Service was great and pricing was very honest. I took in a 20+ yr-old bike which needed - I thought - a complete overhaul. Mark managed to bring it back to life and it now works like a new one for only a fraction of what I thought it would cost! Glad to see small shops like these still exist and Ill make sure to spread the word! Thank you Mark!
My family has been buying bikes here for 3 generations. It goes without saying that theres a solid reason for it: amicable service, peerless knowledge and price points for every buyer. But, mostly, their family honestly, truly, cares about yours. Thanks for everything! Cheers
Amazing service. Kind considerate and conscientious. Would recommend for all your bike needs.
Absolutely the best and most reasonably priced cycle shop around. Ive been going here since the beginning of the pandemic. They were one of the only ones opened and taking biked for repair at the time. Ive had my bike serviced multiple times including small repairs like flat tires. They always are fast, friendly, and thorough. I will absolutely purchase a new bike from them this year as well. I wont even consider going anywhere else for anything bike related. The owner is a prince in my opinion. He works hard, really knows his stuff, contends with a lot, and has a great crew. Couldnt be happier or more thankful for every dealing and interaction Ive ever had there.
This all has to be prefaced with the fact that i have been getting my bicycle tuned up at Brookdale cycle since 1985, thats 35 years ago! Is there a better testament to artisan and journeyman workmanship than time? Just the best service in this narrow field...can you find another place like this, without an obscene wait for service? I have called Mark at 4pm on a Saturday, out on my bike, with a broken spoke and the response I get is bring it in, an hour before closing at the end of the week, and the spoke is repaired and magnificently the wheel is balanced (try doing this yourself, and see the value of these guys); customer / service provider relationships go both ways, if I see the repair room is stacked with bikes, I try to figure a good day to bring the bike in for a repair, early in the day, midweek...I always make a semi appointment with Mark; I have never been disappointed. do BigBox retailers even offer bike repair services? and I have walked those bike department isles, the supply is no where near the quality you are getting at Brookdale cycle; if you are a serious rider, this is the place to get fitted for a bike, its like a tailor, those guys are a dying breed too, the bike has to fit your environment...lots of potholes in essex county, I needed a bike that was fast, balanced, and could take road punishment, good on turns, corner sharp. If your bike is always going out of wheel balance, you need to bulk up to a bike that can handle these roads...i used to live in new york city, and there were these six bike shops in lower Manhattan that all merged, and its quite a mark up in price in wonderful Manhattan. This is the place in essex county to get repairs and get custom tailored bicycle solutions! - enzo d, newark college of engineering, class of 1993
Excellent service.. they fixed up my bike quick and for a reasonable price.. family operated.. support local business!! Great quality work and customer service.. totally recommend
Great store! owner was knowledgeable, helpful and so nice when we were trying to figure out what bikes to get. it was great supporting a local business!
Amazing bike shop will return there for all of my bike needs, super friendly, and they know what theyre talking about. They tuned my new bike faster than I expected, 107% would recommend.
Best customer service! I was looking for a used boys bike and despite being very busy the staff found an affordable 20 bike that I scooped rightup. Thanks to Brookdake cycle staff You Made a 9 year olds vacation the Best ever.
I bought my bike on Amazon and the staff assembled all the parts together. They were very professional and diligent. Also, the owner is so professional and he really does care about the customers. I go there whenever I need a quick fix on my bike.
Quick and easy experience for myself and my son. We got all our questions answered and purchased a great bike within 30 mins.Thank you!
Love this shop ! I tell everyone I know about this guy 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😩 Great service !
I started cycling about 3-4 months ago -- after my initial bike essentially fell apart, I brought it in to Mark and from the beginning he was extremely honest with what work would be needed. Instead, I traded in the bike and he gave me a beautiful vintage road bike for a VERY fair price. Today I went back to Brookdale Cycle to grab a bike rack, something I knew very little about. Not only did he come out to my car to make sure the bike rack was compatible, but he very quickly installed it! Ill forever be going to Brookdale Cycle and would recommend the same for anyone else who who is either looking to buy a bike, need a repair, or need some type of accessory.
