Great experience as a new pistol permit holder/owner. Staff is friendly and helpful. Picked me up a Glock 19x and couldn’t be happier with it. Will be ordering another pistol from them soon! Just be patient at the store as all firearms are hard to come by and the store might be busy. Their range in Medford is nice too

I recently got into this hobby to kill some time while tracks are closed during winter. All the employees were very patient and very insightful and guided me in the right direction. I was even silly enough to leave my driver’s license there and they agreed to mail it to me the next day (I’m away at school). 10/10 would recommend, they’ve got a loyal customer for sure.

Bensons is nice. Store recently freshened up. It looks good, before the gun and ammo shortage. This shop with full inventory looks mint. I compare Bensons as to going to a Cadillac dealer as opposed to a Hyundai dealer. Yes you may pay more, but the oldest saying is you get what you pay for. That includes customer service.Jayden and Joe, the young guys are the new face of Bensons, however, you can always count on old timer Nick. He’s really sweet.

Old Guy seems to have an attitude and doesn’t know the difference between an action and a chassis. Their hand sanitizer smells like vinegar don’t use it!!!!

We asked for several types of ammo. Salesperson said no to all, and then we saw it stacked on the shelf. He was rude, on the side of nasty.

This is the second firearm I have purchased from this establishment. On both occasions I have been treated respectfully, and prices were fair. The used firearm I just purchased was more than $125 less than any on line shop. I always wonder why people leave nasty reviews when they cannot come to an agreement. The staff here were very helpful and attentive.

Awesome guys, gave me the sample gun that they had on hand instead of waiting for an order to come in so I only had to make one trip to scpd instead of one for each gun I bought. Will definitely be back.

Small stock in shotguns and rifles tons of pistols in which you cant buy

To start off I want to express that I am a very level headed individual who to this point has not reviewed any business in a negative way. My experience at Benson’s Gun Shop has driven me to express myself so that others do not have the same negative experience that I did.In early December of 2012 I entered Benson’s to simply transfer a firearm into my name that had been sent to Benson’s for me. Upon entering I stated my business and was kindly asked to wait to speak to a gentleman who was assisting another customer. I waited a few minutes and had no problem waiting. Once this person was available he called me over. Before I was even able to state my business he began to speak to me loudly and condescending regarding this transfer, stating that there were two problems. The first problem referred to high capacity magazines, which the firearm did not have and the second was in regard to the condition of the piece. In his apparent “expert” opinion this firearm was in new condition and due to that the transfer fee was three times as much as previously agreed upon. In short the owner decided to honor the agreement and I happily received my firearm and left the store. This interaction however has led me and every firearm enthusiast that I know to no longer shop at Benson’s or their affiliated range in Medford. People such as this salesperson aide the negative stereotype of gun owners as elitist bullies who feel they are an authority over others and I will not support an institution or business which allows and supports such behavior. I along with the rest of those who I know will shop elsewhere; I encourage all those who read this to do the same.

I have visited this shop 4 times this year while waiting for my pistol permit. They were always very friendly and answered all my questions. Finally I got my permit and bought 2 pistols yesterday at a great price. I highly recommend this shop.

Went yesterday to price out some pocket guns. Joe was knowledgeable, patient and Considerate. Not youre typical arrogant gun shop counterman, a true professional. The shop is well appointed and prices are competitive.

Went in for some Christmas shopping and came out one highly satisfied customer...Brian was very HELPFUL....COUTEOUS & KNOWLEGABLE in what my desirable purchase satisfaction would be...My other half LOVED IT....TEN STAR IN HIS BOOK...WHICH MAKES IT A STRAIGHT ON TARGET OF HAPPINESS IN MY BULLS EYE OF GREATNESS....

Made me leave a 50$ deposit on an 85$ 9mm clip. Fast forward 2 years after no calls I stopped in to see if they had my clip or return my deposit. First no record of my clip being ordered, then they changed the story to that it is in the computer as being picked up. DONT LEAVE DEPOSITS WITH THESE SCAM ARTISTS. Go to campsite sports instead.

I cant say Im particularly a fan of Bensons. Having bought my first rifle here I had issues from the beginning. I called to confirm they had the rifle in stock st the prices they advertised and was told they did. I showed up about 30 minutes later to have another employee argue with me that they didnt have this rifle and tried to sell me another at twice the price. When I refused and was ready to leave they brought out the rifle I had originally asked for at their list price. Prices are generally pretty high compared to other shops, from what Ive seen. Theyve updated their website to not list pricing for any of their firearms anymore which is a bit inconvenient.These issues aside there is usually someone to help you in store, and the selection of new and used firearms is good.

Just responding to Justins review which is a total lie. Sorry Justin i was in the store purchasing a pistol while you were on the phone talking with a sales rep from Bensons. From what i was hearing is you were trying to get him to accept an illegal high capacity gun from another state which as you know is illegal in N Y. I guess because he did not want to break the law you give a bad review . You do not stay in the gun business for 42 years without be reputable and running an honest legal shop. I think you told him there are ways around the law and he politely said no thank you goodbye. I heard it all. You should not be a gun owner. I guess you forgot to mention this in your bogus review. I just had an excellent experience purchasing my pistol at Bensons. Thanks guys.

