This place needs a heavy duty cleaning. Smells like urine inside, bathroom was filthy, giant hole in the ceiling with old dirty insulation hanging off of it, old boxes stacked in the front of house... I just dont know how this place is even open. The Owner( or the person I assume is the owner ) was very nice. Super talkative. My wife liked what she ordered. I didnt really order much because of how nasty it was in there( the smell of pee was strong ). Not trying to be mean. Just telling the truth. Maybe a little less stories, and a little more cleaning. Sorry.
Whoever said that the Top Hat/ High Hat diner was the best place to eat in Clearfield clearly lied. That is the worst experience of my life. That’s supposed to be sausage gravy 🤢 Don’t even get me started on the building…it should be condemned! I kept waiting for Robert Irvine to come around the corner to save me!

My girlfriend and I decided to stop in here and were not disappointed. The building is a little rough, but the food and the service make up for it. The owner was fun to chat with and the chili verde was amazing. We will definitely be eating here again.

This is not a place I would ever recommend. Now the Staff and Owner were very personable and polite. After listening to a five plus minute explanation about their menu and specials. We were asked to sample the Chili Verde. This was after I had politely explained I don’t care for Chili Verde. I understand they are well known for this, however you should not badger a customer. The owner even commented about the verde, when I explained to him that his was good. (I was polite and tasted his offering) but we wouldn’t be ordering the verde. He made a snide comment about not appreciating his World Famous Chili Verde to another customer. We placed our breakfast order dispite feeling uncomfortable and not enjoying the experience up till that point. This picture is of Chicken Fried Steak, Eggs over easy, crispy hash browns and white toast. Now I asked for Sausage Gravy, but instead was served this horrible red paste. My steak tasted like it was microwaved after soaking in a fryer, my hash browns were not crispy they were rock hard. The toast was cold and they don’t even butter it.Now normally I would have asked for my plate and order to be fixed properly. But after the completely uncomfortable time we had. I told the server I was full and paid my bill. As she returned to the kitchen we overheard her tell the owner and cook. That I apparently didn’t like his gravy anymore then I did his Verde.This is one place that will never get a second chance to make it right.Do not eat here.

I go here at least once a week. Small business with a owner which seems passionate about his food. The verde is GREAT! However, be warned it isnt a traditional Verde that most places sell so there is really nothing like it to compare it against which is a good thing!My wife always get the pancakes which are really some of the best pancakes she or I have had!On top of all that, I feel good supporting a small business that actually has passion for its customers and product.

What a waste of a morning! Service was horrible! One server in the whole restaurant, who was maybe 15 years old. She brought out 2 tall glasses of chocolate milk filled to the brim for my 4 and 2 year olds. We asked for a smaller glass and she brought one. We asked for another and she brought it after we finished eating. We ordered pancakes off of the kids menu and a side of bacon for our children to share. The pancakes came out 10 minutes before everything else, which is fine the kids were hungry. But we requested a second plate, which we asked for twice and never got it. My husbands food came out 10 minutes before my own, because our gravy isnt warmed up yet this was an hour after opening. Im assuming it was yesterday gravy if it needed to be warmed up. My breakfast tasted like yesterdays warm ups. The biscuit, which looked like an English muffin, was hard. The hash browns were hard, the country fried steak was chewy, hard, and oil soaked. Coffee comes in the smallest mugs Ive ever seen, maybe like 6oz. We got one refill, that we had to ask for. When we finally walked to front to get our check after waiting at the table for 10 minutes, our bill was $46.00! For a kids meal, the daily special and a waffle breakfast. We could have eaten at Red Lobster for that much! Ridiculous! We wont be back and beware if you decide to try to yourself!
Greasy spoon diner with a decent selection on the menu. This place has been around for decades and has a great chili verde burrito. Its located out of the way of pretty much everything, so do yourself a favor a accidentally make your way to the great one off restaurant.
Very personalized service and delicious food. They are not kidding when they say that their chili verde is the best. I could have eaten this by the bowl all by itself but instead had it put on chicken fried steak. My wife had it put on a great breakfast burrito. I highly recommend this restaurant.

First time there although we live right down the street and have been there over 5 years. The atmosphere was very 50s with pictures and the classic diner feel. The food was great! The Chili Verde has been talked about and reviewed many times, as it should be. It was delicious! We had a sample of it awaiting on our table and that sold us on getting all our dishes with Chili Verde on them. The portion size was pretty perfect too! Left there not feeling super over full and uncomfortable. We left satisfied and tummies happy. The owner was friendly, as well. Our waitress took great care of us and was on our coffee refills. Even after we were done eating, we hung out with our good friends and had conversations but we werent rushed out the door. Good food, good people. Thank you!

Never had been here before and wanted to try a local spot. Walking in, it was a little cluttered and there was a leak from the ceiling right in front of the counter that was left unattended. We didn’t have to wait that long to be seated and have our drink and food order put in. We did however have to wait over an hour to get our meals. (The tables that were in before us had already been served.) I only got half of my order when it was brought to the table. (I could hear them yelling that it was on the ticket and it wasn’t made.) When they brought it out it was cold and still not correct. They brought our appetizer after our meal (also cold). Tried to charge for extra gravy that they gave me but I did not ask for. It was definitely way overpriced for the food quality.
The food here is so yummy. My husband and I enjoy going here for breakfast here when we have the time. The owner is always so very friendly and will make you feel welcome. The prices are great and you get a very generous serving with whatever you order. The atmosphere is great very retro.

