This place has always been amazing to me, even if I usually only buy ammo. If I knew they had better prices than my local gun store I wouldve built my AR with parts bought from them! Great staff and great community! Also, not sure why theyre being called unfair on pricing, Ive bought over 400 rounds of 9MM last year and was barely .50 cents a round in the middle of covid. They do awesome!

This place is definitely my favorite gun store, Ive bought about 5 guns from them so far and Ive loved every single one. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they have a great selection, and best of all they have very competitive prices. I’ll be honest; after seeing some of these negative reviews I was hesitant to send my firearm transfer here. I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was very peaceful and the employees were very helpful. As a first time gun buyer this was a huge plus. I am sad to see other review being so negative, and I hope what they experienced was resolved, but my (one) experience here was entirely positive.Edit: I have been here one more time and I still think this is a good store. Employees are very nice and helpful.

I love coming here for all my firearms needs. When I first moved to North Carolina, before I even bought my first gun, my boyfriend showed me this place, and I talked to them for hours, had a great conversation, and they were so helpful in familiarizing me with firearms laws in the state. The people who work here are so friendly, professional, and customer oriented. I, rightfully so, have trust in the store and its employees. Wish I could give 10 stars

Staff was rude and had no knowledge of firearms or firearm accessories! The old sh!?bird at the counter just walked away when I asked him a question. When I did get service the kid trying to help me had no knowledge of the items they were selling at all! The prices were also outrageous, even for the times! If you want good service from a knowledgeable staff go to Asheville Armory!

Not sure why they have negative posts I went in there yesterday for the 1st time and it was a pleasant experience. I was just looking for some 9m and some .380, picked up 2 boxes of 9m unfortunately they were out of .380. Was treated very well and will return.

I walked into this establishment with the intent to buy many accessories and possibly a firearm as well. I was very excited to visit and walked in with high hopes. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but inviting or pleasant. When i entered Carolina Guns and Gear i was not greeted or even simply seen by any of the staff members despite the fact only four other individuals occupied the building. I wondered the meager supplies and overpriced goods for upwards of ten minutes never once being offered assistance or even a simple hello. After a while of waiting patiently at the front counter, i simply left and decided that this business was, in fact, just a place for old men to feel good about themselves, and not to do actual business with enthusiastic customers. If you would like to feel welcome and invited in an environment you feel comfortable in then i strongly suggest that you find another business for sure.

I understand that the coronavirus has made the store limit its occupation capacity.What I dont get is the unfriendly response that the staff has to give. I was told by the staff that I couldnt enter with my daughter. That they are over capacity right now. So we waited outside for people to leave . After two people left we tried to re-enter the store and once again told that we cannot enter just yet, but while standing outside and waiting on them to give us a response to come in. They allowed three other people into the building.If you are trying to get your child in the firearms. I do not recommend this store.They seem to treat anyone with a child with disrespect. They clearly didnt want me to bring my child into the store to look around. Im disappointed in the customer service I had received in previous times oh, but this was just the icing on the cake. I dont see myself returning to this store. They have clearly shown to me that they are not a family-friendly facility.Whether or not you believe that a child should be allowed into a store like this is up to you. But for me I want my child to understand Firearms so that way theyre not afraid to be around them and that way they hold them with respect.

Rude employees, just absolutely rude. Seems like they don’t want to be bothered to do their job, that the owner pays them to do. Maybe look into getting staff that actually helps your customers. The only thing good about this store is the 6 month layaway. My fiancé has spent THOUSANDS of Dollars here and we still get treated horribly. That’s ok though we will highly consider no longer conducting business at this establishment. Possibly.

This place is a joke, the staff act like tough guys and dont know anything about firearms. Stood at the counter for a while waiting to be helped, took 5 minutes for someone to day anything to me. Your better off dealing on Armslist.

Most of the staff was rude, disengaged, and not as knowledgeable as they think. Which explains the higher prices on everything in the store when demand is high you can do whatever. However they are slightly more stocked than the average store in the area.

Came in and purchased a CZ75b right around Christmas. Can’t remember the name of the guy I was dealing with but he was very knowledgeable and a great salesman. The store seems to have a good variety of guns to fit whoevers needs. This was one of the few places I stopped into and found that there prices and service were the best so I came back. Will also be back when the wife lets me.

Im a long haired fellow that one could easily profile as a hippie . I also work hard and love guns and own several of them. The manager wouldnt look me in the eye or hardly give me the time of day at all. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Shopping in store is a courtesy to local business owners. I can give most of their inventory for 15 to 20% cheaper online.

