My wife and I went to purchase some sneakers. When we went to pay the cashier asked if we wanted a discount. We asked if it was an automatic discount and he said yes. We just needed to apply for the credit card. My wife agreed and went through the process. We were then told that we will be notified in 5 to 7 business days. No automatic discount but the cashier grabbed a football and I heard the manager say Oh you got another We ended getting the discount because the cashier lied just to get whatever promotion they had.

First time purchasing firearm here. Wife and I had submitted 3 background check applications. Each time they told us would phone us when there is a decision. Not a single time. Finally, we headed back and checked its approved. The manager was validating our documents, he said we need to have I-551 and Permanent Resident Card, here we dont have the I-551. So asked us to get the doc and proceed. I turned back home and found out that the Permanent Resident Card is in fact the form I-551. Headed back to the shop and the manager said he had to close it and we need to submit another background check to start over.I dont know why they told us they would update us the status of applications but never happened. Also told us to get I-551 to complete the required documents to proceed the sale, but closed it before we brought complete documents back. Which was not even 30 minutes.No apology given. While reasoning with the manager Wally, he said that if I keep the aggression level he can refuse the sale to me. Of course, what he feels matters the most after all.Good luck and God bless all.

Pack of customers and only 3 registers open spend more than 30 minutes to pay. managers and personnel don’t care about it. super slow service, not the first time with same issue

I drove to both academys stores they both advertised a product that wasnt in stock or had a past promo price tag. In both instances when I went to pay they made me feel stupid because I clearly saw the posted price tag that had a lower price and it ran up a higher price, they stated that the price was from the past promo and someone failed to remove the tags. They honored the posted price as they should have. They were not doing me any favors, just their jobs! They wasted my time, gas, patience. Im not sure what going on with stores employees, but it seemed like they didnt want to work there.

Great place to shop. Has great selection on hunting and fishing items. Plus sports wear. Great section on mens and womens shoes.

Always try to make a stop when Im in the area. You can usually find pretty good deals in the clearance section

Not enough employees to handle the massive amount of customers in the store the times I have gone to this location. However I did them for stars for basically everything else including really good customer service overall, and great selection in store.

The staff at the gun counter are extremely incompetent. They did not know what they were talking about with firearms. Even the store manager couldnt answer my questions. DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. Go to a real gun store and get what you need from the right folks who know what they are talking about.

Don’t expect a quick check out, will not open a second register even if there’s a long line waiting.

Academy has everything an outdoorsman needs except staff to help you. If this is the way they save money they should really rethink things. Besides that one issue academy rocks.

Purchased a Mangus Mangoose. Had issues with gears when riding outside store . Luckily I was able to test it out and did an exchange.

I had a bad experience with cashier Angelica on register #6 on May 1, 2021 at 3:30pm an wanted to speak to the manager but Gabriel called the manager on the phone but the manager could not take care of my concern because he first asked Gabriel what I wanted to talk to him about.I didnt want to wait some more but I really wanted to make sure things got better for our customer experience but what do can I expect when the manager doesnt care either

The store is fine, but they often only have 1 register open. Regardless of the line is 10 people deep. See lots of employees around though, so its a management issue.

The store itself is fantastic, highly recommend. But I’m guessing the store manager or higher up can’t afford to pay their workers, and give them some good hours. It’s quite unfortunate, that people have to wait a really long time in large lines to pay. Only 2 registers open, what kind of non sense is that😂.

Order online but doesnt have app. website on the internet is so confusing and difficult to use. When finally placed order online went to pickup section imputed info on link provided but the signs didnt have numbers just said pick up. Called the customer service number to let them know that the signs didnt have numbers and the guy said just to wait that the guys were going in and out to help with orders.

Quick reminder to anybody trying to buy a gun here. If the website say theres only one left in stock, then that means that its being held for someone else. Ive been to this store twice to purchase a weapon and they never have anything in sstock. Overall, its a great store.

