Wow you guys, just WOW! I love this place! My first time ever being in Chicago, my husband took me here and April and Melissa served us coffee and deserts! My husbands son turned 6 and they made him this BEAUTIFUL cake!!! Also, my husbands family threw me a surprise baby shower and they made these SUPER delicious treats!!! You guys will NOT be let down by this place! I encourage you to stop in and try it for yourself!
My husband picked up a variety of chocolate cupcakes for my birthday. Cute cupcakes! Came with little chocolate swirls, in a nice box for transport. They were a little dry, so I don’t think they were super fresh. But I would probably go back for some sort of specialty cake because the presentation seems very nice.
Unkind staff. We all agree about masking but if circumstances were unexpected, the staff can be courteous and kind. A customer wanted to give a visitor a recommendation with a small takeout order, the staff asked the customer who was covering their face to go to Target next door and get a free mask, and they refused to deliver 1 croissant right through the door outside when asked by the companion (the door is 3 feet away). This review is being written by a fully vaccinated physician who understands health requirements. If the Bakery wants to keep its faithful neighborhood and supportive customers, it could possibly 1)provide with a mask in the off chance a customer did not have a clean one available. and 2) be kind and not start laughing and snickering when the customer who was at the door and rudely rebuffed when asking for a door delivery closes the door.Be kind.
My friend adopted a dog last year and decided to throw him a “gotcha day/bday party recently…I asked Alliance to make custom cookies with the dog’s face on them for her.. I sent them a picture, and voila! They turned out amazing, and my friend LOVED them. Alliance was super responsive and easy to work with on it. I want to commission all sorts of cookies now!
This review is lonnngggggggg overdue. Alliance Bakery is an enchanting spot that happens to be placed right here in Chicago. I stumbled upon this place in early March 2021 while searching for a custom Among US cake for my daughter and they did not disappoint. The cake was beyond my expectations and more. The flavor was absolutely delicious and everyone wanted more!!! The cake blew everyone away and my daughter loved her cake sooooooooo much. We had the most amazing experience and it was all due to the cake, because it brought it all together. I will definitely order from Alliance Bakery again for her next custom cake.I have also tried almost all of their brilliant and gorgeously made desserts. The staff there are just so lovely and I appreciate all the love they put into their desserts. I HIGHLY recommend everyone visit!!!!
Went for the first time yesterday after walking by a thousand times. It was perfect. The staff member was welcoming, and let me take time to look when I said it was my first time in. He was helpful and very courteous. The desserts were perfection! I cant wait to go again! Tirimasu is my favorite dessert, this was everything I wanted. The mousse was stunning and Im still thinking about it.
Oh my gosh SUCH a cute place. the girl at the counter was super nice and helped us find some goodies we would like. there is some serious talent here! the sugar cookies all had insane frosting designs.im honestly not a sweets fan at all, so i didnt get anything but my s/o said the chocolate croissant was super yummy.we got macaroons as well, which i have never tried. so, i asked what was recommended. she recommended blue berry, so thats what i got! i also had the coconut lime.i gotta say, these are my new favorite desserts!! i wasnt sure what to expect, but they were the tastiest little things ever!!make sure to pick up a bunch of Macaroons and check out all the insanely cool cakes out front!!
My husband surprised me with a Red Panda cake from Alliance. They did a wonderful job and the cake was delicious (lemon with Italian buttercream)! I seriously could not get over how cute the cake turned out. Thank you for a wonderful Birthday cake!