Wow let me start at the beginning I spent an entire week looking for a specific firearm. I called over 10 shops looking for said firearm to no avail. But then.. I stumbled upon North Carolina guns and gear, gave them the call preparing myself for the inevitable “I’m sorry sir we seem to be out of stock on that particular weapon.” And just then a man by the name of mike answered my hopes by telling me that the did indeed have that firearm in stock to which I replied that I would be to the shop within the next few hours to conduct the transaction. This man put the gun to the side for me to ensure that it wouldn’t be snagged out from under me on my way to them. When I walked into their facility I was mesmerized by the amount of inventory they had not just with firearms quantities but with firearms that can be somewhat hard to find generally. Upon making my purchase me and Mike had a 45 minute conversation and let me tell you now I have quite a bit of experience with numerous gun shops and in general many of them are very welcoming but not to the degree of which I saw at North Carolina guns and gear they were very knowledgeable and incredibly open and friendly and for those of you who are a hardcore gun enthusiast and collector like I am it’s never hard to justify any firearms purchase but to know you have such a welcoming environment as with guns and gear it just makes it that much more enjoyable. Finally when I went to pay for the purchase of the weapon I noticed it was cheaper from him than it was online NOT INCLUDING the transfer fee that would be included this was very impressive and over an awesome experience they WILL have my business again and for living an hour away I can say they will be my primary gun shop.

I went in this afternoon to look some 9mm for my wife, and a AR for myself. The service was terrible to the point my wife and I just left. I had signaled a sales rep to see the weapons, he ignored me and began to help a gentleman looking for a holster. I believe part of it was racially motivated, but I could be wrong.

These guys are friendly, knowledgeable & professional!! ordered a few guns & had them shipped there...couldnt pick them up right away and they were cool with that... they have a great store & their transfer fee is one of the lowest in the area as well!! will keep doing business with them!!!

Best staff in any gun store around here. They clearly know A LOT more than I do and I never leave without having learned something. Prices are competitive but definitely on the higher side for things like holsters. Worth it to deal with experts IMO.

Customer service is as poor as it gets. Some lug packing a Glock19 standing guard like the place was Fort Knox. Backed off when askinga basic question. Ill never darken the door again. If they go out of businessthey deserve it.

Absolutely top notch! I went in today on a busy day with a steady stream of customers coming in but I was greeted on entering even though both employees had customers and Thomas kept coming back to me even though he was extremely busy with other customers. I have an extensive firearms background but am new to the NFA process and he patiently answered all my questions.

Seemed the staff was not interested in selling their products. Price on what I was looking for was extremely high and while the sign on the wall said they would price match, I was told no this is our best price. Had money in hand to purchase but not at a store where I was basically told what they wanted me to have not what I want to buy. Hopefully others have a better experience.

I have been a solid customer for years now and these guys know me by name when i walk in the store, i love the atmosphere and they have a spectacular inventory and great taste in firearms. Tons of accessories and ammo, airsoft, gloves, ear pro. Everything you need to get out on the range and be prepared. The only thing they lack is carrying first aid equipment which i hope will be added at some point. They always have what i need and make it a mission to get me what i want.I love this place dearly and will be a life long customer. Went in with my son as he was looking to purchase a handgun. He was profiled by an associate as being to young. He was questioned about his age and told he looked to young to hold or purchase. Long story short this sale and any future sales lost. Plenty of other places to purchase from.

First time there and the staff was kind, curtious and very informative. Thomas was especially helpful with offering range suggestions and sighting tips for my rifled shotgun. I will always drop by when Im in the area!

Over the last two years I have purchased four weapons along with holsters, ammunition, etc. at this store. I have found them to be polite, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile for the customer. I had a problem with one pistol I purchased. They worked with the manufacturer and when there was still a continuing problem, they made sure that everything was made right and that I was totally satisfied. I very much appreciate their customer oriented service.

Small store but quality level and staff experience always seem high. More cordial than many and have never acted condescending like some other stores who have experts who shove their opinion down your throat. I think it has always been a good balance here... customer service is great but they also let you stare at a weapon without talking your head off.Dont like having to drive on Sweeten Creek in morning or afternoon due to super high traffic but they are worth the visit. Avoid the area during typical rush hours.

Yes the prices are usually higher than any where else but they usually have harder thing to find that with next day delivery would be pretty comparable in price but I get to put my hands on the product and they will help out if there is a problem things you can’t get at an online store and as to the staff not being friendly or polite I’d say they are below average for this area but if the store were located in New York they would be above so seems fine to me

My husband had a item on layaway at the one on sweeten creek and didnt know his time was up for the layaway period and didnt owe much as he thought he was still within time. Went to pay and they were kind and nice enough to hold it until he can say it off. This is his second time buying from them and if will continue to buy from them. Great place and people

Everyone was immediately friendly and helpful, and Eric was really patient with the questions of a newbie! He pointed out several products and gave the pros/cons of each... not just the most expensive. It felt like he was there to help and not just to hard sell, which I thoroughly appreciate.The store was clean, well-stocked, and had a lot of variety (including a ludicrous golden desert eagle!). Would rate 0 if I could. Called to see if they price match today because my husband was going to buy a gun and was too busy to call. They call me back and say they would match the price of another store. Get to the store and my husband goes to buy it and the guy says no, the deal was only for me and he wouldnt sell him the gun. Dont know what his problem was. Maybe because 2 gay men wanted to buy a gun....who knows. No worries, someone else got my business today and in the future. Take your business elsewhere.

