I stopped into this locarion one day about a month or two ago on a Saturday afternoon while I waited for my Mexican food from El Monterrey next door (also a good place to stop into.)I was browsing Nintendo Switch games and an employee, possibly a manager, came up and had a really nice talk with me. He just asked what games I liked and then recommended me a game I would have never got otherwise, Hades. I decided to buy it based on his recommendationand Ive been playing it non-stop ever since.I just wanted to point out how a friendly, knowledgeable employee earned the store money as I wouldnt have bought anything that day if not for that employee.Ive had bad experiences at various Game Stops before. It used to be you could not check out from Game Stop without a high-pressure sales pitch to buy a pre-order. Here, the sales interaction was organic and pleasant and much more effective. Kudos to this location and its employees who were all very pleasant.

Did not have item i was looking for. Disapointing

Inexpensive, gently used game gear. From accessories, merch, console accessories, to console games. Game stop buys back games for pennies on the dollar if a gamer in need wants a quick buck. Maybe only even a single dollar. Great, cheap games; I highly recommend Big Chungus for Xbone.

Must wear mask which I cant do for any length of time so had to get in and out. Prices are good though

Best experience in a gamestop. The employees are always ready to help, and are very good about giving the freedom to look around without trying push anything on you. The employees are extremely knowledgeable as well, each one having a specialty in a different area of video games and content. I recommend this place to everyone.

Went in to buy an RPG game a little while back. While looking for it one of the employees tried selling me on one of the call of duty games which I declined 4 or 5 times until he got mad and went in the back of the shop never to be seen again. Went home and bought the game on steam for $5 less.

Went to the Altoona Gamestop to return games for cash and one of the staff employees said there not taking cash or trade ins for xbox 360. I would rather go to merle hay or urbandale Gamestop because they had a the games that i am looking for and possibly even ankeny Gamestop.

First time at the altoona GameStop tonight and the guy in the pink shirt was really rude me and the wife went in to ask questions about a game and his attitude was unnecessary.

My last 2 visits went the same way. Your 2nd register guy (Chris) received a phone call as I was standing ready to purchase a single game with no extra rewards memberships. Just had to swipe my credit card and leave. He walked away and the conversation went on for far too long. Teach your employees to ring customers up and take calls at the same time. Big waste of time.

I love Michael; hes so cool. The entire staff is very nice and knowledgable. This is the only GameStop in Iowa that I legitimately enjoy going to no matter who is manning the counter.

Great service! Informed me of deals when I came in and even suggested a game for me based what I was already purchasing. They even went being to contact another Gamestop for an item they didnt have in their store and now have an item on hold. I love this store!!

The staff was nice. I dont typically frequent GameStops but I was pleased with the amount of other pop culture items for sale. Great place to get off gifts for gamers.

Some of the staff go way over the top to help you. Michael is great. We love coming to the store in Altoona, Iowa. They have an awesome selection. We occasionally go to the one in Urbandale as well. We like Chris who works there. Customer service is A+.

Love that I can spend $260 on a PS4, they buy it back same condition for $75 not even 6 months later then put it back on the shelf for $260.

Small on the outside, but full of gamers goods on the inside. New manager has changed service so employees are much more helpful and fun. Lots of Pokemon stuff. Very good to non traditional gamers like me, an old lady whos played Pokemon for 20 years.

Great store with one flaw. I have bought many games here and the employees are always nice, I like the demos you can play, but I’ve had 2 issues with the app. I use it to find stuff I might want to save up for, but it’s wrong. First I wanted a controller for my Wii U that I found on the app, and they didn’t have it. The app said they did. The same thing happened today when I wanted to buy an Xbox 360. The app said they had it, but it lied. I still love the store. Great employees, great service, great prices

The store manager disrespected me as a female gamer. I was standing in line to make a purchase, and a young kid walked in wanting to trade games. I was ignored. The kid was allowed to budge me in line. The manager refused to talk to me, talked to my fiance, and talked to my son, but is very anti girl gamer. I will not go to the Altoona location.

I was sold I COUNTERFEIT copy of Street Fighter 5. Took it back, they were able to look up the purchase, get a purchase history, but said I needed a receipt. Understandable. Fine, but there is a problem when the receipt is not something you own anymore because you didnt expect to get sold a COUNTERFEIT game. Unacceptable. It was completely wrapped in plastic, I get home and it was a Blue Ray Case with a printer paper of the game art on the front. The game itself???? A blank CD with the game art of Street fighter on the front. No PlayStation watermarks or nothing. So I call GameStop Customer service and only after 2 HOURS did they refund my game. I have nothing against GameStop, I am a Best Buy Employee and even if we take fully wrapped returns we check our games. And the best part is when we called another GameStop I regularly go to they said they could help me with or without the receipt as long as I had the power up rewards used when buying it. NO EXCUSE! What if a kid had got that for Christmas and dad had to say, sorry son. We cant play the game because GameStop sold us a counterfeit copy. Sorry buddy but you can look at the case. I would be more than willing to speak to a store manager but when I came in the store the only helpful one was Nick. 5 stars for him. Minus the waste of a 45 min drive to Altoona. Everyone else looked at me like I was crazy. I have shopped at GameStop for 7+ years and from now on I will express my experience to anybody thinking of going there. Sorry you have to lose CUSTOMERS because you cant check your returned games. Unacceptable. GameStop in Altoona will never receive my service and none of my friends or family services EVER. 👎👎👎👎👎

GameStop sells all types of video games and more - you can find deals here, other times, the pricing is overblown v online retail. Trade-ins are welcome, but the amount of credit given is a convenience with reduced yield vs privately selling them one-by-one, but is immediate instead of days, weeks, ...years..(?) Amazons trade-in process by comparison is even lower yield with the added wait, plus you have to do a lot more legwork.The biggest problem I find with GameStop is their checkout process - if you want to purchase a game, the time required from handing the teller your selection and the end of the transaction is unacceptable...up to 10m regularly. This isnt an issue of staffing; its just the process of the transaction and the steps involved, paired with dated checkout hardware. Inevitably, no matter time of day, expect to wait in a line; if its busy, Amazon.com can deliver ...sometimes..(?). This is the worst aspect by far shopping at GameStop.

Great Service.I have been in this location several times. Once to get a 3Ds which went very well. The most satisfied time was when I went in to get a Xbox controller to play on PC. I stated I wanted a used one or an off brand one and they did not try and push me to buy a new one which I really appreciated.

Ive been going to the Altoona Gamestop ever since I was a kid. Theyve always been one of the better ones with dilligent employees and good deals. If you dont like the one by you, try the Altoona one!

They stay up to date with stuff but half the staff doesnt seem very knowledgable when you ask questions and they keep forgetting to give me my pre-order bonus, which is why I get it from them and not the xbox store. A little frustrating but some of the staff are very helpful, but theyre not always there.

Bought a refurbished Xbox one from GameStop for $230 about four to five months ago. The hardware has already crapped out on me and so I called GameStop. They said that there was nothing they could do for me.... Dont sell a product if you arent willing to stand behind it.