Went in to look at tires and get a rim strip and the rim strip the guy gave me is for a 700cc tire not the 26, wayyy too big. Not worth driving back for the $5 he charged for the $1 part. Tried shopping local, Ill just order online from now on.
I think I have found my new local bike shop.Came in today because I am leaving on a trip tomorrow to bike with friends and I needed my tore up bike fixed a bit (air in the tires) and apparently it needed more than that - needed a new gear shift entirely and something that goes around the wheels replaced. I came in at around 3 PM and they close at 6. The guy was at first unsure if hed be able to do the work today but then mentioned hed be willing to stay a little while after closing to make sure Id have the bike back same day. Already, I was more than pleased. He told me to just come back later after hed give me a call. Turns out he ended up calling within the hour to say the work was done before their closing time. I returned, he suggested a kickstand so I added that, paid, and had my bike back ship shape and its ready for the weekend. He clearly prioritized my bike.Superior service. I will definitely be back.
Beautiful Man Very humble and nice gives you everything you need and affordable prices and the beauty his continuing his father legacy of bikes and that is gold I recommend it
I brought a Streetrider. Mark offered to have it shipped directly to him and he put it together for me. Great Customer Service.
I went earlier today with my husband and we happily left with a beautiful bike . We are very happy, and i didnt ask their names but they are extremely nice! Amazing customer service they were super friendly and helpful. They were even about to close and still as people came in they very nicely helped them instead of rejecting them . The younger guy who i wish i knew his name, was so nice to even help us safely tie our bike in our trunk and made sure it was safe for us to drive off! Highly highly recommend . Excellent service, super nice friendly and helpful and also very nice bikes! Thank you guys so much we really appreciate the great service and love our new bike ❤️
Decent selection of womens cycles at the moment
Younger guy running the shop helped straighten out my toddler’s stroller having been bent at the rims. Straightened out the wheels real quick and easy and didn’t ask for a cent! Huge favor ! Thanks a million sir!
Very helpful in answering any questions. Mark the owner was very pleasant and patient. He even allowed us to test the bikes before we bought them.
I would love to recommend local places, however, my recommendation is for you to go somewhere else. I brought my brand new bike in for a tune up. I was never told there was noise and a shifting issue, but was charged (more than what was discussed) without anyone telling me of this issue. Only until I sent them a video 15 mins after I left with my biked, the owner admitted that he heard it too and tried to make adjustments. While he did refund me the total tune up, my issue isn’t the money. He withheld this information hoping I wouldn’t notice.I would have given 3 stars due to the owner taking full accountability and discussing it with me in a calm and professional way. However, the young teenager in the back wasn’t too thrilled with the feedback of “you should let people know if you plan to charge more and if you heard a noise, you shouldn’t have done any work without communicating it with me.” The immature and unprofessional teenager with the drill took it personally, and decided to react. I would still recommend that this shop tell people they hear noises and something isn’t shifting correctly. I mean, it is a bike shop...I’m bringing my bike to you to fix, not damage.
Great bike shop! Run by great people that genuinely care about the customers and services they provide. As a customer from Australia I have had to have things shipped and these guys have never let me down🤙🏼Thanks for everything Mark Noble
I was there for a quick tube replacement. Awesome service. They were open the day after 4th of July on a Sunday.
My family has been going to Brookdale cycle for generations. They have always given exemplary, personalized service at a reasonable price. 5 stars!
Very nice people the older gentleman was so helpful and let us take our time selecting a BMX bike for our 14 yr old boy.. too bad he was out of stock for adult bikes we def go back to buy more bikes
Great bicycle shop with large selection of bikes and accessories at very reasonable prices. Most importantly, Mark will competently make repairs and adjustments quickly. He has years of experience ensuring you will be riding a reliable safe bicycle. He is there making sure you stay happy after you make your purchase in months and years ahead.
