Updated: revising my rating from 4 to 5. I went back to Bates the following day … because once you start tearing apart machinery, typically something else comes up. The store manager and service department were very helpful and professional - I had several questions and received sound, practical advice. I go to Home Depot for convenience; I go to Ace for expertise. I am relieved to have found a good Ace store within the city, without having to drive out to Buford for service needs.Original review (abridged):Everybody was super friendly and helpful. The Bates shop is large and well stocked with quality products and tools for general landscaping, electrical, plumbing and small carpentry work for a homeowner. I will go back, as it appears to be one of the better Ace’s within the city.Normally, I drive out to S&S in Buford (I live downtown) because S&S are the best in the entire state, with super knowledgeable personnel. It’s a high volume business and the service techs barely get a moment to breath. You can judge a good service shop by the number of professional contractors that depend on quality work to support their livelihoods - the volume there is just non-stop and Scott, the owner, treats the Pros and less-informed DIY with the same amount of respect.So far, I am impressed with the Bates store and will try out their repair shop when needed. I don’t knock the several, other In-town Ace stores in the city - however those are more focused on knick-knacks for the house, have small inventories and usually do not offer service and repair offerings.

Knowledgeable and responsible: Went in to buy a stihl chainsaw for some yard work, and Owen told me everything I needed to know. Also provided a quick turnaround on a minor mechanical issue

This is an inner city Ace and they are an excellent staff who are Truly helpful hardware folk. Get your keys made here, plumbing supplies, household goods,paints, stuff you having trouble finding at bigger suppliers, special ginger beers and even themed socks you love wearing on the weekend in your slides that says Thou shalt not mess with me Mom: 24:7. I give these guys two thumbs up! They greet you at the entrance and If you order something, they will call you for weeks if its ready for pickup!

My 2012 honda mower, something broke underneath I carried it to bates ACE HARDWARE In ATLANTA GA. FOR REPAIR . They did a great job, it runs better now than when new. Thanks for a good job. I also carried them some very hot peppers.

What an awesome experience? I was greeted by a joyful middle age gentleman upon entering the store. He directed me to the section for what I was looking for. When I arrived in that section 2 different associates asked if I needed help. I thought I was fine, but realized by the 2nd request I needed help. Expert help & they allowed me to exit & test fit the nuts & bolts for my application before I bought them. Great staff all around! I went back for honey & will definitely patronize this store again.

Don’t try and return an unused tool 21 days after you bought it, they won’t take it back. Won’t be buying much from them anytime soon.

I wish I could give this review 0 stars. My shopping experience started out great and slowly took a nose dive. The goal was to buy two bags of mulch. They requested I go around back to have it loaded and handed me a pickup ticket. I did so and had to wait so long that I walked back into the store to confirm someone would come help me. The store associate finally did and without checking my ticket, asked if I got “nuggets” and then proceeded to put two bags in the trunk. Not knowing any different, I left only to find out he gave me the wrong type. Drove all the way back to ask for correct mulch and a comp on one bag for the inconvenience. The cashiers had no idea what to do and apparently the manager refused. Didn’t even show his face. It’s a shame a “helpful place” like Ace would have such poor customer service. Save yourself the hassle and please don’t go!

I needed a key made for my 2004 Ford Escape and Bates Ace Hardware got me in and out in 15 minutes. I contacted two Ford dealerships and they wanted over a hundred. And wanted me to leave my car for two hours. Bates Ace Hardware is the place to get your keys maded.Plus I bought other items while I was there. I was continually asked did I need any help.

The cashiers @ this location are patient, kind, and extremely helpful. However, the assistant manager, Jules (sp) is a smart mouth and could care less about customer retention. I would not recommend placing an order online and picking up @ this location.

I had a bad experience here but decided to give it another try. What a mistake that was.Both times I’ve been, nobody is helpful or around to help. The last time I went, the cashiers were super rude and lazy. I was appalled when I was checking out that this was a place of business. Do yourself a favor and just go to Home Depot or Lowe’s.

This ace has everything youd expect plus a bunch of items you wouldnt think youd see in a hardware store...like socks, Bluetooth speakers and reading glasses, just to name a few. The parking lot is small and the store is located at one of the busiest, always backed up intersections in Atlanta so I would seriously consider shopping elsewhere if youre pulling a trailer because you will have difficulty entering, parking and exiting this location.

Brought in my Stihl blower for some maintenance advice. From the greeting by the cashier when coming in to the help and friendly advice from Jason I could not ask for a better experience!

Jason had the best customer service Ive came across in years. He was plesant and explain to me all the in and out of my new blower. I will be back again. He even carried everything to my vehicle for me. Bates hardware is great.

