Purchased one of the rental boats from Larry and was very pleased with the transaction both in terms of communication and the condition of the boat. Also appreciated the walkthrough of the boat / engine from Chuck. I would highly recommend working with Fairwinds and would trust them with either service or a purchase.
Wonderful place! Has everything you need for boating! Friendly owners and people! Manager John is great!
Great place for Yamaha parts, thanks for the help and knowledge today guys
So beautiful view 🚣🏊🌅
Do not keep your boat here!Apparently their new policy (Oct 2020) is that if your boat is older than 1990, then they consider you a probable deadbeat who will not pay your bills. Background : I love working on boats. It’s a simple hobby that provides a lot of relaxation. So from time to time, I will pick up a project boat and work on it. Once complete, I will give it away or sell it at cost to a fellow Veteran.I have brought in various boats to this Marina multiple times throughout the years. Each time I did, the Marina staff was fantastic. They were always extremely helpful and accommodating.Last month, I was offered another project boat. So I went down and met the Marina Manager to get a spot. I told the manager what I was doing with the boat and why. At the time I told him that I expected to be done working on the boat in about thirty days and would prefer leasing month to month. He told me that it was no problem and that they hadplenty of space.During the conversation, he told me that the Marina had several boats in the yard that they needed to get rid of, and asked me if I was interested in them. We then toured the yard with him showing me the various boats. I told him that I would be interested in them one at a time after I finished the one I just received. With that, I paid the bill and brought my new project boat in.At the end of the month, I got a voicemail from the manager saying that I was the end of my month, and that if I wanted to keep it there then I needed to do a winter lease. This wasnt what we discussed, but I understood that they have a business to run, so I went down to the Marina to meet the manager to sign a lease. That was when the manager told me about “Larry’s” rule about boats older than 1990. The manager then gave me one week to get my boat out of the Marina. He then asked me if I wanted to buy one of their newer boats for sale. I was furious.I paid for the week and left, and pulled my boat out of their Marina days later. If a company tells you that they don’t want your money or business, then respect their wishes and take your money elsewhere!
Yamaha dealer. Great place to get factory parts. Good service.
Reasonably clean and convenient.
Great mechanics shopChuck fixed my very old Evinrude 8HP outboard motor at a very reasonable cost.I was afraid I had blown the head gasket when it overheated but Chuck properly diagnosed that only the impeller and thermal sensors had failed
Helpful and knowledgeable staff, and quick + easy stop at the parts store.
My name is Joe and I am not one to write reviews, tweet, share, post or any of the trendy on line stuff that people seem to find time to do however, I MUST voice my view and experience that I had at Fairwinds. I am not entirely new to boating but it has been a long time since I owned or operated a boat. After many years of waiting, looking and researching we finally decided it was time to buy a new boat. Actually, Fairwinds was not our first choice. Sadly we had gone to a big, multiple location national dealer. The short version; I think if we had been in the market for a million dollar boat we would have been served better. I was ready to give up. then I happened to Fairwinds. Larry, Richard and the rest of the people at Fairwinds could not have been more accommodating and understanding of our needs. the service was stellar. Buying a new boat should be a happy experience and the people at Fairwinds did that perfectly. My only regret is that I didnt find them sooner. I am looking foreword to a lasting relationship and will continue to do business with them.
Excellent Marina. Great staff. Good selection of boating needs.
They could not have been less professional if they tried. Not a single person knew what was going on. Also, the boats they have listed for sale are sold/don’t exist.
Larry was awesome throughout and after our purchase! We had some minor issues with fabric & decals before and after the sale and Larry made it right! Very professional and outstanding person. Thanks Larry we love our 222 Wellcraft!
Love this place
Both my good buddy and I keep our boats at this marina and could not be more pleased with the service. Staff is al ways helpful and kind. The marina itself is well kept and manicured. Larry even helped us out late in the day when we were in a pinch. Overall, highly recommended for anyone who needs wet or dry storage for their boat. Great place!
I was recommended by neighbor. I have been a bit hesitant to go to another mechanic after my many issues with a shop in my area that was completely incompetent. Chuck nailed the diagnosis and the repairs were better than factory. The diagnosis was written and detailed plus my old parts were returned. It’s been nearly two months and she runs like a top. Very satisfied!
I love Fairwinds and Dobbins Island just 2 miles away.... the family at fairwinds love people and do their best... what more can we ask
The new owner has really transformed this business. If you hear about any problems, chances are it is folks experience from the past. Give them a try! Have done outstanding work on all our Youth Sailing program Yamaha outboards each year. Fairwinds cares about their customers, and supports the local boating and sailing community.
