Really cool laid back coffee place in Berkeley. Looks like a good place to hang out when indoor dining is open again with cool music playing and relax vibes. They have a qr code posted on the window for you to order drinks.Got a latte w/ Oakmilk and a slow drip chemex coffee. I ordered a espresso but the barista gave me a mocha. Had to save that for later since I didnt want to over caffeinate myself! Both were delicious! Staff was wearing a mask and there was plenty of street parking.
I really appreciated the inclusive, community-centered vibes here. When I visited it was pretty slammed. Only one person was working, but they still got orders out kindly, accurately, and lightning-fast! My order was wonderful. The cold brew has a cinnamon flavor to it that I was not expecting, but it was still very good. I’m looking forward to trying their pour-over on my next visit!
Amazing vegan tamales!! very cute place with great coffee and amazing staff. best coffee spot in the neighborhood
Cool WFH spot. That oatmilk latte shmacks
Literally the best-tasting coffee I have had in a long time!
Good coffie. No indoor acess.
Get the chemex pour over coffee. You wont regret it ever.
This is not necessarily the place I would recommend for a speedy cup of coffee. This is definitely the place I would recommend for a great coffee. Alchemy is where I go to treat myself because everything there tastes like a dream. Its rare to have a black cup of coffee taste so great and have an amazing steamed oat milk latte. The baristas take their time perfectly making each cup. Pre-covid, Alchemy was also the quintessential coffee shop to spend an hour or two enjoying life.
Great neighborhood coffee spot. Dig the food and the folx who work there. VERY inclusive spot where everyone can feel they can be part of it. Thanks for being a gem in the community.
Great spot, safe, inclusive and friendly! Great espresso.
Great coffee. Friendly staff. Staff owned. Relaxing sunny environment. Breakfast tacos were good too. Feta, arugula, pickled onions, hot pepper spread, boiled egg on corn tortillas. Surprisingly filling.
Alchemy has a nice, welcoming atmosphere and is dog friendly, too. I liked the look of the place. The seating is limited, though and if you need an electrical outlet, this shop may not be your best bet. The drip coffee is bitter, and that is the biggest reason I wont return.
This place is definitely the best coffee shop in the east bay. Its got an awesome staff who are really skilled, amazing coffee, and decent prices for the quality. Great vibe inside with an eclectic crowd. Only downside is that there isnt a ton of seating, but its usually not a problem. Love this place.
This place is my favorite place to get coffee in the east bay. Most of their roasts are lighter but if you are looking for something darker, try out snake bite. Very few places make an almond milk latte as expertly as Alchemy does. The only downside I can think of is going to most other coffee places isnt an option any more.
Alchemy is still the best cafe for coffee and espresso drinks in the East Bay--doubly so since Blue Bottle is now owned by Nestle! My wife swears by the iced mocha but I get the cold brew every time. Consistently great drinks, awesome service and a funky atmosphere make Alchemy my go-to coffee shop.
Awesome little shop with a great vibe and good music. Ultra hipster with hipster prices, but worth it for the really good drinks and chill people. Very tiny, so find a good place to stand and wait, because chances are it will be awkward for a sec before you get your drink and go. But while you stand, youll have some awesome walls full of bay area art to look at!
Good service, coffee and snacks. WiFi was fast as well. Just a little overcrowded...
Very hip and and overall nice place to hang. Their craft approach makes service slow even when you are the only one in the place but speed is not what you come here. Excellent for when one is feeling contemplative.
The coffee. My god, what coffee. This place deserves the rep. The balance of smooth, strong and a hint of citrus that doesnt veer into tart or acrid- this is a rare cup.Staff is friendly and helpful, and the decor is beautiful. Check out the rotations of work by local artists on the walls, or grab a seat on the patio and people watch. Amazing place. Really wish we had something this good in LA.
Amazing music and coffee. The staff play excellent tunes. Im always finding out about new music from them. My all time favorite coffee shop.
Excellent! Best chai Ive had here in Berkley. Not super sweet and full of warm spice. I also love the whole feel of this shop warm and powerful. Seating both inside and outside.
My favorite coffee place. The cappuccino is perfect almost every time, perfect temp, perfect microfoam, perfect size, etc. The baristas are nice too. Plus, it’s not super over priced like some third wave coffee places. I’d happily pay more, don’t tell them. :)
Probably one of the best coffee in the Bay. Amazing crew, as a co-op they really care about customer and the community.
