If I could rate them 6 stars I would have. Everybody there was extremely friendly and they saved me $900. Let me repeat and spell it out, THEY SAVED ME NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS! I couldnt be happier. If you ever have an issue with your muffler, or other car issues like shocks, brakes or alignments, youd be doing yourself a disservice to go anywhere else before going here first. If you do go somewhere else first, come here for a second opinion, itll be worth it.They went over everything with me and made me understand exactly whats wrong and how they can fix it. Their ads are not deceptive. Yankee Discount Muffler is in fact the best in town. Quality service with a smile. I hope to never have to see them again, but if my car has another issue in the future, Im going straight to Yankee Discount Muffler to get it serviced.

I went today because I was concerned about a noise coming from the rotors and the guy didn’t want to help me said that go somewhere else to fix it. VERY CRUEL AND DIDNT BOTHER TO HELP.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Excellent service!! I brought in our 67 Mustang for exhaust repairs. They promptly put it on the lift, checked it out, along with myself and gave options on what to do, along with a quick and HONEST estimate!!!!. I had a set of custom mufflers, and they had no issues installing them, along with fixing some hangers and other small details. I was there when they opened on a Saturday morning, and was done in just over an hour from estimate to pulling the car out of the bay!!!Ive used Yankee Discount Muffler before, and will recommend the business to anyone who needs exhaust work done

I would recommend any one to go here. Peter is very considerate and honest. He lifted my 1999 jeep and had me look at the muffler with him. To make it afford from me. He fixd the existing pipe where a hanger had broken off and replace only what was necessary. They did a great job bending me a new tail pipe and welding it all together.

Very nice guys, things were slow the morning I got there so the jumped on it and replaced my broken flex pipe in about an hour! Great job and saved me a lot from replacing the entire system!

Big surprise. Called for an estimate on an old Volvo (92 940T) and they offered: Come in any time and well look it over together. The following morning, drove in and they had it up on the lift in less than 5 minutes. The quote was together faster than that and their price beat any other quote. Other shops left me with Cant find the parts or Will need to track down a supplier or no return call at all. His offer: I can do it right now for you. If I didnt have to get back to work, it would have been a short wait. They had all parts and hangers on hand ...for a 92 Volvo? ... !!, bent the pipes to customize and stifle vibration, and called back to say it your car is ready in less than 2 hrs. When it was time to settle up, the price hadnt changed. They even shined up the tailpipe cover I opted to keep. The whole experience knocked me down. A real fine example of great service. Will refer all to this shop every time.

February 9, 2011AMAZING! The front end of my muffler fell off on route 8 and I used a hangar to hold it up until I could get it checked out. I first went to a major muffler shop M. They gave me a 900.00 written estimate! The local Ford dealership said I should just get a complete system ..1190.00!! I searched online for a local dealership and came upon Yankee Muffler. The reviews were glowing. So i figure I would give it a shot. After assessing the damage the owner said a new part and and labor would be 757.00 THEN he said, but Im going to build you a new part, and save you a ton of money! I walked out with a 159.00 bill! If you dont go to Yankee Muffler first, you will be paying too much. The customer service was great. Patronize the small business man especially Yankee Muffler!

I have to question the legitimacy of these other reviews. My experience was dreadful. The moment I pulled up, I was greeted by a nice mechanic and explained my problem to him. That was about as pleasant as it got.The owner was sitting on the garage floor cooking chicken on a portable grill with my car running up on the lift next to him. The mechanic takes a quick peek underneath and spots some problems with my car, but he noted they wouldnt solve the problem that I was there to have fixed.I am taken inside the office, where the owner follows us. His rate is $250/hour. Thats not a typo. He proudly boasts about it when I questioned the signage, claiming he is the most expensive in the country. Either he is off his rocker or this is a gimmick so that patrons feel theyre getting a deal when he quotes them a lower price, which he did with me.I was told the repairs, which again they stated would not fix the problem I am having with my cylinders misfiring, would cost $250. He said he was waiving the cost of labor and would only charge me for parts. At that point I declined service and left. Go in with caution if you decide to visit here.

I needed to fix the exhaust on my Ford Escape. All it needed was to be seal with a gasket and fix the bolt. A different garage wanted to charge $136. I went Yankee Discount Muffler and without telling the price quote at the other shop was charging. They took car on the lift, inspected the exhaust and said $65. The owner said that he understand that people work hard for their money and he does not to ripped people off.

The owner is a great man, very wise and very kind. Have a conversation with him if you can, hes very entertaining. Cheapest and quickest service Ive ever gotten on my car by far. Highly recommended.

Just returned from a very positive experience at Yankee Discount Muffler. The exhaust system that I was quoted a cost elsewhere to replace for $1200 was repaired for $200. And I still have a stainless steel system rather than an aluminum replacement. Now I have to hope that I live long enough to refer enough people to this business.

