My wife and I are in Altus visiting our son and his family for the Thanksgiving holidays and were taken by them to the Whirlwind Bookstore. As much as they raved about it we couldnt wait to see it for ourselves. We found it to be a nicely restored older building with a classic bookstore layout and a small bakery on one end. The books are organized by types, with displays of the more widely read and interesting books prominently featured. There were tables and chairs placed around the store to read and a cute little alcove with bean bag chairs under the stairs for kids to hang out and read in. Upstairs is a lounge area with couches and chairs, and we were told that the open space is used for yoga classes. We loved the cookies from the Lifes a Batch bakery, which also had cupcakes for sale. Coffee and drinks were available as well. We could have stayed all night but had to leave for other plans. A definite no-miss place if youre in the area.

Quaint little bookstore on the street corner downtown Altus. The transformation photos placed on the shelves in the store show a light and dark evolution of the once abandoned venue. Now a charming “third” space, this bookstore is a great place to explore, grab a muffin, even bring kids (big kids book section and play area). Comic book/game store and lounge upstairs.

Absolutely a great place to visit when coming through Altus! My husband and I found this bookstore by chance while walking by. After a quick visit I knew I had to bring my daughter back here to browse Whirlwinds selection of books. We decided to visit Thursday after work. While my daughter was busy browsing their large selection I made my way back to the bakery. The staff was super helpful. There were cookies, muffins, cakes and even a bar for those 21 and over. The prices are great. The lady at the front knew so much about the books for my daughters age. It was a great overall experience and we will be back again soon. Support your local small book stores people!!!!

I went in with a friend, she saw a book and really wanted it but didnt have the cash on her. After I took her home I went right back and bought it and the stuffed toy with it. Told the 2 girls and they said if she came back they would hide them and be our. As it turned out she had me take her back and they had the book. Great people work there. 5 stars....

Whirlwind book bar is a pretty good place to go. There are a large assortment of books. There is a bakery conjoined to it called Lifes a batch and they have some really delicious items. There is a second story that has a few tables and a few couches where people can relax, read books, eat the items they bought from the bakery, and just hang out. There are also days arranged to play games such as banana grams and Magic the Gathering. My only complaint is that the books are quite expensive at times, but theyre all in good quality. The people who work there are nice and helpful.

Everyone is so friendly, the service is wonderful. Their selection of books is great and they can special order if needed. The atmosphere is fun for both adults and kids alike. They are attached to a bakery so buy a book, grab a treat, and head upstairs to their sitting area to cozy up with a book.

This is a beautiful book store. Everything is so tidy and neat. Theres a place above the bookstore (upstairs) where you can buy / play magic cards. We did not test out the bakery but we hear good things!

A charming little bookstore with an incredibly helpful staff. The offerings here are pretty limited if you are just browsing and looking for something without any particulars. They are able to order various titles, but if you are not sure what you are looking for or looking to discover something new, may prove difficult. The children’s section is small and has a few decent options for kids, but more can be found in the young adult section.

These guys have a bakery. Its the Bomb dot com. The cookies are huge. Delicious. No matter the batter! The book store is well lit. Perfect place to spend an hour or more. Grab a cookie or piece of pie or cake.
