Best wine store in Austin, hands down. John and Lucinda have owned this place for decades and are knowledgeable and attentive to their customers. Brian Smith has also been there for a long time and knows his stuff. If you are an old world wine fan, their selection is amazing, and good prices too.

Knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to get exactly what you want. On the off chance they dont have it, theyll try to order it and if that doesnt work, they know the next best replacement. Looking forward to being able to browse their shop in person!

Austin Wine Merchant is my favorite place to buy liquor in Austin. They have superb customer service and if they dont carry what you want they will try to get it for you. It is always enjoyable to go there and they have lots of things that you cant find anywhere else. They have a parking lot which is a huge plus. I love Austin Wine Merchant.

An excellent selection, tightly packed in cellar-like rows of old fashioned wine bins. Very knowledgable staff who regularly taste the wines on offer. It never fees like theyre pushing a particular producer or case, theyre just happy to discuss your likes/dislikes and make suggestions on what to try. Excellent selection of spirits too.

This wine shop offers knowledgeable workers, extensive wine collections, and incredible facilities. I am deeply pleased that the people working here have managed to provide me with all the things I need, particularly for certain wines. Holy moly! This place is so excellent and Brian really knows his old world wines. We could end up here every weekend if we lived in Austin. Today we snagged a Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc and Im very happy about it 😍

Brian was very patient and knowledgeable about his recommendations to me. I appreciate the help that was afforded to me, especially since I am outside of the U.S and this time of year is so crazy.

The staff is very helpful and there are some very good wines at good prices. Its not completely easy to browse on your own since its a tight and at times busy space. I will certainly go back, though.

Solid choice in beverages. Love the unique selection of whiskeys and scotches. Dont ask for help though. They never know what theyre recommending. Theyre trying to sell a bottle. Its happened more than once. While I appreciate the offer, Id rather not be sold to.

Absolutely fantastic collection of spirits, cocktail fixings, and of course wine! Lairds Straight Apple Brandy? Yes. Rare Japanese gin? Yes. Sought after whiskies? Yes. Hard to find vermouths? Absolutely. I am more into spirits than wines, so my shopping experience is slanted in that direction, but every experience Ive had here has been great, and they always have what Im looking for. They are the sort of shop where - if they are carrying it, its because its a great product. Their website is extremely helpful in determining whether they have something ahead of time as well as for looking at reviews of different categories of things before you go and pick it up in-store. Prices are also fair and even great!

Told upon arrival as standing at door all orders must be phoned in cant take order in person. Not interested in staying in business or customers. Hiding poor customer service behind covid paranoia.

The Austin Wine Merchant is my go-to place for wine and has a good selection of spirits as well. I typically let them select wines for me based on past likes and dislikes and have never been disappointed. Give them a heads up on price and types of wine and pick up a couple of bottles or a couple of cases on your way home. They will carry the boxes out and keep a database of purchases so reordering is easy.I almost forgot to mention that they have parking downtown. It could not be easier to pick up wine or spirits on the way home from downtown.

Great selection of wines! Friendly staff who are also very knowledgeable about the inventory. There are wine tastings virtually every weekend so many opportunities to sample new flavors.

The staff is very educated about their wines, friendly, and helpful. I appreciated that I came in with a budget, and they only recommended wines that were below that budget. No up selling here which I greatly appreciated. They also have a beautiful selection of wine glasses and decanters.

Let’s say you’re entertaining some folks who love wine. Let’s also say you are not a wine expert. These folks will take care of you. In my role as Director of Food and Beverage at Austin’s historic Paramount Theatre, I rely on the folks at AWM to supply dressing room refreshments for all of the artists who perform at our venue. True, knowledgeable wine merchants.The owner selects the wines himself, thus all the wines are at least pretty great - whatever the price.In fact, the prices are far better than other fine wine purveyors, often by at least 5$ or more.

This place is such a treat! I would definitely say if youve never been make sure you have time to spend there when you do go because there are so many amazing wines and such to choose from! The staff are so knowledged it feels like you have your own concierge to help you find exactly what you are looking for if it more!

After long being on the list of places to visit when in Austin, I finally had an opportunity to shop at the Austin Wine Merchant, and what a special treat it was! The store is wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling packed with an incredible array of selections, blending new and old world producers. During my visit, I stuck mostly to France (with a smidgen of Italy), and came away with a mixed case of some very hard-to-find Burgundies. Top honors to the staff as well -- during my visit I had not less than five different people kindly ask if they could help me in any way. I also watched them as they helped other customers in a very down-to-earth manner (wine shops can attract a high-brow attitude, but these folks are super-nice and friendly).This shop is worth the drive. No doubt about it.

I just cant help myself. I love looking for interesting local products while traveling. I took home some Austin made bitters and shrubs. I was tempted by Spanish vermouth that was imported to San Antonio. I saw Sutton Cellars vermouth and Vin de Noix (which is sold out most places here in its local San Francisco) on the shelf. I bet there were some whiskies I would have wished I had room to pack home with me. A nice solid store.

This is my favorite liquor store in the city. Its certainly not the biggest, so if you are looking for Jack Daniels by the gallon, go to Specs. However, they stock a large variety of cocktail bitters and vermouths, and they sell harder to find amaros and liqueurs. They also have some great deals from time to time on clearance stuff. Last time I was in, I picked up Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur for about $5 off.

Friendly, knowledgable staff help you work your way through a terrific selection of things that are difficult to find. The prices are lower than youd expect for that description. Probably the best selection of Amari in Austin.

This is simply one of the finest wine shops I have been in. And the more time I soend there the more amazed I am. They have really hard to get wines from wineries that are allocation only - like Reynvaan and Arnot-Roberts, and quality bottles from both well known and more obscure wine regions, along with main stream wines you eould expect. And the staff has outstanding knowkedge of their stock and are truly helpful in understanding whst they have. Only negative would ve that the store is packed with wine. Dont be afraid to ask for help finding what you are looking for. Highly recommended!
