If youre looking for vibes, this is the spot. A bit of a darker bitter roast but I think thats still tasty. I tried the black magic iced and it was fantastic.If the weather was better I would have loved to kill some time in their outside seating.

Like the name says. Its bitter coffee and food. But its not bad! Also they have suger and milk so you can adjust the flavor to suit you. Very friendly staff and nice store display

I was just taking a casual morning walk and decided to look for coffee shops around the area in which I was walking. When I realized that this shop was near me, I was excited because I have wanted to visit for quite some time. I stopped in around 7:45 and there were only two people in front of me.I picked up a bag of coffee so that I can take it home, and I was going to order counter. However, to my surprise, I was told that if I buy that coffee I got a free large hot or cold coffee anyway. So I got my large iced coffee for free and now have a bag of new local ground coffee to try at home. Definitely recommend this well-known local brand.

Ive tried this place twice, and Im always excited to come back. The location of this coffee shop is very accessible and has a spacious parking area. All of their coffees, foods, and other displays are in good quality and very affordable. The interior design of the store is cool which is a very picture-perfect place. Highly recommended!

I will say that it is a pretty standard coffee shop and the drinks are reasonably priced. The atmosphere is a bit loud for me in the morning but its a short walk from my apartment so I dont mind grabbing a drink here, its not really a place I would go out of my way for. The people that work here are nice

Truthfully some of the best coffee I have ever had! Even the black coffee doesn’t need any milk or sugar, it’s that delicious! If you are from Chicago, you know for a fact that Dark Matter coffee is top tier. They also have amazing coffee beans for sale to brew at home, and cool merchandise that anyone can purchase. If you are visiting Chicago, the Dark Matter mothership is a MUST visit.

Dark Matter has been on my coffee shop bucketlist for a while now, and this place did not disappoint! I asked for recommendations and they were so kind to let us try a sample of their iced coffee and nitro blends! I ended up getting a nitro there and it definitely tops any nitro I’ve had so far! Coffee is also pretty affordable as well. There’s no seating at this location but I will one day try to visit their sit-down locations when I return to the city.

Although I made every possible misstep in my experience at dark matter coffee by ordering random things off the menu that I had no knowledge of, I still found my experience pleasant and the atmosphere great. The staff were extremely friendly, even going so far as to compliment me which is more than I can say even for the person I was going to dark matter with. I would highly recommend, but maybe bring up the menu in line before you order.

Liked the theme of the the place which was really uplifting. Grabbed the Chocolate city Ice coffee of theirs. Definitely unique to my taste buds.Thanks for the nice coffee Dark Matter.

This coffee shop is where we go for business meetings or just a quick talk with a friend. Not only did we enjoy their coffee and unique pastries and desserts, but we also enjoyed the atmosphere. Every time we come here, it feels like home. Ive also had a lot of fun with their exclusive sofas.

The espresso was great. It was smooth and sweet and decently priced ($3.50). They had plenty to offer like mugs, coffee beans, and clothing just to name a few of the many things offered. Would love to make a trip back here and try their other offerings!

I was in the city visiting friends and wanted to find some unique coffee shops. This location was a bit of a hike for me, but SUPER worth it. Funky vibe and friendly, helpful staff.I almost always go for mochas, but this time I asked if they had any special recommendations... why not be exciting‽ I tried the barrel-aged mocha which had this really interesting, “whisky” feeling. The barrel-aging gave a distinct, but balanced flavor. Highly recommend.

Love my Dark Matter coffee. Always a treat.You can select from a handful of Do-rite donuts and West Town pastries at this location (assuming you are there after their morning drop off and before they sell out). If you get the glazed old fashion and a cup of plain old Joe, you will gain clairvoyance for the morning.On a side note, I have purchased the Dark Matter beans and tried to brew up some morning elixir at home. It was not the same. I dont know what their magic formula is, but the coffee tastes better from their tattooed hands.

I got the vanilla suburbs nitro and its soo good - probably the best nitro Ive had! They have their milks out for you to put your own (including oat milk). Outdoor seating during COVID but none indoors. The baristas were also super nice and the ambiance was cool :)

Many interesting coffee roasts and blends, including a hop infused cold brew called Black Hole Necromancer-- very smooth and yummy, though slightly confusing add your nose keeps telling you you might be drinking beer, but it tastes like coffee...

The whole visit to this coffee shop was outstanding! The service was incredible and the language barrier was really welcoming for my waiter. He suggested a great burger salad, and the dessert was perfect, of course. It has an elegant and welcoming atmosphere. I cant honestly think of a single negative. To all coffee lovers, I would certainly suggest this coffee shop!

