Best place! Was in the Bay Area and needed work done, stopped at one of the 100s of BMW shops and they gave me a cheap air intake hose which barely even made it the few hundred miles back to Humboldt.I took it to German Motors and they remiedied it quickly, even while booked.Definitely not going anywhere else again!

Locked myself out of my truck at the car wash across the street wandered into their shop hoping they could help, Jon came right over and got it open for me. Stand up shop would recommend excellent service

These guys are great! They were super helpful and friendly, they got my smog check done very quick and they even gave me some tips on what types of oil I should be using and how to take better care of my car. Would 100% recommend them to my friends.

This shop is honest and fair. I had my timing belt, water pump and thermostat replaced on my 98 Tacoma. They stayed accurate to the price quote they gave me even though the time required was more than quoted. Much appreciated as Im on a tight budget. They showed me the parts that was replaced and they were friendly and nice to deal with. I will definitely return with future needed repairs.

I stopped going over to Mid City because their prices started getting way too high. Just to get a diagnostic would have been nearly over $200. And then one finally being able to get in and fix it would probably be an additional over $300. Im happy we came back to German Motors. It cost me just under $300 with parts and labor to find out what was wrong. Thank you so much!

Had my Beetle battery go out suddenly. I called a previous shop who said they would charge me 120 + for an hour of service because that’s how long it would take to replace not including the battery itself. I came here and right away took a look at my car & had a way more reasonable estimate with the battery price included within 10 minutes. They said it would take 45 mins of labor but I was out in 30!! Such a friendly and great staff, John was especially helpful! I would come back again. I 100% recommend this place.

These gays are super helpful and friendly. I don’t feel like I am over paying here. Owning a VW means lots of odd jobs and weird ways of getting to parts, so it isn’t easy to always do things myself. They can always get me in right away and I feel comfortable to call them about all kinds of questions that pop up. I love my V dub, so I’m happy to have a place that I can trust with her.

I cant express how much I like this shop and their crew. The best place in Humboldt to take a German or European car. Thanks Guys.

DO. NOT. GO. HERE. There, saved you a lot of time and money. I went here with a broken slave cylinder on my car before a road trip. Paid them $400 to put a new slave cylinder on, but instead of doing what I paid them for they just flushed my clutch fluid and said everything was fine, but still charged me $400. Fast forward a month, and 800 miles into said road trip, and guess what breaks? My clutch slave cylinder. So now I have to pay someone else to do what these idiots were incapable, or unwilling, to do. Save your money, and time, and support a mechanic who does a good job, by not going here. These guys also wanted to charge me 600$ to install tie rods on my E36 M3. Yeah right, thats a 2 hour job; they essentially wanted 300$ an hour?!. Again, save your time, and money, and go anywhere else. I know the pain of owning a German car in Humboldt, but this isnt your answer.

We were on a road trip to the Humboldt Redwoods from Portland, OR in our 76 Westy and started smelling gas outside of Crescent City. We couldnt figure out what was going on and called German Motors of Arcata as we were passing through Trinidad, expecting to possibly have to stay over to get her looked at. To our surprise they told us they would be happy to give her a look the same day ...even though it was already late afternoon. The owner was patient with us, so kind, incredibly knowledable of old VW buses, and did a thorough check to confirm our pressure system was fine and there were no leaks. I could not have been more grateful for their willingness to check our rig out on such short notice. I wish I lived in Arcata so they could be our go to mehcanics for all our tune up, maintenance, and repair needs. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thanks to German Motors of Arcata for such great service.

We just showed up with our sick 78 be van on our trip down the 101and they took care of us as if we had been long term customers. I cant say enough about the great customer service we received.

My first experience with German Motors was very positive. We were traveling north from Mendocino County when the Westys transmission refused to shift. We limped back to German Motors and they fit us in that same afternoon, diagnosed the problem and fixed it for only $35. We went back on the road and were able to complete our trip. Their work has always been good. I wouldnt trust anyone else with our 1982 Westfalia.