Stoped in to have a broken bracket looked at on my exhaust that had left a hole in a pipe. He welded the part and I was on my way in no time. Alls good for now any way. He did warn me that there is some age on the system.And may need to do something more at a later date but for now your good. Did not try to sell me anything I did not need. I was out of there for $50

Absolutely the best for all your exhaust and muffler needs. They can handle any exhaust issue efficiently right on the spot and without an appointment. Ive taken many cars there, my own as well as friends and family over the years. Ive even made trips down from Willington when I used to live there. They consistently come in significantly under dealers or other shops without compromising quality of labor. Metal sure might be cheaper than OEM but I think the price drop is much more significant than any drop in quality of material.To comment on Shawn Hs review, their labor rate to me is irrelevant. The owner tends to give you a nice, reasonable, round and competitive price. If there is a problem they will let you know and recommend the fix. They are transparent about what they can and cant do. They offer a variety of services but its primarily a muffler shop, not a full service shop. Its not uncommon to want to fix one thing on a vehicle but have multiple things to be handled. I wouldnt negatively rate a muffler shop for recommending a service but being unable to fix an engine miss fire. There are many dealers even, unequipped to do the work Yankee can perform on exhausts and they certainly recommend many other services tangential to what I may have originally wanted to handle. I dont fault them for it, I think its good to know what may be a problem and have the opportunity to choose to fix it.

Got my brakes and rotors done in an hour. Might have been less. Costed $275 flat. Idk about you but to me, thats excellent!! Every where else gave me quotes that were out of this world. The loud sounds are gone and it drives perfectly again. Great prices, great service. I highly recommend Yankee Discount Muffler

You should have seen my face when I turned my ignition and my car was quite as a mouse. My car flex pipe was really bad, with one glimps of the underneath the car, peter was able to tell me the problem. 30 minutes later it was fixed and I was the happiest person in the world.

Exceptional place! My 98 lexus exhaust was finally showing its age. I needed a couple of resonators. The dealership quoted a price for the parts only at nearly $3000 with a straight face lol Peter/Yankee Discount came to my rescue. With expert welding/craftsmanship.. my car purrs like a kitten again... for $300 !! This is the type of place you look for.. you wont be disappointed

The secondary converter on my altima broke. I had no idea that it would be covered under my warranty. The man took a look at my car quoted me $335 for the work and I okayed it. He want on his computer and look over at me. Than told me to try going to the dealer because it maybe covered under my warranty. Now that is a honest business man. He had the chance to do the work and take my money. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Had a crack in my muffler pipe and dealer wanted to replace whole thing for $1,200. Got it welded for $150 in about 20 mins and it is as good as new.

This is the worsts place to get your brakes fixed, my wife Anabel and I took the car for fixing the frakes new disk and right side wheel bearing, can you believe this people cut my sensor off for the wheel bearing, after I took the car back letting them know that the car is showing me some abs light in the console and was not there before they say we didnt do nothing to the sensor, ok so I been driving the car like that almost 5 months now but now I have emissions to do so I have to fix the problem so I took it to the mechanic and he show me pictures of how they cut my sensor and they put the wheel bearing wrong because is supposed to match a whole for the sensor Whit the wheel bearing and they dont match so please people stay away from this place

May 22, 2013. This business is AWESOME. Unbelievable prices. Peter and his team are so freindly and honest it was like stepping back in time before people were rude, snotty and indifferent.I needed a muffler and tailpipe for my 2000 Toyota Tacoma and was quoted a price of $475 at a competitor in Shelton. Peter demanded that he save me money and on the phone quoted the price of $219. When I got to his business 2 days later he asked what the quote was he gave to me on the phone and when I told him he dropped it lower to $210.In and Out in 30 MINUTES, installed. YESSSSS.I will be spreading the word and YANKEE DISCOUNT MUFFER will have all my exhaust and brake service from now on.

The dealer wanted $1200 to replace the front half of my exhaust system. I called Yankee Discount Muffler saturday at 11:30, a kind gentlemen told me to come right over as they were not that busy and he would do the best he can for me pricewise. I drove right down, they put my car up in the air and I was quoted $160.00 including tax. It took 35 minutes and I had a delightful conversation with the owner Peter VanDo. I even met his daughter and three wonderful grandsons (triplets). The car was fixed promplty and no more noise, and I saved over $1000.00. I highly recomend Yankee Discount Muffler and will return for all my brake, exhaust and axle repairs. Thank You Peter.

My car has been quiet since.My expense went from $850.00+ (Mid, Mien, Monr) to $106.00 at Yankee Muffler. I cant tell you enough how happy I am with this place. My visit goes something like this: I had a check engine light (CEL) for months that was due to a bad catalytic converter. Now on my car I have 2 pre-cats and 2 main cats, for those of you who know cars you know what Im talking, for those of you who dont read: Expensive. I was quoted $1100-$2300 to replace the cats at other places, yes franchises. Im from NY and have a place back home, but I work around here and dont get back there much. Anyway, I went to Yankee and Peter put my car up on the lift and I explained what I wanted done. He looked and then we looked on the computer and he said to replace the right side would be $947. I politely asked if there was another way this could be fixed. He offered to put in a universal cat, as opposed to the OEM, for $300. Now that $300 included a flex pipe (which I had gotten done in the past for $150+), universal cat and an Oxygen sensor welded in. Long review short my CEL has been off for 200+ miles and Im going to get inspected this weekend. If you need any type of exhaust work done please give this place your business. Also while I was there I met a man who got a magnaflow put on his Wrangler = Awesome. Another customer had a noisy exhaust and it was fixed in 20 mins. An older gentleman was in there for a broken gasket, fixed in 20 mins. I tell you this because I dont think theyll write reviews for this wonderful place. In closing there was this other guy there who was told by Pepboys in Hamden he needed new brakes. Peters staff looked at them, cleaned them for free and verified that they were fine.
