Attended Saturday lunchtime for a meal as part of a girlie day out with my mum, sister-in-law to be and daughters for my birthday. Food was excellent, waiting staff were attentive and happy to make changes to dishes for us.We had quite a wait for our mains due to a ticket mistake but they rectified it quickly without trying to lie or cover up and gave us a free round of drinks. Atmosphere was brilliant and we left feeling full, happy and definitely willing to go back
After walking out of another restaurant because they only had tables for 4, and I was on my own, and they didnt want to give me one, I ended up at Bills.....and so glad I walked out of the other place.....what a lovley atmospheric place and funky decor and very attentive staff....what a joy. ....Calamari to start....with a slight chilli kick followed by chicken with mushroom sauce....it was delicious, 2 glasses of wine and coffee....a bargain at £42....if return to the gorgeous Cambridge, I will be back....thank you Bills for making me feel welcome 😀
Lovely restaurant, exceptional waiting staff. Food delicious only negative service charge 12.5% added to bill, this tops up the salaries of all staff. Tips should be paid direct to your server.
Lavish decor to make you feel in a really trendy place, has a slightly Latin and warm feel to it, like it could be central America etc. The food also fits that theme, plenty of spicy options available, though meals are fairly wide ranging in variety / origin. The restaurant was busy spacious. Service was a bit slow but accommodating of need to be sped upwhen told. A popular place. Not cheap but not overly priced either.
The waiting staff that served our group of 4 were fantastic. Happy to take part in banter and helpful with meal & drinks advice. The food delivered to our table was presented well, arrived hot and every bite was delicious. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Bills is a chain, but this one stood out to me as one of a kind and it was definitely the staff that made it so.
Lovely atmosphere, waiters were attentive but not too attentive, they for the balance just right. The Sea Bass was lovely.Im in Cambridge for two weeks and will make a point of going back.
Great food but even better service,my sister is allergic to garlic, and they went out of there way to check the dish she had chosen, who would have thought that a berger bun would have garlic in it.thank god they checked.can not thank them enough.we will come back because we know we can trust them to check the meal.thank you again, great meal and a great day meeting old friends.
Sadly, service was slow. The food when it arrived was of excellent quality but it was sadly warm at best. The waitress offered to get another cooked breakfast but we werent prepared to wait again.
Been a huge fan for years but have been disappointed on my last couple of visits to this and the Liverpool restaurant. The quality of the cooking and presentation has gone down and the staff, who were always brilliant, seem a bit disinterested. Also noticed that water for the table now comes bottled and is charged for.
Generally our full English was really good and the staff were very helpful and polite. My only gripe would be the waitress removing our coffee cups before we had finished our meal. I dont really like this in normal times let alone during covid times. We had worn a masks to get to the table and then the waitress leans across us to get the cups putting her even closer.
Food is ok and the seat is comfortable. Is relax to have breakfast and rest there. Just wonder why it use US bacon instead of UK bacon. It is in UK!!!
Dined at Bills on Thursday this week. Nicely laid out and comfortable. They have a very nice menu and had some specials which were explained to us. Six of us dined and had six different meals. The food was very good and presented nicely. Highly recommended, hope to go again
The 12.5% service charge does not go to the staff on shift. Make sure to tip in cash or not at all. Food quality is good and staff are very friendly considering what the company is doing to them.
If I could give less than 1 I would. Tried to get a table just for a quick drink, place was empty but the obnoxious jobsworth women on front door said no immediately as we hadnt booked, when hospitality is struggling to get back on their feet may be companies should employ some at front of their company with some customer skills.. If you want to meet one of the rudest people in Cambridge try Bills
I came here with my husband for lunch. Food was good with different options. Restaurant was busy but staff were still attentive. However, we didnt like that there was a lot of hidden upselling upon being seated I.e., would you like water for the table? Sparkling? Still? Can I bring you bread, cheese or olives?. With no mention of the cost, we had believed these offers were complimentary, as it is in some other establishments. This led to a surprise when receiving our bill. We had asked for water for the table which was an additional £3.75 that we were not expecting to pay for. We were also not aware of the automatic 12.5% service charge. Wed be happy to pay that for the great service, but should have been aware of it prior, apparently you can opt out (making you have to have that awkward interaction). Again, another surprise. Overall, we spent more than we expected which resulted in an overall unpleasant experience (extra £7).
What can I say, this establishment was superb . Food was okay but the service and talent was there especially Lewis.
Had eggs royale, very nice and eggs cooked really well. Staff are friendly and the decor is a really nice relaxed style. Decent coffee too.A bit too much ice in the orange juice!