Used to be an affordable bakery with decent pastries. Now it’s overpriced and unaffordable. Last time I was there a few months ago the cake was dry and needed to get it down with water. You can get a cake for half the price at other bakeries. They know ppl will pay it. Not with inflation now.
Got 2 Bday cookies and a vanilla cupcake to surprise my son for breakfast before his wknd party…when I saw they charged my card over $15 I asked why so much? because the cupcakes price said $3.50 and cookies $4 each. The woman’s explanation: they have not updated the price sheet, sorry. - Guess I am definately not getting the cake I wanted. Have employees treat customers fairly and money is not an issue.
Super cute location. I had their NY cheesecake and it was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Perfect combination of tart and sweet, creamy and fluffy texture. My friends had an assortment of their macarons and enjoyed them tremendously.
I purchased 4 macaroons and 1 cupcake. 3 macaroons were completely undercooked. As soon as I bit into them the whole thing collapsed. I looked inside to notice that the wafers in both top and bottom were not cooked through. The 4th macaroon was overcooked. Extra crunchy and difficult to bite into. The flavors were amazing though, so maybe they need to be a bit more precise with their timing. The cupcake was very stale. It tasted like it had been made 2 days prior. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but Ive been to other bakeries that are perfect every single visit, so I probably will not return. The custom cakes in the window looked really cool though so if thats what youre looking for, go for it.
I normally dont write reviews, but this review is very overdue. We came across this amazing bakery when my wife and I were wedding cake tasting. Our wedding cake was not only gorgeous, but it was delicious as well. We kept returning for every special event in our lives. Our family loved all of our cakes so much they started to purchase cakes from here as well. Alliance Bakery, is the sweetest person and we cant see ourselves going to any other bakery! If given a chance, I would like to negative rating. I havent tasted the cake from this bakery. But I ordered custom cake for 18 days ahead. I emailed and filled the custom cake order as well. No response. When called they said they usually respond the week before.Guess what response I get! We cannot do 3d cakes at this point, we are completely booked and the only thing we can do is 2d cakes..I wish they gave me this response when I emailed them.Very. Disappointing email and response from Tony Randell, bakery manager.
We were contracted to work with Alliance through our wedding venue. Our tasting was amazing, and they confirmed our order more than a few times, however the cake was not ombre as we discussed, it was one solid off pink. I emailed them about this afterwards and sadly, didnt receive even a reply let alone an attempt to make it right. Were having our post covid big wedding coming up and well have to choose another bakery. It was very disappointing.
We dropped by based on the line outside and were very pleased! Spoke to a lady in line and she said she always came here for the scones (lemon and white chocolate apricot). They had already sold out of those ones so I got the almond croissant. It was excellent! Very flaky and not top sweet! Will come back again to try the scones! The person behind the counter was also very lovely!

Alliance is an amazing place to get your sweets. This was one of the first bakeries that we went to when we moved to Chicago, Delicious deserts and croissants! You will not be disappointed in the menu and service. They have a separate seating area which is nice and quiet. You can sit and enjoy your dessert. Recommended by locals. Services was exceptional

