I enlisted their help with a pre-purchase inspection for my MR2, and then new tires and some service when I eventually purchased the car.I worked directly with Thomas and Kelly to arrange service, and their professionalism far exceeded my expectations. I would also like to extend a huge thank-you to the technicians. I can honestly say that I have never had a better experience with an auto shop! The purchase of my vehicle would not have been possible without Modern.

I was worried about finding an honest mechanic in a town I had never been to especially because I had no time to do research. Modern Automotive was the first place that came up in Google and I went there. I was in good hands. I first spoke with Thomas Morris who immediately put me at ease with his honesty and genuine problem-solving attitude. I left my car with them and continued on my trip in a rental.Through a series of MY mistakes and lack of ability to figure out how to get my car back once they had completed the work, it was left there for far more than the original time I thought it would be. But they were extremely gracious with me and helped me figure out a good solution. During this time I spoke much with Chuck Swain (Owner) over the phone. He was incredibly generous, good-hearted and honest toward me. It was so refreshing to meet honest businessmen like these, and I would recommend their service to anyone. Thank you guys.

I had an oil leak problem probably related to a leaky radiator. I didnt know about the later. I had leaky radiator issues with my other car so Im surprised I didnt suspect it.Anyway, Modern Automotive fixed the head gaskets and installed a new radiator, at a surprising deal. I feel a lot better driving on it. I still dont have any problems with my AC that they fixed over a year ago. An overall capable shop with quick service.

After looking at different service centers for someone to do my VA State Inspection, I fell across reviews for Modern Automotive. I decided to give them a call based on the reviews. I was able to get an appointment Saturday morning. I was in and out in about 30 minutes and they really made me feel very comfortable. Since I was a new driver, my dad has been the one who fixed my cars and taught me what I know. It was refreshing to go into a service center and ask for what I needed and not be sold anything else. Also, makes me feel a bit better my high mileage car. Highly recommend! Thank you for the quality service.

Ive been going to Modern for years now, Chuck and the guys have always helped me with my mini cooper countryman, which a lot of shops wont touch! They even helped me with my non-manufacturer extended warranty for my dodge journey without any trouble! There prices have gone up some, but they are still more affordable than a dealership, and with anything (but especially when servicing a mini) you get what you pay for! Highly recommend these guys! 10 out of 10!

Had a clutch master cylinder replaced, other than having to wait a week for an appointment the service was great,was finished pretty quickly the day of the appointment and they even followed up to see how things were going after the next day.. Would highly recommend these folks.

Weve had all 3 vehicles here several times. Courteous staff & they do good work. They do state inspections. They only do mechanics, no body work. Right now the hours are shortened, so its best to call ahead for an appointment. They often can work you in next-day though, or the lead time should be only a few days.

Didnt try to sell me a flux capacitor during oil change.

This shop is very flexible and easy to work with, and the people who work there are so kind. They also always call and talk to me about what is going on and let me make a decision before doing anything drastic with my car. I go to them for everything including oil changes, alignments, state inspection, weird warning lights,you name it ☺️

I would recommend Modern Automotive to anyone in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area looking for a local shop! They are always incredibly professional, timely, and honest. I’ve gone there for routine inspections, a new battery, and tire changes, and I’ll continue going. One thing I found really awesome was that they texted me to check in on how my car is doing since my recent service about a week ago. I find that quite thoughtful and thorough!

If there were a rating higher than five stars, I would gladly leave it. The good people at Modern Automotive have done very good work on my vehicle lately, but just yesterday the starter failed. In these especially trying times, they sent out mechanics to jump the car, and took it in themselves to work on it. Such a high level of service deserves your patronage.

When I brought my car to here for the first time I was extremely pleased. The shop is extremely clean both in front and in back including the bathroom. They were prepared for my arrival, listened attentively to my description of the problem and took notes! That shouldnt be a rare experience for a woman, but its common...but not here. I felt heard. They took the car in and diagnosed it quickly. They explained the problem to me clearly, had parts in stock and had it fixed in 2 1/2 hours from the time I walked in. I also appreciated the ability to use the wi-first, so I could work while I waited. Id definitely recommend Modern Automotive to anyone.

My husband and I have used Modern Automotive 3 times now after finding them through Google reviews. They are always so friendly and professional. They are as accommodating as possible with appointments too. We have never had any unexpected repairs or charges, which is a problem weve had with other places. Great Customer Service!Within the span of two weeks I had a nail in one tire and a screw in another. Having just started a new job, I did not have a ton of time to work on getting this taken care of, but Modern Automotive was very understanding, efficient, and took the extra effort to squeeze me in on short notice! They also offered me a ride back to work and advised me on a few other service things (without being pushy or trying to rip me off). Great place + great people!