Visited Bills today for breakfast as the restaurant we wanted to visit was full. Wished we had kept walking. Staff friendly enough but the breakfast was awful. We both had the traditional breakfast, Cumberland sausage - tasted funny. Double yolk egg which was overcooked but somehow it still had the membrane over the yolk, mushrooms - goodness knows what oil they had been cooked in, I had opted out of having tomatoes. The best thing about the breakfast was the toast and butter. The whole restaurant smelled of kippers too. The toilets needed a jolly good clean, the floor, the walls, the tiles, even the toilet brush holder was covered in dust. Sorry Bill, but we won’t be returning any day soon. Definitely a thumbs down from us.
Great atmosphere, good food. Had a problem with my main course, however it was immediately replaced and not charged. Will return when next in Cambridge.
Nice breakfast though tea was served with milk (twice) which had separated. Food was good, though maybe a touch overpriced. Most disappointing aspect was the waiter pointing out it was not worth paying the service charge on the bill as none of the staff ever see it. Difficult to know this one way or the other but sad to hear if true.
Lovely atmosphere on a Sunday morning. Would have been 5 stars but the coffee was not hot!
What a pleasant surprise we had! Amazing food & outstanding service by the staff, we didn’t know we were gonna get so pampered! Georgia was our server and she just made our day so much brighter with lovely conversations, a lot of good tips about exploring Cambridge. She was very engaging and gave us such a good impression about the brand, Bills. This was our one of the best service in the restaurants in UK.
Ive been going to Bills in Cambridge for almost ten years now and always rather enjoyed it. It was never top end for food but the atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, after our visit the other day I doubt well return anytime soon. My partner ordered fish and chips, which is often a safe bed (you know what to expect). This however came as something Ive never seen served as fish and chips before (the taste was worse). They are now serving what appears to be frozen fish fingers and frozen breaded calamari, coupled with chips that were under cooked in oil, that I question when it was last changed. I had a burger (which was okay) with similarly bad chips. We were in a hurry so had paid our bill before even tasting our food. It was so poor that my partner left pretty much his entire meal on the plate and we just split my burger. I will say the smoothy I ordered was good, but they have started serving it in a much smaller glass and still charging top price. On our way out we tried to mention the food to the manager and he frankly didnt seem interested. Not only did he not offer any kind of credit for the meal (which I wasnt really bothered about), but he didnt even apologize for the bad food served. Ive worked in restaurants, so I know how hard it can be and that customers can be challenging, so I was being nice about it. Im sure Bills will stay in business, as the tourists return to Cambridge, but if this is what they now deliver they wont be seeing the locals in there anymore. Pity, it used to be a place I went to regularly.
Not enough seats but bring you in anyway. Ordering was quick but delivery of meal v e r y slow, waited circa 40 minutes without anyone checking on us, food when it arrived was good but overpriced, fish finger sandwich was mostly bread. Hit and miss on amounts, wife had a burger and was happy.
REALLY? A flowerpot for dessert? Yes. And it was perfect. Chocolate soil, cheesecake and passion fruit to complete a great meal.Every course was delicious and the service was an absolute delight. With a crowded restaurant and covid-19 protocol to observe (including my first temperature check before we were able to enter) the staff were all delightfully cheerful.
Great venue, great food, lovely environment. As someone who is unable to eat wheat/gluten, this is a particularly good choice for me, loads of food options as well as an extensive veggie option.
The staff were welcoming and though service to take our order was slow it was explained that they were very busy that night which was fine as their and our safety was important. The staff were friendly and helpful. My steak was very good but my daughters chicken burger with £2 extra charge for cheese came without the cheese. This was taken back to put cheese on it. By the time it came back Id nearly finished my food as it took the best of 10 mins. When my daughter started eating it it was still hot and nice, thats until she got to the back half of it and said it was burnt. We opened the bun and the coating of the chicken was black. At this point she no longer wanted it and was disappointed as shed taken me out for a meal as a thank you for bringing stuff up for uni. I did take the burnt coating off But shed lost her appetite for it, I did the dad thing and ate it minus the coating. The banoffe doughnuts I ordered as part of my meal were great and I did get her to share. Maybe we shouldve complained but after a long day and then the trip there we just wanted to eat and go with no more delays. Shame as the place and staff were nice, but dont know if I would Go back.
Coolest coffee place ever!!! Wonderful place!!! The staff were so friendly and the food was fantastic. Food was presented well and served promptly. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. Lovely food and very friendly, attentive staff. Would highly recommend and visit again 🥰
Used to have high expectations for bills but after this evening that is no longer. The food came out really bland and missed ingredients that were described in the menu.Only positive thing I can say about the meal is that the manager gave us a discount.
