If youre into playing bass, this is where you want to shop. Steve is extremely accommodating, and I spent two and a half hours there trying different basses with different bows. Steves approach is solid. He provides information, and then leaves you alone so that you can hear the bass that youre playing... Finding and purchasing the right bass or bow can be a time-consuming experience. Steves approach makes it much easier, and I will definitely shop there again!

Looking for an upright bass? This is the best place to go in the Bay Area. No one has the selection and stock that Steve does. He’s knowledgeable, easy to talk to and just a generally cool guy. The prices are fair, he has new and used instruments that span the price ranges and there simply isn’t this kind of opportunity to A/B instruments and really get a feel for options unless you go down to LA bass works. One the nicest business man I have ever met I felt like Charlie Buckets in Willy Wonkas chocolate factory. He is very polite and patience. He greet us very nicely when we walk in. He probably has the best selection of new and vintage upright basses and he is very knowledgeable about what he is talking about he spent a hour and a half taking us through he inventory of over 70 different upright basses. bassist or not any musician should check this place out and also meet his dog.

I put my guitar on consignment with Steve about 2 years ago. He lent it out for long spans of time without my permission and eventually sold it without informing me. Then he said he needed the money for his own bills, so he couldnt pay me. Hes obviously got problems that should keep anyone from trusting him. Im taking him to small claims court over it.

Ive dealt with Steve for years, have never had an experience other than above and beyond... to the negative reviews - I highly doubt your experiences. Shop is appointment only... inconspicuous location. Have seen Steve deal with my private students and parents first hand - Ive come along for every purchase - 10 double basses in the last 4 years or so, everyone has been happy with both the purchase and shopping experience. We bought an upright bass here and couldnt have been more pleased. The selection is amazing, and Steve was helpful and patient.The store does still exist but its a bit difficult to find.
