This is a favourite destination for bike rides and walks, a beautiful small cafe in a beautiful part of Toronto. The muffins and cookies are very good, as is the coffee are both very good. They offer their own fair trade organic (and bird friendly) coffee.
I used to come here when i lived in the mimico area. Last time i was down here was no different. I love this place. You get what you paid for. Good quality coffee. The Business is eco friendly. My straw was the cardboard style not plastic. The store was clean. Arrows on the floor to let you know its a one way. Door was opened at the back to avoid crowding in the store. They have a chart to show birds that have been seen in the area. I always get the iced mocha. And everytime i have it. Its always the same. And it tastes good. So that means good consistancy not like chained coffee stores that always have new untrained workers. Definetly a place i go get my coffee when we go to amos waites. Probably going to visit again in a couple weeks when we go that way again. Keep up the good work.👍
I had a latte but didnt taste a while lot of flavor besides milk. The major problem is the biodegradable lids though. Makes the coffee just taste and smell like paper, I just took it off and didnt bother with it.
Lacks customer service.......The coffee is decent, but the staff are consistently surly and abrasive, such that I will stop going there to get coffees. When you ask for an extra hot latte and get lukewarm, ( this has happened on a few occasions with very clear coffee orders) ..... you dont expect a dismissive attitude....but thats what you get here if they screw up.....And no, its not because staff are busy, staff here present as consistently detached and dismissive with customers!
Birds & Beans are doing an excellent job in keeping the community safe, while serving great coffee and tasty muffins too! ;-)The staff are friendly, while safely taking your cappuccino and mocha, chocolate coffee, order inside the store. The Birds & Beans coffee choice, as well as the shelves being fully stocked make it a terrific place to stop in.Management has done an awesome job of creating a safe ordering store, with one way traffic flow. While an outside pickup window means no-one needs to loiter inside or re-enter to pick up their hand crafted coffee beverage. It is wonderful to recognize that the Birds & Beans staff take their health and safety responsibility seriously.Enjoy the excellent coffee and know that your ordering experience will be done most quickly and safely by the great Birds & Beans staff.
Update: after communicating with the owner, it seemed there was a series of misunderstandings and confusion that led to my experience with this business. I did not receive the pick up email for whatever reason, though the business certainly did send it. I received a refund and the matter was settled. 3/5 still because of the unwelcoming attitude by one of the employees during my visit. I drove far to get here, so imagine my disappointment when I showed up with a smile but wasn’t met with that much in return. Instead, I was made to feel like a nuisance. Hope they can work on fixing these issues.Really disappointed with my experience here so far. I placed an order for 12oz of ground beans on Friday morning with the cafe pick up option. It doesn’t make it explicitly clear that it’ll take super long for it to be ready, and that pick up at the cafe can’t happen the same day. I went in to pick up and there were two people working. One was really kind and understanding but the other was really cold and uninviting. I didn’t realize it would take so many days to pick up 12oz of ground coffee from…a cafe….???? It’s Wednesday now and it’s still not ready for pick up. And there’s no option to cancel my order. Ridiculous.
Awesome place! Felt so safe with their rules implemented to operate during covid! (one directional traffic in/out, and 2 people allowed in at a time). They even have a pick-up window if you order ahead of time! Eco-friendly coffee and packaging. Will be getting coffee, beans, and treats from here on the regular!
One of the great coffee shops on Lakeshore especially if youre in the mood for a coffee and a walk lakeside :)
I dont drink coffee, but when I do its here. Its a Mocha double shot. Tasted amazing. Unreal. But I dont drink coffee.
Very cozy place to buy a coffee a read a book 👍🏻
Lovely little coffee shop, beautiful exterior with paintings of birds, and nice local bird photography inside. In addition to serving nice coffee and selling beans, they have a decent selection of local and eco friendly grocery items and handy kitchen stuff. I recently moved to the area from downtown and have come here a few times, all the staff I have interacted with have been pleasant and professional. I will be returning and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice coffee to enjoy by the lake.
Amazing coffee, you wont regret it. Staff are great. When the outdoor seating opens, youll love it
One of the best cups of coffee Ive ever had, hands down. The cortado is mind blowing
Great shop. Great coffee. Staff have been amazing on my visits. Highly recommend. The addition of the ordering window for peeps who dont or cant wear a mask is a great / safe option. Looking forward to the end of COVID when we can all linger longer but for now keep safe and keep this great cafe open for business!
I absolutely adore this little Etobicoke coffee shop! They are the most eco friendly spot Ive come across and I appreciate that so much! Thank you for putting so much effort into making the world a little greener. The coffee and other beverages are also amazing as is the food. Highly recommend!
A little gem of a shop on the lakeshore. One of the top coffees in the city.
