I neverd been to a barns and noble that closed at 5pm on a sunday. Shocker is that its a book store that is closed before sundown in a buzy area.
My frustration is directed solely at the textbook rental department. I have exerted more effort into convincing the textbook manager that I have indeed returned my rentals than I have studying for law school exams. It’s one thing for a person to fail to exercise diligence in making sure books were returned before accusing you of not having returned them; it’s another to INSIST on it.Let me explain: I ship my rental book on time and early through UPS. I get an email ten days later saying I have not returned my book. Confused, I respond saying I sent my book over ten days ago. At this point, the textbook manager should have checked to ascertain whether a mistake was made. She instead told me that my book was never received. Having realized I’m going to be the one to actually put in effort to resolve the situation, I look up the tracking number and obtain a proof of delivery showing that my book was delivered the day after I shipped it. I send the proof of delivery. And in response, I get no apology, no accountability - just a message telling me that the book has been checked in.The bookstore was planning on and insisting on charging me for a book I returned. And the best part is - this has happened to me TWICE. Yes, twice. I guess it’s only fitting I end a semester with trying to convince the bookstore I shouldn’t have to pay for something I appropriately returned.Maybe I have bad luck with textbook rentals. Or maybe the textbook rental department likes to pretend you never returned a rental without doing any research to verify that. TWICE I was accused and TWICE I was right. After all the effort I put into something that could have been easily avoided, an apology or mere “sorry” would have been nice.I will never rent a book from the SMU bookstore ever again. And I would recommend against renting from this bookstore unless you enjoy unsubstantiated accusations.
Great SMU Barnes and Noble. Tons of SMU gear and quick to pick up textbooks.
Susan is an absolute gem. She took the time to show my little girls around the kids section, read them a book, and was just the sweetest person ever. We will continue to come to this location just for Susan!
I have been coming here for over half of my life now, and it is always the best! The store is clean, and the customer service is friendly! Us teens actually consider this a hang out spot!!You definitely seen a lot of SMU students chilling here. They have great books, toys, coffee, Nooks, Calenders, notebooks/planners, and other school/ reading essentials. This place is great! Thanks for being a part of our community from 2008, onward. You guys rock! -Suren Xavier.
Open the toilets!!!! People will shop and spend more. Huge selection of great gear from Champion up to Vineyard Vines. Great stuff. PMBA45 2002
Absolutely awful experience. Ordered textbooks back at beginning of semester and when I went to pick up my books one was on back order. So I waited for an email on confirmation and never got one and a month later went in to see and the lady was super rude and said some late orders just don’t get done(which it was not a late order). She then ordered it again through the store and it had been another month and I just called to see and they said they cancelled my order because they didn’t have any AND NEVER TOLD ME. I’ve suffered in this class because of this and my friends had no issues getting this book. Awful communication and service.
Worst bookstore ever. thought i got a digital copy of my textbook and they gave me a paper with a barcode on it. upon realizing this didnt work, i called and asked about it and they told me they werent supposed to give me the barcode and that they dont even have a physical copy of the textbook i need. will not be buying books from here ever again
Customers service was excellent. I was in and out in less than 15 min3.
They have extremely good customer service with helping find books. The knicknacks are quite cute too.. BOSS
They rarely have the textbooks I need, they are always backordered... and when they do finally come in, they are overpriced. Finally, they close at 5pm?! Why!!!!
Unfortunately, they were closed when we arrived shortly after 5.
Great employees, really good selection in B&N section. Great supplies and deals even if not a SMU student. There is no Starbucks inside but 2 or 3 doors down. Easy to be confused when you walk in, but if you see clothes and a TV in front of you you are at the bookstore for SMU and you are at the B&N closest to SMU! Plus the workers know people can get confused so no worries!
Cute college themed bookstore
A good book store and place to get both SMU swag and textbooks, but if getting textbooks you need to actually ask them to price match since the cashiers wont do it automatically. The swag is good quality, and theres something for everyone and then some. Always check hours though since they are different for the general bookstore and the textbook area, especially at the start and end of the semester
Very nice selection of goods.
Nice lay out
If you are looking for SMU spirit gear this is the spot. They have all the gear you could want. From sports wear to coffee cups, banners, hoodies, etc. I think a lot of it is overpriced but I feel that way about a lot of things. 😎 Overall a well laid out bookstore with friendly staff and a great place to cool off when its over 100° in Dallas.
Helpful staff and proud to be a Mustang
Love this place. Great selection of SMU pride wear, which is always getting better. Prices are a bit high, but still, youre getting good quality.
