I was referred to Smooth Action by Lee Precision (a reloading company who lists SA as a dealer). I live out of town, and its a good 3 hour round trip to get to Smooth Action and back with traffic around their location, etc. I went to the store on a Saturday, during business hours, and they were closed. No idea if they are permanently gone or what. Their telephone recording and web site say nothing about them being closed. I had wanted to buy some fairly expensive items, like a reloading press, and wanted to look at them in person. Now I have to buy online since I dont feel like going back to Smooth Action at this point. People say support your local business, but its a two way street. If a shop cant provide for customers, then the customer is forced to go elsewhere.Update - they are OUT OF BUSINESS/CLOSED. It would be nice if they had updated their phone recording, put up a sign, and said something on their web site.
The friendliest gun shop I have ever been in!!!!!! The staff took their time and showed my wife and myself all the guns that we wanted, there was no pressure and they made us feel like a family member. When we bought our guns, they patiently explained all of our questions..The owners wife Anne is the best, she allowed my wife to feel good about her first gun purchase..Smooth Action Firearms will be our only gun store!!!We have returned to Smooth Action to buy another firearm. Their inventory has gotten larger and the staff is still just as helpful and patient as before. I dont think well find another store as helpful as them!!!
I went here and didnt know a thing about guns or anything I was just curious as I wanted to buy my first rifle thought I would stop buy and ask and maybe buy a nice rifle because I never shot a gun and thought it would be fun maybe go hunting sometime. First they told me I needed to take a class to buy a rifle which was $50 which was a flat out lie and even then I knew that. I felt like they didnt want me to buy anything which was really odd, and they even made a comment like you would have to be able to afford a rifle in order to buy it I guess because I am 20 they decided to throw that out there. Anyway I ended up buying a better one somewhere else and never even returned to this place I dont recommend especially if you dont know much about guns they will try to sucker you into paying for things you dont need.
Is a 3 star rating justification for repeat business? I really wanted to like this place. I was refered to Smooth Action Firearms for reloading components. (As most are probably aware components are not the easiest to come by). So knowing that there was a store in my back yard that had these items on hand was exciting. However, upon visiting I imediately realized they were EXPENSIVE! and Im not talking $2 or $3 or $5, but much more, above the going market prices... Anyway, It was Friday and needed to make a few rounds for the range on Sat. as my buddies were expecting me to, so I took it like a champ and got what I needed. Then looking around I asked to see one of their guns. While checking it out, testing its features, I pressed the mag release button and was told not to eject the magazine.... I am suppose to buy a $400-$500 gun w/out being able to test its features? its like looking at a car and the dealer/seller tells you not to look under the hood...!I get all these same limitations buying online but with better prices, and to boot, better customer service. So as much as I would like to patronize a local business I get nothing in return.I will stick to online.
I walked into the store with my entire family -- six of us, and its a small store, so theres no way they wouldnt notice. We worked our way around the store and looked at everything, with the kids pointing and oo-ing and so on. We arent quiet, we arent shy. There wasnt a can I help you, an Ill be with you in a minute, or even a hi from anyone working at the store. I guess if you dont look like youre going to spend money, youre not worth their time. Well, when I do buy a gun, it wont be here.
Solid pricing, decent stock even in this political climate. Down to earth and straight forward.
