Surprisingly soft! Definitely a difference between shaved ice and your typical snow cone. This is not your average snow cone for sure. Super refreshing, tons of flavor options, quick service and they were so nice! A MUST stop on these hot summer days. I enjoyed sitting in the shade on the picnic benches. Cute and colorful atmosphere is cheery. Ill be back again!

Dont like snow cones? Youre in luck! Shaka Shave Ice is NOT a snow cone. Ive never had such a fluffy, refreshing, perfectly sweet (but not too sweet) treat except on an island vacation. Shaka brings the taste and experience of Hawaii to downtown Carrboro. Well be going a LOT this summer!

This planes flavors taste amazing. No matter how outlandish it is. For example this banana flavor. Yum!

Having only been to Shaka when visiting my sister, I LOVE going there anytime I visit. It is about roughly a four and a half hour drive from where I live, so it is an absolute treat. They have a wide variety of offerings, the staff are very patient if you have questions, and there is plenty of outdoor seating in the summer and spring.

Trust in your local guides first and foremost. The workers were extremely nice and had great aloha. And who complains about cups really every shaved ice i have had comes in a cup with a narrow bottom and flared top. The flavors were really good and the price was decent. Would definitely go back for a hot day treat. If you do not know how to rate a business stay off the site. We can tell when people are just being petty.

Colorful little tropical island feeling place that serves shaved ice. The regular size can be shared. Shaka Shave Ice has plenty of flavor combinations. They have three picnic tables and tree stomps out front so you can sit down and enjoy your sweet treat.

Pros:-- The location is nice-- The building is cute-- I thought the shaved ice was good, but my kids thought it was too sweetCons:-- The plastic cups are wasteful. I would have hoped that they would have found a way to be more environmentally friendly.-- The cups are made all wrong. They are narrow at the bottom with a big flare at the top. And the ice is not packed down into the bottom of the cup. It is therefore very difficult to eat without spilling the whole cup of shaved ice.-- There were small kids working there. Our order was taken by a teenager and the woman shaving the ice was an adult. Everyone else was underage. There was a small child (perhaps three years old) climbing all over the counters. There were very young girls (10 years old at the very most) pouring the syrups on the ice and completing the orders. I like helping my young children play with food in the kitchen at home, but I absolutely dont want a young child making the food that I purchase at a restaurant.

Love the texture of the ice and the service... Any chance youd consider having natural syrups, dye free and with no artificial flavorings?? I definitely wouldnt mind paying more for them!! Also, the orders were not made in the order they were placed... People who ordered after us got theirs before me and my husband... Thanks for the consideration

The service and quality of products are good. Prices are reasonable. The only reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is the lack of consistency in honoring the posted hours. We stopped by several times and even during posted hours they were not open.

Visited today while it was extremely busy so I am more forgiving of the quality; however, I was disappointed when the workers forgot to add my third flavor. Also, at the bottom of my and many others shaved ices, there was about an inch of plain shaved ice. Im assuming this was because the workers were in a rush. Other than that, the workers are friendly, the building and atmosphere is nice, prices are fair, and most flavors are great.

Great concept. Flavors are hit and miss. The lychee was awesome as was coconut. The guava, strawberry and passionfruit are definite misses. No real flavor to speak of, just sugary sweet. Nice they have outdoor seating and music. We got seven of their regular size. They had inconsistent amounts of syrup on them and ice cream amounts on the bottom varied greatly. Some had twice as much as others and some of our ice was still just ice since not enough syrup was put on. Appears family run with two young ladies (maybe 10-13 yrs old) doing much of work. Thats awesome but they could use more training so portions are more consistent.

I visited North Carolina a few weeks ago and tried Shaka Shave Ice for the first time. This is the best Shave Ice Ive ever had. The owner was so sweet and loved making recommendations. My recommendation would be to try the cream on top and ice cream on the bottom. We are planning a trip back to NC this summer and I cant wait for my kids to eat at Shaka 🤙

A reasonably priced fun summer treat. This is one of our go to places if we’re looking for dessert but also want to be outside. It has a fun tropical beachy vibe that is nice in the summer when you’re landlocked and yearning for the coast!

This is different from any shaved ice Ive ever had before. The ice cream from the bottom and combined with the cream swirled on top gives a richness that soaks all through the sweet iciness and is absolutely delicious. Also, the decor is super fun. Great addition to Chapel Hill/Carrboro.

$6 for some ice with sugar syrup is already a rip off but to add on to that it had hair in it and some green string that might have been grass. The large cup was also dirty and had lint around the edges and no doubt inside the cup as well. I hope that they start making sure the stuff they use is actually clean.

The shaved ice is very good but the staff are very inattentive and apathetic. The prices arent very reflective of the fact that youre just getting cups of shaved ice with sweet syrup thrown in, either. I wouldnt reccomend it unless its the only shaved ice place nearby, which unfortunately seems to be the case.

My first time there was amazing!!! It was about a year ago. My 2nd time was today, It wasn’t as amazing as the first time :(. I asked for Blue Raspberry & it tasted like Coconut or Something else. I asked the guy & he said it was right. But the flavor wasn’t the same as I had before. So I thought maybe they did something new to it which I didn’t like!! I kept it but Didn’t eat it I gave it to my Daughter & Boyfriend. We went to get some water & Right as I was drinking it had stuff all in the water I was very disgusted by it. Sucks My 2nd time Sucked :( so disappointed

Legit Hawaiian shave ice, right here at the corner of Carrboro and Chapel Hill! The next best thing is the same dessert in the North Shore of Oahu where Hawaiian shave ice began. Im wondering if we NCans could handle it if they added adzuki beans as an optional topping...

A bit expensive, but offers a very unique dessert of shaved ice that is more like sorbet than a snowcone.

When we arrived there was a sign that said, “be back in 15 minutes”. We waited 15 minutes. Then, there was only one person working there and service was obviously slow because of that. They were missing flavors and didn’t offer ice cream because they were out. It was disappointing.
