A board game cafe that is a bar instead of a cafe! Really fun premise and really well executed as well. A ton of board games to choose from, plus a nice beer selection and a decent selection of bar food. Spent a really fun 4 hours here with my girlfriend eating dinner and playing board games, would definitely come again.
Beer and games! This is a fun place, fantastic beers, ciders and even mead to choose from. We also got some snacks, food was pretty good but definitely more snack options than meals. They do MTG nights as well as D&D, even if you dont play, very fun to see. Great place to make friends, the bartender Alison was fun to talk to as was everyone at the bar :)
Great place to go for beer and board games. There is a $10 cover charge (2021) to use their board game library but it can be split between the group. Also, if you dont have friends and am an introvert that doesnt have friends you can come on a Friday evening for a meetup group and possibly make friends! The cover charge then will be $2.50 (2021)! There is a bar that serves various beer. Dont overlook the $12 cider bottle. 500ml can last you the entire evening so it could be worth getting that instead of several cans of beer.
Awesome atmosphere. Very friendly staff, and great beer selection. I look forward to playing games here with friends every Monday night!
Great selection of board games to try out, good draft beer and bottles to choose from, and it’s a fun atmosphere. Prices are reasonable for a table to play games at ($10 for a group for as long as you stay). Their kitchen is open now and the food is pretty good for a fair price. They also have Magic, D&D, and other events weekly and on other schedules. Five stars!
This place is a lot of fun, they have a wide variety of games. Only $5 per person, and if you fall in love with a game they are available for purchase! Me and my boyfriend played 2-player catan for the first time and it was so fun we had to buy it. Will be here again with a group to learn how to play regular catan. That game is around $60 by itself so it’s nice to be able to pay just $5 or I think $10 per table to play the game, we were here until it closed and were having so much fun! Definitely check it out if you love board games!!!
Great place to just hang and play games with friends or even a date night. Family friendly games and more critical thinking games.
We felt something like this should exist, so we made it exist. - Gamers Geekery & Tavern OwnersOwners 5/5Staff 5/5Drinks 5/5Food 5/5Games 5/5Fellow Gamers 5/5I wanted to learn how to play D&D and the players and DMs here are exceptional and extremely friendly. Food is good, drinks are cold, and the staff and fellow patrons are awesome. Take a seat at the bar, strike up a conversation with a regular, and have a great time.
Fantastic place for family fun. Kids menu is limited. No chicken tenders, or Mac n cheese. Adult beverages were great. Definitely will come back!
The best of everything in a social board-gaming place! The staff is friendly and attentive and the in-house game library is surprisingly huge. Better still, this place has a bright, clean open, feel to it--its very much a place to play games of all sorts, but it feels more like a bar that welcomes gamers to come do what they do best. The beer selection is great, the food and snacks are tasty and the atmosphere just what you were looking for. Grab a glass of M&Ms and settle in for hours of fun with your friends.
My husband and I found this place through a board game meet up group. It can be difficult sometimes to make new friends with our busy lives, but we found it easy here.
My family LOVES going here. My son plays MTG, my daughter plays D&D, and we all go on weekends for family board games.
Luv this place, I know all the waitresses star signs and the food is really good and I can get drunk while playing DND. based
Fun place with great food and games. Good for the community.
This place was really amazing its so easy to get so distracted in the game and forget to eat the place isnt super geeked out like we expected but its super cool
Wonderful board game bar and cafe in Cary! The board game selection is deeper than I expected for them just opening and I would expect it grow over time. Plenty of variation of game types from social and easy game to more complex games. Really something for everyone!Expect a $5 venue fee for non-membersIt’s great to be able to play some expensive and complex games before you even consider buying them. The drink selection was a nice mix of beer, mead and wines. Food is your typical bar fare such as fried apps, sandwiches and burgers.
