Exceptional pour-over, a perfect cortado, excellent staff, sharp and laid back decor...10s across the board.
It was ok. The coffee was good and made well but its a bit pretentious. When I asked about a certain coffee I was told to not to pick it if I drink coffee with milk which struck me as odd but overall understandable. I just felt pressured to adhere to what the baristas wanted to serve me rather than what I wanted. I understand some people might want an experience like this and if I had asked for it Id welcome it, having it be just the default was a bit jarring. Also, be very careful walking in, theres a significant step down right after you enter. They attempt to remedy by putting a sign to the side but in my case (this being my first time in) I was more struck by the bike gear and was confused I had walked into the wrong shop and nearly fell. It wasnt just me but the next 2 groups that entered had the same thing happen. Id recommend installing a ramp to remedy this.As a side note, I want to mention that my friend who was with me asked for just tap water which seemed to confuse the staff first but they eventually gave it to him at $1 charge. We both agreed this was odd and after posting his own review a barista came out and told us the cashier had made a mistake and accidentally charged him the price for filtered mineral water. My friend was grateful and changed his review. Shortly thereafter the owner replied to his review saying he never asked for tap water (something me and my 2 friends confirmed hearing, and the barista called out for when handing him his drink) and doubled down saying he ordered wrong. While I understand the need to respond to a review this seemed very petty and instead soured the rest of my opinion. We understand mistakes happen but saying my friend didnt say something that everyone on site agrees he did seems childish. Id recommend reevaluating responses in the future and perhaps work towards fostering a more welcoming environment.
We went to this place twice, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. Very rarely do I find people so dedicated to excellence. Your beverage and food are produced with a high level of precision in an immaculate space. This is not like other coffee shops that are sticky, dark, and dirty. This place is nearly perfectly clean, well lit, and not sticky at all.The way it is set up you can watch the entire process and in watching it I have found that they use very high quality ingredients. It is in the same space as a bike shop wich doesnt detract from the experience at all, you will see beautiful bicycles displayed like the art they are, not just piled in like other bike shops. The bathrooms are updated and clean. Conveniently located not far from the main area of downtown, but tucked away and not too busy to serve you well.
It’s hard to write a review for this business. The food and coffee were good, and the service was good from one of the two guys behind the counter. The other guy (ok, we all know who) was passive aggressive, and surly. Maybe he doesn’t know that he’s like that. But this is a recurring theme, so maybe some introspection?
I left a detailed review last week and it was removed. The coffee is great but the owner was rude and condescending. I wanted an iced latte with an extra shot (which I had ordered there numerous times before) and was told “no that they don’t do that” and that I needed to order 2 6’s instead. Fine. My husband has since ordered it that way and it tastes good but that’s not the problem. The problem is that I was talked down to and not allowed to order a very standard drink.
Fantastic cortado, and very well roasted beans.
I don’t know what kind of witchcraft they are doing here but in my 10 years of drinking lattes everyday this was the best I’ve had
Really liked the vibe of this cafe. Very clean, coffee was excellent and our food was delicious.
Excellent latte. Will definitely be back!!
Coffee is amazing. Had a great experience.
I was warned about the barista here, but I chose to try it anyways. BIG MISTAKE! Very rude barista. He insulted me because I didnt know what flat white meant, He figured I didnt know what it meant. Then I was told 18 grams doesnt serve anything sweet He followed that rude condensing comment with If you want to indulge in that kind of coffee Im sure somewhere else will cater to you. REALLY! NEVER COMING BACK! learn some professionalism and flat out RESPECT! Ive worked as nurse for 14 years, married to the military for 12 years, traveled around the world and have 6 children. Ive earned any amount of sweetener Id like thank you. Spent my money elsewhere.
(5 stars for food/beverage, one for customer service.) Food and coffee were superb, along with the setting. What was far from excellence was the barista!!!! I get it, you aren’t Starbucks and take pride in your craft, but goodness you were condescending and rude to us and every other customer that came in. I felt like this was a skit out of Portlandia or Seinfeld with the snooty hipster barista. (To be fair, there were 2 baristas, the one with the ponytail was pleasant and could tell he cringed anytime the main barista spoke.). Keep the graying short hair barista away from customers and behind the scenes and you’ll be fine : )
They charge for tap water.....enough said
Zero stars if it were possible. Visited a few times hoping to get over the extremely rude staff, but it never improved, not once. Plenty of other businesses in Culpeper would appreciate your business far more than this coffee shop.
The coffee and food offerings here are always excellent, but the other reason I love this place is the people. My husband and I have become regulars here since they opened a year ago, and we look forward to coming in several times a week. They are so knowledgeable about coffee and will happily answer any questions about their menu. It is a laid-back vibe with a cool, clean, modern look and a very friendly atmosphere. The toasts and salads here are unique and beyond delicious, and the coffee (cappuccinos are to die for) is the very best in town.
