I really normally prefer small privately owned shops like this compared to bid box chains like shoot point blank. But the father/son owners have no idea how to run a retail business. They are upsetting alot of customers. Customers who are not only not going to shop their again but they are also telling all the people in the area how terrible this places customer service is. I dont see this place being in business much longer.

Have not stepped foot in the store but ordered ammunition online. Card was charged, confirmation e-mail received and no word since(ordered over a week ago). Called the store and heard a message that they reserve ammunition sale for people purchasing a firearm. I am now attempting to get my money returned to me and not one person from the store has attempted to contact me in regards to my order. Not mad about their store policy just upset that it’s not listed online, and now I’m having trouble just getting a refund on the ammunition.Update: Shortly after posting this review I received an invoice from the store refunding my money. I also was told the ammunition that I had purchased was out of stock and they were waiting until they were able to offer me a substitute.

Stay away. Poor customer service. Ben, the owner sold me a fn509 tactical with vortex viper red dot 1129.95$ bass pro has them in stock for 999.95 would not take a cent of the price. Being a newer shop in my town I decided to give them the business. They recommend the vortex so that’s what I went with. Unfortunately the suppressor sites block the wind and elevation locks on the back of the optic. I stopped I. The next day to purchase other items and ask if I could swap it out for something els. Ben the owner said yes as long as it’s not damaged and in original packaging which it was. He was well aware it was mounted and the screws removed a small amount of finishing on the inlay for the screws this is unavoidable. Offered me partial credit what a joke. If there’s one thing I hate it’s having my time wasted. Plenty of other gun shops that take care of you better. Check out south county guns or copper customs top notch customer service.Re: not once did I say sell it as new. And I did not go and price match when I left I had already done that. See my pictures attached, definitely don’t appreciate you putting words in my mouth as well as saying it’s out of stock lol bass pro literally has every single 509 that FN has in stock. Also I used a Wera torque wrench and set it to 12 inch lbs per vortex spec. So you can try and make this customer look like the review I left was inaccurate, but pictures don’t lie.Sooo if the sale wasn’t when I bought it from you, how is it I knew they had them for 999? And it is the same firearm and optic, different sku or not.

Ben and his father are great. Willing to go the extra mile to help customers and good to just go in and talk to. Prices are fantastic and they stock quality parts, not chineseium like some other local shops. Also. They have one of the best transfter fees around!

I went there today to purchase a handgun. It is a great place and the staff was very personable and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable there and will definitely be back!!

This is definitely the most professional gun shop in the area. Nobody else takes so much value in their customers overall experience. I have been a half a dozen times at least and they never disappoint. Would recommend.

Friendly family owned business, made my FFL transfer quick and easy.

Father was incredibly rude. States he has constant migraines and being difficult is just the way he is now. I will NEVER return to this business which is unfortunate because his son seems quite intelligent & helpful. Pops needs to retire.

This place was amazing and better than a lot of the other gun shops I tried to patronize in my home state of IL. I’m from IL and many of the gunshops had either sold out or were not very nice, so I decided to visit Sheepdog’s website and they had just what I was looking for. I placed my order online, which was easy, on a Sunday and just when I was thinking of contacting the store about their transfer process on that following Monday, Benjamin from Sheepdog contacted me to inform me of the firearm transfer process from IN to IL. Yes, it is a frustrating process, but what we as patrons have to understand is these gunshops have to follow and abide by all guidelines when it comes to selling legal firearms; there are no cutting of any corners! So Benjamin kindly explained the process to me and referred an IL gunshop to me where I could have my firearms transferred. He promised me that as soon as the firearms arrived at his store, he would then transfer them over to the IL store. When the transfer was complete, Benjamin called me to say the transfer was completed and I could call the other store. So people, please don’t blame these gunshop businesses for long waits. During this busy time, everyone is trying to get their hands on a firearm and there is a long wait. Even if you live in IL like me and shop for a firearm in IN, you will have to go through a process! Have patience and don’t take your frustration out on them. Regardless of where you go, you will have to wait! You waited all this time, you can wait a little longer. Believe me, it will be worth it! You cannot just expect to go inside of a gunshop on Monday and walk out with a firearm on Monday; there is a required background check so have patience! But back to my review. Throughout the entire process, Benjamin was very helpful, kind, and informative! Thanks, Benjamin! I hope to refer as many people to you guys as possible and will be a continuing customer!

Ben and his father are always incredibly helpful. They legitimately care about forging lasting relationships with their customers, and will go out of their way to ensure you get the right firearm for your needs at the best possible price. They have become my preferred shop (fyi, another added bonus is that they boast the lowest transfer fee in the region).

Stopped here to pick up a FFL shipped gun and ended up coming back to buy another item from them because of their knowledge and helpfulness. One of those brick/mortar stores you want to stay in business.