I’ve lived in the area for 15+ years and I don’t know why I never stepped foot here earlier. Such a cute cafe and great coffee, with a short walk to the view of the water. Will definitely be visiting routinely!
Very good quality coffee. Service is fast but only friendly half of the time. Maybe a little to strict with their Covid policy.......hence docking of 1-star. Sometimes people need to remove their mask to get the fog from out of their glasses or to take medication. Just a suggestion.....to lighten up a bit. ....but the coffee is excellent.
Good coffee, poor outdoor seating area, there were no tables when I went.
Turnaround times on orders is nothing short of brutal for cortados. Beverage was decent but would not recommend as there was not a long line up and not worth the wait
Horrible service! We ordered coffee online ahead of time and they made us wait for 20 minutes while making drinks for people ordered inside first. If you dont take online order, then dont make it as an option!
The best coffee in Toronto. And I am talking about taste now, but if you take a look at the design and location you will totally fall in love. This is place of my energy, where baristas know how to do cappuccino!!! It’s not too hot, and it has the right “foam” - not too hot.My boyfriends isn’t drink coffee before, but once he tried here - he can’t stop😍
Coffee is decent but overpriced. Would not let me use washroom during a pandemic when I was wearing a mask. I am disabled as my colon was surgically removed... they just dont care. Always asking for tips when you pay putting you on the spot even if you just buy something already packaged to go. Hard to give them more than 2 stars.Response to below: Closing washrooms as part of pandemic protocol is a pretty lame excuse, because there are exceptions. Even with masks there are exceptions for people that have difficulty breathing due to underlying condition. Put yourself in my situation: I drove 25 minutes to meet a friend for a coffee. I needed to go to washroom as I cannot hold it due to lack of colon. Because you wouldnt make an exception I have to get back into the car and and drive home in discomfort, leaving my friend behind. Meanwhile you are asking for a tip when I got a coffee to go. Been going to your place for about 5 years (since before I was disabled), and honestly.. you lost my respect after this incident. Wont be back as a matter of principle.
I love this little coffee shop! not only do they sell coffee and teas they also sell lots of zero waste products
Warm atmosphere, super-friendly staff and the best coffee. Pleasantly busy, without being too crowded. Window seats are the best, but every seat is great. Very family friendly. This place is very conscious of the environment—but not at all in a pushy way.Note: the back patio is terrific in warm weather, with cool sun-shades, too!
Horrible customer service indeed!! Not only they asking you to leave a tip, most products are way overpriced for no apparent reason!! Before Covid, I want too much worried about customer service, as I came there mainly for the fair trade coffee. Not only the way they making coffee became bad, but the attitude towards customers is horrible!!! The tall, big, red hair lady who apparently a right hand of the owner of the shop has very bad manners!! I’m medically exempt from wearing a mask, and I have been telling them over and over again!! They still have to reminding me that I’m not like everyone, not only that, but last time I was the only customer at their small short - they refused their service and asked me to shop on line!’ It actually a discrimination towards prop with medical exemption!! They also told me that they not taking cash money anymore, which is still a legal Canadian tender, and there is no where in the by law is mentioned!!! I’m shocked how small business like this creating their own new laws and regulations!! Never go there again!! This place became really low!!!
This is a COVID times review. The shop allows a couple of people in at a time. There is one direction flow. Enter, order and pay at the counter, grab your purchase and head out the back door. There is also a pick up window on the west side of the building. On this visit, my first, there were a few baked goods, some Easter treats but I was only looking for coffee. (It was Easter Monday and very little foot traffic. I have seen up to 3 people waiting to get in.)Two medium sized coffees came to $5 plus. It was brewed coffee, quite mild. Pretty fresh too and hot.My one complaint is that the barista didnt tell me the amount of my purchase. And after I paid she didnt offer a receipt. I had to ask for it. Not a big deal but goes to level of customer service. There are other food and non-food items for sale in the store but I didnt take a good linger.Did notice a chart up on the wall with bird sightings from the area -- a nod to their name... A unique theme for a coffee shop. There does seem to be room to sit in, once we get back to those privileges.
Awful service. Problem everyone time I went there(Hi Madeleine, I definitely know how much it hurts because I run a small business too. However, I do not discriminate against my customers like your shop does. You dont accept physical money and you made it clear to anyone that cant wear a mask for health or mental reasons that they are not welcome there. There are consequences to those actions and you should accept them.Im always surprised how small businesses try to operate this way and then complain that they need help from the government or just community. If you want to be a part of it then I would suggest being a little more tolerant to individuals that have chosen to come and support the little shop rather than Starbucks or whatever.Anyway, good luck with your store. I hope you can adjust your attitude to all not just a few.)