Whether you are looking just for dessert after dinner, to take home for a few nights that week, or to get a custom cake for a birthday party or other event, Alliance is an amazing place to get your sweets.This was one of the first bakeries that we went to when we moved to Chicago, and it is still one of the best bakeries that we have been to in Chicago six years later. We just got our birthday cake for our sons birthday, and it was beyond anything that we could have expected. I took a screenshot on my phone and they perfectly replicated it onto his cake.Oh, any other things that they make that arent sweet are delicious and so is there coffee. All around this place is great.
The cake was dry, the presentation was not good. I called for a refund because it was a lot of money for the cake and the owner only refunded for the delivery cost when I paid 55 dollars for the cake alone. Then he hung up rudely because he “stands by his product”. Well your product sucked for me. Don’t waste your money, Whole Foods is way better and less expensive.
I used Alliance Bakery for my best friends virtual baby shower. I was able to coordinate with them very easily over email to make all the selections.Since I was planning this out of state and couldn’t travel due to Covid I had to use family members to pay the bakery through ChaseQuickPay. The charge for credit card use at the bakery will increase the price.The cake was absolutely delicious from what I was told. Almond cake with Chocolate Ganache and Vanilla Buttercream frosting, they also made a dozen cookies, personalized. Thank you Alliance!
They are top! 5 stars! I ordered a cake to celebrate my daughters engagement to be delivered on a Sunday. I am in Florida, my daughter lives in Chicago. The staff at Allience Bakery, prepared the most beautiful cake and delivered right on time. Cake was also delicious! This bakery is fantatistic!
This place is an absolute gem! The Dossants are not the only star, they also have fun holiday treats and the best fresh baked bread! You can’t go wrong here cupcakes are priced right and they have daily specials too.
Thos place was a great place up until now. I have had four cakes made by them and they were all amazing but my wife went to have me a cale made for my birthday come all the way out here from the east side just to find out the cake was never made because of irresponsible employes forgot to give the reciept to the people that the cale was paid for. Rediculous. Just lost a customer that has come back more than 3 times.
I normally do not do bad reviews but this just didnt sit right with me. I have had cakes made by Alliance twice in the past. Both very expensive but both were excellent cakes. I decided I would use them again for my sons 12th birthday. He is having a masquerade sneakerball. He wanted a shoebox cake with a shoe on top, and I decide to add a phantom mask to go with the theme. The 1/4 sheet cake was $150. The shoe on top was $250, and the mask was $65. I asked why the shoe was more than the cake. I got an explanation. I totally understood. I decided to go ahead with the order but I asked them to do it without the shoe. As I waited for their response. I decided to check out their website. On the website I noticed the 1/4 sheet cakes start at $78. What was on mine that made it jump to $150? That was my 1st issue. My 2nd issue was the email I received back. Without the shoe the mask went from $65 to $85. The reason they gave me was that without the shoe, they needed to make the mask bigger. I didnt ask for a bigger mask. I found it odd that they decided to make it bigger and increase the price without even asking me if thats what I wanted. This post has nothing to do with the actual price. As I stated before, I have used them twice in the past. Both times the cake was over $350. This just felt like I was being taken advantage of. I did end up going with someone else. I am happy with my decision. Alliance needs to know that they arent the only bakery out. Custom cake makers are popping up everywhere. They are a dime a dozen. A replacement is easy to find. They need to keep that in mind when quoting someone a price.
Went in on Sunday May 23, to pick up some treats and order a custom cake. I understand that they did have a line of people waiting to get in and was asked to order online. I asked the gentleman at the counter if it would be a problem in getting a custom cake by Saturday may 29th. He replied it wouldnt be an issue.I filled out the form and sent it in. I got no response all day Monday and called into the location late that afternoon. Alliance can best be described as your go-to bakery for any sweet/pastry needs. A while ago, friends came over with several of their smaller pastries, and we were IMPRESSED. The inner fat kid in me had to go back for thanksgiving pies. Clearly we bought too much, but the end result was a sugar coma, the likes of which have never been seen.I messaged them again for Christmas just the other day. The manager, Tony, was extremely helpful and accommodating - and made securing the delivery for Christmas eve seamless and convenient.Also, looking past their pastries. My wife and I used to go to Dollop in Lakeview before we moved - and havent been able to find any cheese and ham croissants since weve been there. However, the breakfast treats at Alliance are just as good, if not better.Alliance Bakery is a Chicago staple and a must try for anyone in the area.
I ordered an Adult Cake for 5/14/21.I was pressed for time and having trouble finding the right place to meet my needs. I found Alliance in a haystack of bakeries. I read every review, I looked at every picture, and visited the companies social media pages. After all that research, I decided to fill out the order form. I gathered pictures and provided very detailed instructions to aid in bringing my vision to life.The Bakery Manager, Tony responded to my inquiry the same exact day! I was in disbelief. Not only was he prompt but he addressed every single detail/request that I had. His attention to my inquiry was amazing! At that moment, I knew I selected the right place for me.NOW LETS GET TO THE BEST PART...THE CAKE!!When I opened the box to see the cake I screamed and danced a little bit lol Excuse my language... IT WAS THE SMOOTHEST, ROUNDEST, AND SEXIEST A** ID EVER SEEN!! Literally, the cake was perfectly executed. It looked 100 times better than the reference photo I provided. Every detail was exactly how I wanted it. The size, the color, and the inscription.Dont get me started on the taste. It was DELICIOUS!!! I watch a lot of baking shows and people often say that fondant is pretty unpleasant (especially black fondant). I was a little nervous because this was my first time trying fondant but it was good! The black thong was even tasty lol The chocolate cake was super moist and the filling was sooooo good. Im a whipped cream lover and normally I dont like frosting or cream cheese. However, I loved it. I surprised myself because I couldnt stop eating it!I want to thank EVERYONE at Alliance for their assistance! I had a wonderful customer experience. I didnt have one bad interaction. The staff was always super friendly when I called, emailed, or walked into the bakery. I was so pleased that I tipped an extra $60!Thanks again Sam T for carrying the cake to my car for me and your opinion on the coffee macaroons! They were delicious. Ordered a 6” carrot cake for a friends baby shower. We were extremely underwhelmed with the presentation and quality of the cake. We spent $95 (with delivery) on a flavorless cake that we could’ve presented better and bought at a grocery store for $10. Save yourself the disappointment!

