I got my car towed to location because of check engine came on. I got my codes read, and emissions came up. I sat hours in the waiting area for them to tell me it was only my spark plugs. The next morning my check engine came back on. I took my car back to the dealership, and they tried to act like the code wasn’t there the day before. They tried to rig my car because my car’s warranty ended Is going to end in Halloween. They didn’t want to do the work because they weren’t getting paid for labor. Honestly, I feel like it was a race thing. I was the only black person, and everyone else was white. They literally treated me horribly. I wouldn’t recommend this location at all.
I found the exact vehicle I was looking for and called to confirm it was at the dealership. I spoke with Ester in sales(Tuesday). After sending over the requested information regarding a potential trade in,I was told I would be contacted. After not receiving a call back I decided to reach back out two days later(Thursday). I was told their system was down. I explained I lived 3.5hrs away and would be in town Friday and needed to get things in order for the potential purchase. Once again I received NO FOLLOW UP.I called again Friday to confirm I was in town and wanted to get the information needed as I was ready to make a purchase. I was then told by Ester that I should have received a call but not the vehicle was sold (Wednesday). A little follow up & communication would have been professional. I could have purchased the vehicle on Wednesday had Ester made a small effort for a Customer. I do not recommend working with this dealership if this is how they train their salespeople to treat customersspending a tremendous amount of money.
I prefer to shop and buy cars online, so I inquired online about a specific vehicle at this dealership. I got a great deal on a used Honda from Porsche of Birmingham where I was a valued customer, online and in person.

What a great car buying experience and a customer experience that went above and beyond. Let me explain. Car dealerships that stand behind their used car when a problem exists and are willing to solve the problem in a short period of time are the ones i want to deal with. Ken in sales and Todd in Service made this experience possible. When the battery went dead at no fault of their own, on the car, they sent a mechanic to my residence (30 miles away) to not only jump it, but also left me a courtesy car when the mechanic took the car back to the shop. Now you tell me, name another dealership that will go above and beyond for a customer and stand behind their product. My car was brought back to my residence by the mechanic and it has run top notch since. I have trained customer service throughout the country and have to let everyone know that this is the epitome of Great Service! The team at John ThorntonBuick GMC should be proud.
If I could give a 1/3rd of a star I wouldn’t do that. The amount of cars on the lot shows enough, so you can imagine the customer service! Especially the unknowledgeable service advisor who said it’s normal for a 2019 vehicle to burn oil. Brought in for several oil consumption tests and have been burning 2qts of oil every 1k miles. Now that they’ve done the oil change and it’s been driven almost 2k miles there’s no oil been burned. Stated I’ve been here numerous times and if there’s no interest then I’ll go somewhere else, his response was “ok do that “ no sir I wanna help you!! So if you want a powerwheel or any other kids toy looked at dealing with ERIC RIVERIA I wouldn’t suggest!!! Hope you see this too sir!! Didn’t buy from Ken rupp, didn’t buy from walkers and dang sure won’t from John Thornton!

Absolute worse dealership. Drove an hour and half to buy a Yukon that I made sure they had and haven’t sold it yet. Salesmen was even texting me while I was on the way. I got there and told me “we just sold it”. Also I couldn’t use my credit Union or pay cash. I had to use their financing. Some shady business going on there. Would NOT recommend.

I have purchased 6 vehicles from the Thornton family over the last 25 years. It has always been a pleasure and is the reason I have been a repeat customer. I have never left their dealership feeling like a didn’t get a good deal or that I had been taken advantage of. I will always be a Thornton customer. My sales person for this last purchase of a 2021 GMC truck was Joanna Thigpen and she was outstanding! Very courteous, knowledgeable about the product that she was selling and had a great customer service type of work ethic.
Service center was not helpful and will over charge on time it takes to replace parts. Took my vehicle the day after I bought it to the service center due to a noise from the engine. Service center stated there was nothing wrong and it was working properly. Had to take my vehicle back after one month due to the noise becoming worse. Service center wanted to over charge and then stated there was no records of the vehicle being brought in a month prior. Showing us that they either did not even check the vehicle the first time or they do not keep proper records. We will never use the service center again. We will never buy another vehicle from the dealership. We will always tell other people to not buy from the dealership either. My family has bought multiple cars from John Thornton before, we no longer will use them. Worst service ever.

My service appointment was amazing. I arrived a little early and my service was completed in a timely manner. Person at service counter was cordial and helpful. He showed me to the waiting room and pointed out location of the bathroom and vending machines.
John Thornton Buick GMC is NOT the place to visit to make a purchase. This dealership is very unethical and chooses who they want to do business with; before I arrived it was all good everything was in place for me to make a purchase. Once they saw me they no longer wanted to do business and this is after I drove 2hrs. Keep in mind I do have over an 800 credit score, there was NO trade-in and pricing wasn’t an issue… Please think before buying here. They don’t answer the phone, won’t call you back and when transferred they don’t pick up. All of these people I will pray for because God heals and he still loves them but I won’t go back. When I drove up for service I was met promptly by employee who carried my car to service bay. My oil was changed promptly and I was only there about 30 minutes. All personnel were friendly and helpful.

Spoke with them 4-5 times in order to arrange an appointment to purchase vehicle. They said theyd have it out and cleaned up and ready to go for me. Took off work early and drove an hour and a half to go get the vehicle to be there before they close at 6. Showed up and told me they sold the vehicle a few hours before and didnt hold it for me. They didnt even have the decency to call and tell me. Their response was just oh were sorry about that, well call if we get another one like it on the lot. I told them not to even waste of time, theres no chance Id ever by from them. Wouldnt recommend to anyone.

