Honestly the food was delicious. Wasnt a fan of the sausage, but everything else was fabulous. Fed the wife and I for 2 days. Sauce was great. Mac and cheese good, beans solid, but should include cornbread in the platters. We had to make our own.
If someone asked me to describe Southern Junction in just two words, those words would be flavor and quality.A lot of chain barbeque restaurants these days do not have a lot of flavor. Sure, youll get that smokey taste, but in addition you need flavor. Southern Junction packs the flavor in. From the barbacurry, to the smokey tikka, the brisket beans, and more; everything is packed with flavor. The infusion of Indian spices with the barbeque gives it amazing taste. All that flavor is packed into well cooked, quality food. The meats were all very tender and excellently cooked. The portions were enough for plenty of leftovers.Additionally, the crew here was very friendly and accommodating. If youre in the Buffalo area and looking for good BBQ, you cannot go wrong with Southern Junction.
Consistency is lacking. its hit or miss with some things. sometimes the ribs are super tender and pull apart easily with no effort, then another time they will be so tough you cant even pull them apart and have to cut them with a knife. although the flavor is always good.. same with the cornbread, one time it will be moist and the best ive ever had- the next time dry and crumbly to the point id toss it out. the 1st 2 times we had pickled onions included as a side with the dinners, the last time- none. the brisket is tender and moist and the bark flavor was amazing. the cheddar macaroni and cheese with smoked jalapenos was great. (although there were no jalapenos in it the last time we ordered it, again- lack of consistency) the charred corn dish came served cold and i wasnt a fan. i heated it up and it was much better, but i wouldnt order it again. the barbacurry beef was flavorful and tender. the texas twinkies were sooo good! and big! the guy who was at the pickup stand was super friendly and personable, gave us a free pastry and bottle of water for the 5 minute extra wait. helped bring the food to the car, and the owner i spoke to on the phone was so helpful and nice also. only complaint is that the address for pickup is confusing because its the same # on each side of the street but navigation tells you its on one side, but its on the opposite side..on a narrow street which is not easy to turn around. they need a clearer location or to put the street number up so people can see it because nobody is looking to the correct side when google is navigating you to the opposite side which has the same street number. very confusing. unfortunately due to the lack of consistency (especially with the ribs) we wouldnt go back again.
Visiting from Austin TX was super exiting to try and they did not disappoint. The flavors are familiar but different and would compete with any place that I have experienced in Texas. The few things I have loved about Buffalo are the Bills the local beer and Southern Junction BBQ. Look forward to come back on our next visit to Buffalo!!!
I cannot believe how amazing the food tastes here. I have had almost everything on their menu and everything tastes great The flavor and quality is top notch. This is a must try for Buffalo food scene. I wish Ryan and his Southern Junction crew a ton of success.
This is the best Texas BBQ I’ve had since I went to Texas! (And even that meal was on par with this). The portion sizes are good as well. The lunch boxes are filling and gives you plenty of options to choose from. I can not recommend this place high enough. We did curbside pickup and they were right on time. We may go back tomorrow lol
Items like the smoked tikka chicken make this one of the most unique food destinations in buffalo, no one is doing what theyre doing by combining different techniques.
I exchanged texts regarding my order because I wasn’t sure what to order for my party. The person was so patient and beyond helpful. I then ordered it for the wrong date pick up by mistake and he accommodated me for the following day. In addition to the great service the food was a hit. Everyone loved it. We will be ordering again; thank you!
I absolutely love this place. My favorite is the brisket my weekly special treat.
After Smoke on the Water closed, I have been looking for brisket places in Buffalo. Now this place is going to be my go-to place for briskets. Only downside is that they dont have dine-in spaces yet.
Southern Junction serves up a very tasty Texas barbecue Indian fusion. We got smoked turkey, jalapeño mac & cheese, cornbread, and bourbon pecan pie for Christmas dinner. Someone inhaled the mac & cheese. The cornbread lasted a couple of days it was great with that morning cup of coffee. There was a little bit of turkey left which I ended up making for lunch. This is one of those places where you’ve got to order early in the week because once it’s gone it’s gone, but it’s more than worth the extra effort.
Malu spices make bbq better
High quality cuts. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Tasty BBQ sauce. Overall very impressed with the food & experience and would highly recomemend to anyone wanting good food/BBQ!