I called to see if they had 3 types of brand name bikes before coming into the store. Before I even finished my 2nd out of 3 request, whoever answered the phone told me no and hung up.I would think that during COVID time, and having businesses shut down for so long, you would want to make a sale if someone is asking what you have in your inventory.I was very disappointed as I’ve been in retail for many years, and this type of customer service is unacceptable. You don’t have inventory, there’s a way to go about it. Or at least intent to make a sale and help a potential customer out. But flat NO and then hang up, is unacceptable!!!!I’ll take my business elsewhere thank you very much!
Called ahead to Volataire Cycles/Electric Spokes to ask if they could fix a flat for my six yr old and they said yes. Got there, one couple inside so I waited outside. Someone came out and said it was a 2 min fix but that he had to ask his manager. Then I was turned away by they were “totally slammed” - yet, although there was only one other couple in the store and my whole experience was almost 20 mins.Anyway, I called Brookdale Cycle immediately after and asked if they could save the day. Got there 10 mins later. The bike was fixed in 5 and my daughter is a happy girl!Thank you Brookdale Cycle!!!!! I will definitely go straight to you going forward!! Thank you for carina d being awesome!!!
Brookdale Bike very good ppl help when they didnt have time they made the time and did a good job
The kid who works on the bikes is awesome. Its a great bike shop.
I wish I read some of the other negative reviews before buying a Groupon for Brookdale cycle. To keep it short, I bought a Groupon and called several times and was told they were too busy to take my certificate for a tune-up. I called three times and each time they told me to wait 2-3 weeks. Months later, the Groupon is going to expire so I decided to go to the shop after they would not answer the phone. Once they were done arguing with another customer over the price quoted on a bike sale, the owner told me that they can’t honor my voucher. I told them I would be willing to leave it and wait a while and they told me to they had too much “real business” and to contact Groupon to get my money back. Groupon will not give me my money back but instead “Groupon Bucks” to use for a future purchase.I fully understand they are very busy with spring tune-ups but they sold me a certificate and refused to honor it after leading me on that they would. The owner was rude and unapologetic; his solution to contact Groupon for a refund should have been suggested back in early March when I called to schedule the tune-up.
Great store that I hope will be serving the community for many more years to come.Super helpful, great value, great hours.Thank you !
I recently sold someone a bike that only needed a new tube and was apprehensive after he told me he was bringing it there to check it out knowing all the times he has over charged me and everyone else in the Brookdale area for decades and likes to up sell unnecessary repairs but he wasnt convinced and paid for stuff the bike didnt need and He is happy for it so I guess thats all that matters.
Amazing service !! They filled 3 of my bike tires at no charge and the owner found me a used bike rack and gave me a great price for it !! I’m a single mom of 4 kids I really appreciate the kindness and affordability !! So glad I could help support a local business in my town !
As a former employee and current customer I can tell you this is a great place to purchase bicycles, parts and get service. Its a family owned business for over 60 years and you get the service you would expect from a small business. The owner is knowledge is all aspects of bicycle repair. They also sell bike racks for cars, helmets, and all other associated bike accessories. My parents bought be my first bike here and soon I will be purchasing my daughters first bike here.
Nice service 👍
Great experience here and fantastic prices!!!! I got a WAY better deal on a bike then at a box store and it was FAR better quality. The owner let me test out different bikes and made all the adjustments so it was the perfect bike. He also didn’t upsell or convince me I needed some super fancy. I was so pleased at how reasonable the bike was. He also offers complimentary service on the bike for the first year too so if needs to be tightened or tuned it can be. So nice to go in to a place and get good service, a quality product, and great prices.
This is an honest store and small town feel from the old days.
I came in with the intent to buy and wasnt disappointed. Chris is as friendly and knowledgeable a salesperson as they come. Learning about my cycling needs, he had me test ride two models and never tried to upsell me. I left having purchased a bicycle and quite a few accessories. This is not an intimidating place to shop and Ive already recommended Brookdale Cycle to three people.
Stopped in to get my tires checked out. the gentleman working was so nice and patient in explaining why I might have been experiencing the problems Ive been having with my tires. He checked everything out, topped both tires off and tightened some parts for me. Purchased a new pump, which he also set up for me with the right valves, and didnt charge for the quick checkup. Great service and nice to support the local shops. Will likely purchase my next bike from there!