Been going to Bensons for year but only for small purchases. Cleaning materials and such. Have been looking for a specific vintage shotgun for some time and on one trip to Bensons they had it on the rack. They could have inflated the price knowing how long I had been looking for this gun, but instead they asked a more than fare price and went over the shotgun with me. I must have walked around the store for an hour and half looking prices on line and calling friends to ask what they thought of the deal. Asking the staff question after question. At no time did they ignore or brush me off. No pressure to buy and they made sure it wasnt an impulse buy on my part. Could not be happier with the purchase or the experience.

All of the employees are honest and are willing to help you find the best firearm to fit your needs no matter what they may be. One employee specifically, Nick is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that you are happy and he always offers his professional advise and knowledge. over the last few years that I have been dealing with Bensons he has shown me a few different options that I had not considered myself and by trusting his opinion and recommendations I have never been disappointed with the purchased. Bensons stands behind the products they sell with a one year warranty on all new and used firearms and even after that warranty is up they are still quick to address any issues, questions, or concerns that you may have. I highly recommend doing business with them, the have been in business for 50 years so you know that they must be doing it right.

Ive shopped here and bought firearms for years but was a little annoyed the last time I went ... I called in beforehand and asked if they wanted to buy a rifle I had purchased a few months earlier but never fired. MSRP was $1100 and I bought it on sale for $780 or so. Brand new. The guy remembers me and says yes, well look at it but we cant offer over the phone so drive in. Okay. So I drive in.They offered me $300 (for a brand new, unfired, three month old rifle) and cited some BS about Cuomo passing the Safe Act 2.0 (read: it doesnt really exist) ... I sold it myself for $800 online three days later. I dont mind them trying to make a profit but fear mongering and lying to make 150% margins is ridiculous. I dont think Ill be going back.

I have purchased all of my firearms at Bensons and have never had a bad experience there. I usually deal with Nick and he has always been more than helpful in explaining anything I have had questions with. I have been to other gun shops on the Island and they are by far the nicest people out there!!

They were very helpful! I originally purchased a simmons scope but did not like it from when i installed it. I went back a week or so latter and they let me swap it for a red dot sight. The gun now looks and feels like it should. everyone in there was more then happy to help and there are very knowledgeable and personable. Glad i found them

Great inventory but over priced and isnt actually worrier about fitting you with the right gun or finding what you actually want/need for your purpose. Go to Long Island Gun Source in Medford they are half the price and what you cant find in store they can probably either order or you can order online and pick up in store for a $25 fee opposed to Bensons $50 fee.

Had what I was looking for, great selection of many many firearms. Guys there are willing to help. A little expensive, but hey we live in NY, we are lucky to be able to have guns at all at this point!

I will not shop there again. They act like they are doing you a favor just speaking with you. Everyone behind the counter is rude and arrogant. Their prices are sky high. I really dont know how they stay in business....I guess it is the dirth of firearms and ammunition dealers in this ridiculous state we live in. Go elsewhere. I found a hardware store in Northport that also sells firearms and ammunition. The man there was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. The prices were right. That is where I will go next time that I need to purchase ammunition. Just so you know, I am a very pleasant and respectful person...I give no one any reason to be disrespectful of me...they were that way when I walked in the door and judging from how another customer who was present while I was there was being treated and by other reviews herein, that is just their standard operating procedure.

Extremely overpriced merchandise, and rude staff leaves no reason to ever go there. I did buy one gun there, like I said, overpriced. I went back a second time looking for a short barrel for my Mossberg. They were selling the barrel for almost as much as I payed for the entire shotgun. When I took my phone out to show them what the rest of the world sells barrels for, the employee tried to get in my face and asked me are you filming me?!. He then wouldnt stop staring at me until I left the store. Unless youre in the mood to get ripped off or fight a fat middle aged man, go somewhere. else.

Just got my gun lic from Suffolk County, walked in the gentlemen there were very professional and knowledge on the guns i looked at were pretty helpful. i wasnt pressured and helped choose my first pistol. went with a PX4 Storm and have no regrets. they were never rude or disrespectful. the price was reasonable and they showed me exactly what i needed to do to make to get my pistol quickly

Visited to enquire on a RAK47, Guy didn’t even know anything about it, and the overall attitude from the staff came off as rude and short.

Funny story I went here originally just to pick up some different kinds of rifled and sabot slugs to play with my new shotgun. Seeing how they sell used firearms I asked about the older model 70 hunting rifle to see if they had any by chance. Sadly not many people sell them, but they gave me a good Mossberg alternative at a decent price so I ended up buying a rifle right there lol. I got the rifle a scope and the guy threw in a box of ammo for me as well! Though if I had gone way out into Nassau I could have gotten the rifle 30 dollars cheaper. I still would have used gas time and not gotten some ammo with it. Thats a win for me 😁. They were very helpful and patient as well.

Went here with a buddy to each buy a Glock. Salesman acted like he was doing us a favor just speaking with us. Total loser! Gun was on backorder too. Tried a different shop in Oakdale, modern and friendly. They sold us two Glocks plus accessories in 5 minutes. Also $40 cheaper! Talk about s#!% customer service! Lost our business.

Went there for a FFL transfer for a rifle. Was inquiring about parts for my ar15 build. The big fat guy behind the counter starts raising his voice telling me thats illegal you cant have that. So I ask him how can another licensed gun store sell it to me like that. He tells me there doing illegal stuff. Turns out my parts were all legal and he thinks he knows it all

Ask the guy for 12g slugs and he gives me buckshot. Then gives me an odd look when I tell him again I need 50 rounds of slugs. Also had to wait 25 minutes before anybody would help me.