Alison was very helpful in finding a water pump for my Mercury outboard. Kuddos!!
Very peaceful great place to read a book and relax
When you deal with Fairwinds, make sure that you have someone on the phone that knows what they are doing. If you dont, a great experience turns into a mess.
I took my boat into Fairwinds marine after being told by 2 other marine repair shops that I need new shift cables, and additional other service. I had heard they were under new ownership and thought I would give them a try since they are closer to my home. I gave them a list of items to check out. and they did. They got to the boat when they said they would and estimated very timely. They told me I did not need new cables, but rather just adjustments. All the repairs they made were good and the adjustments did fix the shift problem. I was going to sell boat since it is getting older, but now have decided to keep the boat since I have found a shop that is convenient and that I can trust. I strongly recommend them
I had my boat serviced at this facility twice and both times were a pleasurable experience and the work was done right the first time. They also have a huge inventory of parts and seem to have what I need in stock.
Great marina! Larry Goldberg and his staff have been most helpful on every question or issue we have had! I highly recommend this marina!
Always very helpful the mechanic are the best
For those who do not know, this place is under new management as of August 2013. the new owner took good care of me and I was completely satisfied in my experience there. Ill be back. Give him a try!.....
Need parts ? Need older parts that you thought youd need to mail order, give Fairwinds a try. I rarely come away from the store without finding what I need, from hardware, paint, epoxy, trailer parts... you name it. IF they dont have it, they can get it as well.
The guys at the counter were great.
Caught me some nice catchfish had a blast
My experience at Fairwinds Marina was totally professional. Couldnt ask for better service. I will surely be back, I was blown away by theyre classic and antique outboards. They have some real nice stuff, not junk as I read in one review. Sure there are some parts motors but they are marked as such. I was half afraid of going there after reading some reviews but was totally satisfied with the experience. Ive purchased a lot of outboard motors and after paying for them I was left to haul them to the truck myself. These fellas made sure they carried everything to my car I just showed them where to put them. Most times folks leave reviews its because theyre dissatisfied, just remember there are two sides to every story. I had a great time ! Check out theyre ebay store there is a reason they have 100% positive feedback
Excellent location to points North, East and South on the bay. Close to the bay on the Magothy. Plus, the Magothy is a beautiful river. The people Ive met at Fairwinds are friendly and very helpful.Excellent marina!
Wonderful pier to fish and crab
Awesome experience with Freedom Boat Club and Capt Bill
The Blind leading The Blind. So many things wrong with this place Its hard to pick one. Ethanol Fuel at Marine Prices is your first sign. Stay away.
Wonderful marina, wonderful owners and employees
I tried three shops for Yamaha outboard service before I tried Fairwinds. Chuck and his service team are by far the best.
Great customer service. They got me hook....
I had an unpleasant experience with the owner last summer. I rated this place one star. The owner found me and called me. He remembered the incident and apologized. Thank you. Seems like it was just a misunderstanding.
Good
I HAD FAIRWINDS MARINA INSTALL TWIN EVINRUDES G2 ON MY PROKAT ABOUT 40 HOURS OF USE AND I AM 100% HAPPY WITH THE OUTBOARDS! BUT MORE SO I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE FRIENDLY CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THE QUAULITY OF WORK THEY PROVIDED. I HAVE NEVER WROTE A REVEIW BEFORE UNTIL THIS ONE BUT I AM THAT HAPPY SO I THOUGHT EVERYONE LOOKING FOR BOAT REPAIRS SHOULD CONSIDER FAIRWINDS! (MY FIRST SEA TRAIL WAS BALTIMORE CANYONS WITH NEW ENGINES)
Stay Away!! Took my boat in on 08/01/16 for a check engine light (code 17: 55 V alternator output less than 45 V at 500 to 1000 RPM, or less than 52 V above 1000 RPM. Perform stator/charging tests) on both motors at idle and to fix my trim and tilt button. I gave them pre authorization of $500 in parts and labor charges. As of 08/05/16 my boat had not been looked at, on 08/08/16 I called to check in and Chuck said they were looking at it and they would call me back later in the day, but I had a short in my wire harness and that they were looking into that. On 08/09/16 I called Chuck after not hearing from him and was told “this has been a learning experience for us”, an understatement if you ask me. I was told that it is most likely my EMM’s and parts alone would be $1,700 plus programing and installation, but he wanted to test my battery cables in the morning and would call me back the next morning. On 08/10/16 Chuck called and said that after calling the tech line they looked at my flywheels and he suggested replacing them first at $1000 each to “see” if that would solve my problem then if that didn’t work to replace my EMM. After pondering all of this in my head I asked Chuck to put my boat back together and that I would pick it up. Chuck then proceeded to tell me that they