Unbelievable work on my wifes 40th birthday cake. Shes a giraffe fan and thought Id try to have one made. Alliance made one that had everyones jaw drop, kids were over the moon.
Terrible. Their cake was so small for 80 dollars. Dude. Why? Why so so small and the colors are not even what I wanted. They included colors of their own and said will add decorations. Just wow. So expensive but not worth it at all.

Excellent bakery! We got a lot of desserts for Thanksgiving, apple pie, cherry pie, pumpkin pecan loaf, cupcakes, passion fruit tart, turtle cake, pumpkin cheese cake, and some ham & cheese croissant. All of them are SO GOOD! We are very happy and we will be coming back for more.
Could not be happier - I reached out to Alliance for a custom cake for my husbands birthday and they killed it. I asked for a heavy-metal themed cake and gave them some of his favorite band names. They sent me a drawing, complete with a skeleton playing a guitar (awesome on its own), and when I asked if they could make it look like Dime Bags guitar, they said yes! I was blown away by what they created and everyone at the party was clamoring to get a picture with the cake. There were band names all around the sides and a picture of Ozzy, plus it was carrot cake - incredibly delicious. This cake made my husbands night!
O.M.G....! ..I asked for a beat up PT cruiser cake, and that is what Ive gotten.....This cake is a five star rating...im so please with it and Alliance Bakery, that I will use them again and again.... They had so much patience with me and was friendly.....I LOVE THIS BAKERY

Tried to order a cake and smash cake for my daughter’s first birthday. Was initially given a quote and told that the order and payment was needed 5 days in advance. I made the decision to order the smash cake only and was given the ultimatum via email that I had to make payment for this cake by 2pm that day or they would not accept my order. The order date was still over a month away, so why the hasty ultimatum?...I am also a working mom and didn’t even see this beyond rude email until past 2pm. I have since been completely ignored by Alliance. Peter who I corresponded with was such a rude and unhelpful individual. Don’t waste your time with this bakery.

