Ill begin with these guys have phenomenal mechanical knowledge. My first experience with them was very impressive. I previously had my bass boat to a garage mechanic to have my water pump and throttle control cables replaced. Long story short this shady garage mechanic replaced my engine controls with another crappier unit. Shortly after getting it back from the garage mechanic I began having issues starting my boat. He diagnosed it an ignition switch issue. The garage mechanic failed to get my boat fixed in time for my fishing trip. Out of desperation I brought my bought to Berquist to see if they can be of any help. The mechanic very quickly diaganosed the issue as the neutral safety switch and showed me how to wiggle the controls just right to get it to start. Very impressed last June.Fast forward to the fall when I was winterizing my boat I found the lower unit gear oil was about 1/4 water mixed in with it. I brought my boat to Berquist on February 7th to have the lower unit worked on and look into getting the neutral safety switch replaced. The drop off was friendly but odd since they didnt have any official forms available so I signed a roughly written out 8x11 sheet of paper for the work order. We both agreed on a few weeks until I hear back.I called Berquist on 2/25 to get a status update, I was told something along the lines of another week or two. I called on Saturday 3/7/15 to get yet another status, I was told another week until they can look at it. I called again on 3/18/15 to get an update. I was told I was still a few boats behind, but theyll bump me ahead since Im a fisherman and could be out on the water by this time. On 3/25/15 (As you may guess) I need to call them yet again (after hours and left a message) for a status update. On 3/26 I get a call in the afternoon saying they looked my boat and are waiting on a part they need and quote me a price of $605 which I gave them the ok for. I can expect a call at the end of the day. I never get a call back. I wait until 4/3 to call them again to figure out the status of my boat. They tell me the part came in and they are testing it. They found it didnt completely resolve the issue (not their fault it was later found the garage mechanic did a terrible job and cracked the metal in the lower unit apparantly). They said theyd keep working at it, no mention of any additional costs. I call them on the morning of 4/8/15 to get an update (notice the trend yet?) the mechanic explains the issue they found about the cracked metal. I get a call later from them that day that they believe they fixed it and theyll know tomorrow. I get a call on 4/9 finally saying my boat is complete and ready for pickup. I went to pick up my boat that afternoon and it was right when a big storm was rolling in so we were all kind of rushed. The mechanic was very friendly but when he handed me the bill of $900, $300 over our last discussed price, I never bit my tongue off. With the massive storm rolling in and feeling the pressure that they were trying to close up shop I bit the bullet and paid the bill.Bottom line is that they obviously have superb tech knowledge. My boat is running great and the lower unit isnt leaking any more. They plainly do not seem to know how to run a business effectively though. Their communication is non-existant both on notifying you of developments, missing deadlines, and additional costs. I definitely will be trying another marina before returning here. I cannot recommend them to anyone as well, which is a real bummer since they really had me impressed with my first experience with them.
