YES! They make their bagels homemade and their cream cheeses! You can tell and it produces an amazing product. They also have coffee and the white chocolate toffee nut is to die for. The portions are definitely more than enough and the atomsphere is sooooo cute.

I have been to bagel shops in washington and oregon that I thought were good but this is by far the best bagel shop Ive ever been too. They have a great variety of options for sandwiches and their cream cheese that come with the sandwiches is amazing.

I dont think I have ever had such a good bagel. They are chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. I ordered a bacon egg & cheese with an iced latte. My partner ordered ham egg & cheese (and said they were NOT stingy on the amount of ham like other places).

This was my first time here.The bagels we ordered 👍very delicious 👍The crew was very busy but friendly. The only reason I gave a 4-star instead of a 5 star, was because they were so crowded with people waiting you could not eat in. They have a few tables outside but were full. We live about 20 miles outside of town. So it kind of put a little bit of a damper on it because we had to eat in the car. 😕😕 But other than that. The food is worth another visit.📀

They have the best bagels and cream cheese! The place is very clean and the employees are fast and friendly. Gotta give a HUGE shout out to the owners as well. I sent an email asking why the pastrami isnt an option to order online and 1). they actually replied its removed online once its sold out and then 2). sent me an email the next day saying he would smoking today and it would be available tomorrow. I really appreciated that since people in my office always order that. If you havent tried them definitely do yourself a favor and go! They are local and doing everything right!

Amazing everything...we make the drive from Ankeny to enjoy tasty bagels, generous cream cheese portions, and great service. If only they were closer - we would be going every day. Love the garlic bagel with sriracha bacon cream cheese. And we 1000% love that you support mask wearing. The owners and team are clearly passionate about their business and it shows. (avoid local fake Ankeny bagels that are not boiled! this is worth the car ride!)

Ive been here about 6 times now. The bagels are exceptional, they are slightly chewy and the overall texture is the best Ive had. They have many options for bagels and cream cheese and the serve breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and lunch wraps. They also offer a full coffee, espresso and tea line up. The shop itself seats about 20 and is quite busy on Saturday morning. As I write this there is a line to the door.

Vegan cream cheese was incredible! And all of the staff was so friendly and helpful- i would return in a heartbeat!

Stopped by for a bagel this morning, really appreciate your mask wearing requirements. A woman came in with 3 others whom were all wearing masks, one did not wear one, your staff requested she grab one from the lobby or wait outside, she opted to wait outside. Very refreshing to see a staff stand by your guidelines, we will be back. Thanks!

Im rarely in this part of town, but I make a point of stopping here when I find myself nearby. Their sandwiches (breakfast or lunch) are very filling and well-layered. The bacon, egg and cheese is especially good!

The dumbo is a decent Chicken-Bacon-Ranch. Ranch is a little runny for bagels.

I stopped in for lunch around 12:30 yesterday with my sister after hearing good things about the place on this site. I have always been a Brueggers fan girl, sibce my husband worked there for almost 5 years in Ames. I wanted to see if 5 Borough Bagels was better. The place is cute and simple, and refreshing in terms of style. They serve breakfast all day, and have bagels, salads, and wraps. We ordered a breakfast bagel, one of their lunch bagels (The Queens) and a cheddar bagel with veggie cream cheese.Specialty Bagels- These were both amazing. They were toasted and crisp on the outside while still soft and supple on the inside. I ordered my breakfast bagel with cream cheese, and there was plenty on the sandwhich. The flavors were spot on for both of them, and it was a great experience.Cheddar with Veggie Cream Cheese- This one we ordered because I felt like to truly judge a bagel place, you gotta go simple and see how they do. Well, they did amazing. Again. Lots of cheddar cheese, and the cream cheese. Holy cow. It was fresh and LOADED with fresh veggies. It was light and refreshing and just amazing. And they give you a LOT of cream cheese, so be prepared for a messy eat.Price- 2 sandwiches and 1 bagel with cream cheese for less than $20. I felt the price point was a great deal given how fresh and delicious they were.Service- Our service was really good. The people working behind the counter were courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable.Cons- They have self-serve water for free, with child - sized cups. I just wish they had full-sized cups, but thats being really nitpicky. Also, most of the tables hadnt been wiped down while we were there, so we found it a little hard to find somewhere to sit (we wiped one down ourselves). And the last con was that there were no napkins at tables. They had one napkin dispenser by the water, and it was empty. With the amount of cream cheese they serve, they need napkins at every table!Overall, the best bagel place Ive ever been to. I HIGHLY recommend going and trying it today!