Spacious and open, a really good selection of apparel and other SMU-merchandise. I like that they price match on textbooks but we havent tried that yet so... Fingers crossed.
Great bookstore for all things SMU! Be ready to drop some $$$ on SMU apparel but overall great customer service, especially during crazy times like school starting and graduation
Best place for SMU merch and textbooks (esp. if you have financial aid paying for them). Price matching is a real thing. Convenience of a near-campus bookstore is a draw as well.
Better prices good sale.
Very pricey and usually have what I want and need for work and school. Parking is busy; but, you can park down by the CVS and walk to B&N. There is also a great breakfast place La Madelin, along with a wrap and ice cream place for you simmer visitors.
Went in for a graduation diploma frame. EVERYONE wanted to help... brought out every frame we asked for and some they just thought wed like. Thanks B&N!!
Great selection of SMU gear. Shirts, hats, decals, and a host of other great products to show your SMU pride. If you are attending SMU online and happen to be in the Dallas area this is the spot for game day gear.
I do not attend SMU but this place is still only a convenient ride away. Book selection is not the best but good enough for most popular picks. Pick a book up and enjoy!
Decent. Books are expensive (what else is new), but the employees are good. They also have tons of SMU merchandise and miscellaneous stuff a student might need. The biggest draw for me is that they will price match from Amazon. Saved $40 doing that on a book
Lots of good SMU/Mustang spirit items as well as textbooks, reads by SMU authors, computer & phone related peripherals. Prices are rich.
Great place to buy SMU fan gear, local food next door in the same strip
Very informative staff here And very helpful
Store caters to college students and its name says it all. Its not the typical Barnes & Noble bookstore youre familiar with. If you are looking for variety, venture elsewhere.
One day I hope to be able to afford something here.
Here is my experience as a freshman:Dont buy your textbooks here unless you absolutely have to. They are typically more expensive than places elsewhere. My Physics Wiley access cost $182.15 and it took a week to ship. I did order it late, but (now I know) theres no reason to buy it online and wait a week when you could just buy it online and receive it instantly. Buying it directly from the WileyPlus website costs only $175.00 but theres an even cheaper option for $140.00. The way the SMU bookstore website is set up is that it searches the required textbooks for you. That search only yielded one price, and that was $182.15. This is an absolute scam, but I will forgive them if they refund me when I pick up my books tomorrow. If not -- if they stick to their policy that only first week of class gets a full refund, then they will have robbed me of $350+. I also got the Zybook for C++, which cost $99 on the SMU bookstore website, but is only $77 on the Zybooks website. Again, the $99 was the cheapest option if you go on their bookstore search. The other 2 books were: one that I had to get early because of homework, and one that I dropped the class for. So I want to return those 2 as well. It was my fault that I ordered late, and ended up having to buy it to finish my Homework, but if they are not willing to give a full refund on unused books that I havent even PICKED UP yet, then they deserve to be called out as a scam. Again, I will see when I pick it up tomorrow, and if all goes well, I will edit my review.P.S. I also sent an email, but got no response. The unfair pricing ($182.15 vs $175.00, and also omitting the option of $140.00, and $99.00 vs $77.00) already warrants a one star review, but am willing to bump it up to 3 stars if they will give me a refund on books that I have not picked up yet.Edit: They did refund me. I was worried. But I am very grateful that they refunded me. Thank you so much. Still, the Wiley access and Zybooks are overpriced. If they agree to do price match, then they should be the same as getting it from the official website.
One of the only places I go to get SMU stuff.
Really cool smaller barnes and noble than the ones you see in big downtown areas. Though its condensed it has most everything youd need for class with some of the same extras (games n such) youd find at a larger barnes and noble
Great place!
I love that guys. I always have a good experience when interacting with the employees. Chris at the register is always cheerful and friendly.
Bought some great journals and books! Very clean, and very peaceful!
Nice store good help nice selection
Poor service. I asked for a price check on an item without a tag. It took 20 minutes. They came back with a higher price than I found in their online store (original price) while I was waiting. No apology. Just rude. Assistant manager in particular.
It is NOT a Barnes and Noble cafe, but it is quiet and okay
Good if you want SMU swag. Just dont plan on getting books.
The people that help you there are very nice and friendly. They have a great range of books and i love the place!
Its a student store, book selection is lacking. If you are after an actual Barnes and Noble with a large selection of books then you should look elsewhere. Most of the store is SMU merchandise.