Nicest people, good coffee and food. Worker ownd collective. Not your average coffee shop.
Excellent pourover coffee and a few very good croissants/pastries. Vibe is extra hip. Outdoor seating that faces some beautiful murals across the street.
Our current neighborhood go-to. The dirty hipster smell is just ripe enough for me to stand it and well worth enduring for a wonderful shot of espresso. Care goes into warming the glasses before service and there was a healthy amount of folks around. Intrigued by the bondage art at the time. One request though: for those of us having coffee before high noon the sun outside is right into the eyes, inside was full and we were left squinting out on the front porch seats. An awning would be perfect!
Some nice kids working there. More importantly, the coffee is really good. They have some issues confronting people about etiquette in a coffee shop. Personal hygiene and what not.
They make good espresso drinks here.
Local cafe. Great place to hang with a friend or read. Not ideal for computer work really but I don’t think it’s the vibe
A small coffee shop with large windows giving lots of light to the people inside who were seated around the few tables. There are also a couple of seats on the sidewalk.Previously when I would get here I would be greeted as soon as I came in and immediately felt the relaxed atmosphere. Now the mood has changed and there are times I feel like Im bothering the folks when I order coffee. Im almost ready to drop a start off of my review. Time will tell. The place has some nice woodwork, I enjoy places that have a personal touch. Apparently one of the alchemists is a wood worker and built many of the furnishings. I think these kind of things give life to a place, the people are really invested.I had a folded pastry (no idea what kind) and a cappuccino. The pastry was fluffy inside and crunchy outside, it tasted fresh and sweet, but not too sweet. I could have eaten three, its best that I only had one.The cappuccino is the best Ive had in the area so far. It was creamy from start to finish. The cup is small in the traditional way and it was made with whole milk without my asking for it. The head, while a bit thin, was fairly firm and kept its design through the first few sips of coffee (a great sign that the barista knows what they are doing). Its just under a two and a half mile walk from my office to this place but I know Ill be visiting it from time to time when I want a really good cup of coffee. From the flavor in the cappuccino I think they use a good quality coffee, but Ill know better when I go back for an espresso.
Coffee Ok, but there are better places in Berkeley. Staff friendly. Outdoor seating is frequented by homeless people
Great coffee, friendly atmosphere, fun music. The prosciutto toast was also very tasty :)
I consider this the best coffee shop in Berkeley, now that Local 123 was sold to Highwire Roasters. I love the coffee here, I love the fun, hip vibe. Lots of places to sit. Great music! The employees really care since its a collective and theyre all part owners.
Good people, as long as you get out of their way when theyre trying to close.Good coffee and pastries
Incredibly good espresso, expertly made. Unique coffees by the bag, or as pourovers. Very small space, decorated with local art. Water dish in the outdoor patio. Very bright sunlight indoors & out.
Great community coffee shop. Love the people who work there. Dont expect to get your sugary coffee drinks here though
This cafe shop is fabulous. I like how the place is designed. The people who work there are very friendly. I would highly recommend this cafe.
This coffee-shop-with-a-conscience sell nice and spicy chai lattes. The house-made chai can sometimes be watery, though (guessing from a different person preparing the brew).
Great coffee and awesome vibe to this little shop. The hessian crucible was delicious with strong notes of chocolate and cocoa nibs. Yummy.
Great coffee
Sickeningly good food, coffee rocks.
Always a rare treat to have a cup of coffee that you can drink absolutely black.Smooth, rich, flavorful, and all around well balanced.
Very nice place to hang around, good menu options and location!
Love the decor of this place. Love that its a worker-owned cooperative, and it has the BEST homemade chai anywhere! Two thumbs up!
Uber-politically correct Lefty coffee joint. This place should be on an episode of PortlandiaCoffee was okay. Actually it was good but for the price I expected better.Middling atmosphere. Some sofas but I suspect that theyre usually occupied by off duty Occupy Wall Street veterans.Local bums hanging around panhandling, asking for cigarettes, and smoking in front of the place so it got to smelling like cigarette smoke.
Hidden away in Berkeley lies the science of good coffee. Alchemy is worth seeking out, with great coffee and small bites this whimsical coffee shop is sure to delight.