I just had the best time at Gamers Geekery and Tavern tonight! I was a bit nervous it was going to be unwelcoming to board game newbs, but it was exactly the opposite. The staff was welcoming (and I always love seeing a female bartender), the food yummy and well priced, and the games were helpfully organized by category, party size, and difficulty level. They have everything from Hungry, Hungry Hippos to Exploding Kittens to Catan and heavy strategy games that would take 2+ hours. I loved having girls night here and cant wait to come again.
Great place to play dnd o. Wednesdays
Gamers is a fantastic board game bar! Delicious food, good beer on tap, huge selection of games, and a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would absolutely recommend.
The stqff was really nice and it is definitely a fun place to take a group of friends. They have a large selection of games to choose from! I didnt have any alcoholic beverages so I cant comment on that.
Hidden gem in MacGregor Village. The owners and staff are great. What a fun place to spend some time with friends playing games and enjoying specialty mead and ale that would otherwise be hard to find. My group is making this a weekly hangout spot.
Game selection was great and staff was super nice! Will definitely come back again.
Such a cool idea, especially during this covid craziness. A chance to try new board games before buying them. I like that you can buy a game or request them to buy other games. Good selection of beer and great atmosphere. LOTS of tables and the games are taken care of so no missing pieces like at a brewery.
This is an awesome location. We need more of these around the area.
Offers day passes and monthly/yearly memberships to access games. On the second story of shopping complex, near the elevator.
Cool spot to get a drink with friends and chose a game to play from the huge selection they have!
Great spot to play new board games!
Super cool place very fun and chill atmosphere
Great beer list but no vegan options on the food menu?
Great service, atmosphere, people. Fun.
Great staff. Extensive Cider list. A place a geek can be a geek.
Hidden gem. Awesome beer selection as well as food. From ownership to the employees it is always a pleasant interaction. Throw in a huge selection of board games. Always a great time.
Great food even though they are not serving right now but still never felt in danger of covid and had fun
I am a new magic player that was not expecting a great community when i arrived scared the the more advanced players might get frustrated with me but no everyone there was very nice and friendly they also had great food and drinks 100% recommend this place
Really diggin this place! Great drinks and a wall full of board games! What more do you need (other than some d20s) do you need for a fun night out?
Great beer selection, good food, and fun atmosphere.
This place is great! Was in town for a week for training and popped in here for dinner one night and lunch the next day. Huge selection of games to play, or to buy if you find something you want to bring home. Super friendly staff and owner. Nice craft beer selection and a solid food menu. Although you cant get everything on the menu until after 5pm (when the cafe opens), you can get snacks, chips and salsa, veggie platter, etc during the day. The wife and I are both vegetarian and we had no trouble finding something to eat here.
Wish I could rank 6 stars!
Great place to play games and have drink. The staff is wonderful.
This place is such a nice change of pace! When my husband and I go out to dinner, we usually stare at our phones and struggle to talk about anything besides work or our kid. But when we were here and playing silly board games (they have Operation!), we were engaged with each other! It was really great. The food and beer selection are extensive and the prices are very reasonable. Ill definitely go back!
Atmosphere was fantastic reminded me of a place in Athens Georgia called the rook and pawn, took me back home. Very kind staff, A chill atmosphere, and their selection of honey girl Mead is outstanding my favourite is flower power.
Lots of games for all ages. My kids enjoyed playing games while we are lunch. Nice that they had some good beers on tap and there were just a ton of options for games. There were quite a few we have never played and plan on returning to try out.Owner also mentioned they did some corporate events too. May consider doing an outing for work or even a birthday party. Love the idea of this place and looking forward to coming back.
They have a wide selection of fun games for any size of group! The atmosphere is relaxing and cozy and the staff are so friendly and helpful! They offer a narrow selection of food but there are several great restaurants in the same strip mall, so thats not an issue.Being on the second floor, there isnt much foot traffic, but I dont remember seeing an elevator or ramp for those with different mobility needs, just stairs. I may have simply missed them, though. If anyone in your party has special needs, you should call ahead to make sure they can accommodate.I would definitely recommend going often!
