It was very good we really enjoyed it as we were passing through the town. Food was delicious. Kids got a kick out of the size of the flower tortillas. My born in Mexico mother in law loved it so much. When your passing through this town definitely try it. You will not be disappointed. The staff was top notch very friendly and attentive. They even sale Mexican sweet bread. Its also a meat market.
One of the best Mexican food restaurants Ive ever been to, and I am from New Mexico. Authentic food, delicious, great service, clean. Muy bueno comida, gracias! Bring your Google translate for the menu, it is entirely in Espanol! The meat market portion had a phenomenal selection of quality meats. Impressive place, we will definitely be back!
We visited Carniceria San Juan for lunch during one of the days we were in Carlsbad on spring break 21. We live in Austin, so we know a fair bit about Tex-Mex and a bit about authentic Mexican food as well. The Carniceria San Juan could hold its own against any Austin or Texas BBQ place - it was that good. The barbacoa tacos were especially tasty, and everything was served with a huge smile and the friendliest attitude Ive seen in ages. Thanks for helping to make our short stay in Carlsbad so memorable!
Really tasty Great food, good service! I had the beef enchilada with flavorful cheese, fresh refried beans. My spouse had tasty beef burrito. Listen to the reviews: best food and reasonable prices. The menu was a bit hard to decipher but the waitress brought us pictures. We will be back when in the area.
Amazing food!!!!! We stopped here on our way to Roswell and I am so glad we did. Our food was delicious. The employee at the counter was very helpful and gave us some great recommendations. The best shrimp tacos I have ever eaten. All the portions were large, well priced and flavorful. Can’t wait to revisit when we are in that area again.
The bacon wrapped shrimp is proof that God loves you and wants you to enjoy life. The guac and tacos were both excellent. Bring patience and a translation program on your phone and you will be we will rewarded.
Very nice, friendly staff that successfully worked out a delicious meal within the boundaries of my food allergies. Their meat counter is well stocked and the baked goods all looked amazing. They were also roasting fresh corn out front and that to was delicious. I will definitely be back in the future. Got a dozen fresh tortillas to go as I checked out.
Awesome food!! Great selection of items from huito Mexico and such fresh meat
Great food, a little bit of a wait, but this isnt McDonalds, and I am not in a hurry, I have time. The staff all speak fluent Spanish, music to my ears, I get to practice, each time I get a little better.😊♥️ The prices are fair for what I order, I pay the same amount at other places. I am a vegitarian though, meat is more expensive, as it should be. The food is delicious ♥️.
The tacos were excellent as was the guac and the bacon wrapped shrimp is proof that God loves you and wants you to be happy. Friendly service and fantastic food.
So much here for Hispanic food cooking or grab a menu and order something from their limited but tasty menu!! Friendly staff also seems like they enjoy being there singing and cooking
Amazing. The food is great! If you love spicy food, go to the location because it is great!
1000% Authentic. This is one of the best spots in Carlsbad, and possibly some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. Everything single thing on the menu is 100% hand made out of the kitchen. They have a huge selection of dishes as well as a butchers counter to buy fresh meat of very high quality. The service is excellent and the whole place is filled with items you only find typically in specialty Mexico Import stores. Even the dishes the food is served on are hand made pottery pieces from Mexico. If in Carlsbad and want some good food, this place is a MUST GO. Im no Michelin critic, but for sure a 2 star Michelin Restaurant if I was.
This place is great! I love that they have a small store, meat shop, and bakery inside along with the restaurant. The food was delicious. I had a quesadilla and the cheese they used was so good. The house salsa was really good too.
This joint is amazing. Super authentic, massive portions, we got way too much food, so delicious. Friendly, patient with us who dont habla, love it. Highly recommend
Food here is A+, we ended up coming two nights in a row during our weekend visit. We got an al pastor burrito, burrito Los Lagos, discada torta one night. Carne asada and al pastor torta the other night. Al pastor was the highlight - although all the meat was delicious slight char and crisp bits. They have a drive thru (order and park up front while you wait) so we didn’t even have to go inside.
