Wow what an experience! Small mom and pop business but this place has more for the fisherman than any of the other bait and tackle shops around. I bought a rod and reel, bait and a tackle box, and am very pleased with the quality. The owner helped me select my items and also gave me 10% for signing up online. How cool is that! Because of my very positive experience today, I will now continue to shop at Chesapeake Bait and Tackle for all of my fishing needs!

Great suggestions and tips of good spots and recommendations of what bait to use when fishing rainbow trout. They tasted delicious when I pan fried them with a little corn meal!! Definitely go here if you need some local knowledge of the hot spots or any of your fishing questions!

One of the best bait shops around, They honor law enforcement and military with a slight discount, always professional always willing to go the extra mile, called in recently and was looking for bait for catfish, they explained they were out of what i needed but offered to try to find some for me, he was Enable to that day however the following time i entered the store he remembered he didnt have what i needed and gave me a few bonuses and apologized, also gave me a hot tip on the location of some fish and we had a very successful day fishing from the shore. they always ask about everyones trips and always make it enjoyable to prepare for your day of fishing look forward to continuing business!

I have been looking for a nice place to buy blue crabs that’s close to home for quite a while. I drive by this place every day and never noticed the sign outside that said “live blue crabs” until the other day. I went in and the owner’s son greeted me with much respect and courtesy. I told him what I wanted and he said they could provide it for me. I told him that I wouldn’t need them until the weekend and he said that’s fine, but I would have to pay for them now. At first, I wasn’t comfortable with giving him money for something that wasn’t “guaranteed”, but he very politely explained the rational for needing the money in advance. His father then came out and reinforced what his son was explaining and said that if the crabs weren’t available on the day I needed them, that I’ll get all of my money back. He even signed the receipt. After speaking with them, I felt very comfortable with paying for the crabs in advance. The day came when I needed the crabs and I walked in and he remembered exactly what I ordered and needed. Suffice it to say, I was given the crabs I ordered and they were in perfect shape (all males). Awesome. He even had a version of “Old Bay” seasoning that was delicious. It looks like I’ve found a place for my crabs now, thanks to Chesapeake Bait and Tackle. Good people, good crabs and a very good environment. If you ever need crabs and live in the Deep Creek area, give them a shot. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks again for the awesome crabs and customer service.

I purchased 10 one pound sinkers for possible use other than fishing and explicitly asked the owner if I could return them if I didnt use them. He said yes. When I went to return them, which was over a month later because I travel quite a bit for work, he would not take them back. Saying, it has been too long. He never said anything about a time restriction when I purchased them.If I am not mistaken lead sinkers do not spoil or deteriorate with from being kept in a bag in the garage. I explained that I never used them, and showed him that they were in perfect condition (still shiny in fact). He did not take them back so I left them on his counter without getting my refund.It was only 40 bucks. If he needs the money this badly then he should close his store. There are plenty of good bait shops in the area so please patronize them and avoid this one.

Bad experience. Alot of dead crabs no compassion. Couldve gotten whole family sick. Smelled bad with ammonia and when I called them back they said just rinse them off they should be good. Never again worse crabs I have ever had in my life.

OK. So, no judgement intended - but, when we got there, the young man minding the store was asleep. And I mean - we were making quite a bit of noise and he was seriously out and didnt stir at all. Another customer came in and apparently found a way to rouse him. Once this young man was awake, he was extremely knowlegable and very friendly - even apologized for having been sleeping. They carry a lot of gidgets & gadgets for the novice to the experienced fisherman.