Best coffee and matcha. 11/10 because they carry soy milk option.
Great coffee 100% recommend
This is a very nice place with great coffee, and they have managed the seating well given the pandemic. It is still cozy, considering. A bit cheeky, though: the servers always ask if you will be adding a tip today. I never do. Tips are at buyer discretion, not when asked.
Fresh brewed coffee .. amazing customer service
What a gem. Delicious lite lunch and snacks, and a full selection of organic coffee grown in bird friendly conditions which is delicious and surprisingly affordable (but not cheap). This is quite the social hub in Mimico village, and its friendly atmosphere takes you back to those good days before independent coffee chains were pretentious.Try the spinach empanadas!!
The Honduran howler monkey bold roast beans are very good. Bird friendly.
Great place to enjoy a cup of coffe. Great service and amazing date squares.
Actually one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while!
Great coffee, perfect cappuccino :-) So happy that I found this place. They also have some almong cookies. My friend tried them and she says that they are really nice.Going back there for sure, coffee is much better than in any other place in the area!!!
Great service and quality beans.
The coffee and pastries are decent! Thank you!
A nice coffee if you are looking for good local coffee place. Very effective COVID-19 preventive measures.
So many vegan options! Not a vegan, but its nice to see. LGBTQ+ friendly
Best coffee stop especially if you are biking along lake shore blvd.
I visited the place several times. But somehow I found myself avoiding it.Price/quality ratio is what repelled me. It is not horrible, no. Just it is the last choice.
Excellent service! Its a perfect spot to stop and get a coffee after a long bike ride ;)Pre-covid, lots of seating. Now, I enjoy the pick-up window and the Parkette where you can sit and enjoy your coffee, or just take a short 2min walk to the waterfront.
Great coffee. Friendly staff.
Very quirky Cafe with interesting coffee choices! Great entry, exit, and pickup options in the covid era.
A small and cozy coffee shop. I try to support it instead of visiting a multi-million dollar franchises. They have decent coffee, great organic iced coffee, and scrumptious cookies. The decor is cute and relaxing. This is an excellent place to read and meditate. If you’re looking for a wellness retreat at a cost of $5 for a coffee, this is it.
They roast their own beans and their espresso based coffee is out of this world. I absolutely recommend popping in and trying their coffee. Prior to Covid they had a lovely patio in the back and sitting space inside, super cute and relaxed.
Did not have a good customer service experience my last two visits and will not be visiting again. When attempting to clarify COVID regulations, the responses I received were rude, condescending and showed a lack of concern over customers that arent regulars/ people that staff recognize. Store needs additional signage to accurately support first-time visitors through their COVID procedures if they arent willing to offer additional information verbally in a respectful way.
Highly recommend! Had a delicious cortado here. They have a great setup inside and a nice patio seating area facing the park. Also, all the cups and lids are compostable, which is awesome.
Coffee tastes like powder. Lids are horrible which absorbs coffee when youre drinking leaving a cardboard taste in your mouth. Long line ups dont know why. Also when paying the woman always asks if you would like to leave a tip. My tip is change your lids.
Living near Birds & Beans is one of my favourite things about being in Mimico. Staff are so friendly and helpful, service is great, and their coffee is the best.
This is probably the best coffee shop in Etobicoke. The espresso based drinks here are very tasty and if you are in this part of Toronto and want a great cup of coffee this is the place to go. You wont find many other shops with this type of quality coffee in Etobicoke so make sure this is your destination when in need of a boost.
Best flat white ever. Great social distancing practices. Awesome customer service
Excellent coffees
Been coming here for years - 2005 to be exact. Its a little piece of heaven (not talking about their baked goods ;)The place is magical as if time stops everytime Im in there. Great vibe and positivity - Sometimes on the weekends you can even hear people playing classical instruments which adds even more to the ambiance. Coffee is one of a kind, baked goods are amazing, couple that with the cozy place and youve got yourself the perfect place!Reviews may talk about their price but honestly, you get what you pay for - Its an experience!!
Great place and friendly service
Very nice people,place and coffee
Cozy environment, friendly staff, good variety of products with strong ethics, and damn fine coffee.
Visiting here almost every week from last few months. Always miss their espresso
Coffee so so otherwise nice shop
Pretty good coffee:), but long line-up:/
Great little local coffee shop. They roast their own beans and boast about having bird friendly coffee. In the summer they have a nice little patio off the back where you can sit outside and enjoy one of their many coffee drinks and small food menu then take a stroll along the waterfront. Great way to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown.