Service is extremely slow. Staff helped tables around us even after we let staff know we were ready to order. Music in dining area was loud but made worse with kitchen music different and turned us louder than dining music. Unhappy with experience.
Theyre breakfast burrito filled with eggs, cheese & small amt. of crumbled bacon was so greasy I couldnt taste the ingredients. Ugh, no more for me.
Best tortillas ever. If you are someone who thinks that the tortilla doesn’t matter, that’s because you’ve never had one from this place. The chicken in the enchiladas was tender and delicious. Extremely clean in every nook & cranny. Friendly folks.
Such a pathetic place. After seeing the review on google & Facebook decided to start a vacation eating at great reviewed place in Carlsbad but turned out to be the most disastrous one. The taste even a basic salsa was so horrible. The person who takes order cleans the table without washing her hands goes grabs the dinner plates from kitchen & walks to the customer, don’t know why a mask in place is required I never saw any1 who placed the mask correctly it was just covering mouth & not the nose at all. Not sure on what basis people have rated this place but my experience here is was horrible.
Great food. Friendly service. Loved Verde chicken enchiladas
Delicious!!!! Ordered the Carne Asada Nachos, Quesadillas de Carnitas and Pastor and the Specialty Burger with franks n bacon. I never expected to find anything like this being away from home. You have a new loyal customer. It was amazing and the servers were very attentive. Definitely be coming back for dinner.
Authentic and delicious. Fairly priced. No soda machine though so its can soda and bottled water and you pay for each one.
Amazing and i think you have to be a beautiful woman to work there.
This place was so good! We found it by chance for dinner (curbside pickup) and it was so good that we had to come back next day for lunch before leaving Carlsbad. The Asada (anything from the menu that comes with Asada) is delicious, we had tortas, tacos, a pound of asada, burritos, and fajitas and every one in the group was pretty happy with their meals. The prices were super good, the service was pretty fast and efficient. Next time that we go back to Carlsbad for sure we will stop here.
Visited twice. Imported chips are expensive. Beans (that are topped with cheese) are really good. El pastor tacos are delicious.
Delicious authentic Mexican food! Half hour from Carlsbad caverns. Went twice for lunch. Brilliant soup, tacos and enchiladas. Little store sells everything. Amazing fresh tortillas. Do pay a visit.
Absolutely loved the food. The place itself is very warm and well laid out. The food is so fresh, tasty and thoroughly satisfying. Had the tacos with barbacoa and a pozole.
Went here on a whim after being disappointed by the bbq in the area. Boy was I impressed by this place tho. Firstly, the interior is great. It felt authentic, comfortable and the music was very enjoyable. Second, the service was amazing. Third, and most importantly, the food was spectacular. The barbacoa burrito and enchiladas were pretty good, but the carne asada burrito was awesome, so much meat. Because this is a restaurant and a butchery, the meat was super fresh and delicious. I really wish we got a chance to eat breakfast here because it sounded pretty good too. Overall, would recommend this place over any other for any meal of the day.
We ordered breakfast burritos and for some reason they just gave us empty tortillas we didnt notice until we got home and opened them, just tortillas and cheese no eggs no meat :/ maybe it was a one time fluke but it was our first time here. So.
Great service and food. Dont waste your time going anywhere else.
The food was bangin. Everybody was happy and very friendly. 10 of 10.
Not sure if I was starving, or if the Verde Enchiladas with beef was the BEST enchiladas I have ever had. 5 star.
They need a menu in english. Great food. Not american friendly
We were staying on night in Carlsbad and found this place close to the hotel. The food was wonderful and the people couldnt have been nicer or more helpful.
Great food. Always hot and delicious
Their food is Fantastic!!!! And the portions are Huuge! Very good, would HIGHLY reccomend!
