Encountered discrimination from a disrespectful employee when it came to wearing a mask. Hypocrisy is thick when they are concerned with masks, yet maintain 2 feet of separation while escorting me out. They lost 4 customers for life. I guess Amazon will have to get my business. Too bad because I like to support local businesses. Was hoping to shop here for years to come with outfitting my kids each and every time they grow out of their gear and need new digs. I will spend my money only at establishments that will not discriminate. Good luck.
As some other reviewers have commented, some of their prices are ridiculously high for consignment goods. That said, if you play along with their system of pricing down goods that havent sold within a few months, every so often you can get lucky- find something that is still on the shelf thats been reduced to an actually reasonable price. The dude handling the consignment desk that took my gear was super knowledgeable and friendly. His customer service alone knocks this up from a three to a four. The rest of the staffs snarky, Im too cool attitude that refutes them the capability of acknowledging a customer that smiles and says hi to them... drops this back down to a three. Seriously lol. You work at Gear Fix. Humble yourself, equal.Side note. I think its cool they try and reduce carbon footprint of unnecessarily printed receipts. That doesnt mean you should not offer customers a receipt with every single transaction. Regardless of what form. 😉
Really neat spot for secondhand gear, and I got a new pair of branded sports socks that I really enjoy, and the staff was really nice! Wish I lived closer.
Had some issues with my bike, walked in to gear fix for the first time, heard about them on Facebook. Went in and talked to Bob, was great to work with,, made things happen and got me rolling smoothly again! Will definitely be back, and would recommend 100%!! Thanks Bob! Cant wait to get back on the trails!
Motivated me to fix my own stuff 😄 and guess what, you can too!
The prices here are out of control high. The percent paid out to the consigner is 10% lower on average than any other place I have sold my outdoor gear. I miss the gear peddler badly.I recently tried to consign a vintage 12 speed town commuter. Tires were fine, brakes fine with new cables and handle bars. Easily sold as is. I was told they would replace the rubber, and brakes, and if they sold it for 160$!!! (Insanely high price for that bike) my payout after parts and labor would be 3$. That is 3, tres, III. I sold it for a fair price of 80$ on market place. This place is a scam.
Went here to get a quote for a repair to a jacket and the person looking at my raincoat did more damage pulling at the issue. Will never consider taking anything to this shop.
I brought ski pants here for repair on the advice of a friend. I was told it would take about 3 weeks since things were slow due to COVID and lack of sewers. After 3.5 weeks, I called to check on the status and was told that the pants should be ready by the end of that week or sometime the next week. At the 6 week point, I again called for status and was told by the person answering the phone that she had no idea and that I would have to wait a few more days to get an estimate of when they would be ready. At that point, I picked the pants up, took them to another shop in town that specializes in outdoor gear. That shop told me a week and a half and met that estimate - and with a lower price.I realize unexpected things happen and original time estimates cant be met, but at some point the job needs to be done. I do hear that this shop does great work, but I guess I will never find out first hand.
This is a great place if youre looking for used gear. The staff is super friendly and drop with what they are doing to help you. They hooked me up with a pair of skate skis, boots, and poles for a fair price. Highly recommend this place!
Great service!! So helpful with questions and great prices
Good place for reasonably price used gear but you need to look over every inch of what you’re looking at buying, because they don’t before putting it on the shelves. I have a puffy from them that had a bunch of stitches coming out and a friend bought a thermos that still had coffee in it from the previous owner. Also, the store name does not match the credit card merchant name. It shows as “Play it Again” or something like that. That was a fun day trying to figure out how some store I’d never been to got my card number.
Mailed a vintage LL Bean fanny pack to the Sewing Shop at Gear Fix from Santa Fe, NM after twice failing to find a repair shop locally to replace the main zipper without the zipper teeth failing to close. The nice staff at the store and shop called me and we went over my concerns, as the pack also needed a buckle replacement too.Beautiful job, sturdy zipper and buckle now in place for many more years of use.Reasonable price even with mailing and sewists craft. Less than cost for new, large packs.New fanny packs are either too small or too big. My vintage one is in-between and perfect for all kinds of use.Highly recommend this wonderful store and shop for their courtesy and top notch repair.Thank you!
Door, phone, and internet says they are open. But they are closed. Either update your info or open when you say you’re open.
Needed climbing shoes resole from them. Some what longer waiting due to COVID. Good work done on the resoling job. Cleaned my shoes as well.
Stumbled on this place by accident... wow! Excellent gear trader! Ill be stopping by every time I go through Bend from now on!
