating is fun, but the amenities could use some serious updates. Two hours is more than enough time, and worth the money. Youll be sore the next day if youre not used to it!
The place has been revamped which is great! The ice is great! The new owners are continuing to make improvements that make this a great place to skate!
Good place for skating but not great for hockey games. The concession was literally closing as my daughter was standing there waiting for the fries she ordered although the prices are great. No matter how many times the managers told his very young staff they could not stand in the no standing Zone because it wasnt fair to the paying customers they always seem to be huddling around the area once he would leave. There unfortunately is not enough seating for everyone
A large ice rink with plenty of room to skate and good music. The figure skates look new and very nice, but the hockey skates look like they purchased them sometime in the 90s. They are best up, but still work for the time being. Hopefully they invest in new ones soon. Other than that its your average ice rink, so worth going to if you like to skate.
I had a great time, the only thing is I think they needed to renovate their tables. The ice rink I also felt needed a smaller occupancy. Especially when there are so many kids just learning to skate, otherwise nice place.
Great arena
This is an amazing place to visit for some cool fun. We were invited to watch the Admirals play a game of ice hockey. I’ve never been here but gathered a bit of information on it. There are actually two ice ice-skating rinks that are enclose with one being the house of the UNM team. There is also a full ring around that connects the two rinks together. When they’re no games playing you can rent skates and go skating. Anyway we all enjoyed the game, our team won and was floored when I learned no tickets were needed. As we were leaving the entire building was filled by a church group having a get together. Plenty of old school pinball machines, good food at reasonable prices and a really cool place to enjoy a get together. 5 stars for sure.
I really enjoyed this place. I went here with my boy. I am a 6ft 10 blind individual that went ice skating with my boy just for the hell of it. I had not been ice skating since I was myself a boy, and I had my eyesight then. I attempted ice skating, but did not feel confident in doing so for fear of accidentally slamming into somebody. They were people getting around rather fast, and I just did not think it would be a good idea. I ended up going to the arcade area to play video games with my boy. I have a video of me playing a game called Primal Rage. It is the one where dinosaurs are fighting like Mortal Kombat. Him and I were playing until he ran out of quarters. I ended up continuing on playing the computer. I actually Dietz the entire game. I will be posting it on my YouTube channel soon. Perhaps, next time when I go it will be empty. I am 300 pounds, and when I slam into somebody it is like a semi truck slamming into a little hybrid smart car. The gentleman there were very nice seeing as how I did not get to skate, and gave me some passes to go back to try again. I never did get to go. My boy and I lost the tickets. Believe the housekeeper might have accidentally throwing them out. If you have not been, and you would like to try to ice skate you should definitely go. The staff are all really awesome. I wish I could get up there again to try it again sometime soon. Hope you have as much fun as I did
Great ice skating ring! Fun for the whole family. No issues or complaints here. Just a great time. You can have your childs birthday party here too.
Good fun. Some of the rental skates are falling apart and that causes foot cramps (ouch!!) because you cant get the laces to hold in the right position. Otherwise, clean, ice is good, the loop and having both sides open is really nice. Kids always have a blast.
This review is through the eyes of (general admissions) and in no way reflects the coaches and staff who teach there.Staff was nice when I went. The ice was nice when I was there, a little smoother would have been preferable. The loop they have is fun, and the skates I rented were in good shape. The inside is a little smelly, but the carpet and furniture inside are beat up and old so that could be part of the reason for being a little smelly. If the ice was a little smoother and the inside was nicer I would agree with the price. Overall I did enjoy my time there and I would go back again with my family. They should clean it up a little and update a few things and I would go more often, or dont and just lower the price some and I would still go more often. If you are looking for something to do with the family, this place worked for us.
I have not yet skated here. I curl in the side tunnel on the ice in shoes. But the place is clean and staff seems friendly.Update: the new owner is fixing all the ice and the tunnels are much better. The ice doesnt dip to one side so much now!! Thank you!
So much FUN!!!!
Had my daughters bday party here today! Staff was friendly, and a big Thank you to Nico for all his help. Awesome place!
Nice place just had the rink redone..... My nephews played hockey here for many years and now my son is taking the learn to skate class
Cool place! Came to see Lobo hockey game with my wife and a few friends. Very kid friendly. Very inexpensive.
My daughter plays hockey here on a regular basis. The staff is friendly. They have good food at the concession stand. But, I always feel like it is so dirty in there. Not like clutter, but dirty. Like everything needs to be cleaned from top down, or replaced and updated.
First time ice skating, my boyfriend brought me here. It was really simple. You pay and ask for your size. They let you exchange if there are problems with the skates or if the sizing is off. They have lockers for your stuff. My legs really hurt for a week and it was not easy trying to skate, but it was fun. I do not have any complaints and like other reviewers said it could improve on its looks, but the ice was pretty good for skating as far as I know. I will probably go again.
Nice place to ice skate but someone broken into my truck. It wasnt the first time and it happened at 5hw ice ring. probably wont be the last. And they know it happens over there and the still wont put cameras.
If you wear a size 14, they have only hockey skates to rent...but at least you can skate. They have some roof leaks, so if you go when there is rain or snow there will be some mini volcanos on the ice surface to be avoided. They seriously need to replace the mid-size skates that get the most use. I took a date there, and her skates were too worn out to be usable, as were the replacements, so we gave up. How she dealt with it was illuminating...