Mark and his team at the cycle shop are fantastic and they have been satisfying customers since the 1960s. In business you dont stay around that long if you not treating customers like family and providing superior services. It is unfortunate that the one or two feedbacks were negative. It is obviously a cheap person(s) that does not want to pay for parts or service or quality work. If a couple of dollars is an issue for these people then they should stick to walking.
Highly recommended! Affordable, quick and amazing costumer service.
Expert service! If your bike needs service, there is no one better. Terrific prices!
Over 20 years using this shop. Good service, fair price, customer support and deals. Location is nice;near park.
Thank you guys, very nice service !!!
Awesome bike shop. I brought my vintage schwinn road bike here after being told what I wanted was impossible at another bike shop. Mark is extremely competent and experienced. He hooked my bike up in a few hours and had me back on my bike in no time!
This store charged me $33 for a tube change ( and tightening a screw and putting lube oil on the chain ), this same service would have cost less than half any other place .I walk in and the person very politely said it will take couple of minutes. ( it probably took him no more than 10-15 mins to tend to my bike)Like many other hardworking bike shops do, he should give an upfront estimate of his labor cost rather than misleading by saying it will take couple of minutes and then overcharging after the fact. I noticed some other customers reviews also complaining about this .Dont waste money by going to this shop ; there are many better option in this area.
Super friendly, knowledgable, and resourceful. I rode my bike in to get a new brake assembly. After I had purchased what I needed, the owner told me pull my bike in and he helped me install my new parts on the spot. Great place, highly recommended
Been going here since my first bike. Same guys still there. All the staff are knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, etc. Very professionally run and good prices. Good advice, too. I go out of my way to keep going here.
A great local bike shop thats been around forever. Always helpful, always fair prices.
Took my Bianchi Road bike for a service after 6 months in storage, the chain and derailleur were caked so much in grease you couldnt even shift. The service had it riding like brand new and I had the bike back within a few hours. Great service and a good price would highly recommend
Came in to get my tires filled up with air and one of the guys also fixed my seat without me asking and didnt expect any payment. Very nice guys!
Buyer should be careful. A while ago, I went to brookdale cycle to repair a brake. A shop person seemed very nice and helpful. He also offered to fix other small things in a very kind manner, he said that those are potentially dangerous. I said OK. In retrospect, I shouldve asked him about the labor cost. After the work is done, When I saw the invoice, it was $190 including labor. I bought this bike for $200, and it was ridiculous. He insisted that I had to pay, because I said OK. I ended up paying, because i felt bad as he seemed such a nice person. In retrospect, I shouldnt have, because he never mentioned the cost before fixing. Anyway, if you have to fix something, ask him how much it would cost including the labor. Do not assume anything, as even the small parts may cost >$100 but the shop behaves like its $10.
The owner of this bike shop is not to be trusted. I brought in my bicycle to Brookdale Cycle for a tune up, they told me that I needed new tires and tape on the handle bar, they gave me a vague quote of $40 for this, $30 for that and sent me off believing the total quote was approximately $70. Three days later when they called me to notify that the bike was ready, they told me that they decided to replace some other parts and now the final bill will be $250 - I was very surprised by this because I never agreed to this additional work. When I showed up to pick up the bicycle, the bill had grown to $270 (likely due to taxes). It was probably clear to them that I do not know much about bicycles, so they saw an opportunity to take advantage, by pressuring me into paying more than we agreed. When the owner saw that I was paying cash, he offered not to charge me taxes, as a sly way of closing this deal.I learned two lessons: First, always read the reviews online because I now see that Tejas, Jason, Donuts_Tv, Joe and Jersey all had this same experience at Brookdale Cycle. The second lesson is, do not do business with Brookdale Cycle.
I had a flat inner tube and I have called him over the phone to see how much the repair would be and he said no more then $15. So I brought it in later the fee came out to $35 it was $20 over. Dont come here if you are looking for honest work and pricing.
