The lady at the window would not sell me 1 yard of topsoil because I did not have a tarp to “cover it”, keep in mind I buy bulk mulch and topsoil all over hampton roads including several other vendors in Chesapeake. I went and bought a tarp and now the guy operating the loader says I must lay it under the dirt!!!! Has anyone tried shoveling anything off of a tarp??? This is nothing more than them being power hungry... they claim the city makes them do this, yet no other vendors in Chesapeake require it!! I will never buy here again and hope this gets seen by every potential customer. Oh, they conveniently sell tarps, I went elsewhere for the tarp, they charge triple the cost over Walmart!!

Bought mulch from them last year and the color ran out of it with in weeks. Looked dried up and old. So this spring we didnt want to pay for something that wasnt going to last so we decided to buy stones from them. After 3 attempts of stopping by during their normal working hours (as advertised) we finally made it in there. I asked what their normal office hours are and she stated we are always here unless it is raining. She said the companies dont work when it is raining out. So take note...if it is raining out they are CLOSED. The little people dont mater!!!!We were shopping for brown stone to go in our flower beds. The lady stated they do not cary brown stone so i asked the lady behind the counter if she knows of a good location to get it. She stated, i dont know, we dont cary that so i dont know where they would get it from. Very unfriendly and unhelpful. So from that i figured maybe they dont make that any more and i went ahead and purchased the neutral stone from them. Paid almost $900 for it, thought i could return it real quick and get my money back if i found something better later on that day since i paid with my debit card.So i went to my car (in their parking lot) and sure enough every other dealer has some sort of brown stone available. So i went back up to them to return my purchase. She returned it as credit. She had no clue how to return it as debit. So now i have to wait 10 business days to get my money back.Lesson learned...do my research before i hand over my card and if a company has shown you their true colors multiple times do not return there. The color is not going to change.I

Awesome customer service! With in minutes of getting there and looking at the selection of stone the tractor operator saw our 2 year old admiring him driving around, he pulled up and let him take a lap around their lot. We had the happiest 2 year old when he came back! The lady in the office was very polite and patient as i debated which rocks I wanted and asked questions, then to wrap it all up the delivery driver of the 4 yards of stone took the time to squeeze through my gate, that most drivers wouldve said no and dropped it in my driveway. I will definitely be going back when its time for more yard materials!

1st time I’ve used TC. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to calculate how many cubic yards my truck could haul. I never looked at the price chart but when the cashier told me how much I owed, I was pleased that the price and quality beat out any big box store.

I am a big fan. I am a homeowner and always doing home improvements that involve Sand, mulch, Dirt, or rock, you get the point. Tri City is 2.5 miles from the house, so yes that helps, but they are also very nice and keep the yard organized and I am loaded and out in minutes. Time is money, prices are good and I would rather support them, than another big box store. They are a good, honest, hard working family owned and operated business.

I ordered firewood Oct.2018 and stored under a covered area on my porch. It is evident the wood was not seasoned for a sufficient amount of time; also arrived heavily covered in mud. Large water content in the wood, starting fires is difficult and requires too much kindling. Wood sizzles as water is burned off. I do not recommend purchasing fire wood from this company.

Im sorry to have to write this, but I ordered seven or eight cubic yards of mulch from Tri City a while back. Over time, I found much of it that appears to be infected with fungus.I just want to let folks know - they may want to consider applying some kind of fungicide to mulch they order (regardless of who they order from). Why? Unfortunately, if you take a very good look at the trees in Hampton Roads, youll notice that just about every species of tree appears to be infected to varying degrees - with FUNGUS! You can see FUNGUS growing all over tree trunks & all over the branches - even in the top of the canopy. What does this mean for the MULCH business?IMO, when you order MULCH - you are ordering MULCH that is infected with FUNGUS.When an infected tree is shredded to make mulch - the mulch gets contaminated with FUNGUS.I kept finding areas of mulch with a very fine powdery fungus growing directly ON top of the mulch itself. This type of fungus appeared to be dark brown to rust colored & when sprayed with water (while watering the beds) - I noticed that this powdery fungus would become airborne when sprayed with water - and waft around like a very fine dust/powder. I almost thought it was SMOKE - because of the way the powdery fungus wafted up when hit with water from the garden hose.Unfortunately, it appears that many of our bushes/shrubs may be now be infected (theres the same green looking fungus on our shrubs/bushes & its growing all over the bark). Im also finding that I think its slowly killing the trees/bushes/shrubs - as I am finding more and more dead/dying branches, and some species are infected to the point that they will be dead soon (especially Red Tips). Even our hardy species of hydrangea appears infected. If companies are shredding trees that are infected with fungus - then dont be surprised to find fungus growing on your mulch & possibly infecting your plants. Also, now that the price of mulch per cubic yard is so high - you may want to be on site to make sure youre getting what youre paying for. Its almost unbelievable how much they are charging for fungus infected mulch - not to mention the high cost of delivery - even with gas at $2 per gallon. It may now be cheaper to buy mulch by the bag - when its on sale at Lowes or Home Depot - and just use it sparingly. Its hard to imagine paying over $300 for ten cubic yards of mulch delivered. I may have to invest in a chipper and make my own mulch with the insane price of mulch. I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for shredded fungus infested trees.

I love how conveniently close they are to my house and that I am able to get in and out of their quickly. The prices are fair and comparable to other local landscape supply companies. I am a homeowner that buys about 5 - 10 yards of mulch/dirt/etc from them every year and the ONLY reason I didnt give it 5 stars, is because their hours of operation.Because they close at 4 pm during the week, Ive had to spend my lunch hour going to get what I need, then drive around with my truck weighed down the rest of the day. They close fairly early on Saturday and not open at all on Sunday (when most homeowners have the time to work on their yards, IMO) so I often have to drive out to Enchanted Forest during the weekends if Im not ready for mulch before 1 pm on Saturday.Other than the hours of operation being a personal inconvenience for me, Id give Tri City 5 stars. I love the material and how organized the place is.ALSO, In response to the negative review by FOOBARRED. A couple things bothered my by what he wrote. Keeping in mind that other than chipping up wood, I dont know anything about the process of making mulch.1st - He stated that OVER TIME he found that his mulch appeared to be infected with fungus. Leaves me to question the following. Could it be that OVER TIME, the trees and bushes in HIS Hampton Roads area yard spread the fungus to the mulch? Was he able to prove that Tri City sold him fungus infested mulch? Was he able to prove that the Hampton Roads infested tree fungus (that he seems to know so much about) didnt just eventually make its way to his yard, OVER TIME? Ive bought a lot of top soil, compost, rocks/stones & mulch from Tri City over the past 3+ years and my yard has no fungus issues. Kind of crappy of him to blame Tri City for an issue he feels is extensive in the Hampton Roads area.2nd - If FOOBARRED invests in a chipper........ would he travel outside the Hampton Roads area to purchase wood that is proven to be fungus free? What would he add to his personally chipped wood mulch to ensure that the Hampton Roads tree fungus infestation wouldnt eventually spread to his self chipped mulch, OVER TIME? Would all that effort be cheaper than paying the insane price of mulch? Idiot