Seriously excellent Bar-B-Q
Can I give 10 stars?! It is SOOOOO good! Woke up dreaming about the dinner we had last night... and yes, I had some of the leftovers for breakfast, I couldnt help it. The pulled pork, brisket and corn bread were all very tasty. (We bought a couple of fresh Constanzos rolls and fancy pickles separately to go with it.) Im not a baked bean person but my family loved them too.
Awesome place, awesome food, awesome owner. if you enjoy good food come here
Waited 45 minutes for an order with a predetermined pick up time
As one who lived in Texas, this is, hands-down, the best innovative fusion BBQ in town!
Stopped here on a whim early Saturday not knowing exactly where this place was and I now won’t forget. We ordered the smoked chicken curry and pulled pork and the flavors were incredible. Unlike anything I’ve tried before. The staff was friendly and even let us sample some other stuff as well. Cannot wait to go back!
Everything they make is amazing. Try the kolaches! Also, check the online menu a couple days before ordering ahead-they tend to sell out quickly!
Best BBQ in Buffalo! Best ribs youll ever eat in your life! Do yourself a favor and try all the sides.
Absolutely delicious! Best barbecue that I have had up north. Portion sizes are perfect, and damn is that sauce tasty. Keep up the good work!
I got the Barbacurry with Biriyani rice and South Indian stir fry family pack and let me tell you everything was delicious. The smoked and shredded beef was seasoned perfectly. The rice and stir fry complimented the main dish. 10/10 would recommend! I cant wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!
Picked it up yesterday for the first time, and it was awesome. The food was great, and the value for the money is outstanding as well. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely delicious mash of Texas bbq and Indian spice. I don’t even really care for bbq in general and I absolutely loved the pulled pork. Large portions and sides that can give you the spice you are looking for. Will definitely be going back again.
First time here. Amazing food! Highly recommend it.
Honestly I like this place better than Buffalo Dinosaur, Fat Bobs, Suzy Qs. Not only is the meat smoked to perfection, the Indian spices are a unique and amazing touch. Could not recommend enough.
Calling it now best new spot in 2020. Indian Bbq might be one of the best things that isn’t a thing yet. The barbacurry was insane and the pulled pork was the best I’ve had in Buffalo. If you want legit bbq or an amazing fusion cuisine this is the place.
Not just my new favorite barberque place. Not just my new favorite indian place, but LITTERALY my favorite place for meaty goodness in Buffalo. The ribs are phenomenal, they have a nice crust and are still super tender and juicy. The indian inspired sauce they had with them (not their bbq) was so good I saved some of it to put on eggs in the morning!
Food is great - our plan was to try it all so I put together an order of just about everything in a single box and hoped for the best. The crew at Southern Junction handled the order amazingly and from pickup, the bbq was amazing. The way my car was starting to smell on the way home was only a prelude to what would come. Opening up our boxes, our choices were visibly vibrant and it was quickly obvious their appearance was a reflection of their flavor. The pulled pork was flavorful and meaty, its porky essence only enhanced by the piquant sauce. The barbacurry was supremely spiced, smoky, and tender; the curried chicken was no slouch either, finely representing the protein selection. The sides are all worth a try, though I think Ill hit the character limit of a review if I started any additional in depth discussion, though check out for the cornbread and the South Indian stir fry.I was hoping that this experience would help us to narrow down our selection of what to order for next time, but it was all so good that I cant pick favorites! Go here and get food, you wont regret it. Definitely excited to have such good barbeque nearby and definitely planning a return. Even in indecisivity.
TI foundhis via an article I read in, Step Out (in) Buffalo and I tried it! The food is a combo of traditional bbq and an Indian fusion of spices that seem to work out quite well together. Everything was finger licking good, cooked perfectly. Only issue I had was the Mac and cheese kind of tasted plain, however the smoky flavor and the peppers made it enjoyable.I ordered a single half rack of ribs, curried chickpeas, biryani rice, Mac and cheese topped with grilled jalepeno and a side of the spiced cornbread. The place is to go only and open limited hours on the weekend so you have to order via their website online. It was worth the two week wait and couple of hiccups in-between, lol (short/long story).Anyway, the owner, Ryan, made it right by giving me a whole rack of ribs instead of the half rack I ordered. My life is complete! This means I dont have to cook for three days.Service quick, friendly owner. I will try everything on the menu.
Best cornbread OF ALL TIME!
Delicious and innovative.
Good was excellent