Today, 2nd time here and unfortunately not as good as first round bagel burnt to the point that is all you taste. I called and spoke to Ashley and let her know they need to turn down toaster. She apologized and was very sweet. Only reason why I will be back.

I ordered a vanilla oat milk latte that I didn’t remember to ask for 1/2 sweet. I reluctantly asked for more coffee added to make it less sweet and Owen happily helped.

1st timer. Went around 1pm on a Friday and it was quiet. Bagel selection was low (but thats to be expected.) Staff was so sweet and helpful. My breakfast sandwich was to die for and the fresh squeezed, glass of O.J. was the perfect choice to wash it down with! Dont walk, RUN!!

I used to go to a local place for bagels that closed down several years back. Im not really into your typical bagel spot, so Ive had a tough time finding a replacement. This establishment has become my new favourite. It has about everything you could imagine when it comes to bagels, and theyll make them into sandwiches to boot. Fantastic selection of cream cheeses and a variety of bagels. Check them out; youll not be disappointed!! Highly recommended.

Best bagel shop that Ive ever been to. Cream cheese is handmade, bagels are a good size. The drinks are awesome too. There are wraps and sandwiches, and pastries are often on display. The owners are the nicest people around. If you want a good bagel, youll want to come here. I could easily eat here daily.

5 Borough is the BEST. I bought a cookie with my lunch last week and inadvertently, it didnt make it in the bag. The team went to the trouble of finding me on Facebook to let me know they were sorry and made it up to me with a bonus cookie on my next visit. In addition to their above-and-beyond customer service, the cookies were great as well. Highly recommend!

I love 5 Borough Bagels! There isnt a bad thing I can say about the place but what I am going to say is that there breakfast sandwich The Mountain is by far the BEST breakfast sandwich one can eat and I would love someone to challenge this. First time I bought it, I bought two because I am a big eater. When they handed me the bag I knew it was a mistake to order two because the bag was super heavy and this was the beginning stages of love for this sandwich. (I couldnt finish the two sandwiches) Now when I took my first bite, it was mind blowing good. I honestly was so mad at myself that I couldnt finish all of my second sandwich. Now I am not going to lie, it takes me more then once to eat something to make sure I think it is amazing. I had the sandwich again today and it was just a repeat of the first time. MIND BLOWING GOODNESS!!!!! If you have not tried The Mountain breakfast sandwich, you are missing out on something amazing!! Due yourself a favor and start your day out with this sandwich!

My favorite bagel place in the metro! Fresh made, and they have the most AMAZING cream cheese. You have to try their Sriracha Bacon and their Veggie cream cheeses. 🤤 The place is always clean and tidy, its decor is nice and modern, and the staff is always friendly.

I had only had their bagels at work, but (even take-out) they were so good I dragged my bagel-loving husband all the way out West to try them. He loved it even more than I thought he would! I tried the bialy (oh, that savory center) with sausage, REAL scrambled egg, and cheese. He had the garlic with scallion cream cheese. Both were delicious! Service was quick and courteous, even as they got busier after we arrived. Lastly, the space was pretty and well thought out. Its small, but doesnt feel cramped. Five stars- well be back!