Must have gone on Opposite Day. Ordered a Vanilla Bean donut (Do-Rite Donuts supplies them) and got a glazed donut instead. Ordered a Vanilla suburb nitro brew coffee and got a Chocolate City nitro brew instead. Staff was mostly disengaged in what they were doing and in ringing me up. They literally walked away from me as I was making payment and didnt bother to give the receipt.Plenty of seating but no trashcans on the outside, so I picked up the wrapper and stuff and brought it with me.Overall, might try a different location, definitely a vibe but I didnt take away much positivity from this place.

Best coffee in Chicago! Strong, delicious flavors, and such a cool little shop (inside almost looks like a tattoo shop). You can buy coffee by the cup, can, or in small 6 pack cases. Tried the black magic coffee by the cup and then picked up this really cool can.

I went to this coffee shop for a sip of coffee, as it was near my hotel, and I was pleasantly surprised! The cappuccino was good, and the cannolis are nice, too. The guy who delivered our coffee was very kind and patient with us. Its a very nice and inexpensive coffee shop. We have enjoyed our experience here. If you love coffee, I highly recommend this place!

The best coffee In Chicago (Hands Down!!!) .My first encounter I had in the “Do Rite Donut” shop on 233 east Erie they have the best donuts ( VEGAN AS WELL) also the coffee “Dark Matter” brand . Much better priced than Starbucks ( nothing against Starbucks) and personally I like the taste better, also the staff is not commercialized ( if you know what I mean). So I found where to buy the Coffee-my favorite “A Love Supreme “ also decaf is tasty, at theDark Matter Coffee - The Mothership located on738 North Western avenue

Dark Matter has some amazing coffee. Im talking hands down, some of the best coffee in the world. Ive loved almost everything Ive tried so far and would recommend all coffee lovers to come here at least once in their life. The only downside to this particular location is the size. There is no seating and you have to stand awkwardly and wait for your order (which can take up to 10 minutes to receive).

The coffee was quite simply heaven. I had the honey latte with oat milk. Love the decor. Although, I would prefer more seating, other than that, its pretty cool.

Best coffee in Chicago, this is the main toaster where I believe they do coffee classes and such, but there is really only places to sit outside. The star lounge bar just around the corner has much more seating if you plan to hangout for a bit

There are few coffee shops that I feel can grab a cup that is better than I can make at home. Whether it be pour over, espresso or just drop coffee, DMC has me beat. BUT! Their speciality is really as a roasted. I love being able to grab a bag of coffee and getting a free cup alongside it. Makes the drive feel more worth it and I get to enjoy the coffee before making it home.Their single origin selection is right up my alley and roasted perfectly. Had a wonderful Ethiopian with bright floral notes that was amazing. Can’t wait to try the rest of their lineup as days go on. Biggest question: is their price per bag worth it? Oh yeah. You might spend a few more dollars than an online roaster, but the freshness and quality are worth it.

Ordered Latte but it was like bad foamed Cappuccino. And also the espresso flavor was too bland.This is the second time got it not a good quality of coffee. Id rather go STAR LOUNGE coffee bar which is the better than mothership.

I read theyre one of the best coffee and espresso spots in the city so I went to check them out myself. Ordered myself a mocha and was blown away. Very deep dark flavor with just the right amount of sweetness. The freshness of their beans is unmatched since they roast them right here. Dark Matter is definitely as good as they say.

What makes Dark Matter worth a visit is their super unique processes for their coffee drinks. We tried two drink styles that weve never even heard of and both were excellent. A dry hopped cold brew (yes, like the beer hops) which was floral and bitter and delicious, and then a oak barrel aged espresso (they actually age the dry beans in the barrels before roasting). Cant wait to try more creations from Dark Matter!

For me personal, it’s a best coffee shop in Chicago !! It’s lite bit different experience, because it’s also place where Dark Matters create magic of coffee, so design of place is industrial! You won’t be able to sitting there because of all above ! Nice stuff, and very atmospheric place !! Additional: all the time it was 5 star place, but last times I was very disappointed with personal, and latest time I stopped by 5:35 and they reject my late order because they already started clean machine! Why yours working hours till 6 if you can’t serve coffee! Very sad, it use to be my favorite place !

There are no tables or places to sit, so you grab your coffee and go. They may just have the best coffee in Chicago. They always have new and different roasts to try and are more than helpful when you are trying to make a selection. Theyll also give you a cup of coffee if you buy a bag a beans!