Fantastic service here. I have several bikes, the oldest was purchased in 1976. (If only I had my Schwynn Continental from 1963). Whenever anything goes wrong, they fix it in short order. Yesterday, on the way to work a spoke broke. In less than 100 feet, before figuring out what was going on, the spoke caused a flat and the wheel got out of balance. On Friday before Memorial Day weekend, the place was manned by the owner who had several customers, but he was able to have me taken care of within 20 minutes.Whether you need repairs or a new bike - this place is GREAT!!
Cant say enough great things about this place! Great service and prices for kids and adult bikes.
Thank you Mark for helping me choose a great bike and being so friendly and patient with me... 😉LOLI want to wish you and your family Happy Holidays!!!☺
Very friendly and helpful. Excellent selection of bicycles of all sizes.
Excellent service!
The brake job was good and the service timely. But over the phone he quoted me about 15 dollars labor but charged me 25.Overall dissatisfied.
I really like to support local business, but I had a bad experience here. Purchased a used bike for my son and paid a fair price. I genuinely thought the owner was a nice down to earth guy. When we were buying here he was very personable. But...then we decided to get our 3 bikes tuned up. Big mistake. As I was asking the cost of the many suggestions made by the salesperson(many unessecary for function), they were verbally quoting the cost for just the parts. When I received the bill, it was apparently necessary to use different items that cost more and now were double and triple my expectations when labor was added. Some repairs were charged for things they could not fix, like my wife detailer. I spent about $350 to tune 3 used bikes, one of which would not shift correctly. But there was no phone call to let us know this, or a suggested replacement part. Best part is they didnt even tell us they couldnt fix the shifting when I came for pick up.We paid and only found out as we rode off to check how our bikes rode. Took my wifes bike right back, tried getting the owners attention, and there was huge attitude toward me. As if I had some nerve to expect to get what I thought I paid for. It was apparently my fault for buying used bikes by the way.....then why suggest the services? True, I only paid about $400 for the 3 bikes to begin with, but I certainly did not want to pay $750 for 3 used bikes, one of which didt work with a few shiney bottle holders and a few bigger reflectors pasted on. They did not show me at least...any accountability.I agree with some of the other posters....make sure you get an itemized service bill beforehand for parts and labor...or see if there is somewhere that is more consistent with service.
Awesome customer service 👍 and excellent bikes
I love this place, very acknowledges and professional, I will recommend to anyone
If it were possible to give 0 stars I wouldve, I do all repairs by myself and I get the parts at my local shop, but I was riding with my girlfriend and got a flat on a Wednesday so the closest open shop was this place, i went on and they were nice but one thing wasnt nice, they charge 10 bucks plus tax!!!!!!!, amazon sells it for 6, a shop in Montclair sells it for 7 and so does the shop in Nutley, it is the same tube for 3-4 dollars more, I dont get how they can live with themselves knowing they over charge their customers, I will not suggest them to anyone, even if it is the last bike on the earth and had to get fixed, abs they were the only shop,,,,,,,, wed be walking
Helpful and curtious .
Very friendly and helpful shop, good selection.
They always provide great service.
Incredibly nice and effective
Horrible customer service
I have to take my bike in here so much
Extremely friendly, helpful and nice. If I need to repair my bike or get advice I wouldnt go anywhere else.
Very friendly and helpful
My family has been purchasing here for as long as we (i.e. nieces, nephews, grandkids) have been cycling.
I ride my bike a lot and get flat tires i come in here a lot and the day after the tire gets fixed it blows up of goes flat this has happend 2 times
Great service and quick
Excellent experience.
On the sport repairs, family business, great experience!
Friendly and helpful staff went in with a cog that was stuck and he was able to take it out with no issue after a different shop told me it was impossible to remove that cog.
I be loving my Fuji Two.5,,,I got the hook up with lights and sounds,,,,if you hit me at night youre drunk,,,,,thanks again guys,,be seeing you soon
Poor customer service, has a attitude problem.
I went to have my electric bicycle repaired but I did not have any solution, my on and off motor had been damaged and the left hand brake simply put a regular brake on it but they seem to have forgotten that it was electric and bone the same as I have nothing stored here and without being able to use it
