You would think with 35 yrs of service experience they would be able to service a spincast reel regardless of brand. Despite having the parts in hand along with diagrams they were too intimadated by a simple project of bearing replacements. Wholeheartedly would not recomend dealing with them. Customer service was horid. Have not heard good turnarounds with the reels they do service.
Stole $1000 in shimano reels from a buddy than when called out publicly on Facebook had admins silence threads and all his friends gang up to “sweeep” the matter under the rug.
Very knowledgeable people on Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels.
Had our trolling motor fixed under warranty here with Zach! He was really good, got everything done within a week during a snow storm! Owners of this place is also very nice, they know their stuff, I will definitely be a customer in the future.
Would never recommend buying here, I went into the store to swap out a casting reel part, because they sent me the wrong one. They were extremely rude to me and they were very inconsiderate people. Horrible customer service and on top of that they gave me a wrong part. Just walked away with getting my money back. Don’t do business here.
The staff were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitelyrecommend
I had 2 different reels repaired. The first was a 13 fishing concept and the level wind quit working and seem to be a common problem with this reel. I sent it in and they sent it back and it did the exact same thing. So I sent it back and At the same time I sent my Shimano Chronarch because the drag was slipping and Shane told me he would personally look at it. I got the Shimano back in worse shape than when I sent it. It wont cast at all now. This started in June. So I called and they said to send it back. I decided not to send anything back to them. Im still waiting on my 13 Fishing Concept, its been 5 months. Never again
Good place to shop.
I went in to get my old Penn 4400 SS reel repaired for just a screw missing from the bail. The older gentleman took it back and his assistant came out with the screw replaced but the bail wouldnt close smoothly. They said that it would take six to eight weeks after for repairs. I asked can they just provide me the parts and I will try to repair it. The young man Joe took it in the back and found parts needed and put a new screw, bushing and spring in. I was amazed at their kindness and going above and beyond. The repairs were very inexpensive and even though I was thrilled my old real that holds a lot of memories attached to it was fixed I decided to buy a new Penn rod and reel combo from them support local small businesses. Such a great job guys you have a customer for life.
They do great work. A few other guys in our bass club have used him for repairs on their trolling motors...honest and pretty quick.
Bad customer service
Good but pricey
Best in the business. 5 star service everytime
I broke the shaft on my Ultrex among other things that happened when my Trolling motor decided to tangle with a stump. Zach got it all taken care of under warranty and had the repairs done in 2 days. If you need work done on your equipment gove him a call.
The store was easy to find, parking and access was acceptable. I was looking for parts for a couple of old fishing Abu 5000 A,B,C, baitcast reels Ive had for years and years. The Gentleman who was there and asked me what I was looking for basically said hed never heard of the problems Id had with the bearings in the reels. These reels are around 40 years old. Ive oiled them and they still have noise. Ill just dip them into the lake and keep on keeping on using them. Im an old man too, but I know how to treat people... him.... hummm.
The employees and/or owners here have a lot of experience, and they are very accommodating in sharing it. They have parts, parts, parts- for lots of different reels, and they also carry many popular brands of new and used reels, and new and used rods, both freshwater and saltwater. They have a showroom with a decent inventory of and lures and tackle. All in all, I was quite impressed with their shop, their personnel, and their manner of doing business. I was especially impressed that they gave me a reasonable trade-in price when I traded an older Abu Garcia reel on a new one. I did change my review from a 5 to a 4 after the fact, as two of my follow-up calls disclosed that the depth of their stock may not be as good as I perceived on my first visit.
Old schoolThey know their stuff and have the experience
This is an old school shop with new tech. They give great old fashioned service but have all the latest in fishing equipment. Great staff who seem to have worked here for years. They repair reels and sell trade ins. Really cool place to spend some time
April 2020 Took my Minn Kota Fortrex to the as had a significant breakdown. Brackets broke. They turned it out in one day and a incredible price. Communicated well, got approval and let me know it was done. Great job!
This is a 1st class establishment, the staff is extremely friendly. They are very informative and service oriented.