Me and my boyfriend have been driving past this place for a long time. We finally stopped in one day for a quick bite and have been coming here ever since. The people are wonderfull service is great. Prices are good and the food is to die for. Would recommend anything with Verde.
I met my new best friend today (Ron, the Owner) and had an awesome breakfast at the same time! My Wife and I were in the area found this little gem. Ron, the owner came out and introduced himself a we started shooting the S*&T. The food was really good and we enjoyed the time chatting it up with Ron. Our server was on it as well. Cool history at this place.

Waited for ten minutes to sit. Only 2 other tables being used. Waiter complained he was the only one. After waiting 30 minutes one of the other tables left hungry. We waited another 10 minutes and still no service. So we paid for our coffee and left. This place was dirty and cluttered. 3 tables is not busy. Will not return.
I was highly disappointed! Chile verde was almost like a bland gravy. Eggs were not even eggs. Seemed like everything was made on the cheap. I got the Chile verde omelet. It was not an omelet, it was gravy smothered in cheese. I could have eaten anywhere else and spent as much money, and been more satisfied. I had my boyfriend and his son with me as well, and we spent $46 for what was not even sub par food!
The verde was good, company was great, and I enjoyed it.Got my order to go. The owner gave me a free drink while I waited. I was also serenaded by a record of Elvis while I waited.Grab a seat at the bar on one of the 50s style bar stools and have some good food and great company.

Food was very good but when your trying to enjoy your breakfast and someone I believe is the owner is in the dining area talking to guests and is swearing, talking about politics, religion and giving his opinion on such matters its a little off putting.... Not sure we will be back unfortunately because the food was awesome!

I will admit I have driven past this place many times and never thought of stopping. What is even worse is I live in the area and love trying new places. From the moment we walked in we fell for n love with the place. The staff was great and the food is amazing. The chili verde is truly the best I have ever had. We will be eating here a lot ! My experience cant be described with words. I laughed so hard i had tears running down my face. The meal i had was called the tower and i recommed it 110%. Ron was hilarious. His comedic banter was the best and the hospitality is just like at home. If you drive past this little spot and dont stop youre an idiot. So damn awesome!!!!
Nasty food. I ate here this morning with my aunt. Had about 1/4 of what was on the plate, and decided to just pay the bill and leave. Literally thought I would be happier if I didnt eat what I paid for. Swiss Cheese on the omlette was really just slices of white cheese product (think Kraft singles). Id imagine if you order it with Cheddar you get a yellow Kraft single instead. This was the LEAST offensive part of all the issues with the food. Save your money for a place that tries. I like grungy hole-in-the-wall places, but this place was just off-putting. Never again.
Excellent service, super friendly staff and owner. We had the Tower with browns, 2 eggs, biscuit, chicken fried steak, topped with gravy! My husband had the white and I had the sausage gravy. Both were wonderful! We had to have the bowl of Chili Verde with chips of course, and were glad we did. We will be back!

Been meaning to come in here for a long time to check it out. And needless to say it was absolutely with it! Went in and sat down. within ten minutes ordered my food, and was eating. I have never gotten my food that fast at a sit down restaurant! And it was amazing! Right now they have a special with a chicken fried tower with verde that its to die for!

My wife and I grew up around this area and had never, been into this diner. We were regulars at the Iggys in Layton, but since it closed we have been going to all different places looking for our new dine out home. Needless to say WE FOUND IT!! Service was fantastic, food was even better!! Ron and Leonard were genuine and pleasent people to be around. Wonderful atmosphere, clean, and tasteful music. Loved the retro theme, lots variety on the menu. We will definitely be back again and again.
We went in for breakfast Saturday morning because we knew other restaurants would be super crowded. This was our 2nd time in and the waitress asked us if we had been in before, even though we responded “yes” she proceeded to awkwardly go over the special which hadn’t changed. The service didn’t get any better through our meal, she was not friendly at all and ignored my kids when they thanked her politely. Coffee was cold, my husband had to specifically request HOT coffee, we had old expired ketchup on the table and when we asked for another one she brought a 2nd expired ketchup. The food was over-priced, biscuits were hard as a rock. Overall environment was cluttered, a mess and just disappointing.
Service was good. I requested a combination of items that were not on the menu. Mr. Elizondos cooked them up quickly and perfectly. Had a fun and enjoyable time while eating lunch.

I went here on December 20th and didnt get charged for my my order until January 3rd. Now Im in the negative with an insufficient funds fee. Owner of the store said there is nothing he could do for me, and that the same thing happened to him. Food was cheap and cold. I would suggest to eat somewhere that you know you wont get screwed over.

I had high hopes for this place. The waiter was very overwhelmed and could not get our order right while the owner yelled at him the whole time. The waiter had to asked us 4 times what kind of gravy we wanted instead of writing it down. We were the only ones in the whole restaurant and we heard them use the microwave multiple times while they were preparing our order. My hashbrowns were gray, cold and tasted oily and stale. My husbands chicken fried steak was clearly heated up in the microwave and was served to him cold. Gross food all around and the service was poor. I would not recommend and wont be going back. I feel really bad for the waiter, he shouldnt be treated so poorly, especially in front of customers.

Dont waste your time or your money. I felt like I needed a shower by the time we left. Way over priced, very slow, poor service. Kept blaming it on the new waitress but none of the staff knew what they were doing. Over an hour wait for half your order of cold food!
This little, but quaint moms/pops place is nothing but 100% BADASSERY!! The owner/operater Ron is truly a ONE MAN SHOW, hes the door greeter, the host, the waiter, THE ULTIMATE YUMMILISCIOUS COOK ( prepare to be stuffed and satisfied), the busboy, the dishwasher and the very much so dedicated and committed business man with an out of this world sense of humor, and no matter the economy, personal issues or any other negative issue...you wont be able to tell that hes being affected, because he is there for his customers, and treats them with the up most respect and dignity. What are ya waiting on...get down there and experience true food bliss!!!!