OMG Vegan Cream Cheese! Only restaurant in town with this! They make all their cream cheeses from scratch, with 2 vegan options that are amazing! Besides the cheese flavors, most bagels are vegan. Great local bagel/coffee shop. Their sandwiches are amazing too, with options for everyone. The staff is super friendly and genuine. They try to get to know their customers and know the regulars by name.

A little on the pricy side but everything I had was great and the staff was very friendly! Will definatly visit again next time Im in town

Pastrami sandwich was AMAZINGLY AWESOME DELICIOUS.

Delicious coffee and bagels. Spreads and bagels themselves were perfectly served and plenty of spread on each bagel prepared. The latte flavors are experimental and delicious. The Americano was full of flavor, hot and had a European flare. Do not pass up 5 borough bagel.

Today my wife and I decided to try 5 borough bagels. We were in the mood to try something different and we thought that bagel sandwiches might just fill that void. After walking in and reading the menu it was quite a variety. They also have a large selection of drinks but today we just settled on cans of pop. After reading more on the drinks I really wish I would have tried something more adventurous. I really wanted to try all the amazing variety of sandwiches they have but I settled on the Bronx. It was a great combination of meat and lettuce with banana peppers and a great sriracha bacon creme cheese. It was quite a suprise of heat and hearty sandwich mixed with a fresh and filling bagel. My wife decided to have the Manhattan she really liked the everything bagel and thought the scallion cream cheese was a great touch. This is a nice and clean place with a very nice and polite staff. The seating area is small but seams its more of a quite bite place you really dont need more. They have an amazing selection of sandwiches and drinks. I am sure we will be back to try more sandwiches and some of there amazing looking drinks.

Bright, trendy and clean interior. I had a lox bagel, which was delicious! Only complaint: its very bright and lacks coziness in here. Too much white paint and white light. If I were Tony, Id take some of that green from the checkered wall and paint the walls behind the counter to bring some sense of closeness. The feel is the opposite of claustrophobia in here, like being suspended in infinite white lit space.

I absolutely adore this place. The staff are genuinely, amazingly friendly. The bagels are fresh and delicious. I dont care for the regular coffee but I dont go there for coffee. I go for bagels! I will return over and over.

Decent cafe, good service but the coffee just wasnt good. They filled up the cups right to the top that it was dripping through the lid and was so hot that I couldnt take a sip for 25 mins. All this would have been fine had the coffee tastes good but it didnt. The space inside is pretty tight especially on weekends.

The Lox Deluxe is probably my favorite sandwich they have. I also buy their bagels to take home pretty regularly. These are definitely the best bagels in the Des Moines area. They have great coffee and other drinks, too. Occasionally they sell doughnuts or cookies, which I also love. I can’t think of anything bad to say at all. Definitely need to try it if you love bagels, or just great food.

Local bagel place with more than a wide variety of loaded sandwich/dessert/whole grain bagels.They have coffees, lattes, donuts as well and what I like about this place is everything I try tastes very fresh and very high quality. Ive never been a huge bagel person, but I could honestly see coming here semi regularly because its just that good.I met one of the owners who works there most days, she and her staff are exceedingly friendly warm people.

I had salmon/lox, capers, cream cheese on a plain bagel. It was the most delightful flavor ever! I live about 2 hours east of the Des Moines Area and a friend took me to 5 B.B. I will give her a gift card for this restaurant. It was clean, including the restrooms. The decor was nice. Faux succulents and grasses...didnt appear realistic. Maybe just needed to be adjusted or better adhered to the base, etc. Super-friendly staff. I wish we had one in Cedar Rapids!

The food is delicious and the owner is really friendly. The first time I ate here, I ordered online (via app), and when I arrived to pick up my order, she greeted me by name. Moreover, I think this environment is great for business meetings between two or three people. I havent tried their beverages yet, but they look really good.

Good place to grab a bite for breakfast. Try to get there early because they get pretty busy and seating is limited, especially when its too cold to sit outside.