I like new ideas and some new technology, but when it comes to down to earth communication, I like look in the eye honesty. The old fashion, good forever, say what you mean and mean what you say. Chuck and his techs do this and communicate it clearly. They dont mind a little extra work for the same price so you are informed. Something that is being lost in modern day.Trust them, it pays!

Quickly took care of a laundry list of items I needed. Also located a few issues that needed to be fixed and did so at a fair price. I will only be coming to Modern Automotive for future repairs and upgrades.

I believe they were transitioning to a new data system and we had a little miscommunication at first, but the team worked hard, made everything right and Ill be a returning customer. They were friendly and professional throughout. (Also had state inspection done.)

While I was happy with my previous shop, they did not offer shuttle service, which is important to me. I had heard good things about Modern & their location was close, so I gave them a try. I had a 92 Land Cruiser from Duncan inspected here. They did a through inspection which lead to the decision not to purchase the vehicle.I was a little skeptical using a shop recommended by the dealer but they are a honest shop.

State Inspection - We were running out of time to get the state inspection done on our car by the end of the month (1 week away). Tried calling a few places which were booked through the beginning of the next month. Called Modern Automotive on Tuesday and they were able to take our car on Friday. We dropped our car off in the morning and it was ready by the end of the day. Incredibly friendly staff and speedy service!!

Chuck and his team have been working on our 2 vehicles for almost a year now. They are so unbelievably accommodating with checking on issues of concern during routine oil changes. They are thorough and know that not everyone has a ton of money to drop on their vehicle at any given time, so theyll tell you what needs to be attended to now and time frames for anything else they find. I love that they know me by name and that they ALWAYS personally follow up a few days later. I highly recommend Modern Automotive for ALL of your vehicle(s) needs!

Modern Automotive was suggested to me as an alternative by my regular mechanic of many years for a state inspection after his shop stopped performing the service. The staff there was more than accommodating even rescheduling my appointment to the next day after I was unable to leave work due to my having to stay on due to a number of my own staff being caught with the flu. They even added some service needs to the operation when i asked and did it all in a timely manner. As I suspect my own mechanic will be reducing his service availability shortly I feel very happy with making Modern my new home for all my familys auto service needs.

After trying multiple garages around the area, Modern Automotive was the only one who could diagnose and FIX my wife’s 2012 Subaru. For years I struggled to find a garage I trusted. With that said, I will never use anyone else but Modern Automotive! There fast, friendly and back their work! Out Subaru runs like a brand new one !

I have an 07 Beetle and Chuck and his crew (Terry, Seth) have been great! There arent a lot of mechanics in the Montgomery County area who can work (or want to work) on Beetles. Prior to Chuck, Gary and his crew (Chris/Seth) were just as good. Its such a relief to have a trustworthy and fair garage work on your car. Got my truck worked on there, (when Gary Lawson owned the company) and they did a great job and didnt charge much compared to other shops in the area. Very friendly! I have gone back to get my car worked on, (this time Chuck owns the place) and these guys didnt miss a beat! They did just as good and for a great price. Just like before! This was my first time trying Modern Automative. They came highly recommended to me by multiple people. It was the small things that made the greatest impression. I took my mothers car in for inspection. She is a nurse and I wanted to make sure her vehicle is well maintence. They called and let me know every step of the way what was going on with the car and what it needed. Terry was so sweet in explaining everything that needed done. When my mom picked up the car she found a note that said that the car was santized for her with his name on it. She cried and said they took care of my car like I try and take care of people. Its the small things like that this will make Modern the only shop we go to for repairs or service. I believe in supporting local businesses and when you have a business that treats your car like family then why go anywhere else. Sure we took the car in for an inspection but they ended up doing 400.00 worth of repairs that were needed. Ig a company can treat you like family and care for your vehicle like family why go anywhere else?

Full disclosure, I own the business. We have spent the last year transforming a repair shop into the best auto repair experience in the New River Valley. Having to get work done on your vehicle is stressful enough. We do what we can to ease the burden. We will give an honest assessment of the condition on the vehicle, lay out what is required to get it back to or maintain normal safe operation and work with you to give you a ride home or work so you dont have to sit and wait for your vehicle while its getting worked on.

