Good selection, good place to learn to play Magic: the Gathering (and buy supplies ) as well as D&D ( and buy supplies). Oh yeah, unlike a lot of comic shops, they have a lot of Gundam models! Plus, the staff enjoy talking Comics. Take that, C@#^cology!

This place is always so nice! Its a small storefront that ONLY does comics, Im always surprised they do enough business to stick around. The selection of comics is out of this world, and they even had some manga. The gentleman at the front counter was super nice and helped me find things and chatted with me about what restaurants were in the area since I was looking for lunch. Prices were pretty good, and the store was tidy, well organized, and clean. The neon sign was really neat!I really like Big Planet and I always stop by when Im in Bethesda, which sadly isnt often anymore.

Friendly comic book store with a great selection. Monthlies are neatly organized by title. In addition lots and lots of omnibuses from Marcel, DC, Dark Horse, and indies. If you earmark at least ten books per month (a subscription), you get 10% off all purchases.

Update: The shop spears to be closed, permanently.Apologies to the former owners, but Im changing this to a one-star review, to flag readers. It was an excellent store.Update 2: Ive heard that the store is moving to a new location, but that the new location hasnt opened yet. I hope thats true. Good luck!---A warm, well-lit shop -- with a knowledgeable gentleman behind the counter. What more could I ask? How about a stocked section of kid-friendly comics? Its there. An alcove of comics for older folks? Its there, too.Whats not to like? Bethesda parking. Its crowded around here. And dont forget to feed the meters even on Saturday, or youll eat a $45 fine. Ouch.

I love this store. Out of the 4 comic stores within 20 miles of me, this is the third farthest, but easily my favorite. They put the focus on customer service, comics and trade paperbacks as opposed to limitless action figures, collectible card games and toys. If they dont have it theyll order it for you. Many shops that have trades are very random about whats in stock. If I want to start a new series I probably dont want to start with #3 and then have to skip to #5. Theres no problems of that nature here. They have entire runs available and as I said they will order what you want if its not on the shelves. Knowledgable and friendly. Only negative is that the shop is relatively small.

I wanted to get my five year old son into comic books, so I took him there as a special treat . After a 30 minute drive my son was excited, but needed to use the restroom. The guy behind the counter was completely unhelpful. Forget this place! There are friendlier comic book stores in the area that are willing to take care of their customers.

Ive been visiting Big Planet on and off for 30 years. They always have great recommendations. They always have the latest issues. They remember your face. They say Hi to your kids. They always show passion for the art and stories that they sell. Its unreasonable to expect anything more from a comic shop. I love this place and Ive loved it for a very long time.

This is pretty much the only comic shop in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area, but it isnt just filling a void. They dont only carry books from the big publishers, but a lot of the indies too. The staff is extremely helpful as well and are very polite even when bombarded with questions by comic newbies. Some say physical comics are dying out, but Im not giving up on Big Planet anytime soon.

Ive been going to Big Planet since they opened in the mid-1980s, back when Joel opened the store with Gene. In terms of customer service, friendliness, knowledge of comics, availability of new products, Joel and his crew cant be beat. Keep in mind my review is based on nearly thirty years of continual shopping at Big Planet. I would advise savvy collectors to ignore reviews by one-time visitors who are most likely not that involved in the fan community. Big Planet has been instrumental in local fandom get-togethers, arranging guest visits from comic pros, newsletters, and in keeping the comic store alive in the DC area as much - if not more - than anyone else in the last couple decades. The store is fantastic, and I hope its always there. Any time Im in Bethesda, I stop in to pick up the latest items of interest and to talk to Joel about everything from how hes doing to the good old days of comic fandom, of which he was a part. Back in the day, Joel drew a cover for the ROCKETS BLAST COMICOLLECTOR, helped to organize the old Metro Con comic conventions here in Maryland with Gary Groth, and attended the 1968 Comic Con in New York organized by Phil Seuling. To everyone at Big Planet, keep up the great work, and I look forward to stopping in again sometime soon. - Joe B.