Ive been coming here for a few years now and I have never been disappointed. I enjoy talking to all the staff and how easy they make all transactions. Plenty of variety in games as well
My husband and I came here for a date night and I had the best time! Christine helped us quickly learn how to play 2 player games and we joined in with others to play multi player games that were new to me and very fun. Very much recommend to those looking for a fun and carefree way to spend a few hours. Great beers on tap!
Let’s be honest sitting at a bar and just talking gets old fast and don’t meet anyone new. Gamers however is a very different concept -- play games you don’t even own yet. My card group likes playing on weekend nights but bars and restaurants don’t like us taking up tables for hours (which I kind of get). Gamers is a very welcoming atmosphere for playing/learning/trying (new) games before you buy them and even meeting new people at one of their events. There is a small table fee but it seems like a reasonable amount to not have a bar tender ask you if you need another beer when your current beer is more than half full. It’s WAY cheaper than a movie or a sporting event and I even take my kids sometimes as a treat.
This is my FAVORITE place to go play games. Unlike most places in the area open to gaming, the atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. They also have FOOD, BEER, and MEAD! What more could you ask? I have been going here 4 times a month since I discovered it. LOVE IT. I actually prefer it to playing games at home.
Great place to gather for a game with friends and family. Staff is wonderful. The creatively named sandwiches, wraps, drinks, snacks and other light food are worthy. Be sure to order a few cookies and milk and youll feel like a kid again.
I originally kickstarted this, as it was near my home and sounded like a great idea.Overall I thought it was a nice space, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. Standard bar food, nothing super unique, but priced appropriately for what it is.What was most frustrating is I came in wanting to play a specific game that was listed on their website, but the game was not available to play or buy. I really wanted to try this game before buying it outright, and probably would have bought it then and there if I enjoyed it, but it was nowhere to be seen.Overall a great space and I did enjoy playing games there, but the experience was just soured by them not having the game that was advertised.
We love to come here as a family to eat dinner while playing games (and we parents can have our adult beverages to boot!) HUGE game selection that is worth every penny of the venue fee. Its so nice to be able to try out a game before we buy it!
Absolutely fabulous place! Soo many games, food is top notch and the beer and wine selection is fantastic. Prices are modest and the environment is friendly, fun, and super clean. Will be going back on a regular basis and I recommend you do too!!
I like the welcoming atmosphere of this space. There is a wide selection of board games, and a gaming themed menu of food and snacks. I have been a couple times, and I have seen a variety of people here, from families to gaming groups to couples on dates. I think they also host board game meetups, so you could probably show up alone too. It’s a great hangout spot to socialize and play board games.
I go every Wednesday night and play with some friends, the owners sons, and a group of adults that play Commander In Magic the gathering. The food is Great along with the service. The staff are very kind and inviting.
I love this place! Chris and Lexi are the best at taking care of me! Good food, great selection of beer, not as busy on weekdays vs weekends obviously, but the coolest thing is the retro game setup you can use to play snes games. People here are nice, and their food menu is categorized by names of games.
Update (2/28/2020): Increased my rating to 4/5 stars. My below comments still stand if you are planning to just meetup with a single friend at a table. However, I recently enjoyed a game night with a larger group (6-10 people) and paying $10 for the entire party is much more reasonable if you want to get some friends together for a nice game night.I REALLY wanted to love this place, as it seems like the perfect setup - I get to play my tabletop games while enjoying a nice refreshing beer! However, its just too expensive for someone who brings their own game to play when you consider their venue fee of $5 per person is applied irregardless of whether you use their provided games or not. The venue fee is fine to charge if the customer is utilizing the stores library of games, but I should NOT be charged if Im bringing my own game and/or playing system.Im already spending money by buying drinks and food while Im there...charging an additional $5 fee on top of that is a good way to get me not to come back to your establishment.
