No wait to get in Sunday after 1 PM. They do close at 2 PM on Sunday, FYI. Ordered a caramel malt and it was served in the malt glass and the rest was in the mixing tin. It was delicious.I ordered their Classic Ride burger (2 patties, pepper jack cheese) and it was big. My wife ordered the tenderloin and it was huge! Hint: the tenderloin was served without condiments on it.We both got fries and these are battered fries that are fantastic.Both meals were good and required to go boxes.
Got food poisoning from the Ice cream there. Was in agony all night. Called the next morning to inform them their ice cream might be spoiled or something. The manager in return wanted my medical records and Drs name to prove I had food poisoning. You do not ask for someones medical records. Its against the law. I didnt want my money back for ICE CREAM?? Come on. I wanted to inform him his ice cream might be bad. He said there was no way possible they just got a shipment in. He obviously doesnt know how you can contract food poisoning. Horrible customer service.
Found this place while out for a morning drive. Breakfast was delicious and the service was superb. They ran out of English muffins and the owner came out to apologize and offer alternatives. The decor really makes the place and it is both clean and fun. Hang with the locals and find a filling breakfast at the same time. Good portions and good prices.
Not impressed! The food was okay. Service was also okay. With breakfast being my favorite meal, I wouldn’t get it from Sugar Shack. I have heard from others that it was good. I wouldn’t call it good nor would recommend it. I wouldn’t call the food bad either. Just mediocre I guess.
No wait to be seated, but it took 45 minutes to get eggs. Waitress was rude when I sent my extra crispy bacon back. Asked for condiments 3 times. The food that was edible was good. Basic breakfast
Worth a visit. It has the old diner vibe with checkered patterns and colored vinyl booths. Pretty disappointed by the conflicting signs... outside says breakfast ...interior door has a note saying breakfast ends at 11am. Im a big breakfast fan. But the brunch burger was good and the strawberry shake was the bomb.

My father and I made the 50 minute trip yesterday to try this place out. The atmosphere was 50s diner style, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. The gentleman at the register when we went to pay asked questions to make sure we were happy with our experience. We were of course, and I had commented on the car photos on the wall behind the register as my son had been wanting some like that for his room. The gentleman called his wife to see where she got them, and even went as far to take them off the wall to see if it showed the website they had purchased them on. I thought that was a nice gesture to go above and beyond to make sure I had the information I needed to purchase the pictures myself... He didnt have to, but the fact he took the time to look meant a lot to me. If youre looking for a spot to enjoy some yummy food with an amazing staff, check out the sugar shack, I promise youll be glad you did.

Staff was friendly but the wait was long. Some of the food was cold, was going to say something to my server but I overheard another customer complain and his server said there was nothing she could do. Coffee tasted like water, oj was warm. First time here and cant say I would be rushing back.

Great place. The owner is very nice and always makes a point to come and talk to us. We had the chicken fried steak dinner last time and it was very good. We are picky on our mashed potatoes and these did not disappoint. It was nice to support a nonchain small business.
We ate there last weekend and the service was great however the food was not. My husband order the Tenderloin Combo. The tenderloin was burnt and hardly any meat to it. The fries were good though. I ordered the Crispy chicken bacon ranch sandwich combo. The ranch was chunky, the bacon was missing and the “crispy chicken” was a chicken strip. The owner comped my bacon and my drink for the inconvenience. We’ve been there twice since they moved locations and haven’t been impressed.
Walked up not knowing they were closed between 2-4, the owner saw my two littles and opened up to get them some ice cream on a HOT day! Outstanding service which lacks most other places!
Amazing malts and French fries. I also had the tenderloin which started out pretty good but then I hit a spot in the middle that had no meat, only breading and right next to that there was a pretty big chunk of gristle, and overall seemed like it might have been cooked in oil that was past its prime. Overall Id go back just not sure Id get the tenderloin again.

Been here several times to pull up and find it closed. Told they did not have the cheese frenchy. Take it they order in frozen product and dont do much actual cooking.

Was ok. We were disappointed when we showed up with the kids after mass (about 11am on Sunday) and found we couldnt get breakfast. Food was alright-nothing terribly exciting or memorable but decent enough diner food. Seemed to take a really long time from entering to exiting. We allowed the kids to get an ice cream treat. Again, a long wait for a restaurant that wasnt very full and was appropriately staffed. Treats were ok too. Would not recommend the brownie ice cream treat-the brownie was rock hard, even after sitting in the ice cream. Chocolate shake was good. Wait staff was nice. Will probably not be in the top pick for a return visit.

Poor service, had to wait at least 15 minutes to get my order taken. Had to ask at least twice for everything. I thought it was very expensive for 1 Pancake & 2 strips of bacon. Will not be back.
I like sugar shack and I think people should support local small businesses. I also think that goes double since the coronavirus has ruined the economy.I do want to point out that, if you havent eaten here before you shouldnt be expecting a fine dining experience. This is not that kind of place. This isnt a knock. Just calling it like I see it.
First time last night as staying in Altoona for the night. WOW. Huge tenderloin made very well. Chicken fried chicken amazing. Hot fudge malt very good. Great staff. clean and fin theme. Only thing didnt like was a canned vegetable. Otherwise go check it out.