Went there for breakfast both days we were in Cambridge. Staff were lovely, and the food was excellent. Love the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup!
First&Last timeI’ve been today for a brunch after receiving good feedback from this chain but I was really disappointed overall. After waiting too long to order two kinds of poached eggs (Royale and Florentine) for sharing, first one (Royale) as you can see in the pic the egg was over cooked but rest still ok. Second one (Florentine) egg again over cooked plus full of water but the worst was the avocado run out. We asked for a change and they brought us Florentine with egg newly cooked and avocado ready to eat. The taste was completely different and what you expect from a place like this. Then I spotted that the taste of orange juice was not natural when in the menu they say “freshly pressed”. I saw a bartender using a brick... fresh just was the brick in the fridge. They should take care of these details. Finally when were going to pay they added a 12,5% of tip and didn’t asked if we wanted to add it or not, they just introduce it in the terminal. For sure I’m not going to return.
Phenomenal quick and friendly service. Amazing food. No complaints whatsoever
Bills is an especially stylish bar and restaurant in the very centre of Cambridge. The atmosphere is quite casual but its also somehow very elegant at the same time. The menu is varied and includes some interesting options as well as some classic dishes. The cocktail and wine list is large and has everything you would normally expect, but in addition they offer the new kind of drinks made with CBD oil (non alcoholic but can induce feelings of relaxation and wellbeing). The service is great and overall its really good value for money (but please note that they add the service charge in as a default so no need for an additional tip). I would definitely return again.
Bills tradition breakfast consisted of 3 bits of burnt toast, two soggy tomatoes, cold flavourless mushrooms, two perfectly acceptable fried eggs and a couple of pathetic slices of anaemic bacon. The tea was also horrible - very overpriced for what I received. It was my first time ever in a Bills restaurant and I won’t be returning. The staff and decor however were very nice.
Bills is great for a drop in breakfast or more. The location is very central and Bills has lots of room for diners.Bills breakfast is definitely worth a go - everything cooked perfectly and the service was great - smiles genuine helpfulness and fun.Coffee and OJ were as good as I have had anywhere in the world.
Food was ok, service good and drinks drinkable. Wasnt until I spoke to a friend who pointed out that management keep 100% of tips I felt robbed. The automatic 12.5% service charge should be just that- a charge that goes to reward good service... Not into the pockets of those who already make considerably more than those on the bottom. In my eyes, thats theft, and I will definitely be steering clear. After a quick Google it seems as if staff who dont make enough service charge for their boss can even get in trouble.... Disgusting.STAY AWAY AND SUPPORT LOCAL INSTEAD
I had brunch there today and everything was so mediocre. The coffee was just bad.Old muffin, with a bad hollandaise that overtook any good that the eggs could have had to offer. The fancy worded pineapple juice, was literally from the cartoon from the supermarket just served fancy. And the pancakes were the worst. A dry stack of pancakes, with barely any syrop (golden syrop), jot even bothered to serve maple syrop, served with barely any fruit. Two banana slices, 1 strawberry cut in half, and another 2 berries. Just not good enough.Unfortunately very overpriced, for the bad quality they served. Not going back and dont recommend it. There are much bettet places to go in Cambridge on the same price range
Excellent breakfast and excellent young waiter..left feeling fat full and happy 😊
Wow, so much has changed with Bills!Used to visit here before the COVID-19 Pandemic and it was such a lovely place to eat for lunch, or dinner!I went on the 30th August 2021 and the bar has definitely been lowered.Upon arrival, we did not feel welcomed as two ladies were acting as though the restaurant was ‘full’ and very much felt like they wanted to ‘get home’ for the rest of their Bank Holiday Monday. The menus were greasy, not clean and the glasses… well, you couldn’t see through them, that’s for sure! The food was very mediocre and filled a gap for lunch, but we definitely won’t be visiting again!Such a shame, Bill’s used to be lovely - what happened?2 Stars as I used to enjoy it, but my most recent visit was let down by poor staff and cleanliness issues.
Friendly waiter. Good with the grandkids. Good menu
Fantastic food not cheap but worth every penny
Overpriced, the dishes are very poor and small. We did wait for our order for 2 hours and staff was quite funny with us when asking about our food. We went to other restaurant after this to have a decent dinner.I used to go to Bills and it good actually, but not this time.Social distancing measures or other covid measures dont exist.
