Steel is expensive today but service is great at skagit steel
I have used Skagit river river steal and recycling services many times since 1972 to 2021. Frankly I have to say 89 percent of my dealings with this business have gone as expected. However, today I left disappointed. Before driving over I checked the internet for averages on the price of scrap aluminum for Washington state - 35 cents per pound for cans 59 cents per pound for 6063 clean prepared heavy aluminum. I arrived with four, 3×3 thick solid aluminum plates, 4 aluminum car wheels weighing in @ 173 lbs and one large trashcan full of cans weighing in @ 12 lbs The weighmaster couldnt tell me anything about the price per pound when I asked, - he said,d have a clue I only do the weighing. After leaving Skagit recycling with their check and paperwork that showed I was paid 25 cents per pound for the cans and only 22 cents per pound for the 6063 prepared heavy. This is one of those times I felt disappointed with this business. On another more recent visit I brought in two thousand seven hundred pounds of grade A USA bethel prepared steel on my 3/4 ton pickup.Upon leaving with their paperwork that spelled out I sold them unprepared light steel I felt very similar disappointment. For one, I cant fit two thousand seven hundred pounds of light unprepared steel on my 3/4 ton truck - its to small for that kind of volume. Did I get hoodwinked!?Not sure whats going on over there but I do hope they get back to those five star days like remember having most of the time.
Great customer service at the sales office.
I would have given them 5 stars but they are not open on the weekend
Great place to buy steel.
I spent 6 months stripping copper wire for some extra bill money. stripping copper wire is not easy and it is hard to do especially when your doing it by hand. I went to turn it in and get some cash the price for copper is 2.05 lb.. I had 4 containers full of copper and high grade copper at that. The containers themselves without copper is probably between 2 to 5lbs. I used 3 milk crates and one plastic totes to take it all in. ( dont weigh very much) I pull in and the office guy told me to go around back and wait for the person to wave me on through the shop to weigh out my copper. Drive to the back. shop guys come out take my copper and weight only half if it on a scale. (Unless the wheel narrows they use have a scale built in them? ) they didnt weigh the largest portion of the copper I brought. Maybe there is one built into the last can they put it in or something.....who knows....and then they told me to go around front and drive onto the scale. I did and when I looked up at the scale weight of my empty car the digital screen kept on bleeping in and out with a weight difference of 60lbs. ( wasnt sure what to think) then a guy comes walking out hands me a check for 470.50. I was trying to get outta there so they could close up so I didnt think anything if it until on my way home. I pulled over and looked at their gross, rare, and not weight and was completely angry! The gross weight was 330.00lbs. THEY SAID THE TARE WEIGHT was 149lbs!!!! The container I brought it in did not weigh 149 lbs. THEY ONLY PAID ME FOR HALF OF MY COPPER. Im so upset this check should be about 300 more than what they gave me.
Dropped off a trailer load of scrap the other day and no employees were in the yard to unload with machine. I had to figure out how to unload large/heavy steel objects by myself. To top it off they only are paying $20/ton. From now on just going to take my stuff to Zs. They pay fair prices, staff have good attitudes and are helpful.
I bought a 6 long piece of 6 inch Aluminum channel. For a ramp to put my A1 Septic on Lopez motorcycle on the rack i made from steel that came from there too that lives on my A1 Septic on Lopez septic pumper truck. Those guys are great.
Friendly and accommodating. Also reliable in helping to find special materials
Great service, very helpful when Im loading up my metal.
Prices are too low compared to Seattle in fact pays my fuel and extra income to take to Seattle george town recycle depot..also currently Skagit decided to close even after I made it there a min before 4:30 closing time.. very disappointed
Best place to get your steel for all projects, quick and easy!
Just nit worth saving cans...a car full for $3
Took some cans to recycle and they provided great customer service.
Awesome place awesome people
Today was my first time visiting. Its a big place and I didnt know where to take my batteries to recycle. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful, and we got things taken care of quickly. Thanks!
Skagit River Steel was founded in 1958 by Leo and Lorraine Urbick. At that time it was known as Skagit River Junk. Leo Urbick ran the business until the late seventies. early eighties at which time he turned the reins over to his son Charles Urbick.
Convenient, easy to get to. No hastles.
They dont pay for most metal unless you have over 500lbs. They are happy to free of charge if you have less than 500lbs which can be helpful if you want to get rid of something they take without pay.
If you need steel they will give you a deal.
Good public scale
Ask what the SCRAP RATE is Before you dump stuff. I have had several different experiences of individual workers try to rip me off, by rating stuff at what it was not. Took 75 lbs of clean aluminum, but dad left one ladder on top, and the worker said it was mixed and my dad got paid $0.07/Lb, instead of $0.45/Lb. Another time, they wouldnt even pay for a cut-up bronco body, even though told title was being kept because WA Law says title stays with the frame... of COURSE they DID take it for free!! DONT TRUST. ASK QUESTIONS.
Awesome service and great quality metal. Im building a buggy and I called in to make an order and the man that was assisting me in the order department was very kind and helped me with some questions and problems I had. I will use there products for any projects I need done.
These guys are crooks! They weighed my load without me in my truck then weighed me in my truck without load. Ive been scrapping for a long time and this place was the worst business Ive ever experienced! And when you call them on their shadiness all you get is what are you gonna do? Second generation family owned? That must mean you learned to be dirtbags from the first generation! Stupid people shouldnt breed!
The guys at this place are awesome! Excellent service, very friendly, helpful and the money paid out for materials is excellent 😎 Five stars easily...
They only paid me 28.00 for a whole pick up truck full of clean aluminum.i will be going to Zs in b,ham next time.
Friendly, courteous, kind, a great place to go to recycle.
Extremely disappointed the gentleman running the scale weighed my load with me out of the truck going in and me in the truck coming out! Not to mention the prices I got on the nonferrous materials I dropped off for instance insulated aluminum wire five cents a pound when everyone else is paying 3×4 times that insulated copper wire which they rated as low-grade (which Allrite recycling in bellingham) rated medium to high grade I got $.18 a pound for 53 pound spool for a total of $9.54which should’ve been over $20! And aluminum extrusion seventy one pounds @thirty cents a pound come on guys you need the money that bad?because doing business this way is not going to get it for you !. The load I brought in was clean separated and nice and neat and you guys lowballed me and ripped me off for over $60 on a single visit!!!( I called the three closest scrap yards and compared there prices that same day) I’ve been doing this over 20 years I just want Everyone to know what kind of business you are !!! So for anybody out there looking to get a good price for your scrap metal go to All-rite recycling or Northwest recycle in Bellingham they’re honest and you don’t have to worry about calling to get a price upfront you always get the best price there! it doesn’t matter if you’re a little lady or a professional scrapper. So if you’re looking to sell your scrap metal do not go to Skagit steel because they’ll just steal your metal! I hope this review gets you what you guys deserve !!! no more business! you guys are crooks stealing is stealing so you guys should be on the scrap alert you’re the biggest scrap thieves out there.Yours trulyJeff frost
Went in, got helped, dropped off metal, and left in time to go on a romantic date. 10/10, would recycle again.
Great place there a clean facility and very fair price
Was nervous going their, not sure what to expect with a large presorted metal load, very helpful, easy access to drop off areas, and overall excellent experience for newbies.