I wont shop here again. Plenty of other Ace options in town. Purchased an expensive Stihl chainsaw that couldnt be started safely with the protective equipment engaged. Was told they dont refund power equipment and theres nothing we can do . Chainsaw was clearly running rich or has low spark and no offer to replace or repair was made.Follow up to original 1 star review. General Manager of the store did reach out the following day and worked hard to correct the issue. Much better customer service from him.

Arrived at the store on New Years Eve to purchase some cleaning items and to look at landscape lighting for my home. Your greeter at the door (was a lady, dont have her name) was very pushy and not very helpful or friendly. When I was able to find what I needed, I asked her a question regarding the size of the package and was told brusquely that it was the only size available. Not a very nice experience, but then went to the checkout and paid for my items.I walked across the street to another business to find out some information for a work related issue, when I noticed the manager walked over to the building, and complained about my car being parked. I was also berated for parking at your store when I explained to him I was a customer. I was also told rudely that the management doesnt care about my complaint and they wont help, even though I explained to him again that I was a customer. He only asked afterward if I had bought something and then showed him my receipt. He apologetically said after that he didnt know.The business I went to and work for seems to have a stigma attached to them as a nuisance, but you should know that people who work for them are tax paying, hard working people who could potentially help bring more business, as they also come in contact with other business owners and professionals in the community.I had considered purchasing landscape lighting from your store, but given this experience, I will NEVER shop there again and will post this review (copied and pasted) on Google, Yelp, and other business reviewing sites to get the word out about my poor customer experience.

Stopped in for a few items for an installation project for a client. They had everything I needed, were very friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed a very quick checkout. They even had handmade barbecue sandwiches for free (very delicious by the way) on the way out the door. A ++ all the way around... a great shopping experience!

This place has a little of everything and the price is not to bad. Their staff has been very helpful every time Ive paid a visit. Well stocked with almost any home projects you would want to tackle and some you have to. Aisle are a little tighter but its because they have so much in the store.

This is one of the best Ace Hardwares in Atlanta. I went in looking for some painting supplies, the only ones to carry some stuff it in Atlanta. Left Bates with more things than I anticipated. Lots of cool stuff you wont find at Home Depot or Lowes.

Simply put....if youre a person of color, dont go in there. And if youre a person of color, youll understand without me having to say why. I had to give them 1 star just to post the review but I wouldnt even give them that.

Not much room to park full size trucks but for the most part my visit here was very enjoyable the staff is very friendly and very helpful. With smiles on there faces and willing to help you find what you need to handle the task at hand so for this im very pleased and will defiantly recommend to others. And looking forward to my next project. Good job.

Ive been to this store several times, and I am always impressed by the quality of their staff and vast selection. Im always greeted as soon as I walk through the door by an associate willing to help me, and I rarely have left without the supplies I needed. I highly recommend this location.

I guess Lorenzo is not the only one whos had a racist experience. I came in yesterday for a return. I knew where I needed to be but out of respect, I stopped at the greeter, said hello and told him why I was there. He rudely directed me towards the cashiers area. I spoke to him so I guess I was the greeter in that moment. The Caucasian man before me and all other Caucasian individuals that followed were greeted with a loud Hello, welcome to Ace Hardware! How may I direct you? In 2017, Im guessing some people still dont respect African Americans. When I initially came in to purchase on Friday, the female greeter was very friendly and made sure someone met me in the back. My cashier that day was also very friendly to my daughter and I. I will return if I need something however, if that same guy is the greeter, I wont waste my time stopping to teach him how he should greet all customers regardless of color.

Very clean and organized store with extremely helpful, friendly and professional staff.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Came in to get a cord to replace the one on my dryer, since it was cheaper than buying another dryer or replacing the outlet of the house I recently moved in. The gentleman was kind enough to not only go and get the right cord for me, but when I told him Id never done anything like this before, he then proceeded to draw me a diagram and explain patiently and thoroughly exactly what I should do and how to get it done. Talk about exceptional service!👏👏👏 I will definitely be making this my go-to source for any and all of my home/houseware needs!

Ive gone to this Ace Hardware a couple of times in the last month. Each time has been for work. Had keys made and needed special screws to re-hang our Ring doorbell. They are always very helpful and have someone assisting you within a few minutes after you enter the store.

