I can sincerely say that going to Southeast Guitar Repair is like going to your visit family or dear friends. This is a small family run business that treats customers with utmost respect and care. I genuinely felt like I was talking with an old friend or trusted neighbor as I discussed the service needed for my beloved instruments. They understand that each guitar or bass or other instrument has sentimental value to the owner, and they embrace the stories, history, and idiosyncratic little quirks that are so very special to the owner of the instrument. My nephew used to do all my guitar work for me, but he moved away, and he told me before he left, “If you want your guitars to be treated right, go to Southeast Guitar Repair!” He was absolutely correct. There is no other place I would trust with axes! Thank you!

Excellent quality work, friendly staff, well run operation. I highly recommend Southeast. They did nice work on my strat (clean and lubricate pots and switch) and my Taylor (adjust neck). Both came back sounding/playing better. Reasonable price and great value!

After Maple Street stopped servicing instruments not purchased in their store, I decided to bring my Taylor to Southeast Guitar Repair back in September. I brought my Taylor in to have the frets dressed ($200) as well as have a good setup for Eb standard tuning. The tech upsold me to go ahead and get my plastic saddle and nut upgraded to bone (which would cost an extra $200). I decided to go ahead and do it as I had the budget for it.When the guitar was ready for me, I picked it up. It sounded and felt great when I played it in the store acoustically. But when I got home, I realized that the transducer for the pickup wasnt working properly. It wasnt picking up the sound correctly - sounded terrible. So I had my wife bring it back in. They ordered a new transducer and installed it - and called me to come pick it up.When I got there to pick it up, the tech uninstalled the bone saddle (that I paid $200 for) and put back in the original plastic saddle. I was confused why he would do that... He said my wife told him to do it.. Which is crazy because she knows nothing about guitars. He told me that I could just re-install the bone saddle later on.I didnt want to make a scene about it in the store because the people come across as sincere. But Im super upset about how I received my guitar. The frets seem good. But the saddle that is installed reverses however he set the guitar up in the first place. So it still buzzes like crazy. I took the strings off and tried to install the bone saddle back in.. but it sits WAY too low when it touches the transducer. So now Im suspicious that the tech knew that. Which is why he uninstalled it and put the original plastic one back in in the first place. So Im sitting here $400 poorer with a guitar that sounds and feels no better. Im honestly very frustrated.

Very rude, quoted one price which ans because they kept missing key items that I had left with documented and went over with them they kept increasing their price twice and scope of work, still ended up missing items off the quote after a week of going over it. Will not work with them again as they were in increadably rude

Over the last couple of months I have had 14 guitars serviced here. Bottom line all 14 are in fantastic shape. The high end models, Gibsons, PRS and Fenders all play as one would expect. The one offs, lower end models of various brands are better then ever. Hard to tell much difference between the high end and lower end models. Anything I pickup plays great. For the record I live 60 miles away and the drive was well worth it. Obviously with that many guitar several of the luthiers were involved and all did a great job. I won’t go any where else and recommend you give them a chance. 5 stars is really not a high enough rating, thanks Barrett and crew.

After receiving my Alvarez DY 95 N, pic attached, from an ebay seller listing in Collectors Condition, I found a long finish crack from the bridge to the lower bout purfling and a saddle listed as plenty of saddle height with Museum quality Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. The latter was correct. the two former grossly misrepresented. You should have to take a test about guitar basics and condition to sell on ebay or Reverb, or anywhere for that matterMy luthier here in Columbia, SC would not touch it because of the ample adornment of abalone and pearl for what I thought needed a neck reset, new saddle and nut-remember Collectors Condition. I researched, Google, and found Southeast Guitar Repair was just that. The reviews were impressive, with the occasional disgruntled customer, and the website gave me all the info I needed to send this very limited and 43 year old relic to receive the repairs it needed to obtain the original title above.Kaleb was assigned my guitar and after initial inspection he called to confirm the condition and remedy. I have always read to never shim a bridge to obtain the results that a neck reset should accomplish He reassured me that was not always the case. She was gone for over a month, some updates would be nice during a medical stay of such, but the final product, the crack repair and action issue resolved, allowed me to play for 5 hours after letting her settle in to my homes climate upon delivery from UPS. My regular driver ask, How many guitars do you have? (22 to date) As many as my wife will allow-She really likes this one!!!I am well beyond impressed with Kalebs skills and the narrative you find on their website is accurate and represented in the condition of this rare Alvarez Yairi. One of the best, if not the best, high end non-Martin, Gibson, et. al guitars hand made in the hills of Japan by Kazuo Yairi.(Deceased 5-2-14)This one, like my three DY 90s blows my friends Taylor 814 away! Of course, mine is hand signed and built 12-13-1977 by Mr. Yairi!!!. Taking 8 months to build. The music continues on Durham Drive. Go Yairi and Go App State!!!