I’m really disappointed that this place isn’t better as it’s by far the highest rated coffee place in my neighborhood.I recently moved from downtown, where I knew my go to places were for beans, and looked for the best beaneries around south Etobicoke. This place really stood out, so I tried a few of their darker roasts for espressos and richer pour overs, aiming for ones that claimed to have fruity, chocolate, and caramel like flavors. However, even though the beans were about 1 week past their roast date, the beans had no depth of flavor, tasted VERY similar to what I’d expect from a big can of foldgers, and could barely form a crema. I really want to give this place another try, but after 3 different tries of their bagged beans, I will likely have to resort to delivery options from other suppliers.
Very cute cafe! Nice coffee (nothing to write home about tho). My husband and I had two Cookies from here and they were very good. However its not really a place that you can sit for too long as its very small and it can get crowded quickly. However if its not too busy its quite nice. The atmosphere I would describe as cute and somewhat cozy.
I would like to thank the barista with the bangs for the incredible service. I didn’t feel like I was walking into just any regular coffee shop. I was greeted with a smile and a warm attitude from this employee which instantly made my day so much better. It felt like my order was made with love rather than “just another customer”. Its experiences like that, that bring me back to places such as this. Thank-you!
Good coffee
Always great. Patio sun was so nice today. Great opportunity to bring your organic sustainably produced coffee in a biodegradable cup, with you for a walk down by the lake. Just make sure you deposit the empty cup back into the green bin located behind the café after you return. Enjoy!
Best coffee in Etobicoke
Always happy with the selection of groceries and of course love the coffee here!
My fav cafe close to home. The vibe in this place is amazing. In the summer when they have the chairs out, its even better. Coffee is great as well. Prices good.
The coffee Id rate very good and the baked products average and over-priced.The biggest problem with this place is the unengaged and disinterested young female staff. Ive tried to give the place a chance having gone there at least a dozen times but other than some of the older staff who are respectful and pleasant the younger ones seem bothered by having to serve customers.Ill wait until there are some improvements before going back to this place. Lots of other choices west of here.August 2018Ive increased the number of stars from 3 to 4 as this place has improved substantially. The staff are now older it seems, very pleasant, and attentive. Whoever is doing the hiring now should be commended. My only complaint now is the price of the breakfast cookie, but that keeps me from ordering one too often. Coffee is excellent as usual.
Decent coffee for a small, local place. However the prices are astronomical for the food.2 wraps and 2 lattes should not cost 32$.Last time well go there.
One of the unexpected response I got today from one of the server today. Almost, four or five days a week, I always go to get a coffee and spend some time at patio. Indeed, they serve a good coffee and I always get a medium coffee. Today, after having my coffee and spending on way to work, I met kids, asking for money so that they can buy some chocolate. When I checked my wallet, I found that I didnt have the change. Then I go back to coffee shop and asked about the possibility of giving me a change for 10 dollars bill as two 5$ bills. A lady who was taking a cash told me “We don’t give a change unless you buy some thing from us”. Even though, I am also working in customer service, I have never refuse to make a change for a bill. This is the first time that I have been refuse by some one to make a change of a bill($10) in my five years in Canada. Please be helpful if you can because you will get what you give and you will loose nothing.
The coffee was excellent. Found it a bit noisy to concentrate due to low volume music coming from an overhead speaker and people in the next booth. Lots of hard surfaces so nothing to absorb the sound. Nice, funky atmosphere for those who like that sort of thing.
The place is very cute but Im giving it 2 stars because I want charged the price of a small tea $1.95 for hot water although I had brought my own reusable cup and it was to warm up my babys bottle. I thought that was pretty steep for water without a cup or tea bag. Definitely not going back.
Great little spot, go there whenever Im near by
I gotta say this little coffee shop in mimico is a gem. Coffees great and its so sans attitude youd never guess. From the art on the wall theyre bird friendly too. Theres a breakfast cookie chock full of seeds that I like to get too:)
Cozy coffee shop with lots of character. I like the bird watching chart near the entrance. Ill come back in nicer weather to sit on the patio. Maybe walk my dog in the park / trail next door.
Delicious coffee, friendly staff 😋
For what you pay the quality just wasnt there. The service on the other hand was friendly and for this reason I may just drop back in for a second try.
Excellent coffee. Baffling pricing structure. Its understandable that going off list for some of the more obscure coffee variants like breve or substituting steamed/ textured cream for milk can add confusion and uncertainty to prices. But, its not rocket science. Its a marginal increase. For some bizarre reason they are charging dramatically more. In contrast, if I were to order a regular coffee I can add as much milk or cream as my heart desires.......................at no cost! Like I said, strange. Id be more than happy to sit down with the owners and talk about it. I love the coffee and am willing to drive further to get it but not at the price Im currently paying.
Had lunch today for the first time at this coffee shop. The staff was so friendly and happy to be working there. You have to try the banana muffin, so good!!