This Bills has a special atmosphere and very nice interior design 👌. It reminded me art deco, and I am not used to seeing it in Bills. The staff was smiley, helpful and prompt. We received a warm welcome and were looked after 😊. I got a Vegan breakfast, sadly, no picture, and my bf got a Vegeterian breakfast. Both plates looked appetizing and we finished them within 10 mins. It is a healthy filling breakfast, we left Bills full of energy and in a good mood. I would recommend it for sure 😋.
Best fish pie ever.great service and ambience
Good choice of main course. Most desserts contain chocolate. Not good for a migraine sufferer.
Great food and service. If you dont like the service charge you dont have to pay it.
Really nice service. Good food. Lots of veggie and vegan dishes.
Really nice food, friendly service and reasonably priced.
Food is okay, small portions and very expensive. They ask you if you want some water for your table, we assumed this meant tap water but they actually charged £3.75 per bottle and finally had the cheek to charge a £12.75 service charge.TLDR: the food is good, but expensive and small portions
Beautiful decor and good food. Friendly atmosphere.
Food was nice but the service was so poor. We were just forgotten about by the waiter for long periods of time. Took us ages to order drinks, receive drinks, order food, over an hour wait for food. Not much by way of apology. A bit of a disappointment!
This is the second time Ive been yo this restaurant and I was again really impressed. We booked and were there for early dinner, so were seated quickly and the staff we friendly and attentive, but in a professional way. The menu had a really good variety and we were pleased to take advantage of an email offer for a free bottle of wine. The food was great, a good portion size and all tasted fresh and was warm, and came out at the same time. The calimari was particularly good with the chilli, but the deserts were the real stand out for me.I thought the décor and the atmosphere was nice, it was alive but without being crowded and the tables werent too close together. Everything seemed clean.I would make an effort to visit here again.
Excellent breakfast. Staff very attentive, good scrambled eggs
Myself and my partner came for afternoon tea on Sunday and it was absolutely fantastic, we sat at the bar for a couple of drinks first while a lovely guy played the piano absolutely beautifully, we went to our table enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea and glass of champagne. The staff were all great and very helpful. After we finished we went back to the bar for a cocktail and sat next to the piano again, after his set he asked if we had a request, cold play - he played it earlier on as we arrived and it was just lovely. He played past the time he was due to and after we managed to grab him to say thank you and say how much we appreciated it! Turns out hes a member of staff and plays every Sunday!Would absolutely recommend the afternoon tea at Browns in Cambridge and to go on a Sunday afternoon to catch some lovely music!
Nice meal but a bit pricey for what you get.
The food was very tasty! I loved my steak and dessert!
Fabulous Place! Very Cosy with amazing Atmosphere. Colleagues are very energetic and very kind. Although we went half an hour early from our booking they still excepted us and had a table ready. Their colleagues have asked if we have any allergies that surprised us with my other half as a lot of places do not ask.Service was absolutely on point! We do recommend to everyone!Thank you!
We had a lovely brunch; service was friendly and prompt and the food was excellent. Will definitely come back again next time were in Cambridge.
Went with friends and was very enjoyable and food excellent.
Great food. Friendly staff. Our temperature was checked on arrival and we were shown to our table. All covid guidelines were followed to the letter.
The place was mediocre (for dinner) . Nice atmosphere, but the food could have been better.(1) The waiter didnt know that they have shakes in the menu.(2) The main dish (ordered the Mojo chicken skewers), was small and not that different in size when compared to a starter. The flat bread was burned to a crisp and the chicken was dry. The tzaaiki that accompanied the dish should have compensated for that, but the amount they brought was egregiously small.(3) The gold digger shake was good, as well as the chicken dumpling starter. The house wine barely had any flavour.
Had a nice brunch, food was quite nice, cocktails were watered down, and the restaurant was packed, no social distancing at all.
Excellent restaurantDecor, food and service first class.
Great service as always, yummy food and a great spot, always busy so booking is a must!
Always a favourite. Great food. Excellent vegetarian options.
Nice restaurant, but expensive and sometimes small portions. Full English lacking hash browns (that cost extra £1.50) and no tea included of course. Tea is another £2.60 which is just a tea bag, which is ripoff. Optional service charge is added to bill by default. There are cheaper options for comparable experience. But at least service is very fast and top notch.
I pre-booked a table for morning birthday breakfast. Went trough all the details with the staff.Just to arrive and be escorted to the back.Small table, non of the things I arranged happened. My partner walked out!!!Thank you for letting listen to bs for messing up the birthday!!’Cheers!!!’