They used to be more helpful lost my receipt and when returning my item they gave me a gift card for half of the price of the item 😡

Bad online shopping experience, placed order got it cancelled by associate since it was not in stock but online showed it was available for pickup. Associate called never left message about what was going on, bad communication on the store’s part. All i got was a text message staying i had cancelled order. Never again am i using online ordering at least from academy. communication training should be available for associates.

This store has friendly employees. They even had a few boxes of ammo on the shelf that we had trouble finding in other stores

They have two to four employees in the morning, looks more like a haunted house than an academy sports and outdoors. This brownsville location needs new management and an attitude adjustment for the employees. Dont make the mistake of applying for their card because the benefits are non existent. I closed my account with then and reported them to the better business bureau because they submitted a card application without my consent and told me it had been denied despite my 795 score. I received the declined card two weeks after. Never coming back, I will drive to mcallen if I have to. Brownsville location failed!

We got what we needed but it so hot and uncomfortable inside the store we couldnt shop comfortably for other things

I feel so bad for the front end staff here. They only had one register open and the line was 8 or 9 customers deep. Other staff had no register and couldnt assist.

Customer service is NOT helpful at all. I have an online order and i had 3 missed calls and a voice mail saying to call them back. I called them back and the guy told me my order wasnt ready... I told him so then, i got 3 missed calls and a voice mail just for you guys to tell me my order was not ready? He said yes hahahaI guess the academy team just wanted to talk to me about my day 🥰 lol

Store was clean and it was easy to find help.

Had an issue with an item. The first time I went in to exchange it they did not have the item and I was told to return the next day since they often get the item restocked. Came in the next day and after the employee looked around for 10 minutes I was told that the item was in stock but that the manager had to process a security code before I could buy it. I asked when the item would be available and I could not get an actual time or day. I asked in the front for the manager and was told that even if I talked to them they couldnt do anything because they were busy with interviews and a meeting later on. I returned the item nonetheless and will be taking my business somewhere else.

I waited for 45 minutes and just left for someone to show me some oakley sunglasses. The girl at the door said someone will be right there. She never called anyone. No one in shoes or around the store either No employees are helping the customer very long lines and no staff. Better off ordering in the website I guess but I need the stuff now.

Found husbands size at a great price and some crocs for me for $29.00! I left a happy camper.

Store representatives seem friendly and asked if we needed help. Store seemed a little unorganized. We went looking for a couple of items that their website said they had in-stock, but when we went looking for them, they were nowhere to be found.

The cashier was rude and her name ximena and didnt hand me the receipt right she literally threw it in my hand like she didnt want to work. She wasnt friendly. There was another employee woman getting cash from the front and was walking so slow taking her time while there was a long line waiting. They need to hire better and friendly employees.

Friendly at the registers but extremely slow. Out of 8 registers only two were open and had lines that were lined up across all the way to the back of the store. The lines had at least 30 costumers and many of them were not very happy. Opening regiters would ease this situation.

Went in for some baseball equipment and I got really good deals! And always check their clearance because have even better deals!

This Brownsville Texas academy is the worst went in on Wednesday to purchase the pit boss table top stop pellet smoker. The store checked their inventory and they said they had 2 in stock and they lied about it and said they couldn’t find them. I then call the corporate office and spoke to them in customer service and I spoke to 3 different customer service agents they call the Brownsville Texas store and assured them that yes they definitely have 2 in stock and that was another lie. Well so much for doing anymore purchases at academy. The store I go to to buy all my fishing and hunting supplies and all my bbqing and smoking supplies. I will never shop at another academy store again. I will be sharing my experience with academy on social media

My visit was good I tried to buy a pair of shoes in Arlington and couldnt find them but went to the academy in Brownsville Ivan helped me find the shoes I needed

They have really good deals on weights and work out benches. Nicely organized .

Customer service is horrible. I placed a curbside order and checked in upon arrival, as instructed via email. I waited for 30 minutes. I called the store four times. No response was obtained. I entered the store & an employee told me all their staff was very busy at the moment. I was told a staff member was advised & they would assist me shortly. I waited 20 more minutes & I left. I do not understand why you offer curbside if you cannot manage this feature. Not shopping here again.