Great place, friendly staff. Always love visiting the gamers tavern!
Felt bad because we stayed after 9 but we were having so much fun it was hard to leave! Food was good and they have a great variety of games to choose from. The cookies were fantastic! Definitely going back!
Lex behind the bar is funny & she keeps my glass full. The variety of games is amazing. Will definitely return.
Ever-growing selection of available store-copy games to play and its easy to get new ones added by request. Cover charge is very reasonable, even better if you come in as a group. Good draft beer selection, too.
Good food and an awesome location. Plenty of space for all kinds of games. Theyre pretty empty during lunch hours, so service is pretty fast. Theyve got a nice assortment of games to rent and buy.
This is a great place to hang out if you love board games! The atmosphere is great, the food is awesome, and the staff are quick and very welcoming. I highly recommend trying the snicker doodle cookies with a glass of milk!
I am very happy with the service and interactions I had with Lance, he helped us out big time and it speaks volumes to the kind of community here. Cant wait to go after quarantine is over!
I havent been inside. However, I really wanted to come. We love beer and games. But reading the menu just made me so sad. Please have more vegan options so we can come too. Right now I do not want to support business that serves milk and cookies as a dessert (at least have oat milk and vegan cookies listed too)... and all sandwiches are meat and cheese...nothing with mushrooms or tofu. Sad.
Fun and friendly bar with fun board games and themed evenings. Great food and drink selection as well. Great place to spend time with friends!
Awesome selection of games in library! Awesome and friendly staff. Saturdays are the busy day with events happening! My 4 yo loves to come in and play games we dont have!
Great atmosphere. Bartender was super friendly and helpful. Definitely will be regularly visiting with friends.
I really loved this place! Food was delicious! Staff was very friendly and kind! And helpful! I cant wait to go here again !
This is a great fun place full of friendly people. Come on in with your family and play some games! My kids love it and so do I.
Fun, unique concept business! Great place to enjoy a game night with food and drinks. Owners and staff are super helpful explaining new games. They make strategic or more difficult games easy to understand. Kid-friendly, too (big bonus); kids can play their own games at their own table while adults can enjoy something other than Candy Land for once! Food menu is great for multi-tasking while playing games...sandwiches, nachos, flatbreads, other yummy snacks, etc. You arent rushed out as soon as your meal or game is over. We love hanging out here and especially like the fun atmosphere in MacGregor Village, as they often have live music outside. Also the perfect place to join a game with others if youre there alone. Spacious, clean, and updated facility. This is our go-to spot for gaming fun. Give it a try!
Great food. Awesome beer, wine and mead selection. Huge selection of board games, and no time limits on gaming. Awesome atmosphere and friendly staff.
Its a comely little place in an esoteric spot of a much larger mall (check the second floor! Near the Veterans Corps) that caters to the active community of gamers of all kinds. The weekly specials are to die for, whether they be food or cards.
Video game called tournament, boardgames, and role-playing all taking place under one roof. A roof where you can order a decent mead and a sandwich. Im sold!
Great place to play Board games, MTG, and Pokemon while enjoying and meeting new people
Absolutely loving this place. The waitress was super sweet. Im honestly considering a membership! Definitely coming back.
Nice services! Good attention and good cookies. Thank you for all your attention!
Great place for nerds like me to come hang out. Milk and cookies are the best!
So much fun! We were looking for something fun to do with our two elementary and middle school-aged children. There were a lot of exclusively-adult groups playing there, but we definitely felt welcome there as a family, too. They had sandwiches, beers, mead, root beer on tap, salads, and various appetizers and snacks (including made-on-demand cookies fresh out of the oven). The staff was super warm and accommodating, and they had a HUGE variety of games, new, indie, classic, the lot. We stuck to the older classics this time -- Trouble, Uno, and The Game of Life, but I want to get the kids to try Catan Jr next time. Our son is very hard to please when it comes to dining out, and he begged us a few times while we were playing, Mommy and Daddy, can we PLEASE come here ALL the times we go out?! A big win in my book!
