Feel like reliving 2020 forever? Well they are still closed to the public. Did they consider we are all here for commencement and there may be sales to be had?
Great they have a lot of cool stuff.
They are very helpful and nice.
Very friendly. much nicer than expected
Probably the worst bookstore Ive ever had the misfortune of using. Rarely answer the phone to confirm or clarify orders. Financial aid didnt go through and no one bothered to return my calls or multiple emails for many weeks while trying to correct with debit card. Didnt get my lab kit or books for over halfway through the semester because I was living out of state and couldnt go up there at the time (Fall 2020). Ordered for curbside pickup this semester (Spring 2021). Followed app instructions for letting them know I had arrived and then waited for over 15 minutes. I call the number on the sign and they actually answer saying theyll be right out with my order. Twenty more minutes go buy and its now 10 minutes until the bookstore closes. Finally just go in the store and they realize someone took my order upstairs and left it on the counter. Only good thing I have to say is they everyone that works there is very nice when Im able to speak with them.
Good to have all language books
Extremely long shipping times (weeks long). Zero communication (phone number does infinite loop through options never connecting you). They do not respond to emails either. This is one of the lowest quality businesses I’ve ever supported and makes UAB in general look bad. I highly recommend avoiding this for your textbook needs. EBay or Amazon will be faster and less expensive. Oh yeah, and they actually have people who will respond to phone calls and emails. Also do not waste your time emailing the book store manager at [email protected] I am convinced this individual gets a full salary at UAB to do absolutely nothing. Must be a nice life.tl;dr 1/5, low quality service, poor communication, slow, expensive, eBay + amazon offer much better service for better price
Spring 2021I unfortunately made the mistake of ordering my textbooks through the bookstore. I ordered them online and set it to pick up in store. The day after I ordered, my card got charged almost 100$ more because they upgraded my textbooks to rented new. Failed to inform me of this decision, all the while their website still showing that rented used was still available. I ordered my books through another site. I also come to find out a week into classes that one of the books I ordered is recommended, not required. So I attempted to return it. They tell me if i want to return it I have to drop the class. Overall, I’ve never had a pleasant experience. Please use Chegg, they send you candy and Redbull.
A little pricey for a student on a tight budget but has all the UAB gear you could find
Rent your textbooks elsewhere. Ordered my textbook well before the semester started, but didnt receive it until a week after my first exam. Then when you have to return it, you are charged a fee for the return label. This might be fair if the price was cheaper than other stores, but its not. While I was waiting on my textbook to arrive I looked into other stores that had it for considerably cheaper. The university system is at it again taking every penny they can.
Do not rent textbooks from here. I rented over a month before classes started and they did not arrive in time. I ordered my books from Amazon and they were delivered the next day. I finally received the books from UAB Barnes and Noble a month after classes started, so I returned them immediately. Now it’s after the semester, and they’ve charged me over $100 because they “never received my rental return” at the end of the semester—even though I already returned the books as soon as I received them. Completely disorganized. Do not rent here.
I have been a UAB student for 4 years. I order my books from the bookstore as it is the only place I can use my scholarship to purchase books. Each semester there have been issues. My card used to hold rentals will be charged instead of my campus card and I have to go through the longgggg process of getting a refund. No matter how many weeks or months ahead of classes I order my books, they’re always late and my professors have to get me temporary access to compelte assignments. One semester they ordered the wrong access code and wouldn’t own up to their mistake or take refunds as we had already “broken the shrink wrap”. Thankfully my professor reached out to the supplier and they gave us the access code to the right book because we had already bought one of their products (for a higher price than the supplier sells it for, btw). They don’t answer calls and take weeks to respond to emails (unless a professor reaches out on your behalf). Finally received an email saying my books were in so I went to campus and waited in a line wrapped around the building for 50 minutes only to be told they “couldnt find it” and would email me when they locate my order. 9 weeks after ordering and I finally have my order. Even if you have scholarship money you can only use here, just pay out of pocket and buy from the supplier. It isn’t worth the stress and hassle.
Rented books from them during the Spring 2020 semester, AKA beginning of COVID closures. Called the store multiple times and sent several emails asking what to do with rental textbooks since they were closed. Never received a response. Then I was charged for the full price of the books as if I’d made no effort at all to return them, and the store refused to fix their mistake, even with proof of sent emails and call logs. Rent elsewhere. Chegg, Amazon, doesn’t matter—even if it costs more, they won’t take advantage of you at every opportunity for a buck like BNCollege will.
I bought a book digitally online that was supposed to come with an instant access code. I never received the email with the access code, but the $132 was taken from my account. It has been 5 days since i apparently was “refunded” my $132, yet the amount has not been placed back in my account. It is still processing according to them. The bookstore does NOT answer any phone calls or emails. Their customer service is terrible. If you need a pdf book with an access code, just buy the access code/pdf directly from the company website, NOT the bookstore.
