Gordon had ford parts and was able to have them within s week. Even the Ford dealership couldnt get the part for 3 months due to a backup on that part. Thanks Gordon

Took a 2001 Suzuki RM125 cylinder to them to have a sleeve installed. Was Told their turn around time was 1 week. (That’s why I chose them) 2 weeks later I call for a progress report and they said they were waiting on valve guides. And I reminded them that 2 strokes do not have valves. Should have picked my parts up right then and there. Another week goes by and I get the same runaround. On the 4th week they inform me when I call that they did not have a mill small enough to mill the cylinder and had to send it out to an another shop. I got mad and reminder them that it had been 4 weeks and gave them 3 days to get the job done. When I called 3 days later it was still not done. But would have it done that afternoon . Now for the bad part. I show up to pick it up and look at the workmanship I can see that the sleeve had been installed incorrectly and the intake, exhaust, and transfer ports did not line up correctly. I showed them the problem and they said that it would run fine. OMG. I was dumbfounded. It would probably have ran, but like an old Jonny popper John deer tractor.I did not want to pay them for anything. But we agreed that I would pay what it cost them for what the other shop charged them for the mill work. Now 5 weeks later I get to take it to Horsepower farms in Benson who has ALWAYS done awesome work for me to see if they can fix Gordon’s screw up. I will never do business with Gordon’s again and if your smart you won’t either.

Family run and family owned for years and years, Johnsons is THE place to take your work. They do quality work, cut no corners, and at a lower price than you’ll find at many other machine shops in the area. They have been nothing but nice and got my job done right on time even helping advise me on installation and answering my miscellaneous questions. Don’t even bother checking out other shops, take your business here.

I really wanted to trust Gordon Johnson with my engine. I had gone to another engine shop before going to Gordon’s shop in bountiful. And the other shop didn’t own up to their mistakes with the bore and hone job they did. I went to Gordon and he assured me that that wouldn’t happen at his shop and that they “wouldn’t give me the run around” like that other shop I had gone to. He also knew my grandpa and said he respected him a great deal. I felt really at peace knowing that Gordon’s shop was going to take care of me.I brought my engine to them and all the parts with it as well as the engine rebuild kit I had purchased and some re-machined heads. Gordon quoted me for 1000$ to finish the job which I was happy to pay in full faith knowing his many years of experience. In the process of working on my engine he said that the heads needed to be leveled and had some work done to them. As well as he needed the harmonic balancer which I had accidentally left behind at my garage. I went and got the harmonic balancer and took it in to him and he said it was good and we could still use it. But that the work on the heads was going to cost another 900$ (which I was totally fine with even though it was much more than originally quoted). So now I’m 1900$ into this rebuild and I’m extremely excited to have a newly rebuilt engine. When I finally get the engine back a month after I was told it would be done I spent countless hours getting the engine back into my Van and getting it all connected back up only to find that one of the bolts to the harmonic balancer had been stripped out and that he had put a different harmonic balancer in because he had lost the one I gave him and charged me 75$ for it. I had to rethread the screw (really dishonest that they didn’t tell me). I then continued on to connect the rest of the components. I go to add coolant to the radiator and next thing I hear is coolant coming out the bottom of the engine on the ground. They hadn’t put the plugs in the bottom of the engine. So I got plugs from auto zone.Next I started up the engine, before I know it I’m having oil dripping out the bottom of my “rebuilt engine”. Extremely confused and even more frustrated I climb under the vehicle and find that the oil filter mounting plate had been put on backwards? Like really? for a company that’s been in business for 52 years you’d expect them to do a job right the first time.Right when the engine got to temperature coolant started leaking out of the back of my right head. The same heads that I had paid 900$ to have worked on. As well as having coolant coming out of the intake manifold because it had not been torqued to spec. This was now aggravating. But I kept my composure and reached out to Gordon’s shop. Gordon assured me that they would make it right. He had one of his guys come over and work to see if he could help us on the engine. A process that turned in to a 2 MONTH battle in which promise were made on working on the engine and he wouldn’t show. And made promise to take parts of the engine to their shop but would then leave out of town.I reached out to Gordon and explained that at this point I had wasted countless hours of putting in and taking out the engine. Wasting oil and coolant that had gotten into the Cylinders due to a poor rebuild. And really just losing all confidence in the machine shop as a whole due to the lack of priority I had after paying all up front and not receiving the work that had been promised.I asked simply for a refund for all the money that was wasted on a service that was never received. He refused and said that I would have to give him my engine in order to be refunded. The engine that I paid for all the parts for before taking down to his shop. This was obviously extremely unethical and not what I expected from someone who is so well known in the community. The truth of the matter is he did not own up to the work that his machine shop had done. I just asked to give back money for the work that was not done right over the course of 5 months after he said it would be.

It was hard for me to trust Gordon. I was quoted $1,900 for an engine rebuild with about a week wait.Gordon picked up my engine from my house and said hed keep in touch with any updates. After 5 days of not hearing anything I decided to stop by the shop. When I pulled up my engine was in the back of Gordons truck, uncovered with debris on it. I asked about this and was told that they had been busy with another car but would get to it that day.I waited three days after this before I called the shop back. Gordon said the engine was going to cost $3,200 and that the parts would need to be ordered. I reminded him of the earlier quote he gave me when picking up the engine. I was told that quote wasnt going to fix everything that needed to be done. I questioned if the engine had been taken apart to know exactly what needed to be replaced to which Gordon said it hadnt been worked on or checked. I asked Gordon if he could do an itemized breakdown of the parts and labor. He agreed and said he would give me a call the next day with the exact breakdown of why it would cost so much. The next day I hadnt heard from Gordon by 3:00pm. I called him to be told that he hadnt had time to write the quote up. At this point I was finished. I told him I was going to order an engine from NAPA and that I would be coming to pick up the engine from him. To which he replied, You know I can match NAPAs prices. I was stupid and said okay but that Id need it in writing. Reluctantly he said he could but that he wouldnt be at the shop only his son Michael would. I drove to the shop but found that the written quote was $190 more than the price we had agreed to on the phone.I was floored! I said that I wanted the engine back and that I wasnt going to do business with them. After paying $100 holding fee I had my engine back.Gordon seems like a good intentioned guy. But the procrastination and no set prices made me feel like he was ripping me off.

I had my cylinder head resurfaced here. It cost a little more than what I was told, but I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up that same evening, overall, I am pleased with my experience- the machinist is also very helpful
