Customs House in Museum is an eclectic collection of art/artifacts. It is a great way to learn about Clarksville’s extensive history and it’s surrounding areas. There are vintage cars, equipment, local art and a couple of hands on areas for kids. My kiddos are 4 & 6 and loved the “bubble cave” downstairs and the different areas to play grocery store or with a wooden train table. My youngest is fascinated with trains and really liked looking at the very large electric train display. The museum seems very accessible with ramps and an elevator and there is accessible men and women’s bathrooms. There is a gift shop on site that sells a variety of stem inspired things to play for kids and another side of the gift shop that sells local art, T-shirts’, jackets, decorative TN/Clarksville things. There is a really cute vintage Coca Cola cafe but it was closed probably with covid/staffing issues but it looked really neat. There is parking across the street in the lot (the garage near it is awaiting structural repairs). The parking lot area does not charge a fee on the weekend. It’s also worth noting that the Customs house is a blue ribbon museum which is great for active duty military perks (you can visit their website for more information). Would recommend and we will definitely be back.

There is a great energy in this building, the ticket master was very informative and friendly. We started at the higher level. There was a art gallery with beautiful pieces in the first room. Historical sport icons in the room next door. There is a story explaining how clarksville came to be, how the railroads were utilized and other amazing things. There are two areas for children, the bubble room the most notable. I absolutely loved this gallery!

This is a great place to come and learn the history of clarksville. Theres a nice mix of art, artifacts and play space to enjoy. My son was very fond of the huge model train set. It was easy to get around with a stroller so although theres stairs you could say every floor is handicap accessible. ( some spaces might be too tight for a wheelchair)My son loved the bubble room but wished it was bigger. There was an art room and playroom as well. Were dedicated coming back to this place

If you want to learn everything thing you can about Clarksville and Fort Campbell, this is the place to go. The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center was a Federal Post Office in 1898 and Custom House. At that time, Clarksville had a huge international trade in tobacco. In 1983, it became the Clarksville-Montgomery Museum. It later became known as the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center in 1996. It is now the second-largest general interest Museum in Tennessee.I learned so much during my first visit in 2019. Saw a lot of amazing exhibits from local artists and brought friends to visit the museum with me. I encourage everyone visiting this area to come to this museum. Watching videos of Clarksville in the museum, the art, the interactive exhibits, and seeing the train were some of my favorite parts of the museum.Free parking at the side of the museum, but it is limited. On the first Thursday of the month, admission at the museum during 5-8 pm is free! This occurs during ArtWalk in downtown Clarksville.Admission Rates:* $12 Adults (18-64)* $9 Adult Military, College Students, Seniors (65+) and CMCSS Teachers* $5 Children (3-17)* Free for children 2 and under* Free for Museum MembersHours* 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesdays – Saturdays* 1 – 5 p.m., Sundays* Closed Mondays and major holidays

The good: Clean museum with very nice customer service. The exhibits had some good information. The building was a cool looking, historical, museum. The bad: The exhibits seemed to be randomly scattered throughout, rather than in chronological order. There were some exhibits that had the same information, or additional information to other exhibits, but they were on different floors of the museum. This made it fairly difficult to actually follow. With how hyped up the museum is, we were looking forward to a great exhibit. The fact that it was a bit difficult to follow made it a bit of a bummer for us.

Wither you are into modern art, paintings, history or trains, yup I said trains, this is the place to check out. I love that is has its own free small parking and we did not even know when we went that every second Saturday of the month admission is free. Some art may not be suited for everyone, however the have a couple of great places inside for kids to have hands on fun including a bubble cave.

Judging from the reviews online, I wasnt exactly sure of what we were getting ourselves into by going to this place, but we decided to check it out anyway. This museum is inside the old post office and features tons of artifacts from Clarksvilles early days. Inside the museum, you can see videos, photos, and knick-knacks from Clarksvilles history. The lower level is all for kids and kids at heart! Theres a puppet show area, building blocks, Lincoln logs, and the coolest bubble exhibit ever! They also have an extensive model train set up where you can push a button and turn on the lights in the shops or make the airplanes propellers spin. On certain days and times, you can also see them run the trains!

What a great museum! There is literally something for all ages. It is quite large in comparison of the outside. My personal favorite was the train exhibit ❤️ the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. One exhibit that sticks out in my mind was a picture from the major flood they had, its a picture from College St (I think) and there is a building that is half submerged in water. Today that building holds a very tasty cheesecake shop. Very cool! The admission is very inexpensive and parking can be limited but is free if your able to get into their lot. I highly recommend the Customs House!!

The museum was very enjoyable. I love that exhibits rotate out so often to keep the context fresh. I felt there was a bit missing from some of the exhibits - some more explanation of the material, more background information, etc. for example, in the sports displays, there is a quote on the wall from a baseball player and a newspaper that presumably contains interesting information, but there is nothing to tell who said the quote, or what youre supposed to be looking for in the newspaper. For locals who have been here for a while, the information might be understood, but for someone who moved here less than a month ago, I was a bit lost.I love the Explorer area but would love to see it ramped up a bit and maybe the play grocery restocked with some more durable items. Painted wood blocks make great food packages. The membership is a fantastic value and I gladly purchased one for myself since I see myself going back often for the rotating exhibits, and my granddaughter can enjoy the Explorer area.

Not great compared to other museums, but I guess you cannot fault the museum if the town it represents has contributed very little to history. The childrens play area is very obviously stocked with local thrift store toys, and the grocery store is sure to reinforce negative stereotypes for little girls. Half of the friction activities were broken with no sign of being repaired in the near future. By far the most impressive attraction was the gift store, perhaps they should drop the entire exhibit dedicated to has-been athletes that no-one outside of the city has heard of and expand the selection of kids toys, it would definitely be a better use of space rather than a race car once driven by a nobody.

The Custom House Museum is one of the shining stars of Clarksville. Wrapped in a history of its own as the previous home of our post office. The old copper roof is a testament to a by gone era but the modern additions smoothly transition on the inside as you are taken on a journey through the history of Clarksville and the Middle Tennessee area. With a beautiful collection of carefully curated history and a revolving selection of majestic art peices, you would think that they would stop there; however they take the museum that extra mile with a dedicated model train room and childrens activity center. Custom House delivers big on a small buck. Add to that the chance to find interesting art peices, fun custom jewelry, and cute creative toys for children and the great location near to some of Clarksvilles many delicious Restaurants and you have a day trip for the whole family. Who knows, you might like it so much you need to buy a pass.