I got the Sugar Shack combo and highly recommend it! The tenderloin was so huge and with the cheeseburger on top it was my lunch and super! If you like thin homemade onion rings this is the place to go. They are delicious!
This place has been open since I was a kid. Great place, lots of memories at the old location but the new location is in a much better location, imo. Great place, small local business. I will always remember this restaurant. :)

Was very disappointing waitress came off as not wanting to be their took forever to get food and even longer to get a refill and kids ice cream also took a long time not fun with young ones

The staff was friendly, and the food was okay. I found a hair on my plate that was not my own, but it wasnt touching my sandwich. I got the chocoholic ice cream (clever and fun name), but it tasted really fruity. The decor was outstanding and really fun, and the carrots were the best Ive eaten.

My friend and I went here on a little quick trip and it was the perfect place! The atmosphere was so fun and it is a family owned business which I love supporting. Everyone was so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. As far as the food, BEST burger and fries!!! The fries were to die for! We are doing another trip JUST to come here.
Good food. Breakfast came back which is what I wanted most. However I got there at 11 when they “opened” based on their hours but breakfast was no longer served at 11. So you need to update your hours and I’ll be back for breakfast.*Edit* I noticed that your hours on your store front changed when I left but the hours on Google werent updated. I will definitely be back for breakfast. A staple in the community.
Just ate here. Locally owned. Pretty tasty food. If you like pickles, try the fried pickles. Theyre delicious! Our server was great & the staff was very friendly & attentive. If youre around, try this place. Folks, if we dont shop local. These places wont remain open. Go. You wont be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this place. It has all the old school diner feel, jukebox, pinball machine, claw machine. The booths and seating were all classic diner colors. The staff there and the owner were amazing. The food was huge portions even over the lunch hour and still budget cheap. Definitely will be back.

I ordered a tenderloin and french fries off of doordash. The menu on doordash said crinkle cut fries. The fries I got are good but they are not crinkle cut french fries. The tenderloin is overcooked.
I am currently driving away from Sugar Shack right now and on my way to Culvers because my family and I went to Sugar Shack tonight for dinner. We were seated promptly. However, no one came to our table to serve us. Three other tables were seated after us and all received drinks, malts and already were having their orders taken. My daughter went to the hostess and asked if there was a waitress for our table? The gal said yes shell be on her way. At least three servers passed our table multiple times. I made eye contact multiple times. But, no service was ever provided. We sat there at least 15 min with no one ever coming to the table to even take a drink order. So, we got up and left. I will never be back.
I have never been to The Sugar Shack so we thought we would try it tonight. I really wanted to like it but I hate to say it wasnt very good. I had a grinder and my husband had the pot roast. The grinder bun was soggy like it sat in the kitchen for 20 minutes before bringing it out. The fries also seemed like they were old and I got the last bit of the bag. My husband had 1 bite of the pot roast and didnt eat anymore. Nobody asked how anything was or why our food was still there when we asked for the check. I know the waitress saw the food was still there and yet nothing. Very disappointed.
The hospitality of the owner of the sugar shack is terrible. Using foul language towards employees of business partners in view of customers. Chewing them out over policies and guidelines he has no clue about nor has any business involving his arrogant self in.
We love the unbreaded grilled tenderloin!
Ordered by phone for curb side pick up and was ready and out to us shortly after arrival and the food was hot and fresh and probably best chicken sandwich Ive had in a long time. Way to go Sugar Shack!! Thank you!!

The service was great. The tenderloin with Graziano sausage was okay. The Hawaiian chicken was a little disappointing it was pretty bland. The pickle fries the pickles were too thin and by the time they were cool enough to eat they were soggy. But the shakes were delicious well worth the price!!!

3 stars are pushing it! Nice portions and I wanted it to be good. The burger meat was crispy but flavorful even though the bun was soggy on bottom. Sirloin was cheap frozen junk with powdered potatoes and straight from can green beans. You can taste the can. It can be great but reminds me of a place struggling to hold on! Maybe will give it a second chance, maybe!
Food was delicious. Service could have been better. I ate my entire meal without the waitress asking if we wanted refills. Even after delivering more food we had to stop her so i could ask for a refill of soda.
Always wanted to try sugar shack. Then their old location closed down, then coronavirus happened. But this didnt deter me. I decided to make an order through doordash today. I ordered. Then I waited. I waited. And I waited some more. An hour later my order is cancelled by sugar shack and now they are closed on door dash. Hey sugar shack, if youre not gonna take orders through doordash, just dont be on doordash.
Its clean, new, and they had huckleberry shakes. The bathroom smelled nice. The food looked good but I only got ice cream. Will go back.

Great food and if you go there I recommend the chicken wrap it is so good. Their malts are so good I definitely recommend going there. It takes about 10 minutes to get your food and service is great. Last the staff is so friendly.
Over rated. I think the high ratings mostly comes from the generosity of locals, supporting a locally owned small business. However, in trying to make an unbiased opinion, the food is pretty average tasting. I could make the shake at home in a blender with Blue Bunny and some milk. No disrespect, just my honest opinion.
First time visiting since they moved to the new place. Like they have school kids serving and giving them a chance for a job. Great food and tons of options!