I love the gear fix! They always have what a need and more. I stop in about once a month to scan the mountain bike section and constantly do I leave with something Ive dreamed of owning. I tell my friends you can build a whole bike in a weekend with whats in this store.
I have taken several items in for sewing/zipper or some kind of repair and have been very happy with the results each time. The price is reasonable and affordable.
Great place, great people, great selection. Go support them, go use stuff again.
On the whole I really appreciate the Gear fix and the staff. The new products are excellent and have good price points. It seems like the consignment processes is always ambiguous. I brought in two pairs of hiking shoes today that were purchased last year for our kids. One pair was never used since we purchased them from the Gear Fix. The other pair did a hike to Broken Top and that was it. Yet, I was told today that they were too worn to be sold. Huh? If they were too worn why did you sell them to me last year? Whatevs. Still a great place for gear and bargains. Just know ahead of time that the consignment system is arbitrary.
I had Gear Fix resole my climbing shoes. They quoted me 8 weeks turnaround. It actually took them 4 months! When I finally got my shoes back the repair looked good. However, the seam on one of the half sole repairs is already coming apart after one climbing session. Horrible service and bad product!
Hi.. Just seeing this. I have never been in your shop nor do I rate businesses. I might have looked your services up but did not rate your company.Owning F/B and having a coffee line personal is more important than social.R
Came into this shop for the first time today (2/19) and thought they had a great selection of decently priced used gear. The only problem was the blonde girl at the register was very unfriendly to me as i I was spending over $50 there. Treated me as if i was bothering her with my purchase, as well as a lack of basic human interaction. Didnt bother to ask me how I was or to tell me to have a good day or anything. I was nicer than her, as the customer! Kind of disappointing and definitely made me feel not very welcome.
Friendly staff and they always something for me to buy - which is good and bad 😅
Some used some new. Whatever you want for the outdoors they should have it.
Great prices and helpful staff. Look here first!
Josh gave great customer service. Good variety!
As a true gearhead, Im a regular shopper at GearFix. I find the staff to be friendly and courteous, the pricing to be fair (and even better if using your store credit for an extra 10% off), and selection to be amazing. Its the best used gear shop Ive ever encountered, and Im grateful they are here in Bend.
Great service super friendly and always tell me what I need without upselling! Bob was the best!
This place is fantastic. I was able to find a deeply discounted pair of Miuras with little to no wear on the toe rubber. I also left a pair of Solutions with them to be resoled and I couldnt be happier. Not only did I get the shoes back sooner than they had quoted, but the quality of the resole is top notch. The soles of my Solutions look brand new. You guys are awesome!
Good service good bargains
Gear Fix is a great shop. Not only is it a great place to get gear, its a great place to sell your gear. The give you more for your money if you spend your consignment credit there, but if you just want a check, they print it up on the spot, no waiting. The employees are always helpful and friendly. The owner is very invested in the community and they continually support local non profits. This place rocks!
Tried to buy a raft from Gear Fix. The manager Matt Deacon told me no. Did not give a reason. Would not shop here again. To bad. Ill spend my money elsewhere. Did not like managers attitude or comments to me. Condescending and rude. You should probably not shop here as well.
Whoever the dude was working this afternoon (October 5, 2019) in the repair department needs to find work that is not customer oriented. Wow, he seemed too young for high blood pressure and hypertension.Everyone else there is always so friendly and helpful!
On my long distance ride from Seattle to San Francisco, a wheel spoke broke near Bend Oregon. I brought my bike to Gear Fix on 7/6/2019. There I met Rylan who replaced the wheel spoke and also did other maintenance and adjustment on the bike for me. He was friendly and professional. I enjoyed watching him work and was very impressed with his knowledge and skill. I would highly recommend his shop for any outdoor needs!
I wish these types of stores were everywhere!! Its like having a giant inventory of quality gear. You can come in and swap out your gear, get repairs done, sell your gear, buy gear, rent gear and place special orders. Awesome! Keep up the quality work guys!
Terrific Service. Last night I arrived just as the staff was trying to close up but they let me in so I could drop off some of my things to consign. The inventory is great and we love the new location and space. We always find some treasure there. The quality of the things being sold there is high and reasonably priced. With consigning goods youd always get a higher price if you tried to sell it yourself but thats how it works.
Ive been using these guys for the last few years, and Im pretty impressed. The cycle repair guys are always super helpful, and Ive had some pretty high-end parts from my downhill bike repaired by them that were out of warranty. No issues at all. Prices are decent. Turnaround time on cycle repairs is about average for the area. Just depends on how intricate the repair is, and if they need to order parts. I think a lot of the negative reviews on here are people from out of town visiting who broke their gear and impatiently wanted it repaired right away. Doesnt always work like that. Theres a queue of people - especially during busy season.Overall, I really like it here. Paul in cycling is awesome and super enthusiastic about his craft. New location is awesome. Their shop dogs are awesome. And if its a slow day, you can even walk next door and grab a cider while you wait on your repair. What more can you ask for?