These guys are great!! My Martin needed something other that a removable sound hole pickup. They recommended a quality permanent solution. They also noticed that my guitar wasnt quite right in the neck area. They added the pickup and tuned the guitar. I didnt know how hard I was having to work playing until I got the guitar back and the sound amplified is much better and much more even. I will return if I have any issues with this guitar or any other that I have.

The best guitar repair shop in the universe. Back in the 80s, my luthier was the later-famous bass designer Greg Curbow. Barrett and crew surpass that standard. Theyve done my work for fifteen years, and Ive been nothing but pleased in all that time.

Went in there with a neck that needed work and drove an hour to get there. They sort of kind of took a look at it and handed it back to me and said that it was fine... There are tall frets everywhere so I guess I will take it somewhere else. Definitely call before you make a trip to this joint. If they are not in the mood to work on your stuff they will just make up a reason not to.

I just recently bought a new Gibson les Paul and took it to SE guitar repair for a set up and bone nut install. I’ve been taking all my guitars to them for several years and they never disappoint. Gavin (I believe) did the set up and nut work and this guitar plays GREAT. Action and intonation are perfect. Gavin even stained the bone nut for me to give it an aged look... and it looks great. Very thankful that these guys are so close by (15min). I HIGHLY recommend them. Thanks guys!

Fantastic work. I had a LP I needed set up in addition to some warranty work from Gibson. I can tell you that SGR was able to fix the warranty issue and set up my guitar to be a chug machine. As of this moment, they have set up 4 of my guitars and those are the ones that are the most fun to play. I am just working my way through the rest of my guitars now. Great job!! Keep up the good work!!

I finally came across a specific bass I had always wanted, but it had a large crack in the body near the bridge and needed new electronics. Because of this I got a great deal on it, so I bought it and took it up to Southeast Guitar Repair to see if they could rewire it and at least stop the crack from getting bigger. They went above my expectations and were able to completely repair the crack for me even though it was in a difficult location near the bridge, and found the preamp that matched what was originally in it. The bass sounds and looks amazing now. I highly recommend this shop. Great customer service as well!

I have been to techs and luthiers all over GA. These guys really are THE BEST. All my guitars have been set up some repaired there, and I mean a REAL set up…not just a clean and restring like most do. I have also done many pickup swaps there. I am in awe every time I get a guitar back because of how well it plays after they work their magic. Its definitely worth the long drive I make from Woodstock to take my guitars to them. You can really tell they care about every instrument that comes into their shop like it was their own.

Very friendly and helpful experts. I am new to amplified instruments and they helped me with what I thought was a loose end pin. They let me know that this style end pin comes loose from time to time and showed me how to tighten it without damaging the instrument. The real problem turned out to be a bad cable. For all of this, they waived their standard one hour bench time. I will be back for any kind of repair or set up work on any stringed instrument that I own.

I brought in my new Emerald Amicus carbon fiber instrument for work on the LR Baggs Anthem pick up. Since I received the instrument from the builder in Ireland, the pick up worked but would draw down the 9 volt battery pretty quickly even though it was not plugged in. (Emerald Guitars offered to cover the cost of the repair, way easier than returning it.) I contacted Baggs and they sent me a new tail pin plug thinking it was the culprit. (which it seems it was) Southeast Guitar Repair quoted me $35 to replace it. I didnt want to tackle it myself since it is a challenging job in a very tight space. I know it took way longer than they expected but, they stuck to their quote. For the time it took, most other businesses would have tried to jack up the price. I will be bringing them one of my banjos for a setup sometime soon. Thanks!

Was worried leaving my only (and emotionally irreplaceable) instrument in the care of anyone else for the first time. These guys did a stellar job. My guitar needed just about everything done to it - re-fretting, new nut, multiple long topwood cracks sealed, setting up. I hadnt taken good care of it... A 2000 Taylor 712ce.I would certainly recommend Southeast Guitar Repair. It cost more than I was hoping for, anyways, but I dont regret that at all. Im impressed and pleased with the job they did. Im actually enjoying my instrument better than I ever have before - it sounds remarkable and while nobody could make my guitar look prettier, they did great finish work too. Nothing bad to say. Thanks guys.

Got my Ibanez RG there for a set up a while back & some p/up upgrades. . They are pretty expensive, but Barrett did a great job nonetheless.I currently have a customized JEM copy that I am upgrading to original specs. Barrett himself will basically be redoing this whole guitar inside including new Dimarzio 500k pots, Sprague orange drop capacitor, new OEM 5 way switch, Gravity Storm Bridge pup, & dropping in a Gotoh trem with FU Tone block. I am supposed to have all of the parts in this week & plan on taking everything to SEGR in a few days. I will repost a separate review based on the outcome of this guitar & how it sounds & plays when I get it back. So keep your eyes peeled. In addition I also plan on doing a Youtube vid on the guitar when I get it back rating the guitar based on the job that they have done.I have no worries as Barrett is supposed to be the best in the area when it comes to electronics & seems to be really knowledgable about Floyd floating trems.