Advertised a price and then said it was a price mistake and the internet department couldn’t correct the price. It take over a day to get the price from them. They also said you were required to trade a.car on for some of the discounts. Avoid them at all costs. Shady dealer.

I bought a 2019 Ford F-150.After the purchase of the truck the dealership took it to be detailed before I drove off. Mind you it was raining pretty heavily. Needless to say it was subpar for a detail. It still had the same dust on the dash as I saw when I bought the truck. Once I got home I found to go lids under the floor mats. Also found fast food condiments under the floor mats in the rear seats. Moral of the story the used car side of this dealership is not top notch for customer service . Look over your used car very thorough before purchase.

Made my first purchase from this dealership a couple weeks ago and my sales rep was great. Started with a phone call, car was ready to view and drive upon arrival. Overall a pleasant experience with the exception of closing on the loan which took forever. I am assuming they only have one person to complete the final paperwork which takes at least an hour so we spent 2 hours waiting for our turn to spend an hour signing papers. But the deal on the vehicle and the sales rep made that worth the wait. We would definitely use them again

Seems like every time you carry vehicle in for repairs or service you have to carry it back to have problems fixed after repairing the vehicle. some of the craziest answers I have ever heard about some of the causes of mechanical problems! Not using brakes hard enough, using brakes to hard, using wrong tire shine, on and on with excuses.
The dealership did not pay off my trade in on time and I am making a payment on my trade in that they sold 2.5 weeks ago. They knew this yesterday and didn’t inform me until I found I have a payment due on a car I have not owned in 3 weeks. The sales agent doesn’t return messages and they don’t follow up afterwards with the customer. They strictly care about the sell not the customer. Don’t be fooled!And then they try to tell lies about the customer to cover up their mistakes.Do not do business with liars!! In process of finding out why my trade in was not paid off yet I heard several different lies about the balance and what had happened. The truth was they mailed the payment to the wrong address and didnt bother letting me know. Had they told the truth in the beginning I most likely would not have been this upset but I hate a liar.

I was extremely satisfied with the courtesy of everyone I dealt with to complete my purchase. My sales person was very courteous and also knowledgeable. I have purchased several new vehicles from different dealers . This is the first time I was satisfied to leave with a new vehicle the same visit.
We just bought a used buick enclave from them. The trade in and negotiation process was quite simple, but I would be lying if I said the financing piece was a breeze. Its 2021, tax time, and many people just got a stimulus...so it took FOREVER to finalize our deal because of the sheer volume of people waiting to buy a car. With all of that being said, we bought our car and noticed a wabble in the steering wheel while driving home. We called our salesman (huge shout out to Ken) the next day and he arranged for us to bring it back in to get it fixed. They didnt have to do that, but they care about their customers and that should be commended. Go buy a car from them!

I looked online at the John thornton GMC website for a truck that I want to buy. I found John Thornton GMC advertising the 1500 AT4 I wanted for $50k. I called and asked is the truck available as the truck was in transit from the manufacturer. I was told yes by the salesman, after which I filled out a credit app. I have over a 750 credit score, I live 70 miles away and did this before over the phone in addition to internet purchasing a car. I never received a phone call back. I had to call them only to be told well call you back. After i get a phone call back 5 hours later, I get an simultaneous email with the truck, $20k added to the price then discounted $10k, and the truck was still $10k over the advertised price. I was asking what is this, the sales manager tells me, oh the truck you wanted is sold so we have this one, and heres the deal. Come to find out the trucks they advertise are false advertisements to get customers and not the actual prices. The trucks they advertised were below the starting price which is false, misleading advertising. Not only that, my credit was ran, then wouldnt even tell me what interest rate I could get because I need to talk to a sales manager first but I was talking to a supposed Sales Manager After talking to a sales “manager” she says, oh I cant tell you that because you need to drive 70 miles, come in and talk to a sales manager. She proceeds to tell me lets get you financed with GM for this truck I didn’t want, $20K over the asking price discounted $10k still 10k over. No, No, No. dont buy from this dealer you will get the run around like I did and pay more. I went to Jim Ellis, the salesman found the truck in transit from the factory made the deal, took my information and called me when it came in. In was in and out in 30 30-45 minutes.

Great, until we got to financing, I felt there were hidden charges and add ons that i was had to accept which drove my monthly price up, but by then I wanted the car. I really wish I had known about those before going into signing for the car

Edit: see below, found out there wasnt an issue with the dealers gas pump but with the filler neck in the car to where itll only take 1/4 gallon of gas at a time then shut off the pump, and even though the sale was already finalized they didnt tell us. The car is mechanically sound but I dont appreciate the lack of communication or even investigation on their part.We came to look at a specific pre-owned car, and were very pleased. Rodney made the process extremely easy for us, and was very friendly and patient while we balanced the purchase process and entertaining our 2 year old. On top of that, they mentioned topping off the tank but later realized their gas pump was broken, so Rodney gave us cash from his own wallet to be sure we were taken care of. We are not the type to demand anything like that and initially refused the money, but Rodney insisted that the dealership always follows through with what they say, and that we take the $5. So overall our general experience was good, Rodney himself was great, and we love the car!
I bought a 2017 GMC Sierra. We test drove it on a day that was very cold. It warmed up over the weekend and the ac did not work. They did not care to make the repair for me. I won’t go back.