Very fun and good to get away from the summer heat. For value I would have rated it a 3 because its $13.00 a person and if you have a large family and want to go often you will not be able to do that. Also the manager was yelling at some man in the front of the business which did not leave a good impression of him but he was polite to me and my family.
I loved this rink even before it became olympic-sized. It has still kept its original charm with the pseudo pueblo on one wall. The open rink sessions are good if you go when its not too busy.
It is a very fun place to skate but is very outdated in its design, the walkers for helping beginners skate are very inefficient and are harder to skate with. The ice was very melted also. The rental skates are very inflexible and uncomfortable.
This place is neat in a sense of being able to skate in a loop from one room to another, which makes it a big rink to have tons of fun in. But e v e r y t h i n g is dated. You walk in there and its basically the 80s that borrowed from the 60s. Its ugly, drab and honestly doesnt look clean. And the scene in the left room is hilarious....and ugly. The shoelaces on the ice skates are way too long, too? I get you can tuck them in, but it just makes your feet hurt. Somethings got to give in there.
Best ice rink in Albuquerque.....
Love this fun, local, family- oriented place!
Great place to ice skate or take in some hockey, nice arena
Loved it! Havent been skating in 15 years. It was so much fun
Great facility. Even better since remodel.
By far the best ice rink in the area. My kids love the double rink!
So far Ive only been there twice but its been a blast each time. Its a great place for dates as well.
Kids had fun despite the rudeness of the staff on December 8, 2018. The girl taking in the skates used the f-word in front of my children while complaining about her job and then snapped at one of them, tuck your laces in! Their attitude makes us want to drive to Rio Rancho next time we want to skate!
Two rinks, speed skating, curling. The ice isnt in as good of shape as it used to be. But, overall a great resource for the community.
This place was amazing has alot of room to practice and skate freely around.
Hasnt been since I was a kid. LOVE the expanded rink!
Everyone is always very helpful and in addition to having so many public sessions available they have private lessons, hockey for kids and adults, and figure skating instructors. Perfect for all ages.
Facilities and ice are in need of some serious TLC, but its the only rink in Albuquerque and has some decent hockey opportunities.
Fun place to take the kids. Price is fair. We always have a blast when there .
Great, affordable, and fun ice skating. I went when part of the loop was closed for practice, but would definitely go again to experience the full arena.
High quality stores, inviting atmosphere, children playgroundI had a very nice time at this mall
Went here with the Girl Scouts and found the staff to be great. Facility could use a little updating, but it works!
Great Place to take the kids and have a great time, prices were very cheap.
We love skating. Wish the figure skaters were more polite. They intrude upon open skaters & take over the entire ice. I guess we need to get a little more pushy. We paid for the ice time too.
As an expectator it is wonderful to watch a hockey game or people ice skating without freezing!! 2 ice rinks, modern basketball courts, great renewal!
Huge arena and great place for the whole family to have a great time!
It was OK even though I dont like ice skating. Good place to bring your kids if they are energetic or like ice skating.
It is a really fun place to go ice skating their skates are qualify and if you cant ice skate they have walkers you can use plus their food tastes fantastic
Great place to learn to skate for everyone. Hockey teams come hear often to practice and play.
Its showing its age, but the skating is a ton of fun.
Good prices and two ice skating rinks. I enjoy going there a lot.
Do not book for parties! Absolutely rude service. Will not let you bring in cake and is very restrictive with anything extra. We talked to the owner and he was rude, could not answer questions, tried to justify his high prices on operating costs, and talked over me the whole time. I gave up and called another place. Never will go to this over priced, rude establishment again.
So FUN going again on Thursday with Raymond g Sanchez community center
Unique place to skate. Not the best ice in the state. Showers arent always warm.
Not bad. Wish I could has gotten a learner bar for my kido but happy that they are sticking woth polices
BRING YOUR OWN SKATES! the staff is great, very nice and informed. The coaches are excellant. The ice is zambonied every two hours. The pro shop is adequate, if they dont have it theyll help you find it.The rental skates are a HAZARD! Worse than not being able to learn well, injury is a very serious possibility. Youll see if you put them on, they are broken down not broken in, and have 0 ankle support. This also puts your knees in a wonky position and negates your ability to switch edges at all.If youve got your own skates, an excellant place to be.
I play hockey and go skating a lot, this place is in bad shape the employees are nice but dont know what they are doing. The ice is in bad shape but only people who skate notice that, this place is however the only option so if you want to try skating go ahead
The kids had a great time. The prices were a bit higher than anticipated; $10.00 for 2 hours of free skate time plus $3.00 for skate rental.
This place is so cool. Get it?
Its age shows a bit but still great fun.
Amazing!! Love playing hockey up there!
Nice arena, usually maintained pretty well, sorta grungy lobby area
The bathrooms are not perfectly clean, but whenever Ive come its always a good time.
Hockey leagues, instruction, free skating, stick and puck and more. Two rinks, never gets crowded. Really love this rink.
Awesome place to skate, but it is not a very high quality ice skating rink.
Ice is large and well-maintained and its never crowded. Some skates seem worn out. Staff is friendly.
Great place to spend some time with your kids
Very cold. Floors somewhat slippery, lovely shade of white.
Awesome rink and great skate programs for kids
Old but as good a place as your going to find on the Eastside.
Good location, wrap-around skating rink, good food
Decent community gathering place for friends and family.