I didnt go in it was curbside service they were quick and the young lady was very nice and courteous.
DO NOT order your textbooks from here. Your order will not be fulfilled until weeks after the day you initially pay. By the time my order was fulfilled, I no longer needed the textbooks for my courses and they refused to issue any sort of refund. Unacceptable.
UAB bookstore has extremely poor communication, follow-through, and does not serve the students of UAB well. I have had numerous issues with receiving course textbooks on time, being able to reach someone over the phone, or being notified of any issues with my order. If you are a student, save yourself a MASSIVE headache and order your books elsewhere.
If I could leave a lower ranking review I would. I ordered my textbooks on the first day of classes and now half way through the semester I have finally gotten them. It took them 4 weeks to send 2 of the books I ordered and another 2 for them to keep claiming my book was on backorder. When I emailed my professor to let him know that I couldnt stay in the class (a core class to my major) he emailed me and told me that they had several copies of the textbook available. They are so unconcerned with students that they are willing to be the reason that we have to drop classes. I will never purchase anything through them again and advise everyone to do the same.
I went to the student center. Closed if youre not a student per Covid
Do NOT order from here. I had needed textbooks for the semester and all but one became backordered. Not a single person picked up multiple calls and no response to multiple emails sent to cancel my order. Find your books cheaper at different outlets!
Terrible customer service is an understatement.Typically, I have good experiences or at the very least, dont feel insulted or as if I were treated badly. However, on my most recent visit today to return my books and my husbands, one of the register workers (Im unsure of her name, somewhat older woman) was blatantly mean and sarcastic towards me although I greeted her in a pleasant manner. This same person was also very rude to one of the other employees and I could see it faltered their demeanor some what too as they were not expecting to be met with such hostility for simply not knowing how to perform a certain function on the register system.I should preface this by saying that I had rented 2 books, one of which stayed shrink-wrapped and both staying in my home at all times as they were not needed in any classes I had on campus. As soon as I handed my books to turn in, I was met with a loud, snarky, Uh uh, this book has water damage. she then pointed at the book and said, This is fresh water damage. Confused, I explained I had never carried the books anywhere other than from the bookstore to my home the day I rented it. Never once were the books in my backpack or outside of my house. This was done to prevent any type of damage. She than began flipping through the pages indicating where she saw damage, all though I did not see any damage other than wear from previous renters (as I was renting a previously used book), I politely told her there was no way that any further damage had been caused because throughout the whole semester, I only used it a handful of times. She eventually took them without saying much else. We stood in silence for a moment before she looked at me and said, Well, Im waiting for a number. Embarrassed, I quickly gave her the number for the person I was returning books for. Then another moment of silence followed. She then loudly and rudely said, Okay now, 205 and what else? as if I hadnt told her and as if I was inconveniencing her. I repeated the number once more. She quickly grabbed the book from me and then without saying anything, handed me a receipt before turning and loudly saying NEXT. I have never experienced this kind of treatment before and was shocked and even hurt as I was very polite, taking time to ask how she was doing and trying to maintain eye contact. Im very disappointed in the treatment of the other employee as well. The person behind me need money back and the employee they were working with didnt know how to do this, she then politely told him he should go to one of the other women (one being the rude one working with me) and hearing this, the rude employee meanly said For what? Stammering, the young girl told her she didnt know how to and before she could quite finish her sentence she was cut off with a harsh Okay and? I can show you how to do it. Dont be sending people over here. I could see the girl feeling embarrassed and I so badly wanted to say something, but felt that I couldnt as she had already been rude to me and because I felt that it was not my place.I dont know if employees here arent trained properly, or if this certain person just did not care whether she was perceived well or not, but regardless, it makes the book store look bad and I hope I never find myself being in there the same time that she is. Her behavior was so poor that if I were to see her, I would probably leave and come back again some other time when shes gone to complete my business.
Wish I could give 0 stars. Terrible communication. I understand the circumstances but I have called multiple times, no answer and even had someone hang up on me, no responses from email at all.
The fact that it is nearly impossible to get someone to answer the phone along with responding to emails is beyond infuriating. You will be waiting weeks upon weeks for a response. I understand COVID’s impact but this is seriously unreal. Its a month later & half my books were shipped & no one wants to respond & answer why the other half wasn’t.
I ordered a couple of items on the online website, they confirmed my order, when I came to pick up the order they told me the items was out of stock, why they allowed me to place the order and get a confirmation number, and for my troubles they would not give me a discount to purchase other items for my inconvenience, I am shocked the UAB bookstore is so unorganized, I will never buy anything from this bookstore..
Conveniently located on Campus. Great selection of UAB branded apparel and other items.
Not open to the public.