What a GEM! The best kind of hidden treasure. The shop is small, but comprehensively stocked. The staff is friendly and knowledgable—and the prices are FANTASTIC. I found many items (optics, accessories, components) priced as low, or lower, than the best on-line deals. Also, Sheepdog’s FFL transfer fees can’t be beat. Before you buy on-line, check these folks out.

Both Ben Jr. and Ben Sr. are very polite and helpful. Every time we show up Sr. will give my kid some candy and then hes happy for the rest of my visit, which makes the shopping easier! Theyre very knowledgeable, but most important, THEYRE HONEST. I would gladly pay the mark up of a local gun shop over ordering online with customer service like this but luckily I dont have to because their prices are FAIR. I couldnt recommend them more and I plan on giving them as much of my business as possible because theyre just that easy to work with.

Ive waited a few weeks to review. My last interaction was July 8th. I have had 4 interactions with them total. The son seems very knowledgeable but very monotone and no personality. But Im not there for his personality. If it were just him I think hed probably be just fine and probably loosen up once he got to know you.The older gentleman needs to enjoy retirement though (see all their negative reviews). He will explain their process of their paperwork. He never explains to dont step near him or the sales display counter hes working on. If you step near him he backs away in this threatening manner. And asks that you please back away from the counter. If its covid then I get it but also then explain that right away. If its not and its a safety concern of his well then address it. Move his computer off to the side...not above your items for sale.Ive brought my son in with me to just see is it me. We left and he said wow its like they dont want customers. I asked what did he mean? He said well he acted like you attacked him when you stepped forward. And then on the phone they seemed rude how they answered and responded....ok so it wasnt me. My 15yo son saw it.Last interaction was the worst. Item delivered to them for a transfer on Friday at 2pm. I get a notification from FedEx that my item was denied. I call in and explain, the son says let me give you to the person that did that. Old man gets on and explains that they dont have the FFL license of that company on file so he denied it. Ive never had a receiving party denied due to them not having the senders license on file. I ask for a fax or email to resolve this issue.Call the sending party whos a rather big dealer. They tell me theyve had previous problems with them. They explain they send a updated license out with every transfer so it was sent with my item. Theyve got their email and had recently had this issue in April/May too with another customer. They told me they were banning them going forward and they apologized for Sheepdog. They explained they would email them and send it back to them or they preferred I used a different dealer altogether due to their track record. I called back to Sheepdog, asked was the updated license received? He explained it was. I asked would there be any problems going forward if I had this shipped again to them? He explains that I need to call back on Monday because they need to have some discussions on whether they would have any issues. I explained no worries never mind youve lost my business.I called another FFL (Hobart Ace Hardware Lumber). They had no issues and said oh we deal with this dealer all the time. Call the dealer and they explain theyve had numerous issues with them and they would no longer allow their customers to transfer to them. They apologized over and over again, they didnt charge me for shipping a 2nd time and they gave me a discount on a future purchase. Their reason was because they should have banned them 5 issues ago and not let other clients have issues dealing with Sheepdog.Hobart Ace is a slightly higher and a bit further away for me. But I went there and they guy just talked my ear off about my item. As I waited I purchased quite a few items from them. He came and found me in the store. I will use them exclusively from now on. Sheepdog unfortunately has lost all my business.

I was looking for a small revolver and they got me a great deal on a used Taurus. Father/son operation and I can definitely recommend going to see them. Very mellow and polite people to deal with!

I don’t normally leave reviews... but I felt it was completely necessary! Today, I brought my gun to this store on a whim. Never heard of Sheepdog and didn’t know if they help fix guns or not. I needed help putting my shotgun back together. They took the time to do it for me and werent even going to charge me! Great gun prices inside (best I’ve seen in awhile). Since then, I gave my buisness to Shoot Point Blank. Bought two guns and ammo from them Never going back to SheepDog again. You lost my buisness.

Idk they seemed really on edge do to the fact that they were robbed recently after I left they had the cops come and grab some guy that must have been causing a problem in the store. Right after I left deciding to check out some other places

Ben and Ben did an excellent job helping me out. Being new to the specific type of firearm I was shopping for they helped explain different features and models and made some recommendations based on my needs and budget. They also were more then happy to answer some questions I had about the proper care of my new firearm as well as some firearms I already owned that werent purchased there. I will deffinetly be back

I have dealt with sheepdog armory a few times, and they are always amazing. I have only bought from them, havent sold at all, but their prices are amazing. They it worth buying locally rather than online, they have a small selection of high quality firearms, many of which are hard to come by. Small selection of good knives at internet prices, small selection of good quality rifle parts.By far the best place to buy guns and gear in nw Indiana.
