My wife and I had been traveling for about week when our transmission went out. We were referred to Auto Stop by a local. When you are from out of town and in a bad spot you are at the mercy of people in the area. Long story short these guys were great! They did not just blow us off and the owner even offered us lunch. They worked with us to find a solution to our problem. The owner said they were booked out for 3 or more weeks and was not sure when he could fit us in. He referred us to other shops in the area and we were running into the same thing. Chris one of the mechanics offered to do it over the weekend so we could get back on the road. Chris is a good honest hard worker. He did a thorough job. He noticed that my belts were cracked and before replacing them he had contacted us to confirm we were wanting the additional work done. When I went down to pick up our truck Chris had showed me the worn out parts that were replaced and before leaving we went for a test drive. I felt confident that we would be able to continue with our trip. Thank you Auto Stop and thank you Chris for sacrificing your Saturday.

Alright, this Father and Son team are something else and have hearts of gold. Let me paint a quick story for y’all. It’s the evening of July 3rd and it’s just about closing time when some dude wearing a hoodie with the sleeves cut off shows up to the shop. Well I expected to be told that they didn’t have anything in stock and all the parts stores were already closed for the weekend. I’d been driving from Billings to Missoula and a hose that connected my water pump to heater core burst effectively stranding my family and me in Bozeman. Well, they took the time and delayed their weekend plans to help me cobble together a fix that got me to my destination. The men who helped me that night were an answer to a prayer and though I don’t know about normal pricing I can say that they did me a great service and got me back on the road and I cannot recommend them enough. Based on character alone they are the people to go to. God bless.

I took my VW Jetta here to be looked at when my sensors started lighting up. They got me in fairly soon and not only did they fix all my concerns, they also did a little extra for me. Not only that, they did everything for less than what Volkswagen was going to charge me for diagnostics alone.I was thoroughly impressed by them and now everything is running smoothly in my car.

Auto Stop is absolutely a great place to work with and I only wish they were located in our state! We had a problem with our RV on our way to a wedding in Idaho. Over-priced, poor communicators and are more than willing to learn how to fix something on your dime. They often tell you about your astronomically high bill after theyve done the work. A simple comparison shop will open your eyes to their unfair pricing. Look back through the reviews and you will find other similar complaints. Heres a cost comparison. I needed my battery changed in my 2002 VW Eurovan. Diagnostic load test - they charged me $119. Other shop load test was free. Battery: their charge $200. Retail cost for top shelf battery: I paid $120. Installation: they wanted to charge $119. Other shop charge: $30. Overall, had I just let them put in the battery, I would have paid $438. Instead, I paid a reputable shop $150 for the same service. As a small business owner, I understand that a big shop like Auto Stop has overhead expenses, but this kind of overcharge is clearly excessive.

Auto Stop has been doing a great job of maintaining my small collection of Land Rovers / Ranger Rovers. They do good work, explain what they want to do and why, and charge fairly for the work performed.A few years ago they really came through, helping me save $$$ by finding an alternator at 1/3 of dealer price and getting it installed promptly. Even since Ive been loyal, and they keep me coming back.

Wanted over $300 to change out headlight bulbs!! They spent 3 plus hours on this 15 minute job. Would be cheaper to go to the dealership and no one ever says that. Obviously the mechanics dont have a clue, as they had the bumper and both tires off the car when all they had to do was turn the wheels and remove the wheel well panels to access the bulbs.

While on vacation, skiing at Bridger Bowl,I was driving into the Bozeman airport, to drop off my son,to catch a flight back to Minnesota. While driving back to Bridger Bowl,my Chevy Suburbans alternator gave out.It was already 5:10 p.m. when I pulled into their shop,to see if they could test the alternator. Tyson said no problem,Ill be right out. After diagnosing a bad alternator, he had a new one there in fifteen minutes. Long story short, Mechanic Chris volunteered to stay well past closing hours to replace bad alternator with new one.I cant tell you how much that meant to me.We were leaving at 6 a.m.,the following morning on a 15 hour drive back to Minneapolis. These guys, along with the owner Randy went out of their way to really help an anxious traveler out.All six passengers made it back to work on time Thursday morning. These guys proved, that theres still a lot of great people out there! Thanks again, for being so nice to me.( Skiers from Minnesota)

Really pleased with the work - and communication. Adam, at the counter, though not working a a mechanic really knows what he is doing. Especially in tracking down part options. Have to disassemble entire dash down to the firewall, install new core, then put it all back together, and have everything work! Highly recommend this shop!

