A cozy, quaint place. Been coming here for years. I have to say James Street is the spot though. My brother and I got breakfast on Railroad on a Friday morning. He ordered Over Easy Eggs and one egg was Over Hard and the other was Over Medium lol. He bit the bullet, hes humble. I would have said something. Why is it that service just isnt what it used to be. I remember when I was a kid still, if I were to send out those eggs, the manager would have belittled me and expressed their sheer frustration lol. I dont get it. Railroad location: step up your egg game.

I wanted to give this a better review, because I like the concept and their interesting menu. But, overall the food was average, not great. And the service is pretty slow (bordering on very slow). Staff was not rude, but not especially friendly/engaging either. I had the Popeye Eggenue on rosemary English muffin. It was good, but the mustard overwhelmed most of the other tastes. Perhaps this was why the rosemary muffin seemed surprisingly dull. But I think it was also that I would expect an English muffin to have more texture than this one--it was really more of just a bun. A scone I had for dessert was similarly disappointing--not bad, but just kinda boring.

Staff isnt friendly any time we go in. Called in a order for pickup and prepaid on the phone, they wouldnt let me pick up the food when I got there if I didnt wait in the 25 min line. Whats the point of preordering and prepaying if I cant just pick up my food like at their other locations? Im glad I could watch my food on the counter getting cold during my wait. The James st location is SO much better (food and customer service). Go to James st instead.Update- got my food. My food wasnt cooked all the way and they said that it was because it sat under the heat lamp for so long. Asked them about refunds or remakes and they hung the phone up.

Do yourself a favor and ask very nicely for a fresh egg if you order an eggenue. otherwise, you get served a warmed up, precooked fried egg. i do not understand why they do this. the best part of an egg sandwich is the runny yolk mixing with the other parts of the sandwich. homeboy running the line has seemed to have been training a new person every single time im in there so theres also that.pay your employees better, maybe see what happens?peeps working the counter are always friendly.no go on that rosemary loaf. not what it used to be.

The quality of the food was decent, but not quite good enough to warrant the price tag. The 30+ minute wait for a single sandwich and tiny bag of chips wasnt exactly the best experience in the world either. I think Avenue makes amazing bread, but I dont think this restaurant provided enough value to justify going unless theres something there youre really craving

Avenue Bread is one of the most delicious and reasonably priced restaurants in Bellingham. They are first and foremost a bakery, so of course they have incredible bread and baked goods that they bake in a house. They then take that bread and make delicious sandwiches made with fresh local ingredients. Large portion sizes and friendly service make this a great restaurant. I highly recommend that you add this to your lunch rotation!

My girlfriend and I love avenue bread, but we both recently tried the new sandwich called Carolina Veggie and both of us got extremely sick from food poisoning. Was looking for a good breakfast in Bellingham and walked by this place, looked like a regular little cafe at first but it was once I started looking into the menu that I realized we had stumbled upon treasure. My friend had a breakfast sandwich and it came up very quick, he was raving about how good it was and immediately ordered another. When my scramble came to the table I was blown away as I had no idea what to expect. The food looked beautiful and tasted even better. It filled me right up and the side of bread was good enough to be desert. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a chill and casual (and delicious) breakfast spot in Bellingham!!!

I stopped in today after doing some shopping at Trader Joes. I ordered a The Big Cheese with a pickle spear to go. I got home unwrapped it and the bread didnt look right, took a bite, it was freaking stale. And not only that the pesto spread was so thinly spread as to be almost non existent; what a rip-off. As far as Im concerned they owe me a fresh sandwich with enough pesto spread to taste and a pickle spear.Ferndale

The girl with short green hair at the counter was pretty rude and it’s not like I didn’t tip her and was rude or something, I always tip and try to be extra considerate because they have tough jobs but. She didn’t say a word to me during our interactions, not even one ‘you’re welcome’ or something in response to my multiple thank yous. I don’t know, i was one of the only people in there so it’s not like she was busy. Maybe she was having a bad day buttttttttt it went beyond not being friendly to openly hostile silence, she went out of her way not to respond to me. It reminded of my moody teenagers, like I was her mom and just took her cell phone away and she was giving me the silent treatment or something but I didn’t and I’m not. I didn’t do anything but tip her and thank her a bunch and try to be friendly.Probably won’t be coming here again as the interaction put a damper on the otherwise good food

My wife and I were going to meet a few friends for lunch at Avenue Bread. When we got there, we ordered sandwiches and then waited 15 minutes. We asked if they would be ready soon, and were told theyd be right out. 10 more minutes pass. Were ready to go before weve even gotten our food, so I asked to just receive a refund because its taken almost half an hour for them to make a sandwich. The young woman behind the counter assured me that it was coming right out now, and asked me if Id like it to go instead. Just wanting to get out of there, I agreed and finally got our sandwiches and a complimentary cookie that was stale and hard as a rock. As I took my food and turned around, the young woman thought it would be appropriate to roll her eyes at me. Fortunately, the sandwiches tasted great once we got to eat them, but they were not worth the 25 minute wait and rude staff we encountered. We definitely wont be returning there any time soon.