I rented textbooks for the summer semester & printed the label they sent & had them shipped out on the 13th. I have a receipt & it said the books were delivered on the 14th, now Im getting emails stating they didnt receive them & Ill be charged. Ive tried to call multiple times, but theres no answer & I email & get no response, even though it says theyre open.
UAB Bookstore now has online ordering- WHICH DOESNT WORK. I ordered my books online, used the new app they suggested and waited an hour in the parking lot over an hour and nothing happened. I called the bookstore and they acknowledged I arrived, 45 minutes later nothing changed. Im still waiting in the parking lot and one of the workers noticed me sitting in the book store pick up parking space nearly asleep from sitting there nearly two hours and the kind young man asks for my order information and within 10 minutes comes back with my order. Next semester I may need to bring a tent and grill, maybe even a bullhorn while I wait for my books from employees that prioritize shirt orders over getting my >$500 worth of books that I have to order there because the university makes it impossible to pass classes without buying access codes to online websites because the instructors are too lazy to teach.
Prices are extremely high
The UAB bookstore has a wide selection of spirit gear. Yet, the price that is listed on the item is not its actual price. On 2 separate occasions I have been price gouged by the registers. Always buy in store because the only prices are not accurate and have been raised. Yet, when the issue is brought up to the staff they were more than happy to refund me my over charge. When you shop here you shop at your own risk. So watch the registers like a hawk.
Sincerely the worst way you can get your textbooks. Picking them up on campus isn’t worth the hassle of desperately trying to get them to just give you the books they’re supposed to provide. This semester, they were missing *four* of the books I needed for class, and have only gotten some of those in due to my professor calling and emailing them endlessly (and even then, they didn’t order enough for the whole class). One semester, they provided half of my class with the wrong edition of the book entirely. That semester, the professor gave up and canceled half the readings. They don’t care about the students.
They keep emailing me saying i have an overdue textbook but i didnt even get any textbooks this last semester that werent from amazon. Everytime i call to figure out what book they are talking about, theres no answer. Smh
This is one of the worst customer service I have been to. First, I preorder my book a month before school starts because my classes tend to sell out of books. First couple of weeks of school, they were on back order. No big deal, sometimes the publisher doesn’t produce enough books and that’s not the bookstores fault. Then half of the book order came in, yet I still haven’t gotten my book. I have a friend who ordered it the week during school get it for me. Now was frustrating for me because what’s the actual point of buying it online before school starts if I get it after the people who buy it during the week of school. Ask for my money back. Got a return receipt. It’s been 12 business days and still don’t have my money back. I called them back and ask where my money is and the lady says “oh they didn’t do the return right so you’re gonna have to wait another 10 business days to get it back”. I’m not even sure if I’m gonna actually get my money back in ten business days.
Terrible service. Should not be allowed to charge you more money without your permission to get a book. I usually try to ask for used copies, but would always be charged more because I was forced to get a new copy instead since they had run out against my consent.
I tried to order textbooks online before the start of the spring semester. The order was placed, and I received a confirmation email that they received my order. I waited for them to send me an email that the order was ready. About a month later I still hadnt received the books, so I went to see what the problem was. They told me that the order had been cancelled because of a problem with the card that I used to pay. They had never called or emailed me to let me know that they cancelled my order, so I waited for a month over an order that had been silently cancelled weeks prior. I cant even name how many assignments I have missed because they didnt tell me about the problem. I am very angry with the current bookstore, and they need to get better immediately or I will never shop there again.
Overcharged by $20 on an access code, waited two months for a sweatshirt on backorder that I purchased on sale and then they turn around an charge me full price, never shopping at the bookstore again. Go buy textbooks used on Amazon and purchase access codes directly through the website you’ll be using. Don’t even have dry erase markers when they sell whiteboards.
The only way they will let you in is you are a student
I ordered a shirt a week ago to represent UAB now that Im adjuncting there, and it hasnt shipped yet. Emails, social message/comments, phone calls go unanswered. So far as I know, theyre open! I dont understand the lack of communication.
Great!
They never respond to you, I got charged a late fee for not returning a book, but I messaged them before the date asking what book it was because I thought I purchased all of them and the email did not say which specific book it was. I never received a response. And every time I try to call the bookstore, no one ever picks up the phone.
I have had multiple problems with this place. One time, they tried charging me for a book that I had never gotten. It took forever to make them search their logs and not charge me. The people who work there are nice and do their best with what they are given. However, the manager is so rude and never answers the phone.
Closed now but a great place to go
Some of the customer service reps are ridiculously unacceptable and rude. The lady I encountered also tried to tell me all the information I did not ask for instead of assisting me with the information I requested. When people run into these type of issues one would rather purchase elsewhere instead of supporting the schools bookstore.
Very helpful.
Since they departed from Snoozys, this place went downhill very fast. The people are very rude, its hard to find certain things, and prices are beyond ridiculous. Ill gladly wait a week for something to arrive from other sites instead of shop here. Its no wonder theyre never crowded when I walk by.