I wanted to check out the new store and also hoped to find some winter hats for my grandsons. I was very impressed by how big the new store is, and by how much they have going on. The owner (or manager?) stopped to talk to me and I appreciated hearing him explain that they are still getting things moved in but are working hard to get it done.I found three hats that will be perfect for my grandsons and thought that overall, the move was a good one. Give these guys a little time to get all set up, but do stop by and see them!Congratulations on the move. Best of luck!
Beware. Insist on reviewing prices that they are going to sell your stuff. Do not let them price big items before reviewing the price! I dropped a 15+ winter items including skis, clothing, boots, etc before the start of the ski season right after the ski swap. They said they were too busy to set prices due to the volume of check ins and they would take care of it. They said I could check back the next week so what price they came up. When I checked back they next week nearly all the gear had sold. The thing was the prices were crazy low. 1/5 of retail. Burton and other high end brands. Way lower prices than anything comparable in the store. It was too late, all the gear was gone! After they take the 50% cut it I got so little money for what I dropped off. My gut it was at the start of the winter season any they were short on cash flow so they put the prices very low or some worker just did not care and made up prices as they had too much to check in after the ski swap. Only good thing is that when I looked around I found a few items (high end skis and poles from other sellers) that were put on at the same time after the ski swap there were ridiculously under priced so I snapped them up. Beware! Do not check in your gear right after the ski swap or insist on seeing the prices they will be selling it for!
Had some issues with a roof rack I bought and all of the staff was super helpful and kind getting all my gear squared away!! Awesome customer Service!!
A great store, but not super accurate on their time estimates for shoe repair. I went in, got a 6 week estimate for a pair of climbing shoes, and it took 9 weeks to get fixed. So just dont plan on that being particularly accurate.
Thanks to all the staff at The Gear Fix for helping me purchase used Lange ski boots on Thursday, February 13th. This was the first purchase of any ski equipment since 1982 - when I was a pro ski patroller on Mount Hood. Certainly, things have changed, and you gave me a lot of great information. Also, thank you for remounting my new skis!Kudos, too, for helping me try to find a misplaced Eddie Bauer down vest - believed to have been left behind. Once reported, you had several people look for it, even after the shop closed. When I returned on Saturday, a couple of your team members helped me look through the racks. (Ultimately, it was found hung up in a family members closet.)I appreciate your attention to customers. Soon, I will be back - as well as referring people to The Gear Fix!
I’ve had these fine folks repair a couple pairs of rock shoes and 2 pairs of gandas. Everything came back looking superb. They seem to do an excellent job and the rock shoes have held up. I’ve had good luck communicating with them, as well! Thanks, gear fix.
I went in to buy some skis as I am a beginner. When I got home I researched my purchase only to find out I was sold womens skis. As there is no return policy, I took them back to place on consignment. Nor one week later. When I tried to do this I was told they are no longer taking skis. I appreciate the lost investment and lack of proper help. I am a beginner who got taken advantage of.
I have an old Arcteryx puffy coat that is my absolute favorite. I left it against a heater a couple years ago, and melted the zipper to the point that it was unusable. I took it into Gear Fix, and in under a week they put a new zipper on the jacket. They did a fantastic job. You would never know that the zipper was even replaced. I will definitely be taking anything I need repaired back to there. Thanks for giving me my favorite coat back.
Great staff, very knowledgeable. Go in for bike fixes and upgrades and always leave happy and excited. Lots and lots of men and women clothing and backpacking packs! Usually a house dog is there to pet but he is a bit smelly.
I had my Mountaineering boots repaired & resoled by these guys, and they did a great job! High quality workmanship at a fair price. Very pleased with the results, and really appreciate the guys in the shoe repair dept going the extra mile to get my boots back in time for my Mt. Adams climb. Thanks guys!
Wow, someone giving this place a three star review because employees wave their hands in the air kind of funny Please - reviews are for rating business and the PERFORMANCE......NOT reviewing the personal choice as to how someone waves. Speaking of actual performance...these guys are good!
Great selection of used clothing and I love the idea! They have many outdoor gears too! The only thing missing was the friendliness of the employees. Maybe its just the people of Bend... they are not friendly.
My wife and I love this place - we get our loved outdoor clothing and equipment repaired there, find amazing buys on great used gear and find a place that can redeploy some of the outdoor gear we no longer use.