Shane and staff know more about fishing reels than anyone in the country. If they cant find it, fix it or super tune it then it simply cant be done or doesnt exist. I fish for a living and only trust my reels to one place and thats Southwestern Parts and Service.
I’ve seen this store for years, I have lived in Dallas my entire life and I stopped in to ask for help with a few fishing pole related items and could not believe this place could ever sell or service anything, they are the rudest people I’ve ever encountered in a retail environment and would not waste my time to drive there or spend any money with this company . I cannot believe this place has been in business for as long as it has . They should shut the doors and all find a new profession.
They had a hard to find part for my 6yr old shimano reel. Great service and fast shipping. Good people. Thanks guys
The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly. Its a small place but theres never any high pressure sales or attitude. These guys carry a wide range of tackle and have a very timely repair department.
Very helpful, inventory runs the gamut from affordable to very high end. Friendly staff and excellent selection. They have reels for sale that they have refurbished to like new condition for very reasonable prices. Go check this Dallas treasure out!
Great people! Fixed every problem I have ever brought them, and Ive brought them quite a few. If youre looking for professional service and products from a knowledgeable staff, this is the place.
Ive had several reel repairs done here. The work is done quickly and with quality. Theyre also very knowledgeable and helpful about current and future reel purchases.
I sent two old, 70s vintage, Ambassadeur 5000 reels to Southwestern for overhaul and repair. They were worn out. I love these reels. I got them back in 3 weeks and they both work like new. The cost for both was about half what a new one would cost today. They even included the old, replaced parts in the box.Top notch work at reasonable cost!! I hope to get another 30 years out of them.
Very friendly and helpful team.
Friendly staff, cool shop but Just an FYI - even though the Saturday hours say open until 1PM that doesn’t mean they stay open until then.
Five day turn around on a vintage Ambassador 5000 keepsake! Thanks Joe!
Had my reel serviced. Paid $28 and get it back 1 month later (not a problem for me). As I check out the I asked the guy how my reel looked inside and if it needed anything. He checks the write up and says didnt need anything, literally. The main guy sees my face and walks over to save the guy and says, we did give it a good cleaning though. Hmmmmm so something I have done all the time I get charged $28. I thought I was paying for you guys to replace some internal parts and device my reel. Not just clean it. A little disappointed.
If I can give this place a half star I would the old man is a very arrogant person...... I took my Penn Spinfisher 6500LL to get fixed twice and nothing was done but a basic oil and grease I can do myself I simply told them the problem and both times they said it was just dirty or some lame excuse that the drag washers were placed wrong but it was their own wrong doing the first time because I did not use my reel obviously then the main man who runs the place gets upset because I ask for a recipet saying he’s been working on reels for over 50 years If he wanted to put his experience to play he should at least offer to fix my reel himself and not his employees who did not know what they were talking about waste of time and money I’m lucky that I live only 5 mins from this place I feel bad for those who have to drive and get let down like I did........choose wisely on doing business here
Good group of guys here. Always enjoy stopping in.
Horrible experience with staff.. I brought in my shimano saragosa 5k in for parts/service on a recommendation. 1st off he ask another employee if they had any parts for a Saratoga multiple times completely the wrong name but whatever right. He returned saying no parts available he would have to order new reel handle. I said ok Ill pass Ill get it online... 2nd which blew me away i asked if he had any power wheels for sale. He said Ive been doing this for 50 years and never heard of a power wheel.. I explained you can purchase various power wheels for each type of reel handle. He looked at us like I was making up some lie about parts. I will never shop here or recommend this place very disappointed in the lack of knowledge and specifically this old mans rude comments..
Great place to have you rod and reels repaired or just to have serviced. This is the only place to touch my reels!!! Great prices on everything!!
