After seeing all the other 1 star reviews, my experience at this store today makes sense. This is the worst customer service I HAVE EVER SEEN. One of the employes actually pushed me out of the way to get to something on the counter and then GOT IN MY FACE when I said something about it. I have never expereinced anything like that in a retail business before. The manager came over and the employee coitinuned to casue problems until the manager finally said Larry you need to chill. Well Larry, I hope you get fired and and find a job that suits you better. Maybe as a prison guard.

The southern states I go to has great customer service

Nice selection of plants, shrubs, and trees. And bird feeding supplies. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Sometimes it takes a while to find someone to help you during busy times.

If you dont like getting animal food and supplies from a big box store then this is a great place to check out. Good prices on dog food in larger sizes (I paid $20 for a 50lb bag). Friendly staff.

Great shopping for lawn, garden, pet supplies.

This week I purchased a 40 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds and a bag of hardwood mulch. I went to the adjacent warehouse with my receipt so that the warehouse person could pull the two items and load them in my car. I was shocked to find his bandetta around his neck, rather than over his mouth and nose. He made no attempt to pull up the bandetta, which is the least effective of all masks NC has a mandatory executive order to wear facemasks. I shouldnt have to be the mask police to buy a product. Ill make no further purchased from Southern States until they enforce this executive order.

This is the most poorly run Southern States store Ive ever shopped.The manager wasnt concerned about rude employees. Almost everyone there seems unhappy. Spent thousands of $$ there....no more until they get rid of the manager and start offering good customer service.

My wife and our toddler went to get a few tomato cages and ask about bean poles this afternoon. The woman who helped them was abrasive and unwilling to listen, let alone ask follow-up questions to see if she understood their needs. It was close to the end of the day, but that is zero excuse for the treatment they found. Braving the COVID world is enough of a difficulty—a rude reception is the last thing anyone needs.Weve been customers since moving to Carrboro five years ago and have never been received in such a curt manner (thus two stars instead of the one for a good history). Im so put out about this Im going to give money to Amazon, and if we decide to return I hope our next sales associate will be a respectful adult.

Just moved here full time and wanted to plant some plants. Our experience was less that optimal and the employee that helped us was very rude and ended up just walking away, although we were just asking questions. Have no idea her role, but based on a previous review, sound like someone else may have run into her as well.

I appreciate Southern States’ native plant and pot selections; the staff is helpful and courteous. Their physical distancing protocols are reassuring too.

They have high quality plants at a reasonable cost as well as many garden tools and other supplies. They carry a variety of seed that include wildflowers unavailable anywhere else. Jams, honey, and candy are sold there. Bird feeders and Audubon bird seed are sold at a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Ive always gotten knowledgeable, honest, and helpful advice from everyone, even telling me when it was not in my interest to buy something. They have good quality items for a good price.

Pretty good selection, although fruit tree inventory was very limited this year. Focus on equine farming and feed and city gardener. Purchased a few onion sets to plant in garden. The suggested 16 or so tall double paper bag with lots of glue weighed at least 5x the weight of the dozen or so onions. (Used a plastic bag from checkout, but find the ridiculously overweight bag provided very underhanded way to overcharge).

I love going to Southern States. Gorgeous plants, practical tools, local wares, overalls, dog food- what more do you need in life?? Plus the staff are always friendly and helpful. They sell mosquito eradicators for $20 that are saving my life this spring!

Well, its a national chain, however the local staff and manager are wonderful. Honest and helpful. Ive gone in for small engine repairs, and when the chainsaw still didnt work they found an overlooked part need, and completed the repair for free. All I could ask. And, great plant selection, especially during value times.

This is the coolest store just to look around in. Wine bar, epic international candy section, cool kitchen gadgets, tons of local products and gifts. Unparalleled wine selection for the area. The prices are a little higher than youd expect, but you couldnt get most of the stuff they sell outside of a special order catalog anyways. Definitely stop here if you are looking for that unique gift.

Friendly employees, but not quite enough roaming around to answer questions. Perhaps most customers dont have questions to ask in a specialty store like this. Decent prices on a small selection of houseplants.

As a homeowner in Carrboro, having Southern States in the neighborhood comes in really handy. Whether it is yard hand tools like rakes and shovel or chainsaws and leaf blowers, Southern States has good inventory and high quality products. Their staff is also accessible and knowledgeable. While prices are typically more expensive than Lowes and Home Depot, its really not that much more expensive and some items are cheaper. The quality of their service and live plants is better than the big box stores and saving time and mileage makes Southern States preferable over larger stores.

Southern States has all your 🚜 farm, lawn, water feature, animal food needs, especially your feather friends. Top notch nursery! I am always asked if I need help finding things, and employees always offer to load the goods! Tuesdays discount day for seniors!

Skip the pine shaving animal bedding. Over the last few months, the shavings have changed. Now they include rough chunks of painted wood. They are sharp enough that they cut my horses hock as he lay on the bedding. And what are they painted with? Lead paint? There should be no painted wood in animal bedding.

Very friendly staff and good selection of perennials and standard garden store products. Less of a focus on natural/sustainable/organic practices and more traditionally focused. Small selection of indoor plants. Nice that they carry and service Stihl products and glad to have a source nearby for Call of the Wild dog food.

Southern States is a great place for really any landscaping you have to do. They have various fruiting trees and bushes that interest me since I like having my landscape make something I can eat. They also have a great variety of flowers and flowering trees. also if you dont eant to put them in the ground they have a great selection. They also sell pine straw and mulch. Thats just the outside portion of this place.

Staff is really nice and the dog food there is cheaper than Petco and Petsmart

It looks like they have a great deal of quality planting materials. With some out of the ordinary trees and shrubs. I know they sell Stihl products. So I went there to purchase a Stihl weed wacker that takes the attachments. I wanted the pole saw attachment to go with a weed trimmer. They did not carry it or the attachments that went with it. When asked the prices the guy was not sure. And said that he would have to order these things. I’ll have to do my research. But it is probably better to order these things on line and have them delivered to my house. This will cut out the middleman (Southern States) and save me a trip back to this store.

This Southern States location is the local Stihl dealer/servicer in the Chapel Hill area. Rueben fixed up my old saw, gave me a lot of pointers/tips, and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely be my go-to for tune-ups and service work.

I brought in my broken Stihl leaf blower and asked them to order a new pull cord recoil unit to repair it. Instead of following my request, the service tech shortened the cord, put it back together and charged $85 -- no new parts. It worked for a short while, then broke again. You cannot trust a business that does not listen to its customers requests.

Had to have my propane tank filled, it took a while but it got done. The people were good to deal with.