Got the Los Lagos Burrito and Asada Nachos on a road trip. The tortillas were handmade, salsa was SO GOOD, their open kitchen was clean, and the food came out fast and delicious. Great detour for us!!
Fiesta shrimp plate and tacos pastor!!! Yummy
Amazing home style authentic Mexican food and grocery.
Food is amazing but the staff needs to work on their consumer skills...
The food and service was great .
One of the best burritos Ive ever had. Great baked goods as well.
The food was good, but the wait in the drive through was 40min, and $14 for a taco plate is ridiculous when you can get tacos just as good or better at other places in town for cheaper.
Good food, great atmosphere, a little pricey.
Venues like this one are a large part of why I love Google Maps and its reviewers. I decided to try this place out after a trip to Carlsbad Caverns based upon the recommendation of maps users. I expected it to be good based upon the reviews I read, and I was not disappointed. We ordered fajitas and nachos, and what we received was some of the best food that I have found in the area. The meat was so good and tender, and the portions were very generous. I will visit this restaurant every time I go to Carlsbad.
👌
This place was amazing! Ingot chicken enchiladas and they were the best I have ever had. It was not like the normal enchiladas it was more like a fajita but it was so good! I am in Carlsbad often I will definitely eat here again.
There is a nice selection of meals to choose from, the breakfast and diner plates are filling. There is a small bakery which I have not sampled yet but looks inviting. Small meat market which has some cuts and the ranchera cut grilled up nicely on the grill.
Hidden dive in Carlsbad. Authentic mexican food. Also a bakery and meat market. Great service and food. Torta was delicious homemade bread. Kids had the burgers. Homemade buns and scratch patties. Really good! If I lived in Carlsbad I would go weekly.
This place is a hidden gem. The food was great. Keep in mind this is not Tex Mex but New Mexican style. Absolutely worth a stop if passing through Carlsbad.
Got meat for fajitas and it was amazing!! Super nice people and they were very helpful!!
Good clean serviceGood food
Good food. Restaurant and meat market. Seating only offers Picnic style tables I find it to be the only downfall about this place. Really great authentic Mexican cuisine. You need to try the Carnitas plate they are very delicious.
Doesnt sell or serve alcohol but the food and staff were good. Menu is in Spanish but the staff speaks great English and offered to translate. Fair price for an entree due to the quantity but seemed a bit high given the quality.
Amazing food❤️❤️❤️
My food was cold. The waitress was rude and did not even bother to check on us. We wanted water from the tap. She wanted to charge us$ 1.00 for water. This waitress will surely chase the customers away. I am a waitress and she needs to be trained to be a better waitress. Wont be back 😠
Man what great food in outof the way place. Plates, by the pound also.Just lucked into it.
No better place then this! Ive lived in Carlsbad for 5 months working Ive eaten in a lot of good places but this place hands down is the best place to eat by far ...the menu is very affordable and the plates and portions are HUGE and delicious! OMG! The salsa is unbelievable! They take time and pride in everything they make! I would highly recommend this place to YOU and everyone. I cant wait to go back!
Delicious!
Being out of town we decided to try this place out after going to the caverns. We based our decision on the ratings and the pictures posted by other patrons, everything was fine up until the moment we took the first bite, the meat had a lot of fat and tasted old. Being that the place doubles as a meat market, I feel that whatever meat doesnt sell gets sent into the kitchen before it is spoiled. The reason for the 2 starts is because their food presentation is pretty good, too bad the taste is not there to back it up.
It is new, fun, and good. This is a must try for any person who loves authentic Mexican food. I really enjoyed the tacos and the tortas. They also have some Mexican pastries that are good too. I recommend this place for the family. Spanish speaking staff though, so try to find the server who speaks English.