Kinda like a Borders Book Store with an SMU book store - combined. But, you better need something SMU!
Better than your average Barnes and Noble. Great selection.
Best customer service. Awesome Management team
Pretty cool place. Its a mix between a normal Barnes and Noble and a university book store. Lots of SMU swag to browse through as well
Love the store. Pony Up!
Upper Management can be lacking. No room for growth in positions. Customers are priviledged upperclass.
Love the environment I also like the workers are very nice and if the book you are looking is not there they can tell you where or it what boom store you can find it or order it for you
A little small for a Barns and Noble but otherwise excellent
Seems just as accessible as any other Barnes and Noble, but the restaurants next to it are quick and great. Try Rolly Poly...great sandwiches.
Not helpful or resourceful. Lacking customer experience.
Came in for the bathroom which was stopped up, but the bookstore looked great. S/O to SMU Athletics :)
Great location, friendly staff, and they can find anything I’m looking for even if it isn’t in stock!
Lots of SMU merchandise, typical college bookstore prices, good staff
Thought it was going to be an actual book store. Barely sold any books.
What I would expect from a University bookstore. Overpriced and understaffed. There was a very helpful guy on the student side that helped me find what I needed - at another store :/
This place has everything SMU! Go here to get your Pony swag and other college needs.
Convenient to SMU. Good place to get SMU apparel and gifts.
I went in specifically to purchase some SMU t-shirts, and I was followed around by older guy w angry look on face. I saw some I liked but they were out of the size I needed. I wouldve asked him about the shirt I wanted but he probably wouldve given a bs answer anyway. Also I asked him about return policy since I could not try on the shirt I was purchasing and he said it was nonrefundable since on sale. This conflicts w what is written on receipt. He told me I could try on in the bathroom if necessary...really??? . He made a point to follow me throughout the store and ring me up. Maybe he thought it was 1966 instead of 2016. I guess thats how they treat alumni when shopping, or maybe certain shades of alumni... I would rather shop online or purchase an SMU t-shirt from Wal-Mart than give this place any more of my money.
Great selection of SMU gear.
Friendly & helpful staff.
Was hoping for an actual Barnes and Noble while waiting for a friend, but they hardly have anything B&N. Then I realized it was a college affiliated bookstore, pretty disappointed.
Merchandise is mainly SMU stuff. Staff was short and hurried. Definitely a college bookstore, not for the older generation.
Great selection of high quality SMU clothes and other gear.
Best place to buy Mustrangs Clothing. Pony up. brands like columbia, nike, under armour or Vineyard Vines.. The books are the same like in any other university barnes and noble.
Really nice store good size and availability nice staff members
Comfy chairs and a great selection. Lots of clothes and makeup, too.
Expensive but yeah have all the beautiful accessories and utilities ... a must for SMU students ...
Lacking in SMU Football sportswear.
Totally did not know i was walking into a college barnes and noble.. Everything there was for SMU and barely had a selection of regular books to look at
Its the SMU Bookstore. Its got a smaller selection of books than your average B&N. Its got a good amount of SMU merch, and its the officiall bookstore for textbooks. The SMU merch is a bit pricey, but not surprising given the convenience of location. The hours at this store are tragic. I cant understand for the life of me how the bookstore closes at 5:00 PM on a Friday. I mean, give me till at least 6:00 PM so I can swing by after work.
Clean schools store. Mainly a SMU store than a Barnes and nobles. The book section is extremely small. If you are going here for SMU gear though they have a huge selection.
THE BEST BOOK STORE ON THE PLANET!!!
Not to crazy about this place
Great Barnes & Noble for SMU students to get their college gear.
Everything with SMU logo that you will ever need.
A lot of variety. Staff is super helpful.
Excellent location and store!
Buy books on amazon if you wanna afford rent that month
Summit of class, cleanliness and so nice
For all your SMU parafinalia, the place to stop.
Great place to buy a SMU details
Not a real barnes and noble. This is just a college bookstore.
Long lines and out of the way but great gear
While they know what you need, recently theyve been messing up my orders, and running out of the books a few weeks before school starts. In addition their prices are quite crazy compared to Amazon, slugbooks, and other online retailers.
More of a gift shop then a book store. I passed the door the first time because i thought i was in the wrong place.
Get all of your SMU gear here.
Great University bookstore feel
Disappointed it wasnt an actual barns and noble but more a campus book store for the college
The average university store, full of overpriced memorabilia.
They have a lot of what you are looking for
Nice place to visit
Great book store
Beautiful place, Helpful staff
