I went into Blackjack Gunsmithing today. If I could give this place a higher rating, I definitely would! This was a great and warm experience! I went in with hopes of selling some of my guns for an emergency. I was kindly welcomed by friendly staff at the door and was invited into the owners office so he could take a look at my guns. The owner was beyond friendly and very fair when he assessed my guns. He walked me through the pricing of my guns and I was beyond happy because of the transparency. He was very fair and my experience could not have been better! As a huge gun advocate and new Austin citizen, I along with my friends will definitely be coming back here for future purchases!

I’ve done my share of business dealings with firearms dealers and gunsmiths, all across Texas. Most are cigar smoke filled holes in the wall with guys lounging around, telling you that you don’t know anything and they have what you need. I’ve had my share of “gunsmiths” that costs me more to repair their damage in the long run than the work itself.Fortunately, I found Blackjack Gunsmithing and none of the above are true. From the emails inquiring about a pin and weld service to the before and after service...this place is a rare find. A Google search found them, when I needed some work done and they replied to my email within 30 minutes. Everything was yes sir, no sir and that translated into the in-person interaction in the store. The store itself is quaint, but very clean and run very professionally.I was quoted two days for the work I requested and in less than 48 hours I received a text to let everyone know the items were ready for pickup. Two muzzle devices pinned and welded and even painted to match the devices themselves. I did note that one of the shims and barrel took a slight knick, possibly from a grinder during the prep work on the weld, but overall I was still pleased.It’s hard to find a good gunsmith or let alone a gun shop, especially in the Austin area. So I think I’ll keep coming back to this location for future needs. Thanks guys!

This place is awesome. They are the real deal. I was looking for a high quality gunsmith and found them. Alot of places are gun stores that do some smithing. Black Jacks is a gunsmith that sells some guns. I brought on do.e old family guns some were almost 100 years old. They had no issues working on them. I showed some smiths before them and since it wasnt an ar15 style they one didnt know what to do and didnt care. Black Jacks made them look like they were brand new. They were all very friendly and listened to what I wanted.i like how they had a list of prices so I wasnt just getting quoted based on what they felt like.they explained if there was any type of added cost they would let me know before and work with meThe restorations came out to be less than what I thought and the results were better than I could expect. If you dont know anything about firearms this place might suit you; however, if you know even the slightest thing about firearms your better off trying to do it your self or going to another gunsmith! Literally it will cost the same or less depending on what tools you have available but it will be done in the same night as apposed to 3-4 months with blackjack. These guys are like you but with a drill press, They dont know much about firearms so the owner poorly runs a crew of absolute novices. They damaged my $400 fluted dissipator barrel because they never saw one before and couldnt figure out how to re assemble it. They ended up drilling holes in my $400 FLUTED barrel to move the Fake front sight post to the rear like a standard carbine rifle configuration with the 6 hand guard even though I Put in a work order to simply PAINT THE BARREL BLACK AND REASSEMBLE AS WAS. But they have no clue what they are doing and just threw it together and drilled holes for no reason. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND BUY A DRILL PRESS AND WATCH YOU TUBE AND YOU TOO CAN OWN A SURPRISINGLY PROFITABLE BUSINESS WITHOUT ACTUALLY KNOWING ANYTHING! welcome to the the future, idiots run everything because their parents have money....

I dont even know where to start. My family has had a rough year, losing both the patriarch and matriarch on my dads side within 8 months. After my grandfathers passing, my grandmother found _his_ grandfathers 1905 bolt-action .410 shotgun in a shed. This thing had been sitting on the ground for at least 20 years - but never said anything about it.When she passed in September, it was rediscovered and broke my dads heart to see how bad in shape it was. I begged him to let me take it somewhere to get it fixed up and as a keepsake. I spent a solid MONTH calling around asking for the best of the best: only one name came up: Blackjack.The folks here took excellent care understanding the sensitivity of the ask, and spent a solid 8 weeks working with me, every step of the way to ensure I knew what was being done, problems finding parts for a 115 year old weapon, and getting it into a point where it could chamber and safely fire a round. Last week, I get the call to come get it.I couldnt hold back the tears when I saw it. The weapon looks just as good as it did the first time I saw it when I was about 4 years old. She fires smoothly, looks like a million dollars, and in the short walk from my truck to the gun range to put some rounds through it, it caught the attention of EVERY single person who saw it. One guy offered me $1500 cash on the spot, knowing full well that I had an original 1905 J Stevens .410 bolt action in hand and in pristine condition.This gal is going into a shadowbox and will be presented to my dad as his Christmas present. I know its going to bring tears to his eyes, because it means far more to him than it does to me. He went hunting with his great grandfather and this was the first rifle he ever fired. Thank you Blackjack for whats bound to be the best Christmas he could have never expected.