You should not take your used gear here if you have worked in the National Park System or worked or volunteered at thrift stores. The owner of the company does not take responsibility for employees loosing your outdoor gear at the store, lack of knowledge and ability to look the items up! This place is a total scam!
I love the store and you can get some nice deals on used gear. However, if you want to sell your used gear on consignment...be careful. I dropped off barely used pair of Fox Ventilator mountain biking shorts (new) and Arcteryx jacket (great shape, retails for $150). They sold my fox shorts for $20 and my jacket for $20. Ridiculous. That means I got a total of $20 for both items. Someone walked away with a great deal. If I would have known, then I would not have given them my gear. They didnt even ask how much Id like to sell them for. In the end they did credit my account and acknowledge that they shorted me, but still it was very little. In the end, this is great place to take your old gear, but if you have gently used gear and are expecting to get something for, then be careful. Make sure you suggest how much youd like for it.
Good selectiob, friendly staff and good prices. Got the wrong bindings on my skis put on and they sorted me out!
The Gear Fix has got some really great things going on. I had some service issues at first but they were promptly addressed. So if you do happen to have any issues just let them know and Im sure theyll take care of it right away. They have a great selection of good quailty used gear. If your looking for used gear in great condition this is the place to go. They also have a workshop area where they do repairs and fixes on your gear which is very convenient. You can get the gear you need for less out of your wallet.
I just called the Gear Fix to get a quote on a fix I needed for a tear in my backpack but Im also pretty far away. I asked for some advice on fixing it myself and the man on the phone was so helpful. I was so impressed!
Great place, even tho it was end of the season we found the snow pants I needed for snowmobiling today. Great service and smiles.
I was in from out of town with my family for a couple of days riding around Bend (which was Amazing!!). I banged my bike up and the entire crew was super cool in taking care of knocking it out fast and perfect. Thanks!! Go here!!
I bought a bike and some accessories and the experience was very pleasant. The tall thin bald man was very helpful and very knowledgeable. I appreciated his work and attitude.
This store is a wonderful, locally owned, outdoor, new, used and repaired sports store. The owner is always there and the employees are happy, engaged, and ultra helpful. The store supports local groups and is environmentally real.
They do a really nice job on fixing your climbing shoes!
I cant speak to the repair side of things...Ill leave that to others.I love used clothing, and they have a ton! However, the pricing seems pretty high, considering it is used - I know, good brands and all that. But for another $50 Ill go to REI and get a down vest with no stains on it. A white shirt with stains (Prana) for $25? Patagonia pants with a big hole in the knee? Come on. I would suggest being a bit pickier with what you choose to consign. Im willing to pay...but not for stained or ripped clothing.I also thought some of the pricing was odd - a packable Columbia down in decent condition for $40, but a light weight base layer (brand unknown) for $22.I suspect if you went back often enough, or got lucky, you would fine a great deal on something you love. But Ill stick to my fav second hand places to shop.
Huge store with a staggering variety of pre-owned sports equipment, clothes, hiking shoes/boots, you name it! Like a classy, up-scale sporting goods thrift store. They also have a real cobbler and all this equipment for fixing hiking/work boots and rock climbing shoes. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I cant say enough good things about this place.
I had some odd sewing done on synthetic fill, house slippers. The quality and workmanship were over the top outstanding. I would take anything in need of repair to GEAR FIX. 100% everything........
Best place to find gear for the new comers not knowing the difference between good and great. Turns out we got Great value at an amazing price.
Pretty much the best used gear shop Ever !! Awesome Humans! Quality Products! Thank you for existing!!
First time I was in here it was a bit much to take in. Second and third times I really dug in and found some great stuff.
I had a pair of hiking boots re-soled at The Gear Fix about two years ago. They told me it would take about a month, as they were a bit backed up, it ended up taking more than three months! The quality of the work seemed alright so I just brushed off how long the work took. But, when I grabbed them for work today I noticed that the heel of the left boot had started to come off the boot. I have worn these boots less than two weeks since having them re-soled at The Gear Fix. DO NOT have boot work done here, besides the ridiculous amount of time it takes them to preform the work, the quality is terrible.
Came in looking to check out some bikes and I found exactly what I was looking For! All the staff were very helpful and friendly, and got the bike all ready to go for me before we left. It was very easy and an overall great experience.
Great local business that is actively involved in lots of community events. They fix all your damaged outdoor gear from annoying zippers to melted sidewalls of tents and beyond. They also do great repairs on footwear and sell consignment outdoor gear of every nature -- kayaks, bikes, skis, boots, sunglasses and so on.