Today is the last day we will patronizing this bakery. After waiting in line for 15 mins, finally was able to get in with one minute to spare and the person working there unkindly was like we close at 7:30pm, its 7:29. A similar thing happened pre pandemic when we wanted to eat the dessert in the sit down area next door, where we were basically kicked out because it was like 30 mins before closing. Not to mention they charge wedding cake tasting, which seemed weird considering the two other bakeries we tried did not (and had superior cakes). Au Revoir, Alliance!
If someone told me yesterday, “Let’s get some croissants from Alliance.” I would say, “Yeah, let’s go.” Having tried the croissants, if someone asked me the same question today, I would say, “No, thank you.” This review is only regarding the croissants.
This has been and still is my favorite bakery since i was a little kid!! They always have beautifull decor and my god that its soooo good and yummy!! The staff always have a smile and are very creative! Now I live in Argentina and every time a relitive goes back to Chicago I make them bring back a cookie and it always gets here in perfect shape!! I will always choose this bakery!! Simply the best!!!
This place is amazing! It’s so hard to find places that use truly clean ingredients, and this is the real deal! I will be a frequent customer! The owner is so sweet, and got a custom order in for me last minute. Loved my experience and would recommend again and again!

Variety house cup cakes ordered for bday event. From over the phone order to pick up was very pleasant and smooth. Every cupcake was amazing, entire party loved them.
I used to come to this bakery quite often when the quality was high and the service was good. Recently, in the last couple of months, Ive experienced poor customer service and poor quality of products. Most recently -- today I paid $12 for 2 croissants. This pricing is inexcusable, especially considering there are several other bakeries now on division street. One was an almond croissant and 1 was a ham and cheese croissant. They were both pretty good but this price is just outrageous, considering they used to be much cheaper. Additionally, I had a cupcake and some macaroons last month and the quality was pretty poor on those. Its disappointing to see where this bakery has gone. I wont be back until the prices adjust and the service is friendly.

Over $60 for one of the worst cakes I ever had. Dry bread, extremely sweet frosting like you find on a cheap supermarket cupcake, and a cementer of lackluster jelly. I gave two stars because the worker was very nice and provided good service but I had to buy another cake for half the price that was 10x better since everyone was so disappointed in the Alliance cake.
Over priced and overrated. There are better bakeries. The pastries are ok at best. I would skip this place.
Although communication was limited to emails, Peter at Alliance Bakery was easy to communicate with and clearly stated the reasonable pricing and understood the details needed to bring my cake idea to life. When I received my order, I was extremely pleased with the final product (it was perfect!) and I’ll definitely be ordering from here again.
Used to come here to study a lot. Tons of tables, lots of good light. Coffee is good. Baristas were really friendly. They have all the milk substitutes. Croissants were alright as well. I also had a passion fruit tart from them before as well. The pastries are pretty delightful.

I give this rating 2.5 stars if I could. For taste 5 stars, for design 0 stars. Had ordered a star wars custom cake for a friends birthday and I was excited that the designer confirmed to the specifications I had for the design for the cake. It was a small cake for $100 so I expected to meet my requirements. I was very clear on specifications and sent pictures for the stars I wanted on the cake and the color of the fondant to be a mix of blues and black for a deep galaxy effect and not just black. I ended up getting all black fondant with poorly splattered paint which was suppose to mimic stars, which was not all in the picture nor what I asked for and what they confirmed. The taste quality was great but zero stars for an absolutely terrible and unacceptable job for design.