Ace Hardware is hands down my favorite hardware chain. The staff is incredibly helpful. I believe they must have a team rule where you always ask the customer if you can help them whenever they pass by. The store has a lot of different products (a lot of which I wouldnt expect to find in a hardware store), and even when I think I can find things on my own, the staff has always known where to find it faster than me.I was recently able to get a large amount of shopping done all at this one store, which made me feel so accomplished when really the accomplishment was Aces. I was able to get Christmas shopping done for some construction tools and headlamps, I got a replacement light bulb, found screws for a home repair, and though I didnt have space in my car, I did see they had the exact fencing I needed for a fence repair. They also have many fun/cute/practical gifts, bird feed and feeders, pet food and toys (my dog loves the Buddy Biscuits Ace sells), plant pots, kitchen tools, and lots of other regular hardware supplies. Ive also gone to Ace for small plants (I found small ferns for a terrarium), and its good to note they have a larger selection in the warmer months.I had one especially good encounter at my last visit - I was looking at the headlamps and a staff member helped me by unlocking the latch for me (this headlamp was a bit expensive, so it was latched to the rack to prevent theft). Without missing a beat, he also asked me if I needed the batteries for the headlamp. I never would have thought to get the batteries, and Im so glad he asked! He took me right over to the battery rack and knew exactly what I needed and handed it to me. How perfect!I shop small when I can, and I love shopping at Ace Hardware. No matter which location I visit (and Ive visited 3 now), its always a pleasant experience, and I almost always see something new and delightful at the store that I wasnt expecting.

Big fan of Bates Ace Hardware. Not only do they have a nice manageable selection of plants, veggies and garden supplies, but they still handle paint, keys and everything else, but quick in and out. Bonus, they have a huge selection of fun gifts, awesome cocktail napkins and funny cards!!

I made a purchase this morning. The staff were helpful, however when I drove out, I noticed that there was a delivery in progress, so I slowed down. The Ace hardware person directing the delivery very angrily waved me to continue, and stared me down when I passed and continued to stare at me even when I exited the parking lot. I will always remember this angry man when I shop at this Ace if I go back.

Wonderful customer service. The guys in the lawn care area went above and beyond with telling me what I needed and didnt need for my lawn (and saved my lawn...they were very very knowledgeable). 👍

They have a whole bunch of stuff, unfortunately they did not have what we needed for the job we were on at the time. We needed some tapcon screws to anchor into cement but they did not have much choice nor many of any of the ones they had.It looks like they have a lot of odds and ends stuff and they have a lot of things in the lawn and landscape area.

Horrible service!!!! My husband and I will never give our money to this location again. I rented the machine at 5:25pm on Sunday and my husband tried to return it at 2:15pm the next day. We got accused of taking it out on the Thursday prior! They wanted to charge us since then! that is over 5 days!!! I had to call the manager and explain. he said he would take care of it, James was his name. The women who rung me up even called me to tell me she was in the wrong, and said she would apologize to my husband and she never did. James was rude and upset that he couldnt charge us! Seriously not our problem! No one ever acknowledged my husband. Completely accused us of having it longer and was going to charge us, just so rude!

Good luck trying to get in this place, they have one entrance blocked. Took 30 minutes and once your inside, well it feels like a flea market. And dont even try to pick up equipment around back. Old school here.

The staff at Ace Hardware is always very helpful and friendly. This seems consistent no matter which Ace you go to. However, I have had a bad experience with the steel screws they carry. I broke the heads off four steel screws out of the 16 that I used on a recent wood working project. I was only using a handheld screw driver too. Not a power drill. This seems rediculous to me. I am not sure if the hardware is any better at other stores, but I will be going to The Home Depot for future hardware purchases.

I own a home not too far from here and its always easy in and easy out. Id rather go here, pay a little extra, then to have to deal with the craziness at Home Depot if I can help it. The sales reps are pretty knowledgeable too!

Just like any other ace except you have 50 people asking you if you need help. I can appreciate someone asking if i need help but seriously this was excessive. The store seemed a bit cluttered but i guess that makes for a bigger selection. I would go back.

I had a very bad experience when i came to this location today, i had a empty backpack i brought with me to carry back the purchased items and the lady at the door seemed more concerned with that than she was helping me, then she attempted to assign an older white guy (late 60s) to assist me but he didnt want to (for obvious reasons) but he said he was doing something else and when i told the lady was looking for potting soil they both looked at each other and started smirking in a disrespectful manner, so i declined the help and found what i was looking for on my own and they lady still sent help this guy offers help and i decline with a side note that i have already found what i was looking for then he mumbles youll find what youre looking for if you read the back of the bag then takes it from my hand and begins to read out loud and slowly as if i were illiterate, at this point im fed up so aggressively stated that i could read and that i had found what i needed and stormed to checkout.....i dont come here much but when i do i spend MY money, and that should be enough for you to show some respect, especially if youre supposed to be representing someone elses company