Great shop! Have used ski equipment for all sizes! Excellent help in choosing the right equipment and sizes for all levels! Very happy with staff and products!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good dogs too.
Good selection of new and used gear. Its our first stop for jackets, gloves, and for riding and climbing accessories.
My bikes gear sheared off while I was biking by the Deschutes. These guys were able to fix it fast, and at great value!
I had my jacket zipper fixed in 5-minutes, thank you for making selling, buying and fixing gear so easy!
One of my favorite stores here in Bend! Great place to find used gear and good deals.
Excellent variety. New and consigned. Well organized. Cool that the have a cobler and seamstress as well.
My snowboard binding was not working right and they guys there made a quick adjustment for me on the spot. I appreciate the quick and wonderful service!
Unprofessional behavior (likely from management, not the actual repair staff) for climbing shoe repair, would not recommend. We were quoted a certain turn-around time before sending in our shoes. After this time passed, we tried contacting them multiple times with no luck & had multiple voice messages unreturned. Turns out they moved locations without informing us, likely to get our business instead of going with a competitor with a shorter turn-around time. Gear Fix said they would discount the sale but the discount never appeared. Dishonest & unprofessional. Although the quality of shoe repair was great, that doesnt make up for their poor service and dishonest behavior. Find another repair store.
Helped repair my sons snow board binding, very friendly and helpful!
Tons of gear in great condition, plenty of room to try your treasures out in the store, helpful staff that dont pressure you, and great tag sales!
I really wanted to like these guys, theyre a local business and they guaranteed their work. Even their website said Thats why we GUARANTEE our work. If you arent happy with what you get back, well make it right. Plain and simple. So I decided to get my old climbing shoes resoled as it had a hole in it after 5 years of climbing in it. $60 bucks to fix the hole and have both shoes resoled with some Five Ten rubber and no need for a break in period seemed like reasonable enough deal.I get my shoes back and they dont look like brand new shoes, they looked hand crafted rubber added to the front half sole of my shoe. All that matters to me is the grip and a good edge. Seems good enough.Fast forward 3 months I start to get another hole. The rubber used to resole was cheap rubber, no where near Five Ten or La Sportiva quality and I definitely could see edging wear so quickly.I contacted them because they GUARANTEE their work.Their response wasAt 4 months after the resole, your shoes arent showing any spectacular or abnormal amount of damage. Best I could do for you is offer you 20% off your next repair with us, just to make you feel a little better about the situation.Thats the type of guarantee you can expect, a 20% off your next repair. Its sort of customer service you expect at a corporate retailer like Bed Bath and Beyond. Ive been climbing for over 15 years and own several pairs of shoes for different styles of climbing, it took 5 years for my favorite pair to finally get a hole in it and it took their resole 4 months. None of my other shoes have burned through rubber that quickly and Ive been climbing in a different pair of shoes since with no problems.Youre better off just buying new shoes instead of having it resoled. I have pro deals so I could get new shoes for $100 but I really wanted to support these guys, theyre local and seemed to stand by their work. If I were you, I would just wait for REI to give you a 20% discount and at least theyll give you a full refund after a year if youre not happy, not another 20% off.Their customer service was more disappointing than their resole work.
Great place for second hand sporting equipment. Very helpful staff!!!
My brake was too loose and ended up getting caught inside my rim, causing my tube to pop. I walked my bike over to gear fix and they fixed it for me for $14 and it took no more than ten minutes. Extremely satisfied with my experience.
Good values on used ski gear and repair shop
Used, stained, missing hood ski coats for 70+ dollars. Not impressed, way over priced.
Been dealing with Gear Fix for 5 years. Always great.
Unhelpful staff. Bought a bike wheel here, before purchasing asked a staff member what the axle compatibility was with the hub. I needed 12x142, told the staff member that, and he assured me this wheel was 12x142. When I got it home, it turned out the wheel was 10x135, so the wheel doesnt fit on my bike!
I dropped new skis off to be mounted 3 days before leaving town on a ski trip. The tech said 24 hour turn around, 36 max. I ended up having to delay my trip because they werent ready yet on my day of departure. Terrible service. Major inconvenience.
Had David take bindings off my sons old skis and put on hooks for a coat rack. Friendly & did a great job!
Great service, great beer & the best fish and chips anywhere!
Used gear at outlet store prices! Dont waste your time or money here, almost everything here is a rip off
My fave second-hand sport shop
Vest selection and price on used ski and snowboard boots and clothes. But their skis and boards are expensive
Great place to find used/new equipment
Made me feel like an inconvenience, had an attitude the whole time.
Very well stocked with used seasonal items