had over 20 hrs invested into the boat but would “help me out” and only charge me $900. When I pointed out that that I only authorized $500.00 in work Chuck told me that he assumed since he spoke with me I knew he was putting in a lot of time. He finally agreed to the $500 but also said “we will never work on your boat again”. I said ok, when I arrived at the marina to pick up my boat I was told it would not be ready for another 2 hrs. Shocking, considering they had my boat for several days and did nothing to it. After I picked up, I called the owner Larry who gave me some options (like repowering) but was insistent on me paying the remaining $400.00 before anything. On 08/15/16 I took my boat out and noticed my starboard tachometer was not working. I called Larry who told me, the tachometer not working has nothing to do with what they did (btw they said before they messed with my wire harness and flywheel) and that they “go bad all the time.” I am not a mechanic by any means, but I am smart enough to know that an unqualified technician messing with wiring harnesses can inadvertently short something out.So to summarize, I took my boat to an authorized EVINRUDE factory service center who took a week to look at the boat (after a 3 week wait to bring it in) was told my boat was being used for the technician to learn on and they still did not have a diagnosis except to try over $5,400 in parts to see if that would solve my problem. I was originally charged $900 for them to fix nothing except my tilt switch (a $67.00 part). After pointing out that I only authorized $500.00, and that the overage was not authorized, I was then told not to come back for any further work. The cherry on top of this awful experience- the tachometer no longer works and they are saying it wasn’t them, so now I am out $500 and my boat still needs work. This boat has been serviced since 2006 at Lou’s Marine in Grasonville. I recently moved to the Magothy and was looking forward to having a dealer just a mile up the river to work on my boat, boy was that a mistake. I paid $500 to get my boat back worse condition then when I took it in. In my opinion the techs at Fairwinds are not trained to work on E-tec’s and are using customer’s boats to learn while ripping them off. Let my lesson be your warning. If you want to take your boat out of the shop with more problems than you came in with, this is the place for you.
I have used services at Fairwinds Marina since August 2011. Services included storage, winterization, de-winterization, bottom/outdrive painting, engine and outdrive repairs. I have consistently been satisfied with the service provided and prices have been reasonable. Since Larry Goldberg and his daughter, Joanna, have taken over its ownership and operations a couple of years ago, I have witnessed a significant improvement in the property and professionalism of its staff. Recently, the staff was most helpful in getting my 2004 Crownline ready to sell. Joanna effectively arranged and coordinated most of the activities such as painting, maintenance services, launching, and storing it on a stand and in a slip. Chuck (lead maintenance tech) and Richie did a superb job of repairing a compression problem with the engine and subsequently doing de-winterization maintenance to ready the boat for launch. The paint crew did an equally superb job or removing barnacles from the outdrive/propeller, painting the outdrive, and bottom painting the hull. When it came time for the boats buyer to do a sea trial, Larry (the owner) expedited getting the boat in the water by operating the lift himself with the able assistance another staff member, Bill. Bill was most helpful in getting the boat refueled and identifying a slip to put the boat in after the sea trial. The boat performed perfectly during the sea trial. Just prior to closing on the sale I noticed a noise coming from under the boats head. I asked Chuck (lead maintenance tech) to check it out -- within two hours he had identified the problem (stuck float on the sump pump under the head) and provided guidance on how to resolve the problem. The transfer of ownership of the boat went without a hitch due in large part to the support I received from the Fairwinds staff. I am a very satisfied customer and strongly recommend Fairwinds to others.
UPDATE 10/3: Fairwinds are BOLD face Lairs. Not sure what is similar to my review and any others except rating your horrible service department.Wow what a Joke! Chuck the service manager could care less about customer service or fixing anything right and Larry the owner is all nice and helpful until you try to talk about the bad service his Joke of a Marina offers. The techs here have don’t know what they are doing! I think Chuck might but is probably too busy dealing with all screw ups to fix anything right the first time. They just want to throw YOUR money in replacing part rather than diagnosing the problem first. Take your boat ANY PLACE BUT FAIRWINDS. Took my boat to South Shore Marine off Richie Hwy. They fix my problem the first time and returned my boat in better condition than when I dropped it off.
A long established marina with engine service, ships store and lots of slips. The docks need work pretty bad though, so hopefully the get on it. A seawall or wave interruption wall needs built as well, most slips are wide open to waves from the Magothy River.
Friendly workers and peaceful
Nice spot
So cute
Very good
