I’ll keep it 100. I work for another beverage distributor as a direct competitor to south mountain beverage and I understand why our store falls behind. First and foremost is the huge selection south mountain beverage carries and always has in stock. Second is the pricing, we can’t compete on the DEALS these guys are able to get for their customers and our community. I’m a numbers guy and I’m not entirely sure how they keep the lights on selling at the prices they do but really it comes down to the relationships they have made with their suppliers. Third, location location location. South mountain beverage positioned their business in a way that draws in patrons from surrounding businesses and institutions - the market, the pizza shop, and the middle school. The new ownership is world class, they provide excellent service and they’re funny man. As soon as all this crazy stuff settles down I’ll be trying to get a job here but until then I’ll continue working at my current store and after a hard day’s work if you’re like me you’ll stop on by and get yourself a 6 pack and a lotto ticket and hangout with the guys at south mountain beverage.

Theres new ownership here as of the last few months. The owners seem just as friendly as Long was which is nice and it seems prices are staying very much the same so far.

Long the owner is a great guy and the rest of the staff is very helpful and friendly. Always the best prices around. And you gotta love the South Side Champagne!

The son is very nice. The father is very nasty, and is very rude. He said he doesnt like my kind and doesnt need my money. I just started going in to the business. Everyday for the last two weeks. I never had a problem and just go in for a beer or two. Mostly use cash. Same as today but had to use my card. I had used my card once before. I asked if there is a cash limit. He replied no. That is one reason i would drive out of my way to buy things there. Because i could always use my card. Today i grabbed a beer and started to pull my card out. He said 5 dollar limit. I was kinda surprised. So I said, i thought there wasnt a limit. He snatches the beer off of the counter and puts it back. Yells, go somewhere else. I explained that he said differently several days ago. I asked him if his policy changed?? He shook his head no and said i dont want to talk and if i dont like it. Buy somewhere else. He then says he doesnt need my kind of business. I asked him why he was being so difficult??? I was being very calm because I was exhausted. I was so tired i literally didnt have the energy to argue. I just wanted to know why he was being like that. He said something about his dog and going home. I went over to the cooler and grabbed two beers. While paying he kept trying to get me to react. I have never seen anything like it. So he gives me my recpt and says one more time, go buy somewhere else. To that I finally replied. Dont worry sir, i will never purchase anything else from or be back.

This is a really cool place. I love hunting down special/seasonal/limited release craft beers and this place consistently has something interesting and tasty to try. Also, their prices are usually preferable to Wegmans, C&C, etc. and on top of that the staff is super knowledgable and friendly. Definately check this place out.
