I bought a collection of photographs from the website of Antques On Hanover Street. Great service and help with the shipping to Europe. Ellen made sure all the paperwork was done correctly. The pictures are in perfect condition, as displayed on the website.
What a pleasure it has been working with Ellen and George! I am an on line buyer who has purchased many antiques in Europe and the US over the last 35 years. After seeing the RJ Horner vanity on line, I contacted Ellen. She was very knowledgeable, helpful and answered all of my questions. After that conversation I decided to purchase all the matching pieces! They were delivered yesterday by a shipping company Ellen selected. The pieces arrived to Colorado in perfect order. Peter (shipper) helped set up all the pieces. The antique furniture had special attachment mechanisms for mirrors and he did a wonderful job. I am so pleased with my purchase. This set is so gorgeous that I smile when i see it. Thanks for an awesome buying experience.
Weve been fans of Antiques On Hanover for many years. In the past, our purchases have been limited to smaller pieces, but a recent sale prompted us to buy three big beautiful antiques. The pieces themselves were all beautiful and an excellent value, but we wondered how we were going to get them home. We happen to live near Carlisle, but whether you move a corner cupboard 20 miles or 2000 miles, theres still a lot that can go wrong, and moving fine furniture can be quite expensive. I neednt have worried. The owner of the store, Ellen Hughes, explained that the charge for local delivery was nominal. She wasnt kidding. I wont say just how nominal it was; call Ellen for details. But suffice it say that on the appointed day, she showed up with a box truck loaded with our purchases. With a little help from me and my wife, the three of us maneuvered the antiques into our home, where they now give us great pleasure every time we look at them. All of which is to say that Antiques on Hanover is a wonderful resource for people with an eye for antiques and high expectations for quality. Many thanks, Ellen! We appreciate you and your store.
The only reason Im giving this place a 3 star is because it lacked items of my interest and desire to be poor. Majority of inventory was large antique wooden furniture with hefty price tags which I am not keen on. If furniture is your desire than by all means this is the place. As for me, I will most likely not be back.
I have been buying and collecting furniture for over 40 years. One of my favorite shops in central Pennsylvania is Antiques on Hanover. Ellen and George are always willing to share their knowledge as well as their enthusiasm about each piece when asked. Every time I have seriously inquired about something they point out even the slightest nick, scratch or minor defect -- never have I felt they were hiding anything regarding condition. When I look at some of the sophisticated things I have bought from them I smile and think 5 STARS !!!
Overpriced and not very friendly. Also, will not negotiate at all. I wonder how they are still in business? Very little customer service also, and push offish...almost like you are bothering them to be in their store or god forbid, ask a question! 2 each their own but if you serve the general public, and have a bad day (if that was is the day I was there) try to at least put on a face happy face temporarily for me. Thank you.
I purchased an Oak book case in excellent condition. I was impressed with their selection and condition of fine antiques. The owners were nice and very accommodating.
We love Antiques on Hanover St in Carlisle PA! All of their pieces are amazing and of distinguished quality. Over the past few years we have bought quite a few including a sofa, bookcases, wing back chairs and a tall case clock to name a few. All of pieces are complimented by all that visit. We often wish we had a bigger house to bring home everything. Our only problem with the store is choosing what we want most. The owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If they do not have what you are looking for, they will use their many connections to find exactly what you want. When it comes to clocks no one beats George! He knows the ins and outs of all types of clocks and is very generous with his knowledge, he will make sure all is running well. We have bought several pieces sight unseen until delivery and found them to match their very honest (we knew of all flaws through pictures and communications before hand) descriptions. We have also made quite a few trips to their shop. The shop is full of their many wonderful pieces and smells of life. Antique pieces have seen so much in their years that they bring along smells of the past, put many together and you have a unique historical scent. Never a hint of furniture polish or air freshener. We will not shop for antiques from anywhere else! As for their treatment of customers, it has always been friendly and kind. Not just for us, but every time we are in their shop they stop what they are doing to engage with all who enter. No question goes unanswered or ignored. They allow visitors to browse freely and respect your space. They do not hover with over aggressive cheap salesman techniques. For those that say they do not take certain types of customers seriously, you are mistaken. We are young, bought our first piece from them in my mid twenties. We have young kids. We do not match the typical demographic of antique shoppers. However with the help of their shop keeper Miss Ally they have always made us feel welcome. This review is long in length, it needed to be. We see them repeatedly slammed by people who do not take the time to really understand their business. Now you have an accurate review from repeated customers, who look forward to future purchases. Thank you for reading!! Happy shopping, you wont be disappointed!
Stopped by one day with a friend and the person tending the register apparently decided we were not serious customers - after glaring at us for 10 minutes, she actually turned the lights off on us.Most of their things are misidentified and overpriced. Also, the shop positively reeks of furniture polish. Thats always a very bad sign because a good scratch cover polish can hide a lot of damage...Update - I read the response posted by the owner. Seemed to me more of an advertisement than a legitimate response. Nevertheless, I stand behind every word I wrote, with the exception of the part about the register - I cant honestly say I specifically recall seeing a cash register. But the furniture polish, the turning off the lights on us, the misidentified and overpriced items - absolutely accurate reflection of my experience in this store. And yes, I do know which store I was in.
Very disappointing...went Saturday....was there waiting for the store to open at 10 am....waited til 1015...still wasn’t open....glad I didn’t feed the meter