The bookstore is usually out of the book I need. I order a book for a 7 week course, before the course started, and I didnt receive in until 4 weeks into the course. Even more frustrating, Ive been told dates that I could sell my books back, have walked across campus to do so, and then have been told I couldnt sell them back yet, but the employees also couldnt give me a date that they knew of when I could. Just seems completely disorganized. Now that Snoozys is no longer an option, its a shame I forced to spend my money here.
The UAB Bookstore’s handling of the COVID-19 restrictions has been absolutely horrendous. The line wrapped from the outside of the building to the far corner of the street. I stood in direct sunlight for over 45 minutes only to wait in two more lines so I could get one book. Worse than the DMV. Just buy your books online.
Since the first week of the semester, a book I needed for class was placed on the back order list. They told all the students we should receive the book between the dates of October 1st-12th. Never received any email updates from them, no one called from the bookstore updating me on my book. I called the bookstore every month asking where my book was, how much longer and the same response “it should be arriving next week” or “it still has not been ordered yet.” Come to find out after thanksgiving break is when my book has been in the bookstore. No one called, no email updates, nothing. They wouldn’t even let me sell it back, knowing GI paid for the cost of that book i never got to use. Never have any issues with the bookstore, everyone in there has been nice and helpful at times, but this is ridiculous. If the GI didn’t cover the cost of my books, i would be buying books elsewhere.
Everyone who works here is helpful. They didnt have a section with journals. They do have headphones, but only earbuds $10-$20. Store was clean and well-lit.
Every time I try to order items online they are always on back order. It would help if this is stated on the page when ordering so you can decide to wait or proceed. The email communication is not good. I have call the bookstore twice to check on my cancellation email that they said they sent to me and I have not received the email yet. I’m done with ordering online from this place....so frustrating.
Buy books through Amazon. Very high prices and they try their best NOT to buy your books back. Plus their window for buying books back is extremely small and confusing adding to the layer of selling your books back. They also once listed the wrong book for my class and wouldnt buy it back because they said the edition had changed.
Good but bit expensive
Beware, get your books from anywhere else other than here. The prices are sky high and they will do everything they can to not buy your books back. If youre lucky, theyll give you 2-3% of your purchase price, how generous. They will then rent that book to the next person, and count down the days until they can stick you with a late fee or charge you for the book. Also, they will not send a reminder via email/text even though they say they will, just be diligent and put it on your calendar. Also the employees are completely clueless and disrespectful, for the most part. There are a few decent humans that work there but you will have to look for them. Avoid this place like the plague, it is by far one of the worst parts of the UAB experience other than parking and Legion Field.
This one of the worst places Ive been. The line is always long with not enough people argue register to check out customers. There are plenty of registered available. Dont come here if you are in a rush.
Worthless establishment with a staff that can’t do anything. Snoozy’s could run circles around the official UAB Bookstore. It’s so sad Snoozy’s is no longer around.
Mainly carries school textbooks, with a relatively small selection of books otherwise. Not a full-function B&N outlet. Good selection of school supplies.
The workers messed up my order and then charged my credit card $430 in addition to what they took from my BlazerBucks. I spoke to a manager who was rude and refused to reimburse MY money even though it was their screw up!! Buy your books from Amazon or whatever website. This place is a scam and not worth the headache.
Great staff, but site says they were open Saturday from 10-2, I drive down there on my lunch break... closed.
Good place to grab a bag of chips and a drink if youre in a hurry, but dont buy your books here. Overpriced, slow to ship and they are always out of stock of the books I need.
This is a terrible business and they do not care about their customers. GO TO SNOOZYS IF YOU WANT HELP. I tried to return something and they refused to help me, because it was a few days after their accepted return date. Even though Snoozys return policy is much more forgiving and would have let me return it. You will find almost nobody on campus that likes the UAB bookstore more than Snoozys and now I know why. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!
Not sure why they aren’t open the week before classes start for Spring semester.
Management wont listen to complaints and blames the customer, even though they had wrongly signed me up for a subscription and refused to believe my complaints. And to sign me up for that subscription, they had to hold my credit card info... Ill stick to Amazon from now on.
The bookstore has a very helpful staff and great service.
Great selection, friendly staff that often meets you at the door to assist, avid supporter of UAB Athletics.
Online orders are a pain -- avoid at all costs. They dont charge you until theyve shipped it out and you dont know when that will happen, even after youve placed an order. Forget calling because they either dont have voicemail or they will just hang up on you. For the amount of money that these books and access codes cost, the service is WAY lacking.
Standard university bookstore. Everything is overpriced including the textbooks.
I didnt find the store .someone help me please
UAB is the best University in the state of Alabama!
Great customer service
Very helpful staff
Good but expensive
Closed for demolition!!