Will not be back! We had a gun on layaway and came to get it out. I wanted the gun in my name since it was for me but because we had put the layaway under my husbands name they would not sell it to me because it was looked at as a straw purchase. So we asked if they could just switch the name on the layaway & she claimed they could not do that because it was looked at as a straw purchase. So I asked for my money back, to which they did. Then I asked since it was not on layaway any longer, that I wanted to buy the gun outright in my name, they refused me the sell even though I had a permit to buy.

Good shop, the guy I talked to was knowledgable and answered all my questions, pulled a bunch of pistols similiar to the one I was looking at, let me grope them all so I could pick the one I liked the best, and their prices were just as good as any other shop, local or online. Only thing was everything was new, didn’t see much in the way of trade-ins, I do like old S&W revolvers and sometimes prefer them to new-fangled plastic guns, but whatever - I can find those on Gunbroker.

I was recently in Ashville and needed some ammo, I went to this store sight unseen and got there right before they closed. They had a huge selection there and i wish i could have stayed longer. They arent a cheap ass gun store with a bunch of UTG products, they have name brand optics and gear, good ammo selection and a few cool harder to find pieces of gear.

Bought a rifle then after that it is like no one wants to sell or help.Thought I would do better there than the big box stores.Wrong.Really regret giving my money to them.Wont be back.

I used my NC Drivers licence to pay $1099 and order a rifle. When I came pick it up, they told me...my NCDL wasnt clear enough, I needed to go get a new one. They refused to refund my money...requested I pay a restocking fee.They fired the employee who sold me the gun for not telling me I would need a new ID before I picked up the gun. No apologies from them.

Went in to purchase a firearm. I asked if they bought used guns or traded. They said yes. I brought my piece in and immediately they said they couldnt that it was to large of a caliber. Now the weird thing is they sell my ammo and have the same caliber in the store for sale at a high price. I was told to place it on gun broker that they would never sell it because nobody want a big caliber rifle in north Carolina.I drove 27 mins to the store than left to go to another firearm store, and 27 mins home just for them to look at it and tell me in 5 seconds flat that it was to big of a caliber. Long story short, I went to another place who told me they get a lot of customers that come from Carolina gun and gear who couldnt trade a gun in, and they gladly accepted mine. I traded and spent out of pocket another 400 on top.CAROLINA GUN AND GEAR YOU LOST TODAY!!!!

My Canadian husband came into your store yesterday with all the correct documentation to purchase a handgun, which was what he was looking for. He went through the process of picking out a gun, started filling out the application and then returned to our car to get his permanent residence # (or alien number as some people call it). At that point one of your employees came out to our car and told my husband they couldnt sell him a gun and when he asked why they said,because youre a canadian and you arent a citizen. whats so funny is that my husband was absolutely within legal grounds to purchase a handgun from your store yesterday. He had all the documentation he needed, not to mention a gun permit that Buncombe County sheriffs office issued.....do you seriously think that when they did his background check to issue him the permit they wouldnt have seen that he is a Canadian citizen and stopped him right there if it wasnt legal for him to purchase a gun?!! Your employees obviously either a.) had no clue what they were talking about or b.) simply chose to discriminate against my husband because he isnt an American citizen, I am hoping it is not the latter because if it is you should all be deeply ashamed of yourselves. Oh yeah and one more thing, my Canadian husband went to another gun store today where they happily sold him a handgun LEGALLY! I will be telling all my friends and family (many of whom are avid hunters and gunsmen) not to support your store because you discriminate!

AWFUL STORE!! AWFUL PEOPLE!!!! So today I went to Carolina Guns & Gear off of sweeten creek in Asheville to buy a gun. I am a legal resident in America (greencard carrying, social security #, nc drivers license, tax payer) and was issued a handgun permit through the sheriffs office in Buncombe county. I started filling out the paper work and manager came over and said we cant sell a gun to a Canadian. Needless to say I was pissed. Carolina Guns & Gear discriminate. Please dont support this store. Why would the Buncombe County Sheriffs Office issue me a permit to buy a handgun if its illegal? Makes no sense and really makes me feel like that store simply chose to discriminate against me. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!! I have never left a review in my life but this experience deserved one...STEER CLEAR!