So the good before the bad -1.These guys know reels and rods.2.As someone who works on their own reels, I cant tell you how great it is to have a shop that sells hard-to-find reel parts.3.They even have a consignment section with some nice, older reels at a reasonable price and theyve got some pretty nice rods on clearance from time to time. The bottom line is you can find some serious deals here. I walked out with a few toys myself :)4.Their show floor is limited in size but they make great use of it by carrying only premier brands. If youre looking for a really high end ($400-$500) rod, this is the place. Now the bad:1.The gentlemen that work here are incredible arrogant, rude, and can be just downright unfriendly. They need some serious lessons in customer service. Ive talked to several of my friends who have also been in the shop and they say the same thing. Ive been in this place 2 or 3 times and even though I like their products, I really question whether or not I want to give these guys my money just to walk in and be treated like Im bothering them or be made to feel like Im an idiot in their eyes. If you guys that own the shop read this - take this one to heart - the next time I walk in, if you act like you could care less about my money yet again, youll have lost a customer for life.2. One of the guys at the shop started cussing the very first time I talked to him. I was seriously unimpressed by this. Doing this in front of a customer youve never met and may be offended by it - not smart.3. Their hours make it rough for a working man to make it in. They close at 5 on weekdays.4. Their location is really not great. Especially if youre trying to head home at 5.Thats pretty much it. I hope the shop owners look at this and take an honest inventory of their practices. I love supporting local businesses. But, the customer service may drive me to Bass Pro.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. They have absolute horrible customer service! The owner is the rudest man I have ever done business with and I work in retail. The only person who is helpful is the younger guy in repairs, I believe his name is Ryan, however he has no power at all in the company. I dont understand how a company who does so much business can be so unbelievable rude, greedy, and just downright inhumane. Completely disgusting.Overcharges on repairs and s/h is outrageous. Its a shame that Southwestern is one of the top repair companies because they are absolutely horrible to their customers. So much for the good ole Texan hospitality.
Loved it...great guys working there!
I have been using services and buying rods and reels there for many years.Great to do business with.
I love fishing and everyday I get out of work I see this place. I decited that is take a look at it... I went in the store and the first thing the clerk ask me if he could see my visa... Really why the hell would I ask someone that? Thats the service you offer your costumers or just the Hispanics that go in cause there was a black guy and they seem to be having a great conversation . Never going to that place again. Ill stick with my local sports shop. And for the record im born and raised here in Texas.
I have been using Southwest repairs for 25 years and have never had a bad experience. Friendly staff and exceptional service!
Called in and spoke to John about an older bait-casting Shimano reel that I had taken apart to clean- but couldnt get it back together- working correctly thereafter. He told me to send it in. 2 weeks later I received the reel back exactly as I sent it in. The bag hadnt even been opened. No parts are available for this reel. We are unable to repair it I called John... His attitude was So whats the problem? We sent it back to you ....
They did an excellent job and fast service for warranty work on my Abu Garcia bait casting reel. I would definitely use them again!Tommy from Tulsa, Ok
Nice people nice fishing gear
Knowledgeable staff with very competitive prices. There service is second to none!
Long wait for repairs but knowledgeable staff.
Ordered parts from SW and after 3 months of waiting for all the parts to arrived which they still have not. If you want timely turn around this is not the company to use.
Slow to acknowledge & ship orders and WAY overcharging for shipping tiny parts. Both orders were shorted. Not again.
Great customer service. Tons of knowledge on reels
Excellent place for repairs and tackle purchases
Ive bought rods, lures and had rods repaired here. Never had a problem and they are nice to me...they have never been rude and I will keep going back..
Theyre nice old fellers a little expensive.
Always service my shimanos here. Always get them back working like new.
Great place to get everything you need for fishing
My Shimano reel was sent them...it sat for months and they lied about the reel being fixed. They told me they had sent it to someone else and they had fixed it but they lied to me. I got it back still broken nearly three months after they got it.Forget using them. Terrible just awful.
Excellent...no other words needed
Good people and very honest.
Great people to deal with.
Nice people and place
Very poor customer service ; rude would be a better way of putting it
Nices guys! They gave me a free hat
Took a reel in for repair and was surprised at the tackle they had
Reels come back right!!!
Love this place!