Wonderful place!! Would 100% recommend
Great place to play games and get something to eat and drink (beer and wine). Serves primarily sandwiches and appetizers.
Great atmosphere, good food and tons of games to choose from. Lots of fun, well be back.
Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Excellent selection of games.
Incredibly well curated selection of highly rated board games. Great atmosphere and beer!
Massive amount of board games, good beer selection, and great food. Cant ask for much more
Great place to hang out and have lunch and play some games.
Good place to buy board games or MTG cards. I didnt have any of the food or drinks, but they looked good!
Great atmosphere and fun people who run it. Great experience 👍
Pretty sad to see a local game store resorting to this level of borderline thievery. Go here if you would like to overspend on subpar food and beverages. It is a shame when the owner publicly crowd funded to start a business that he cant afford. Would be better if the prices were more fair and the business made an effort to support the community.
Very homey and great service! Will definitely go again!
Great time hanging out with family playing games and enjoying good food.
BLUF: Lots of promise, friendly staff, clean environment, still working out details. A lot of this review is coming from the only other place I know like this, Mox, which I encountered often on the west coast.Service: Very friendly, but seemed very new. They didnt seem familiar with the menu, but more than willing to find out and get you any details. They greeted us very friendly and made us feel welcome. Likewise, they seemed unable to assist myself and my daughter in choosing a board game, whereas Mox the staff seemed almost too eager to tell me exactly what boardgame to try.Food: I want to rate higher here but man. This was rough. The pretzel platter was decent enough, if a bit small. The Rampage (their take on a charterie platter) was crackers, salami, old sticky prosciutto, blocks of cheddar/gouda, and pitted olives. Idk, it just wasnt a real platter to me, and very disappoitning for the price. The chips and salsa were genuinely just chips with a typical jarred salsa, the type of thing most places give you free for sitting down (here $6). It was ... disappointing. I would eat before coming again. The beer was solid. Not great - not local micro brewed favorites (Bond Brothers and Fortnite around the corner), but decent brews popular in NC (Trophy and Pernicious).Atmosphere: Great - lots and lots of seating, private rooms, and honestly the whole place felt welcoming and clean. I liked this the most.Selection: Relatively speaking ... very few games to choose from. Again, Im just going off other places Ive been to. There were maybe 1 shelf for every 4 I was expecting. That being said, the selection they had was solid, ranging from any type of tabletop interest. I feel like I could explore this place for months and keep finding a new gem.System: I guess Im spoiled by the west coast version of this place - Mox. You can sit down, eat, and play a game, and get a discount on the game if you end up buying it. Like 15% off. This place, by comparison, charges you just to sit and play, and you pay full price. I want them to succeed, but I cant tell you how many times I bought a game at Mox because of that initial 15% investment for having even tried it. Likewise, the thought of returning and PAYING to try a game out is as dissuading as Mox would be inviting to try something new.Overall: I will definitely try this place again. Ill eat before I go, and only go if I have more people to try the games out with ($10 max per table, vs $5 per person), or I would go just enjoy a beer and hope to meet some new people with similar interests. Its difficult to want a place like this, but to know it could be executed so much better. I feel like 3 stars is a solid compromise on all my hopes and disappointment.
The place has a good vibe and the workers are very helpful and the food is very good and has an amazing atmosphere
Owner and staff are very friendly, lots of games to choose from. Will definitely come back again.
Great beer selection, friendly staff, and decent food
This is an awesome place to hang out and play board games or D&D
Amazing place, great atmosphere, great service! Planning to spend plenty of time there going forward
Amazing place with an amazing selection of board games!! Highly recommend!!
Good food and gaming environment. Been playing at the store for years