I took a rifle in to have a scope mounted and bore sighted here about a year ago (8-5-19). I specifically asked if they were familiar with the SPHUR rings I had and if they would use the torque specs and installation tool/instructions provided. Upon return, I noticed that 4 of the 12 bolts were not installed, which they ran back and screwed in while I was waiting with no issue. Now I am learning more about this firearm and adjustments I can make, I am noticing many of the Torx screw heads on the SPUR Scopemount are stripped out where they clearly used the wrong size or possibly a hex bit to tighten them. The damage was obviously caused by more force than the prescribed 15-25in.-lbs for the rings or even the 45 in.-lbs for the clamping screws. If you have any quality items or you care about your equipment at all, DO NOT take them here. Now that I am learning more about this gun and looking into making my own adjustments I am just now noticing things like this. So I will take some blame for not noticing when I picked up the firearm adjusting to 2 stars because they may have had a chance to make this right if I had confronted them at the time of pick up)

Just left Blackjack Gunsmithing, picked up my rifle that they did an amazing job on. Cant express how amazing it turned out. They ceracoated coated all the metal and barrel, did a trigger job, threaded my barrel for my suppressor, and glass bedded my barrel. Lots of precision work, theyre amazingly talented. Great customer service and pricing on top of all that.

The one thing I didnt like about my CZ Tactical Sport Orange was that the frame of the gun and the magwell were not blended. This meant that there was a ledge inside the magwell that magazines would get caught on.Blackjack Gunsmithing was able to perfectly blend the frame of my gun to the magwell with just a 1 week turnaround time.I couldnt have asked for better results. !!SCAM!!BAIT AND SWITCH!!RIP OFF!!This is my first review I’ve ever written. But first, a little background on the situation. So I purchased my Marlin 336XLR lever action last month. Was looking to cut, thread, and crown the barrel. Had previously set up to do this where I purchased the riffle. At McBrides in Austin, Texas. MCBrides cost $180 to cut, thread, and crown the barrel. I called around and this is pretty standard for the area. So I set up time to have the work done. Unfortunately their gun smith was in an accident and unable to complete work for the store for the forceable future. So I called around again and got prices over the phone. Blackjack confirmed the price was $200. I said okay a little high but what’s $20 difference. I set a time and showed up to the store which is 35 min away. First reverifying on the phone the cost and any prep work that needed to be done to the riffle. Blackjack said $200 and bring riffle as is. So I showed up 35 min later. Started the paperwork. AGAIN CONFIRMED $200. After paperwork finished the master gunsmith came out and said he is charging me $350 for the work. Gave me some story how special his work is for a simple cut thread and crown work. I told him that’s not what we agreed on. He said that’s standard in the area. I called McBrides back who sold me the riffle and they laughed. They as well could not believe what blackjack is charging. I relayed this info to blackjack. The conversation with blackjack staff turned very rude. I gathered my firearm and they even tried offering a discount of $50 to keep me from writing this review and leaving the store. I have since set a time to take my firearm somewhere else. Which is much more on point to what should be charged for a cut, thread, and crown. All I can say is stay away from Blackjack gunsmiths. Do your homework and get quotes from other gun smiths. You will see for yourself. Blackjack gunsmith is ripping customers off. Praying on telling you a cost on the phone, getting you to drive to the store and telling you a much higher cost banking on you agreeing since you are already there. Don’t waste your time.I hope this review helps in your decision in doing business with them. I can’t repeat it enough. Call around and get quotes. You will see most work is all around the same cost. There is no reason for blackjack gunsmith to charge double the cost.!!!SECOND UPDATE!!!- IN RESPONSE TO OWNER!You can make false statements in any defense you would like. You can try and disprove this review to future potential customers all you want. My review stands for your bait and switch tactics. I hope people who read this see the other comments about your unjustified costs. Mine is not the only one. In the future, post your costs online and or train your staff to correctly identify riffles and give correct costs. Don’t change price after the paperwork and drop off is completed. Please also understand that, the $50 dollar discount you offered for “my time” and not for a negative review. I wouldn’t accept that because who would continue to do business with a place that bait and switches them. I was very clear in the beginning and even asked upfront what I needed to do for the riffle to be prepped before hand. Hence arriving and completing the paperwork with your staff, all for which was discussed over the phone. I did everything I was directed to do by your staff. Confirmed not only once but twice cost and the type of riffle I was bringing in. In the future be very clear upfront on costs.

During first visit to Blackjack, I talked to Levi about a trigger job. Levi informed me about the cost and timeframe of the change as well as the benefits of the trigger job. More than that, Levi showed me the difference between what was my pistol’s old trigger and a pistol with the trigger job. Experiencing the lighter and smoother pull and quicker break convinced me without a second thought to get the job done. Lastly, Levi had my pistol returned back to me within days. Levi is a quick and honest worker, go to him for projects as well as an honest opinion from someone experienced.

This is my first online review, ever. Ive been to Blackjack three times and each time have had an exemplary experience. The pricing is borderline ridiculous (low), the customer service is patient, educational and genuine, and they always seem to have exactly what I need. I had a shotgun repaired there once, which they estimated would take three weeks. If I remember correctly, it took about three days, and was a very fair price. I purchased my second firearm from them yesterday and it was the fastest processing and best customer service Ive ever experienced in a gun store. These folks deserve all the business they can handle.