Its always hard to find a trustworthy shop..especially when you move to a new area and dont know many places. This shop and all the folks that work there are nice, trustworthy, and upfront. Highly recommend!!

The people at Modern Automotive seem very genuine and truly care that the services they are providing are the best possible. I took my car there for the first time and found that they are honest and werent trying to take advantage of me (which was a breath of fresh air since I was on my third brake replacement in a matter of months.) My car is running great and no longer makes any weird noises! I would definitely recommend them!

Staff are always great. Service is good and prices are normal for the area. They occasionally miss little things but are quick to rectify them.

The guys here are great. Ive had to bring my car in several times this summer for various repairs and they were very helpful and easy to work with. They even accommodated me doing some intermediate repair steps myself to save money!

I came in without an appointment (was experiencing tire problems) and they were so accommodating with my schedule and drove me to Blacksburg and back so I could carry on with my day with minimal interruption while they worked on my car. The staff is so friendly, knowledgeable and trustworthy. A couple of days after they sent me a text following up and making sure at everything was going well on my car. From this one experience with them I can tell that they take their job seriously and they care about their customers. Will be coming back in the future.

If I could give ten stars I would.I was interested in buying a 1987 Jaguar (sight unseen) from a dealership in Christiansburg. I live in Seattle and couldn’t make the trip to Virginia to see the car. But this car seemed special and from what I could see in the pictures and from how the dealer described it, I was definitely interested. I wanted a buyer’s inspection done but being from Seattle, I didn’t know any mechanics in Virginia. I read reviews of several mechanics on Yelp and Google. Modern Automotive seemed like a good choice so I contacted them about a buyer’s inspection. I talked to Chuck, the owner, and he was so helpful that I felt comfortable having the dealer bring the car to him for the inspection. He said he could do the inspection in a couple days. I explained I was leaving the country in a few days and needed to wrap up the purchase before I left. Chuck squeezed the car into his busy schedule a day early to help me out. I arranged to have the dealer bring them the car.The next day, I received a call from Carl, one of Chuck’s mechanics. Carl had inspected the car and I could tell from what he said that he had been thorough. Carl took time with me explaining everything he did and the condition of the car, which was excellent, as I had hoped. I bought the car.I knew there were a few things that needed to be done, such as a new headliner and work on the air conditioning. Chuck agreed to work on the car. He also said he would keep the car inside his shop until I could get a shipper there to pick it up for the trip to Seattle.Now here’s the most important part and why I am taking the time to write such a long review because these guys deserve to be recognized for their excellence. Being the car is 30 years old and I hadn’t seen it myself, I asked Chuck to replace the belts, hoses, and fuel lines if they needed to be replaced. And since they were doing work inside the dash on the air conditioning, I asked them to do proactive work on the heater core of it needed it. Chuck and Carl easily could have done the work and I never would have known if the work truly needed to be done. But Chuck told me Carl inspected everything and the car simply didn’t need the work even though it was 30 years old. The previous owner, who I didn’t know, had clearly maintained the car well. I have to ask, how many mechanics would have taken advantage of a customer 3,000 miles away that they will never do business with again or hear from in the future? Many, I’m afraid. But not Modern Automotive. They are wonderful people with integrity and that means everything to me.Chuck and Carl at Modern Automotive are honest people who do excellent work, keep their customers informed, and who go the extra mile. They made what could have been a difficult experience buying an old Jaguar from 3,000 miles away into an easy and pleasurable experience. I have been taking my 2005 Mitsubishi Spyder there since I got it used in 2015. The whole staff has gone above and beyond in answering all my questions on how to take care of it. They do not try to sell me something I dont need and explain about the parts I really need. Everyone is so friendly. Many times I have had to use their complimentary ride to & from work service. Great place and friendly quality work.

We were in town for a Virginia Tech basketball game and started having brake problems. Based on Google reviews, I had the car towed to Modern Automotive. Fortunately, my brother owns a shop in Northern Virginia and after describing the issue to him, he told me it was one of two things - one way more expensive than the other. Modern Automotive determined it was the cheaper of the two possibilities and promptly made the repair. Breaking down while travelling is the worst; we were 300 miles from home and MA could have taken advantage of us. They are courteous, professional, reasonably priced and they proved their trustworthiness. I have lots of VT alumni family and friends who frequently come back to the area for games and other events and I recommended MA to them and you.

I had starter issues and couldnt get the truck into the shop. The towing and fix were all very helpful. I also later had a knock sensor fixed and was a reasonably difficult problem for me to solve on my own, fixed.