What a great hidden gem, right here in Culpeper! If your looking for the best quality coffee and not sugary drinks, you will love this place. (Truly for the coffee connoisseur !)It also offers a small but very very good selection of lunch items to choose from, along with assorted other drinks and pastries.*Where this place absolutely shines is the friendly staff!*It is a clean, bright and relaxing place to visit. Bring a book or your tablet, grab something at the counter, and sit and enjoy!
Nice small coffee shop with good quality coffee and toasts/sandwiches. Really nice folks too!
The coffee was absolutely exceptional I highly recommend!! The staff was knowledgeable it was actually a great experience and were a great help being my first time. I will definitely be recommending to my family and friends!!
Staff is very nice and know whats up with coffee. Pricey but delicious. Menu is toasts and pastries. Comfortable space to hang out in. They support the cycling community. Theres a high-end bike shop in the place. A small amount of gear to buy. Located in a great spot between two breweries and two blocks away from downtown food and entertainment. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Americano and fresh scones. I highly recommend this cafe
The experience is unique, the coffee is meant for people who like coffee .... if you’re someone after the new sugarbucks extreme energy candy drink, you might wanna stuck to your chain store, if you’re after a trendy new experience that offers coffee for coffee lovers you will enjoy. It shares a space with a high end bike shop but that seems to add to the experience so I’m not mad at the space share .... great hidden treasure
Absolutely the best coffee shop in central Virginia and perhaps Virginia as a whole.
Peaceful and laid back with some on point smooth coffee! Definitely coming back for a sandwich too next time! Great coffee shop!
Best avocado toast!
Excellent coffee and a comfortable atmosphere.
Delicious coffee, worth a detour if you are near the area!
Best expresso coffee shop in this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Coffee and banana toast were great and the vibes inside are as well very pleasant
Great coffee and lattes. Best coffee in Culpeper. Avacado toast is the absolutely amazing.I have tried most of the toasts, I have not had a bad toast yet. Each toast is hand crafted.
Definitely a unique place, in a good way! Culpeper is lucky to have such a place. Good coffee, bright, clean atmosphere, and the food was fresh and delicious. I had a cuppa-chino and the avocado toast. Very good, a little pricey...but also healthy and upscale for sure!
The service is great, atmosphere is great and the coffee was fantastic. It was a perfect spot for a one-to-one meeting. I will be back.
Best latte in town. Staff is super friendly, I don’t know see how everyone had a bad or rude barista situation but we never did. Continue making it great. Love the atmosphere it’s like a city vibe in a country town. You will have to snap out of it and realize you’re in culpeper still after you drive out of there lol 18 grams is the best escape from the country vibe for sure. Again...great coffee ☕️.
The best in Culpeper for coffee and a healthy snack.
Coffee was very good, just dont ask for cream!....staff member got flustered, when 9 of us came in to enjoy our morning coffee together, sadly they knew we were coming and we tried to calm the server told him we werent in a hurry but he was still rude..
Super friendly staff! The shop is super clean which is incredibly satisfying. The curry chicken was very tasty,A really great experience:)
Great coffee, pastries, salads, and toast selections. Best of all is its in a bicycle shop.
Why 5?Espresso so good, you can sip it without milk or sugar.Avocado and toast that reminds me of eating them when I was kid.
This is truly one of the best lattes I’ve had in a while. While I went to see if good coffee did in fact exist on this long stretch of road north of my mom’s house, my visit was just as much about seeing what that awful review of the barista was all about 😂...I just had to know how someone’s feathers could get ruffled so badly over coffee. After the visit, I had a better understanding, but I liked him. I found him to be very knowledgeable and he clearly loved his job. I think 18 Grams is lucky to have a barista like that. People visiting will most definitely have a lack of knowledge in comparison to him and that can be intimidating. But, a lack of knowledge is not a weakness, an unwillingness to learn is...this is his time to show off and get people excited about that amazing coffee. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area....great coffee, great staff...I hope it stays in business for a long, long time 😊
Awesome coffee, the owner and staff are passionate about coffee and bike. Best cup of specialty coffee Ive ever had (geisha)! Will come back again
Sweet little place. Be aware that theres only one roast and they discourage using cream. 😀 they know their stuff.
Not your typical coffee shop, weird and wonderful options that stretch the java envelope. Yummy little baked morsels as well.
I absolutely love the food excellent coffee and relaxed atmosphere. I will be returning Im also glad theyre on door dash!
Definitely get the Not Your Kids PBJ.. amazing. Coffee was good, best part was if you are drinking in the store you get one size that you can get refilled.
This place has stellar coffee, a great staff, & a relaxed environment. I recommend it as often as possible.
Clean, refreshing space, friendly barista, Best Latte ever - a work of art!
Driving through on way back to DC from Charlottesville, needed coffee, and this popped up on Google Maps. Wow, it was impressive. Outstanding coffee. Will make a point to return if ever driving through this town again!
Best avocado toast ever!! Cappuccinos are delicious too!
Nice atmosphere and coffee. A great addition to the downtown Culpeper area
Amazing place for serious coffee.
Best coffee in town. Reminds me of Italian coffee.
Awesome