I had financial issues and had to sell a high end revolver that I simply did not use anymore in a hurry, the owner of this shop was fair and explained the option of doing a consignment, but gave me a decent amount for the gun with the ammo and accessories on the spot. I ordered a part online and ended up realizing I didnt have the tools I needed so I took it over to these guys. They said it could take a week, but they ended up feeling bad for me and got it done the same day and even waited a little past closing for me to get there. Great experience, and I will be thinking of them first the next time I need something done.

Brought an upper that I had 2 stripped screws in to be removed. They stopped what they were doing and immediately assisted me and I was out in 5 mins. Very polite and professional.With how few gunsmiths there are in the Austin area I would highly recommend you dont waste your time going anywhere except Blackjack Gunsmithing.

I’m very impressed with the work they did on my shotgun barrel, i had a old shotgun and didn’t want the long barrel on it anymore, they cut it to 18 inches and made it look professional done, they also have a small selection of used firearms and some ww2 era rifles, if i ever need work on my guns this will be my place to go, as I live 2 minutes away which is a plus!

I was at AJs yesterday to get my sights put on my pistol. I got there early and was out the door in just minutes. I could spend all day there, but I had some shooting and camping planned for the weekend already. Top notch gunsmith. I never leave there less than satisfied. Fair price and great work. Hes got my business as long as he is around. He stands behind his work. I dont know what else to say about the guy, you ask him to do something and he does it. He gets it done and done correctly.

Super friendly staff - I forget the womans name that I worked with today but she was awesome, super friendly and very knowledgeable. Same for the gunsmith AJ. And they have GREAT prices on firearms - I walked out with a Win 1300 with Hogue furniture for a fantastic price. And as others have mentioned, the shop is small but they have a good inventory and great displays.

Very good experience with this guy. First he was the only gunsmith in all of Austin even willing to work on my MAC. Then he had it ready in just one business day and far under what I expected to spend. No upselling, no extra accessories/perks he was trying to push, no BS. Nice and eager to help- I have dealt with several gunsmiths in the Austin area and dealing with Blackjack was the least painful by far. A little bit of a drive from the center of Austin but definitely worth it. Looks like Ive found a new gunsmith.

Great work. I found Blackjack through the Google Reviews and was not disappointed. I brought a 1911 with a blued slide in for corrosion on the grip screws and rust on the slide as that was beyond my own skill level. He got the corrosion off the screws perfectly and removed all the rust from the slide. Unfortunately the rust left scars in the bluing, so i will be back another day to get my slide re blued. Would recommend highly!

After all of the stories and I reviews Ive heard about other gunsmiths in town, I was hoping to have a good experience here trying a new place.Well, Blackjack Gunsmithing did not disappoint. In fact, they exceeded expectations with their friendly and honest service and very quick turnaround. Will definitely be using them again!

Responsive and professional service

Just got back from Blackjack Gunsmithing. Needed a muzzle brake changed out and a sight changed out on a Swiss rifle. I am very picky about who I let work on my tools. I dont want just some half baked rookie or wannabe working on them. Well I was pleasantly surprised when I read the reviews on AJs place. Not one person was dissatisfied with his services and neither was I. In one day out the next. He is very knowledgeable about all the weapons I asked him about. This made me feel much more comfortable with leaving my weapon with him. His place might not look so fancy, but let me tell you, dont judge a book by its cover. The man knows his stuff and as long as he is around, Ill take all of my tools to him for repairs or servicing.

All I can say is there is a reason that there are 21 five star reviews. AJ is great and the work that he does is quality. He has serviced several of my guns and will be getting any future gunsmith business I require.

What a wonderful experience at Black Jack! AJ is probably the most knowledgeable guy I have come across in regards to all things related to guns, hunting, ammo. He customized my AR, did a great trigger job on my Glocks, and taught me a lot. He is like Wikipedia for guns.At the range, he is a great shooter. He corrected my stance. Thank you AJ. I will come back to BJ for my coming .308 project!

AJ is very nice and works very hard. He is quick, responsive, and his prices are fair. Ive taken several guns here for work and have never been disappointed!

Fantastic work, have so far had 3 rifle barrels threaded here, I am more impressed with each one, the first one had a 24 hour turn around!!! 2 weeks on the second and 5 days on the third. Will keep going back until I run out of barrels to thread.

Went in thinking I would need to pay $160 to shorten my stock. AJ took the time, even on his lunch hour, to help me adjust my cheekrest so I could actually see through my scope. The man defines customer service. I will never go to another gunsmith while Blackjack Gunsmithing is in business!

AJ can do whatever you need. He ordered and installed a replacement bolt face for my rifle after mine suffered over-pressure from some jokers hand load. He did the head-spacing and even installed a single shot sled that I ordered elsewhere. The sled wasnt even for my stock/magazine type but I planned to figure out a way to make it work anyway. Never had to mess with it as AJ took care of it with the rest of the work. Excellent work and a fair price for it.

Blackjack and AJ were highly recommended by a longtime friend who had a great experience here. Though across town for me, I am happy to make the drive for the exceptional service-with-a-smile attitude the staff presents and for the value of work they perform for the price. I’m happy to recommend them and consider them my gunsmith for any work I need on my pistols, ARs, shotguns, and rifles. And if I were buying a gun, I’d start here too.