This place is a meat market with a bakery with in. I was very impressed on my large order of beautiful cookies for my baby shower. They had my order ready with short notice ( with in one week of calling), they tasted fresh and the icing was just right. Very friendly people. Most of them spoke only Spanish, but they also had a lady help me out in English so there was NO confusion on what we needed. Lots of variety and quality in meats. Simple and easy people to deal with and I will definitely be going back anytime I need meats or something baked for a special occasion.
Great food, love the atmosphere here. Super friendly staff. I dont speak Spanish but the menu is easy to figure out. Worth the trip.
Takes a really really long time to get anything and expensive compared to others.
Carniceria is super pricey but its really good.
Clean. Fantastic meat cuts. Delicious Mexican pastries.
We are from OKC so I have eaten a lot of very good Mexican food. We had dinner at Carniceria on February 14th. The food was fantastic! I had an enchilada dinner and my husband had the taco dinner. We also got an elote (Mexican street corn). The restaurant serves authentic Mexican food. The menus are in Spanish and most of the staff only speaks Spanish. My advice is - if you dont speak Spanish look at the menu online before you go and write down what you want. That way you can show your waitress what you want to order. Some reviews said the staff was rude. I thought everyone I met was extremely friendly and the service was good. However if you dont speak Spanish and you dont have your order written out in advance it will be difficult for all.
Awesome! You cant be in a hurry to eat, but food is very good. Staff so friendly and tried very hard to overcome our language barrier. The elotes are soo good. Small fresh meat counter had nice selection.
Great food its very delicious, but they have 3 year olds running the registers. Unless they were midgets with attitudes. Teach them some manners and get them high heels, and this place would be a solid 5 stars!
The cashier cannot speak a word of English creating a huge barrier for those who do speak English in America. I placed an order and it took 30 minutes to get 1 order of tacos! When checking out it was such a long time to get paid out. Open my order before I leave just to make sure its the right order and sure enough they got it wrong. When I originally placed the taco order, the waitress asked if I wanted onions and cilantro, I told her no onions, she wrote it down and yes to cilantro. Well the taco plate was loaded with them. Yuk! Forget trying to get that remade. Needless to say Im not going back.
I, personally,do not have an opinion since I have not been there. So reading what other people had said about the place and it was about a 50/50 draw. Until I can draw my own conclusion, Ill have to leave it in that.
We had enchiladas and a torta here for dinner. Delicious, generous, and good price. Friendly staff and an informal non-touristy fell. I recommend this place if you are in Carlsbad.
I wish I could make another choice of place to eat. Over price flavor less food. I will never eat there again. Service was poor she was rude and very inpatient during ordering.
Sooooooo happy to have discovered this little gem in Carlsbad. If you love authentic Mexican cuisine, this is the place for you. I was blown away by everything.
Not good. 1 waitress speaks English, 1.My wife and I ordered something very simple, I asked for no cilantro, received my meal covered with cilantro and the waitress forgot half of my wifes order. Their green chili salsa is a sick joke, green chili soup with cilantro.
Delicious drunk shrimp, delicious carnitas, and delicious beef enchiladas! They make their own flour tortillas and pastries and are also delicious. Recommend their papaya drink too!
Great food fresh meat nice people
Havent been there yet, but I here it has really good meat. Must be doing something right, always busy!
The tacos were flavorful and the chips were fresh and the salsa was green chili wonderful. We had tacos pastor and carne asada. Can recommend both. Very authentic Mexican food in a market/deli setting. We were the only gringos in the place and we felt welcome. The staff will help you with translation of the menu if needed.
Im a regular food is good but cooks take some time to deliver the food
Very good food, very good service..
Great flavor! Some of the best food Ive had.
So good!!
This place is phenomenal! Great food, good atmosphere, and good service. Ill definitely be back!
The best thing Carlabad has ever had! Meats and custom cuts are amazing.
Delicious food! Helps if you know some spanish, but the staff is helpful! Get the Carnitas it is superb.
Didnt like this place over priced
Food is always good but staff is rude to customers who do not speak spanish.
Great food. Very nice staff. Worth checking out.