They completely accommodated my time frame and the design turned out perfectly ! Delicious cake too of course!! It was a chocolate with fudge filling and buttercream frosted sheet cake. I always loved the displays in the bakery when I would walk by, wasnt expecting the really bad customer service. Note this is pre-covid. There were 3 different chocolate desserts on one tray with the titles listed on a sign. When I asked which one was which (they all looked similar), this lady rolls her eyes, silently walks herself so shes standing right next to me in front of the case, and READS what is on the sign to me. I could read that part, if you dont know the difference, why are you working here? I left, cant give any stars for flavor, so, 0 stars from me.
The cakes were absolutely incredible! So moist and delicious- everyone at the party complimented them on their appearance and taste. The gentleman that I worked with when I went in to order the cake was very cordial and helpful in helping me figure out what I wanted.They lost a star for the experience I had picking up the cake. I was told that I could pick up the cake ‘anytime on Friday’ and they open at 6am. I work full time so I went in to pick it up at 6:30 and was chastised for being ‘so early’ the woman behind the counter reminded me three time ‘you are early’ - I did not mind waiting and the cakes were ready so I was not sure why she needed to shame me for being there early in the morning. I also realized when I got home that I had ordered 3 vanilla macarons and 3 strawberry macarons for the engagement cake, and the cake came with 6 vanilla. This is a small detail but it was a fairly expensive cake, so I would have hoped it would have these details!The birthday cake with the sprinkles was one of their regular cakes, so it was $34 dollars (including the words). IThe engagement cake was a completely custom cake, and including the macarons ($2.50 each) it was $74.
I hired Alliance Bakery to make our wedding cake for our October 2018 wedding. My now husband and I live in Phoenix, so we communicated with them through email. A few days prior to our wedding one of their employees emailed us stating that they had never received our check for our cake. I doubled checked my account and the check had cleared. I contacted them via phone and they said they never received it and they would need it ASAP in order to guarantee our cake. Shocked, I contacted my bank and they said the check was mailed weeks ago and cleared through our bill pay account. The employee at Alliance said that we would have to write another check. Stressed of course to find this out only a few days before we come to Chicago to get married. It turns out after they checked their books that they indeed did receive our check and had already cashed it. For all the stress and inconvenience we were promised a replica of our wedding cake top tier and a box of macaroons for our first anniversary. I was happy that the problem was resolved or at least I thought it was. When we accepted their offer, they told us that we would have to come and pick up the cake for our first wedding anniversary. Well, we live in Phoenix, and I dont know how that possible and Alliance Bakery was well informed that was the case. Then an employee of Alliance Bakery informed us that they would take care of it and would send us our cake for our anniversary. I sent a reminder email to check up to ensure that we would have our cake for our first wedding anniversary and now the owner, Peter is saying that they could give us a gift card because they dont have the capabilities to ship a cake overnight. As a business owner there is ZERO excuse that they are not fulfilling their mistakes to begin with. Peter sent an email saying it cost $100 to ship overnight, etc. I dont care how much it cost, as Alliance Bakery was in the wrong and now they are going back on their word. So now, my husband and I wont be celebrating our first anniversary as I had envisioned. The entire experience with them had been not only a major disappointment, but a major F U we received from Chef Peter.
Alliance made a beautiful wedding cake for our special day! It was absolutely gorgeous. A dream! The tasting in the planning process was super yummy. Our absolute favorite flavor both in the tasting and in the actual cake was the chocolate with the chocolate fudge filling! Alliance was great to work with and I would definitely recommend them for your wedding cake! Separately, they make AMAZING cupcakes as well!
I ordered a cake for my sisters birthday. Sent them the details of what I wanted. They pretty much followed my request to the T. The vanilla cake was nice looking, but very dry and the buttercream was too sweet. I appreciate them following my instructions to make a nice cake but they could have offered up some other suggestions on how to make the cake exceptional as I had no budget..creative directive or suggestions would have been greatly appreciated. That being said I overpaid for what I got. Another thing, I agree with other customers who say their customer service needs work at the wicker park location. All in all my sister liked the cake..... so I guess thats what matters.

Due to Covid 19, I was unable to come to Chicago and celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Alliance Bakery was super helpful and responsive to my requests regarding making a birthday cake for my girlfriend. Not only were they were communicative, they delivered it on time and my girlfriend loved it.
I had ordered an anniversary cake from this place. Simple sponge cake with raspberry filling and rose-raspberry buttercream frosting piped in rosettes. The cake was beautifully made with a perfect balance of flavor! The staff in the store even stayed some extra time after the closing time since I couldnt reach the place before. A little on the expensive side, but worth it.

Our guests cannot stop talking about how delicious our wedding cake was! The team at Alliance not only created a beautiful cake, but one that was tasty. The tasting and design experience was a pleasure, and we wish we could do it all over again! Their customer service is wonderful. We highly recommend Alliance!