Nice people. Good coffee. What more could you ask for?
Some of the best the East Bay has to offer in terms of vibe, culture, and (of course) COFFEE. Extra props for the delicious, beautiful egg toast.
Fantastic coffee. Employee owned local place. Totally worth going out of your way for.
Got the Ethiopian beans and they were fantastic. Always looking for a coffee shop that isnt a franchise and this place doesnt disappoint.
Love that they are a collective!!! Great vibes, vegan doughnuts and yummy coffee in beautiful presentation:)
Coffee is decent. Staff are rude. Coffee is sold by 10 ounces my 16 oz cup was charged as 2 cups. Meaning I paid double for .6 more than there cup. Sugar is always low. I actually stopped at another shop to add more sugar. So at 5.25 for a 16 ounce cup I will be hitting terra mia more often. Oh heads up not everyone who wears carhartt is homeless. I actually own my home and the truck I drove up in.
Cute little coffee collective in South Berkeley. Great pastries, too!
Friendly helpful staff. Good place for coffee and conversation, and its a co-op!
I love the coffee the ambiance and the staff!
Delicious coffee and snacks. Lovely baristas. Vibrant South Berkeley block.
Good coffee, friendly staff, cozy setting. There is seating inside and out. Art by local artists decorates the shop and is for sale as well.Highly recommended.
Nice place, with some great coffee options. Less one star because they close at 5 pm
Great cappuccino, etc. Friendly staff. Collective. In the up and coming Loren/Lorel? district.
Worker owners! The photo was an attempt to update the open hours on Google Maps. Blame for the lame, Google!
A very oakland vibe, a little dirty like a club opened for tea. Nice to just chill
Coffee is good and reach. Average hipsters coffee/roastery in the warehouse
Poc, collectively owned, good peoples, healthy food and drinks. ✊️🏽
I should say that I didnt spend much time there but I enjoyed my interaction with the barista and the chai latte I ordered was good although they only serve it in a small size which wasnt what I would have chosen. I have it on good authority that they have great coffe though. Ill let you be the judge of that.
Great atmosphere, nice location, good prices, great service
Im giving it two stars for the food service. They have a small enticing menu that includes egg sandwiches. But, and they had ran out of bread, and the server said it happens all the time, and didnt know when theyll get more? My choices were severely limited, and so I ordered a macchiato instead. The coffee presentation was nice, but the taste was awful; the beans were definitely burned not roasted. I couldnt finish the macchiato, and because it left a tart aftertaste. Regarding its interior design; brown hues and beautiful wallpaper on one side. Thats what attracted me to come inside and try it out. But, you start to look around, as you wait for your order, and you see its very grundgy, and a bit dirty near the seating area. One saving grace, is large storefront windows, that give proper light throughout. They have fee Wi-Fi, so you can work on your laptop as you manage to drink the coffee......
Killer espresso, friendly staff, and a decent patio. Most importantly, the beans are from Verve and the preparation immaculate
Good pour overs. Great mochas
Worker owned coop serving up delicious drinks and delightful pastries.
Good tea, lovely vibes and friendly staff!
Cute small coffee shop with nice options for snacks and breakfast! =)
Always like the coffee, really nice staff too.
Some of the best coffee youll have in your life, period.
My best days start with a latte and Kouign-amann at Alchemy. I love pulling up on the sidewalk and kicking it with the neighborhood, while the coffee brews.
Delicious espresso, great folks, and the best decaf beans in America
Only hipster coffee spot (i.e. Blue Bottle-esque) Ive found in this area. Put a lot of effort into each cup and so far has been the best Ive had in Bushrod/Ashby
Custom roasted coffee is REALLY good, staff are awesome.
Good coffee, but expensive. Friendly servers.Small space, limited phone charge.
Best coffee in the bay area without a doubt!
A cozy place with great coffee :)
Amazing coffee. Great community.
Amazing Chai, chill workers, yummy snacks.
Very small portion of granola for $6. Disappointing.
Perfect espresso, relaxing atmosphere, sweet people.
Great coffee and fun atmosphere
Friendly barista, good coffee, and good atmosphere.
Finally good coffee in the US!
Cozy and good coffe
Great shop, good people.
Every employee is awesome.
Fabulous vegan latte!