I went to have an oil change and my brakes inspected. My cars takes full synthetic oil and a little more than most cars. I come back to pick my car up and the oil change came to $170 dollars. When I spoke to the front desk she responded it was so much because they didn’t “have 18 years old changing oil like the quick lube places”. She was very rude and said that the oil change at jiffy lube would have been at least 130 dollars. They will charge you way to much and drive you in circles when you want some answers. The facilities are clean and the mechanics are knowledgeable. However I brought my vehicle in having already checked the codes at a dealership and had thoroughly researched problem. Vehicle was in limp mode due to a mechanical error from the fuel shot off valve as well as an error message from the MAF . Asked to have them look at fuel shut off valve first but was told the intake manifold being dirty was the problem. Going against my better judgment I went ahead with the cleaning, a job I would have undertaken myself had I not been traveling and over 1,000 miles from home... They began to take apart the manifold, found that there was a missing bolt but failed to notify me of this before going any further. After taking apart the manifold and spending hours to clean it the problem had not gone away. Turned out they had a spare shut off valve from a parts car, popped it in and the codes cleared without coming back.My feeling is that instead of swapping out the valve and replacing a missing bolt right away I spent three days in limbo waiting to have the manifold cleaned and was then charged $800 for the cleaning, a new (used) valve, and an oil change. Car runs fine now but I feel like there was a lack of communication and a steep $99/hr for basically a real sparkly shop.. They did the job well, but the hourly rate is high.. If you can afford them I recommend Auto Stop but if your a bum like me with even a rudimentary knowledge of your vehicle then you may want to consider other options.

I was travelling through the area with my dog and I. My fuel pump went out and this is the closest place I could get to. By the time I went inside (knowing I was stranded in a town I didnt know anything about), I was crying. The men reassured me they would get it fixed first thing Monday morning and I would be back on the road. I called my mechanic to see what price I should be expecting to be charged for this service and he said no more than $300 for my type of fuel pump and labor. He said that would be a bit high though. Monday morning I went in to pay for my vehicle and my bill was $570. My fiancé called them up to complain that they overcharged me knowing my situation and that I was a female. We told them we would be giving poor reviews for this horrible service and they called us back to yell at us for saying so. They even tried to get us to come back to their shop to discuss this in person. This business is why I never trust mechanics. (I know there are good ones out there). Do no not go to this shop unless you want to over pay for horrible service

Took my old car in last week to have the brakes checked. I was told it wasnt the brakes but the tie rod. I scheduled to have the tie rod replaced the following week. When I took the car in the following week, I got a call mid day saying they couldnt fix anything that had been discussed. But I still got charged full price for the time that the mechanic worked on the car. With the charge from the first day and the charge from the second day, I paid a total of $156 to have no work done on my car. I would think that they could have figured out in the first visit that they wouldnt be able to work on my car due to its age.

I took my vehicle in to have a suspected coolant leak investigated. Adam suggested I get an inspection which would allow them to look for the leak but also inspect the rest of my vehicle to see if anything else needed attention. I was told the inspections costs $112. I was told the next day they couldnt find a leak and given some suggestions for other minor things that could be done and Adam suggested keeping the car another day or two to see if the suspected leak might show up with the colder temps in the forecast. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle my bill was $193 with no inspection charge even listed on the receipt. Turns out they had performed an additional pressure test to diagnose the coolant leak without informing me and charged me for 1.5 hours of labor, $22.00 for the antifreeze they added, and a $3.00 dollar shop charge. Im glad they found the leak but I am frustrated they failed to communicate the additional tests and associated charges. We settled on a final price of $150....and for the record $22.00 for universal Anti - Freeze is a total rip off.

In August of 2014, I made a trip to Bozeman from Great Falls, to Bozeman to see if I could get my sons car running again. Serveral days before making the trip, I called several shops to ask if I could get them to do an on board computer diagnostic check to see if there problems with the car beyond my mechanical ability. Shop #1. Said We are too busy, and booked for the next two months. Shop number 2 said: You have to make an appointment, and if you are late, it make take hours of waiting before we can get to you. Auto Stops Randy said: Sure! Stop by anytime! Its a quick check, and well drop what were doing and help you out! Later that week I pull into AUTO STOP and sure enough, he came right out with the hand held computer, and when we get to the car, Randy says: Why dont you turn the engine over and let me listen. He said: I have to charge you the moment we plug this thing in, but I have an idea you may not need to OBC test it. The thnk asks us to oen the hood, and he pulls out a plug on the belt housing, takes his flash light and said. Just what I thought, timing belt is broke. Could be good news or bad news. Lets go find out. He then called a friend who specilizes in the type of car engine we have, and then said; bad news this type of engine is a no clearance type. When the timing belt broke, the valve hit the piston, and the rest is history. He then did an estimate of the investment to repair the engine, which turns out to be 10 times the car is worth. Bad news indeed. When I asked him to talley up the bill for his services, he said no charge. Youve had enough bad news already today. I will say this, If I lived in Bozeman, the Auto stop would be my mechanics for life. If my son ever buys another car, they will be the people I trust for good advice and honest service work. A word to the wise for those thinking about buying a pre-owned car, consider buying from Auto Stop, and always ask if the engine is a clearance type. It will save y ou alot of heartache. Thanks Randy.
